The Library for Foreign Literature has carried out work to identify documents thematically related to the cultural and historical heritage of Armenia. More than 500 documents have been identified in 26 languages of the peoples of the world. The rare book collection presents unique publications of European authors of the 17th and 19th centuries about travel, geography and history, linguistics. There are several historical and linguistic books originally from Venice, the city where the national Armenian printing originated in 1512. The recipients of the collected information are libraries of Armenia, Centers of Armenian Studies, Armenian diasporas in Russia and other countries. The library accepts orders for the production of digital copies of paper originals. The multilingual nature of the identified documents and the Library’s multifaceted activities in the fields of cultural diplomacy ensure the promotion of Armenia’s cultural and historical heritage in a broad international context. The article is an attempt of the analysis of the ethnogenetic myths preserved in the Yezidi folklore. A special focus is made on the third, previously unknown version of the Yezidi origin. The latter was found in a text written down in the 40s of the last century in Armenia. It is particularly interesting that the legend reveals an obvious parallel with one the Shahnameh's story lines. This paper reports the results of investigations carried out to elucidate the frequency and the structure of various forms of abnormalities of dentition among the children of the preschool and school age in the Republic of Armenia. These data may be of help for the forensic medical personality identification especially for the expertise of unrecognized corpses. Moreover, these data provide an indirect picture of the prevalence of abnormalities of dentition among the adult population of the country. Specifically they may sometimes be used to identify the ethnic and/or racial background of a person.

In this paper, some final results of 25-year investigations carried out in Scientific Centre for Radiation Medicine and Burns MH RA (SCRMB) on the Armenian cohort of the Chernobyl accident consequences liquidators are shown. These results show that health conditions of the liquidators became worse during the whole observation period. A considerable development of both pathological states atypical of radiation damages and diseases, which may be considered as radiation-induced ones, was determined. Rise of the sickness rate of almost all organism systems, first of all, nervous, cardiovascular, respiratory and digestive ones, was observed. In 70% of liquidators the main disease was primarily detected after working on CNPP. In the intervening years, the average number of diagnoses per 1 liquidator increased from 1.5 in 1987 to 7-8 in the recent time. In addition to the detected diseases, particular functional shifts in neuropsychological and vegetative status of the liquidators were observed. The overwhelming majority of them have increased tonicity of the sympathetic vegetative nervous system, asthenic and depressive syndromes occurring in the form of weakness, somnolence, mood instability, mental capacity decrease, and memory defects. In the paper, the results of investigations aimed at clarification of changes in biological aging processes of the liquidators and assessment of their "life quality" features in terms of physical, psychical and social welfare are considered. Biological aged-related passportization in a definite part of liquidators elucidated an accelerated aging rate. The studies were performed with the help of SF-36 inquirer and indicated that health status aggravation of the liquidators also affected their life satisfaction. The "life quality" indices of the liquidators significantly concede the overall average standards by both physical health and psychical and social welfare scales.

To examine the clinical and epidemiological features of non-communicable diseases at the population-based level is a highly promising line of the present-day studies in preventive medicine. The paper presents the data of the author's long-term hygienic studies of the health status of children in the organized collective bodies. Environmental pollution was found to affect the health status of not only children, but also that of adults. There is a geographical irregularity in the prevalence of non-communicable diseases by the microdistricts. At the same time, the pollution is caused by the fact that in Yerevan, there are numerous industrial enterprises and motor vehicles whose emission generates a high pollution, by increasing the incidence of respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases as compared with that in the dwellers living in a control non-industrial microdistrict.

The paper analyzes some experience in treating 203 victims with crush syndrome (CS). The victims' status is determined by the force and time of compression, the degree and magnitude of destructive muscular changes, accompanying by lesions and occurring complications. Varying renal dysfunction was revealed in 97 (47.8%) patients, 55 (27%) patients developed mild and severe acute renal failure (ARF) and 38 (18.7%) patients had mild AFR. Renal dysfunction was not detected in 106 (52.2%) patients. The development of severe AFR in CS is a marker of the severity of injury, the body's response to injury and shock; it dictates the tactics of intensive therapy using extracorporeal techniques of detoxification and active or delayed surgical removal of necrotic muscles, which permits prevention of prolonged severe endotoxication and pyoseptic and vital complications. Two-three-week persistent unremoved foci of muscle necrosis and endotoxicosis exhaust the body's adaptive mechanisms, cause severe dysfunction of other organs and systems, promote delayed renal function recovery and ARF resolution.

The paper is concerned with the results of analysis of a clinico-laboratory study of persons (residents of Armenia) who took part in the elimination of the effects of the Chernobyl accident. Investigation of general morbidity revealed no correlation with exposure to ionizing radiation. The symptom complex of pathological changes included CNS functional disorders, a transition from the hypokinetic type of a heart response to exercise to the normokinetic one, lowered immune status and tissue peripheral blood flow, unmarked hematological and biochemical shifts, suggesting suppression of the body antioxidant system.

This paper introduces experience in specialized urgent neurosurgical help to the casualties with neurotrauma after explosion in Arzamas (116 patients), after the earthquake in Armenia (737 pts) and gas explosions in Bashkiria (42 pts). Quotes of neurotrauma and injury types depended on biomechanical aspects and on the difference of the hits. Problems of diagnosis, sorting and surgical treatment are discussed.

In the paper, the organization steps and working principles of the first in this country the Sochi hemoblastosis Registry at RIEPT of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences are reported. During a 5-year period the detailed comprehensive information was obtained on 1500 patients with blood system malignancies among 2 millions of the Krasnodar territory population. The results of statistical, multipurpose analytical epidemiological investigations as well as clinical and organization studies are summarized. It is concluded that hemoblastosis Registry is an optimim model for conducting thorough researches and improving all aspects of the specialized oncohematological service among the country population.

Demographic data on the sizes of local populations of Armenia and the rates of people migration were employed for prediction of genetic differentiation level using S. Wright's f-statistics. This expected value of fe was applied for approximation of the observed level of dermatoglyphic f0d and familial f0n differentiation. Both empirical estimations of f were found to be closely to each other (f0d = 0,0616, f0n = 0,0600) and fall within the limits 0,0712 greater than or equal to fst greater than or equal to 0,0580 predicted from "island" model of Armenian population structure. The present state and direction of the genetic process in Armenia is discussed in the paper with the main conclusion that the dermatoglyphics and family surnames could be used in studies of the genetic process in human population.
