The paper reports the results of experimental infection of a specific intermediate host, molluscs Bithynia inflata from differently susceptible populations, with Opisthorchis felineus in one opisthorchis nidus. Non-susceptibility of molluscs from resistant and hyperinfected populations to O. felineus infection is shown.

The paper deals with the dynamics of age composition of M. richiardii females caught in their day shelters, near their biotopes during attacking and in the town park. The maximum number of gonotrophic cycles of this population and the ability for autogenic development of follicles in some females of the Ist generation were determined. The laboratory females were observed to differ in a higher degree of autogeny. The clutches of nonfertilized eggs were recorded.

The paper presents data on the sick rate with volfartiosis in different species of wild ruminents. The animals were maintained in spacious enclosures (up to 1550 hectare). This disease was recorded in 24 species of animals, african eland (33.5%) and american bison (9.4%) being infected mostly often. The morbidity dinamics within years and its dependence on weather conditions is given. The methods of prophylaxis and medical treatment of wild animals are discussed.

The paper deals with the analysis and assessment of basic results concerning investigations of nervous tissue proteins and their metabolism. The studies have been made in research institutions of the Ukrainian SSR for 60 years (1922-1982) and are of importance for comprehending the role of these proteins in the structural and biochemical organization of the nervous tissue and participation in its physiological functions and pathological processes. Special attention is payed to elucidation of the results and prospects for studies dealing with physicochemical properties and biological role of certain neurospecific proteins--protein S-100, antigen D (protein 14-3-2), the basic encephalitogenic protein myelin and protein P2.

The paper treats of the experience gained by the Republican Psychiatric Counselling Center set up in the USSR for the first time. The Center is oriented at the improvement of the highly specialized psychiatric services for patients with psychic disturbances. During 1980-1987, the number of patients referred to the Center by the chief psychiatrists of the regions or by the Ministry of Public Health of the Ukrainian SSR and of those who resorted to the Center's services on their own initiative increased 7-fold, namely from 857 to 6,024 persons. The structure and functions of the Center are described as are prospects of the development of this kind of the outpatient psychiatric services in all the Union Republics, territories, regions and large industrial cities of this country.

The paper discusses the results of a study of the case histories of 90 cancer patients. 48 of these patients received a course of treatment including physical rehabilitative therapy, dietotherapy, mesenchemotherapy (fractionated doses of ACS Bogomoletz, zymosan, splenin), oxygen and iodine-bromine baths, mineralized water and non-specific medication (vitamins, ext. eleutherococci, methonine, cholenzyme) and psychotherapy. It is suggested that non-specific therapy generally provided at health resort establishments is indicated in radically-operated stomach and breast cancer patients who reveal no signs of recurrence or metastases. Such therapy may contribute to social and occupational rehabilitation of cancer patients.

The paper submits the description of the channel equipped for radiobiological experiments with fast neutrons at the isochronous cyclotron U-240. A study was made of some dosimetric characteristics of a mixed gamma-and-neutron beam.

The paper deals with the results of treatment of 80 radically operated gastric cancer patients at a rehabilitation gastroenterologic department of a health resort at Morshin. Postresection syndrome frequency in this group was lower than that in controls: loss of weight--15% 27.8% in controls, dumping syndrome--25% 4.6% in controls, reflux-esophagitis--6.3% 9.2% in controls and anemia--11.2% of cases 15.4% in controls. Rehabilitation treatment was particularly effective in cases of gastritis of the stump, anacidity and enterocolitis. Also, it was followed by a greater decrease in the frequency of psychogenic reactions from 65.0 to 15.0% 58.5%--34.1% in controls.

The paper presents results of comparative studies of the level of sensitivity of endophilic malarial mosquito species to DDT and malathion. The sensitivity of the vectors was shown to remain at the same level in spite of cessation of DDT use in medical practice. It may be probably due to the use of organochlorines as pesticides within the city area. Wide use of organophosphorous preparations in medical and agricultural practices has not still led to malathion resistance.

The paper is concerned with the main stages of scientific activity of R.V. Chagovets (1904-1982). Member Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR in the field of biochemistry of muscles, metabolism and biochemical functions of vitamins and their derivatives. The creative heredity of the scientist served as a theoretical ground of the present-day vitaminology, base for development of the nutrition theory, practical recommendations and suggestions in public health and husbandry opened the pathways for experimental solution of the problems concerning vitamin and coenzyme metabolism regulation, elucidation of molecular mechanisms of vitamin and coenzyme functioning in the cell.

The paper comprises the description of properties of three mutant forms of glucoso-6-phosphate dehydrogenase characterized according the WHO program. Preparations of the enzymes were isolated from erythrocytes of patients with G6PD deficiency from three unrelated to one another Ashkenasi families coming from the Ukraine and from Byelorussia. Two new variants of G6PD hitherto never described in the literature were discovered. These variants were designated as "Kirovograd" and "Zhitomir" after the towns the probands came from. The properties of purified enzymes revealed by the methods of the WHO program were as follows: the variant "Kirovograd" has a normal electrophoretic mobility in tris and TEB buffers and 98% of the normal in phosphate buffer. KM for G6P is 6,54; KM for NADP--2,19. It is characterized by a reduced thermostability and by an acute peak of activity at pH 8,5. The variant "Zhitomir" has 90-98% of the normal electrophoretic mobility in TEB buffer and 78-84% in phosphate buffer. KM for G6P is 5,4-8,3. KM for NADP is 1,4-3,1; with deoxyG6P is 50% and with deaminoNADP is 35%. It is also characterized with a reduced thermostability, while the curve of the dependence of its activity on pH has two peaks. Both variants are perfectly inactive with erythrocytes and thus should be assigned to the second group of the mutants variants of G6PD. The comparison of these variants to other variants encountered in the same national group revealed that they resemble certain quantitative variations.

The paper is a response to the paper by A. K. Akiev published in 1974 in the "Journal of Microbiology Epidemiology and Immunobiology": "Concerning the Epidemiology of El Tor cholera Abroad". The opinion of the author concerning the origin of El Tor infection in 1970, the sources of infection, and the factors of its transmission is critisized. Literature data and personal observations explaining the regularities of importation and spread of El Tor cholera as an intestinal infection are presented; these data are against the view of Akiev on El Tor cholera as a disease with a natural nidality caused by freely living vibrios.
