This work provides a comprehensive review of the history, status, and genetic characteristics of cattle breeds in Kazakhstan. The current breeding status is analysed, including information on popular breeds such as Kazakh whiteheaded, Auliekol, Alatau, Aulieata, and Kalmyk, their production and economic significance. An overview of genetic studies using DNA fingerprinting, microsatellites, and SNPs aimed at identifying unique characteristics, genetic diversity, and genes under selection, as well as markers of economically important and productive traits of Kazakh cattle breeds, is also provided. The study examined the genetic structure of the Kazakh white-headed and Alatau breeds based on whole-genome SNP genotyping. Unique genetic components characterizing Kazakhstan cattle breeds were described, and comparisons were made with genetic data from other breeds. Structural analysis showed that the Kazakh white-headed breed contains genetic components of the Hereford, Kalmyk, and Altai cattle. The Alatau breed has a composite structure, containing components of the Brown Swiss, Braunvieh, Kalmyk, and Holstein breeds. The results not only reveal the genetic diversity and characteristics of cattle breeds in Kazakhstan and the historical development and current state of animal husbandry in the country, but also emphasize the importance of further research to identify adaptive and unique genetic markers affecting economically important traits of local breeds.

5. Origin of rules of law choice: the primitive era

The article explores the concept that the first relations falling under the subject of private international law originated in the primitive period. These relations include exogamy and incest taboos, the institution of hospitality and exchange agreements. Exogamy and incest taboos are fundamental relationships that emerged parallel to the development of society and law, forming he cornerstone of these constructs. These represent the earliest interactions involving “foreign persons” and are characterized by personal non-property character. Hospitality ties are linked to exogamy while exchange relationships follow subsequently. Intergroup agreements serve as primary mechanism for regulating these relations and lay the groundwork for the inception of the initial choice-of-law rules. The conflicts are not interstate but rather intergroup (intercommunal), similar to contemporary interpersonal or interlocal disputes. The author applies a number of methods such as comparative analysis, reconstruction, formal-logical, dialectical, natural science and historical analysis in this research. In conclusion, the author asserts that three key institutions emerged in the pre-state era, forming the foundation of modern PIL: exogamy (cross-border marrital and family relations), hospitality (foreigners’ law), and exchange (international contract law). During this period the first conflict resolution rules also emerged. The principle method for addressing conflict issues in primitive societies is the unified substantive approach through intergroup agreements. Additionally, archaic law incorporated conflicting principles like personal law and the law of the place where the action occurred. These conclusions are drawn through a reconstructive approach and are supported by archeology, genetics, anthropology, as well as domestic and foreign scholarly research on legal genesis.

The paper focuses on the identification and study of the features of cognitive metaphors of the past and related concepts in the Greek linguistic picture of the world. The analysis considers the nominations: ιστορία (history), κληρονομιά (heritage), παρελθόν (past) and αρχαιότητα (antiquity). The research sets main cognitive structures in the source domain that are inherent to all analyzed concepts. Metaphorization predominantly takes place around the image-scheme of the path (“sourcepath-goal”), personification and perception of the concepts in the target domain as objects. The path has a structure-shaping role: both linear and labyrinthine path models are registered, while the movement mostly occurs in the opposite direction with the focus on the starting point of the journey (the source). Ethno-specific feature includes orientational metaphor, which suggests that the past is up. The broad scope has personification (first of all, with social and professional roles), as well as objectification, based mostly on visibility or concealment of the objects, as well as on their physical characteristics. A distinctive feature is the perception of antiquities as neighbors that exist side by side with the modern population, and antiquity, on the contrary, as a poet communicating with poems. One can also highlight the perception of the past and heritage as exhibits – something that is exposed to the public and is source of pride. Besides, natural phenomena and the construction are the common source of metaphorization for the past, history, heritage and antiquity in the Greek linguistic picture of the world.

The authors considers the history of the study of the Khan Shahghali’s mausoleum (tekiye); archaeological research data, written records and graphic sources are used, previously published works on this issue that need a critical approach and addition are drawn in, and the results of archaeological studies conducted nearby the site in 2020 as part of the restoration program are given. As a result of archaeological studies, the depth of the mausoleum foundation and the base of the underground crypt were revealed, two stratigraphic horizons associated with the construction and restoration of the building were identifi ed, remains of structures and post holes of scaff olding associated with the construction of the mausoleum were identifi ed in the test pits. The studies have not revealed layers in this area that were formed earlier than the middle of the XVI century. It is concluded that the mausoleum (tekiye) was built under the infl uence of Sufi traditions that appeared in the Golden Horde period.

The article considers process of fixing the names of the Golden Horde cities in medieval Arabic sources. The materials of the study were Arabic-language writings of XIII–XV centuries. As a result of the study it was noted that there was no stable name of the Golden Horde state. In most cases Arab chroniclers linked the name of the state to the name of the ruler or to a certain geographical location of the Golden Horde state. The information of medieval Arabic works about the Golden Horde cities is fragmentary and descriptive, and does not give a complete picture of a medieval city. Most of the presented information concerns the settled regions of the Golden Horde Empire. Despite the narrative style of the reports about the cities of the Golden Horde, they generally provide information that complements the data of other historical records.

Energy efficient small size housing is a strong trend in the development of architecture. In most countries of the world, there is a growing interest in small and tiny housing with minimal energy consumption for heating and air conditioning. Small houses are also able to solve some problems in urban planning, such as filling in awkward building lots and other voids in the city structure. Small houses look very promising in terms of solving the problem of homelessness. This article examines the potential of Jordan’s traditional small houses as a basis for modern house building and presents the results of a survey of Jordanian architects and experts.

The article is devoted to the analysis of the history of the development of social media. The aim of the article is understanding of their economic and social significance in the process of transformation of the modern paradigm of communications and their interaction in advertising. Analyzing, systematizing and summarizing the scientific works of many experts, the definition of «social media network» was considered, which reflects various approaches and interpretations of this concept in the context of modern communication technologies. As a result of the study, the powerful evolution of communica-tion technologies that took place during the last decades is outlined. The authors demonstrated that social networks enable individuals, companies, organizations and governments to interact with large audiences, which, in turn, opens up wide opportunities in promoting a product to the market. This study examined the history of Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and others, as they are or were among the most popular social networks among Internet users. Brand promotion in social networks is an integral tool that opens up prospects for businesses and individuals in creating a positive image, inte-raction with consumers and instant spread of information, quick response to changing market condi-tions. The study also notes the variety of types of ad integration, ranging from traditional banner ads to more specialized forms such as targeted ads. This study will allow entities interested in advertising their products and services to understand the existing relationship between the development of social media and Internet marketing strategies, which, in turn, will help business structures to adapt to changes in consumer habits and technological trends. Prospects for further research in this direction can be seen in the analysis of the efficiency of the implementation of marketing strategies in social media.

urpose: To introduce into scientific circulation information and photographic records of the mausoleums of representatives of the Mamluk elite who were associated with the history of the Golden Horde. Research materials: Medieval Arabic-language sources, the work of Taqi ad-din al-Makrizi “Kitab al-mawaiz wa-l-itibar fi dhikr al-khitat wa-al-asar” (“Book of teachings and edifications in the story of quarters and monuments”), photographic materials of mausoleums. Results and scientific novelty: This article presents the history of representatives of the Mamluk elite who played a significant role in relations between the Golden Horde and Egypt. This study presents mausoleums that in medieval Arabic writings are presented under the name «qubba» which was characteristic of the Muslim culture of the Middle Ages. The presented mausoleums were built in the 13th–14th centuries. and were intended not only as burial crypts, but also as sites to place kuttabs and public drinking fountains. It has been noted that the burials of the rulers of Egypt were carried out in integral memorial complexes, consisting of a mosque, madrasah, and khanqah. Such Mamluk sultans as al-Mansur Qalawun, an-Nasir Qalawun, Barquq were buried in these. Emirs and nobles built separate funerary complexes for themselves during their lifetimes: for example, the mausoleum of Emir Qusun, the Golden Horde princess Tulbya, etc. Some of the burial complexes are open to the public today while others require serious restoration. It is important to note that the Mamluks used various methods and architectural solutions when creating memorial complexes. The mausoleum remained the most significant element of the architectural ensemble. The mausoleum was either separate or adjacent to the building, but in any case it occupied a large area. The construction of such memorial complexes suggests that the Mamluks, most of whom were Turks, were known as zealous connoisseurs of culture who patronized the development of art and architecture.

The present article provides a brief introduction to the first comprehensive scholarly account in English of the history of the Northern Sea Route (NSR) from the earliest exploration to the first decades of the 21st century. It was published in October 2022 under the title “From Northeast Passage to Northern Sea Route. A History of the waterway North of Eurasia” by Brill Academic Publishers, Leiden, The Netherlands. This introduction touches on a few important issues that are discussed in the volume, which is written by a team of Russian, Norwegian, Dutch and British historians and political scientists. The first stage of this project was carried through in the 1990s, within the framework of INSROP (The International Northern Sea Route Programme (1993–1999)), which was conducted by the Fridtjof Nansen Institute in Oslo. As a result of their efforts four working papers appeared on the history of NSR. In the end a decision was made to develop the topic further into a collective monograph. This second stage of the project, however, started only many years later, in 2015, and was executed in the course of seven years, now under the leadership of the UiT The Arctic University of Norway. In the present article you will find information about the contents and direction of the monograph, as well as a small sample from the book, chosen from a multitude of other themes, for the simple reason that it is relevant to the recent commemoration of 150th anniversary of Franz Josef Land’s discovery (1873–2023).

The paper provides information about the expedition to the European North of Russia in 1843. The expedition travelled about 8000 miles (about 8427 km). The main route was connected with the wa-terway along the rivers Vychegda, Pechora, Izhma and their tributaries. Hiking routes were connected with the description of the Ural Mountains sites (Bolvano—Iz, Skala). On reindeer sledges, the expedition reached the coast of the Barents Sea and carried out geological and geographical work in the Timan tundra. The work was supervised by a paleontologist, corresponding member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences, Count A.A. Keyserling. The scientist described and paleontologically characterized the rocks of the Lower Silurian, Devonian, Permian, Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous age. As a result of the expedition, the main minerals (coal, gypsum, oil, domanic, copper ore, salt, grindstone) were studied. The significant geological and geographical result was the discovery of the Timan Ridge and its mapping. P.I. Krusenstern conducted topographic surveys, astronomical and geographical observations. He compiled a geographical map on a scale of 1:3000000 with a rectangular geographic grid and detailed drawing of rivers, lakes and settlements. The published works of the scientists are kept in the funds of the A. A. Chernov Geological Museum, Institute of Geology.

The paper deals with diverse theoretical understanding of ensuring the criminological security of minors on the international level, and analyzes the regulation of the protection of children's rights. The paper focuses on formulating the conceptual framework of international legal protection of minors. It is proposed to introduce the author's concept of international legal protection of minors. The international legal protection of minors should be understood as a system of normative acts that entrench the rights and freedoms of children, the obligations of the states to exercise these rights and freedoms; as well as international mechanisms for monitoring the fulfillment by the states of their international obligations and protection of the violated rights of each particular minor. The study explores the history of the international legal protection of the rights of minors. It is noted that the international community has adopted a number of normative acts to ensure children’s rights, to prevent juvenile delinquency, the treatment of juvenile offenders, exercising justice. In particular, when it comes to juvenile offenders, the norms of international law are actually the policy of treating such children. At the same time, the key idea of all international legal acts in combating juvenile delinquency is recognizing the priority of preventive measures over punitive ones. Attention is drawn to the fact that due to globalization, no country will be able to fight crime effectively on its own, coordinated efforts of the entire international community are needed. At the same time, the useful law enforcement practices of foreign countries with regard to child protection should be of no less interest. It seems that the Russian Federation should attempt to decrease the level of punishment and incarceration.

The article is devoted to the role of the climate factor and weather in the everyday nomadic life and history of the Kalmyks, closely linked with traditional nature management. Based on the study of published and archival materials from the State Archive of the Astrakhan Region, the State Archive of the Saratov Region, and the National Archive of the Republic of Kalmykia, the article examines the main features of the nature management system, the functioning and life of the Kalmyk nomadic society in new geographical conditions, and analyzes the processes of adaptation of nomads to the specific resources of an arid ecosystem. For the Kalmyks, who led a nomadic lifestyle in the past, nature was not only a habitat but also the basis of life. Moving in search of pastures for livestock, Kalmyk pastoralists learned to use natural resources rationally. The article shows how people tried to harness these resources through magical rites. The nomadic way of life, the economic structure, the natural landscape, and the life of the nomad cattle breeder – all predetermined the nature of magic as a whole. Special attention is paid to a system of prohibitions related to nature, land, and water. “Russia’s Steppe Frontier” is an invaluable resource for understanding the Kalmyks’ historical experience in the field of nature management.

This article provides archival information about Tatar girls who studied at Russian universities at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It informs about the educational institutions they attended, admission to schools and the learning environment conditions. During that period, women received education mainly in St. Petersburg. Raziya Kutluyarova was the first among Tatar ladies to study at higher medical courses. It is also known that Amina Batyrshina studied at that school, who later became famous as a doctor and public figure in the city of Baku. In addition, young Tatar women studied specialties related to various sectors of the national economy – polytechnics, trade, literary history, and natural sciences. Higher courses open to women were financed by private donations and from students’ income. Therefore, not everyone could study there. It is known that in 1906–1918 twelve Tatar ladies studied at the Faculty of History and Philology of Kazan Higher Courses. The article also touches on the issue of social activities of Tatar girls who received higher education. Among the girls who completed the courses, there are those who continued to receive higher education and engage in science. One of them, Maryam Gubaidullina, studied at the Kazan North-Eastern Institute of Archeology and Ethnography, gave lectures on the topic “Ethnography of the Kazan Tatars.” As an appendix to the article, a list of Tatar ladies who studied at women's higher courses before the October Revolution is presented.

- Abstract
The word “home” is one of the oldest and most used lexemes in the Russian language, embodying the concepts of family, security and historical transformations of society. The present study aims to trace the semantic history of this lexeme, paying attention to lexicographical and cultural-historical aspects in order to understand its evolution and meaning in Russian more deeply. A number of steps are taken in order to achieve the set goal. Firstly, attention is paid to etymological dictionaries, which reveal the roots of the word and its connection with other languages. This allows us to see the historical context and the development of the meaning of the word “house”. Secondly, the meanings indicated in explanatory dictionaries are identified. The main nominative meanings reflecting the designation of physical structure serving as a dwelling are analysed. Attention is also paid to expressive-synonymous meanings, where the word “house” acquires an emotional-evaluative character, especially in the context of children’s games. Thirdly, with the help of historical dictionaries the dynamics of the use of the word “house” over time is determined. The evolution of the semantics of the word from antiquity to the present day is considered, and changes in the context of use associated with socio-cultural and historical processes are revealed. The paper provides a comprehensive overview of the development of the semantics of the lexeme “house” in the Russian language. It covers the period from antiquity to the present, allowing a deeper understanding of the evolution of the meaning of this word in the context of its lexicographical development and cultural history. The study allows us to see how the word “house” has undergone changes in its perception: from the original designation of a residential structure to more abstract concepts such as “family” or “community”. This process reflects not only linguistic but also cultural transformations, noting the influence of historical events and socio-cultural changes on the perception of the term. Thus, the study of the word “home” is of interest for understanding its meanings in different historical and cultural contexts, as well as for analysing its role in the linguistic development of the Russian language. This article explores the significance of memorial plaques in Russian cities as sites of history, memory and aesthetics that create a new sensorium of the urban sphere. The plaques, affixed to historic buildings, serve as tangible markers that commemorate significant events and figures from the past. Taking the case of the historic center of St. Petersburg, the article examines how these plaques create a sense of historicity and contribute to the formation of a shared cultural background within the urban sphere. The plaques evolve from simple inscriptions to more elaborate and visually appealing designs. It also highlights the controversies surrounding the selection of individuals to be materialized and remembered and the aesthetic concerns raised by some residents. Meanwhile, the two contemporary projects challenge traditional commemorative practices and their aesthetics: Last Address, which commemorates victims of political repression through individualized plaques, and the Gandhi artist group’s street art interventions. These projects offer alternative approaches to memorialization and engage in dialogue with existing monuments and plaques. These micro-interventions show grassroot resistance within memorializing practices and aesthetics. The article emphasizes the contested nature of public space and the role of memorial plaques in shaping collective memory and historical narratives in Russian cities.

The phenomenon of modern graffiti is difficult to theorise due to its complex and comprehensive nature. The article proposes to consider graffiti as a synthetic phenomenon that combines the artistic tasks of transmitting emotional states with the tasks of expressing social ideas (including protest and even revolutionary ones), as well as the tasks of communicating between different cultures – both cultures of different epochs and local cultures and subcultures of city dwellers. This approach is shown through the historical example of Mexican muralism. Based on the proposed approach, contemporary Arab graffiti, which received a strong impetus of development after the events of the Arab Spring, is considered.

27. Comedy of architectural thought: Development, degradation and history

Development and degradation in architecture are relative concepts. In our time, development criteria turn out to be subordinate to the desires of certain sociocultural groups: national, religious, property, etc. In such a situation, it is almost impossible to rely on any theory or methods of development and degradation that overcome the historical difference in understanding and approaches. The traditional foundations of architecture, which had developed over thousands of years, were destroyed at the beginning of the twentieth century. The history of forms became the theory of forms, leading to a carnival of rapidly changing architectural styles, theories and interpretations of architectural history. As a result, palaces were replaced by “glass barracks”.

- Abstract
Epidemics of a wide variety of infectious diseases were constantly recorded in Russia. Asian cholera occupied a special place among epidemic diseases. In 1892, cholera was imported into the Russian Empire through the Black Sea ports, which reached the territory of the Kuban region by the summer of the same year. In 1892, about 300 thousand people died of cholera in Russia. They still did not know how to treat this terrible disease, did not know its mechanism of spread, as well as the peculiarities of its course. The article, prepared on the basis of an analysis of documentary data from the Archive Department of the administration of the municipal formation of the city of Novorossiysk and the archival Department of the Administration of the municipal formation of the Mostovsky district, examines the cholera epidemic that swept the territories of the Kuban region in 1892 and 1910. The authors characterize the main factors that contributed to the rapid spread of infection and assess the measures that were taken to combat the disease: the implementation of anti-cholera measures organized by the authorities was greatly hampered by the lack of education, prejudices and superstitions of the vast majority of the population; representatives of the nonresident population not only did not comply with basic standards of personal hygiene, but also expressed distrust, and sometimes and hostility towards doctors. Using archival data, the authors investigate the impact of infectious diseases on the demographic indicators of these settlements.

- Abstract
The purpose of the study is to investigate material culture of obstetrics in New and Modern history of Russia. The most important objective of research is to involve into scientific circulation Russian empirical material in order to study transformation of culture of childbirth during transition from traditional to biomedical model of childbirth exemplified by material culture items (maternity beds, chairs, armchairs). The key approaches were those of historical anthropology, social history of medicine, theory of social control and medicalization. The methods of content analysis, narrative and interpretive analysis were applied to analyze empirical data. In the Russian folk tradition included no such special devices as maternity beds and birth chairs that was explained by dominance of vertical maternity pose. The first birth chairs were brought into Russia by foreign midwives. With development of clinical obstetrics horizontal position of woman in labor was approving that was conditioned by convenience of physicians. Since last quarter of the XIX century, Russian physicians began to experiment, inventing most convenient version of maternity beds and gynecological chairs. The Soviet system of obstetrics was mass and publicly accessible, but consolidated technocratic model of childbirth. In maternity wards, the "Rakhmanov obstetric bed" became widespread. The chairs were not used during childbirth, being used exclusively in gynecology. The material culture of Soviet maternity hospitals turned out to be extremely stable and conservative. In modern Russian obstetrics, with transition to holistic model of childbirth and actualization of free positioning of woman in labor, transformer beds and fitballs began to be applied to provide optimal course of birth process. The material culture of obstetrics is closely related to dominant type of maternity culture.

- Abstract
The endometriosis is a chronic gynecological disease, etiology and pathogenesis of which are not fully clear to science. Its consequences are hardest burden for health care, society and every female patient and her family. The presented review tries to answer in historical aspect the question of interest to all scientists - why endometriosis, known to science for more than 300 years, still remains "disease of riddles and assumptions"? The search of publications was implemented in such databases as Web of Science, eLibrary, Scopus, PubMed/MEDLINE. The search was based on keywords "history", "endometriosis", "review", "myths", "authorship", "infertility", "reproductive dysfunction". The study covered full-text sources and publications reviews related to subject under study. The articles having no direct relation to the topic of endometriosis were excluded from the review. The review demonstrated that as before pathogenesis of endometriosis remains enigmatic and complex. The more and more evidences appear that endometriosis is part of syndrome of uterus reproductive dysfunction. Hence necessity in further research and experimental designs in this area. Perhaps in nearest future scientists nevertheless will find the clue to single etiopathogenetic mechanism of development of endometriosis which at a later date will be successfully applied by physicians in diagnostic and treatment of this disease.
