The main task of the Dentistry subsection of the People's Commissariat for Health, established in August 1918, was the creation of qualified, free, scheduled dental care in the country, accessible to the general population. Dentistry reform had to be carried out under the conditions of post-revolutionary devastation, famine and the Civil War, in the absence of sufficient funding, appropriate material base, with a significant shortage of dentists and their negative attitude towards the changes taking place. The problem of lack of equipment, materials and medicines was solved by nationalization of private dental offices, and the dentists who were left without equipment were forced to perform labor, and not all of them were able to survive those difficult years. Nevertheless, in the RSFSR a network of state outpatient dental clinics was created, which after the country's transition to the New Economic Policy began to rapidly erode - a sustainable system of free public dentistry was to be created at another time and under different economic conditions.

The study showed the presence of negative dynamics in the provision of population with orthopedic dentists and dental technicians, as well as a decrease in the staffing of medical organizations with these specialists. The fact of exceeding the basic rate of loss of dental technicians over the same indicator for dentists-orthopedists by 2 times was established. The possibility of increasing the availability of personnel by combining positions is revealed, since the coefficient of concurrency among dentists-orthopedists and dental technicians is less than the average for the specialty. The trends of decreasing interest of specialists in obtaining qualification categories are noted. According to the survey of 305 specialists, a model of the most probable structural «profile» of a dentist-orthopedist was created and the characteristic features of the learning processes and practical use of knowledge on the main new technologies in orthopedic dentistry were determined. The data obtained in the course of the study indicate that there are limited opportunities to improve the availability and quality of dental orthopedic care and the introduction of new prosthetics technologies.

Comprehensive treatment of dental pathology involves a multidisciplinary integration of doctors, the use of general physiological control methods and correction of human conditions, such as study of support reactions (on the stabilometric platform). Participation of dentists in the public scientific-methodological initiative 'Moscow consensus on the use of stabilometry and biofeedback for the support reactions in public health practice and research' increases the efficiency of application of this method in dentistry and the development of relationships with other practical areas.

OBJECTIVE To assess the levels of job satisfaction and occupational stress among dentists working in the public sector, and the ways in which job satisfaction affects various dimensions of their lives. METHOD The participants were 41 dentists (85.4% response rate) working in the hospitals and primary health care units (health units and health centers) of the 7th Health Region of Crete. The study took place from December 2017 to April 2018. The participants completed, via e-mail, the Greek version of the Effort-Reward Imbalance (ERI) questionnaire, and provided demographic data. Statistical analysis was performed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), version 24.0. RESULTS A moderate degree of both job satisfaction and professional stress was recorded by the dentists. The percentage of the participants for whom the effort/reward (ER) ratio was greater than 1, was 53.7%, and 24.4% showed a rate of over-commitment/dedication to work of greater than 16. Statistically significant differences were observed, on both the Professional Safety/Reward Expectations and the Fair Professional Reward sub-scales, according to age, employment relationship, years since graduation and seniority in the National Health System. CONCLUSIONS The findings of this study highlight the need for intervention, and could be helpful in planning activities to improve the working conditions and increase the level of job satisfaction among dentists in the public sector, and thus to ensure quality of dental care.
