- Abstract
Electromyography is a useful method of investigation of neuromuscular diseases. It can provide data regarding the nature of the disease (central or peripheric), the localization (nerve or muscle), the involved nerve, and can also give information about the recovery. It was performed for the first time in our country in 1969. The authors present the intrinsic laryngeal muscles examination. The method is useful for the diagnosis and differentiation of vocal cord movement disorders which may cause diseases of joints and cartilage between the larynx, the primary disorder of muscles or of the nerves that innervate them. Laryngeal electromyographic requires knowledge in both fields, otolaryngology and neurology. For this reason, it is carried out and done as a teamwork by the ENT physician and the neurologist with competence in EMG. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
