In the context of economic, ethnic or linguistic, even religious diversity, nowadays, Europe aims at an unprecedented political and economic unity. European Union, as a symbol of European unity for the entire continent, at least as widely accepted paradigm, is today not only a political and economic reality, but also a legal one, based however on significant cultural diversity. Europe was and still remains the symbol of unity in diversity, a community of civilizations and balance, but also a community of religious and cultural division. Undoubtedly, beyond the approaches that are rarely based on clear semantic definitions and concepts or precise determination of reality, multiculturalism and interculturalism are obvious realities of European Union, both as given and attitude. Moreover, we may add as particular approach, the idea of cultural identity and cultural otherness, the best definition of the ideal of European unity, as a unique space of civilization, yet extremely diverse and understood by all citizens who feel to be European, even during global economic crisis such as the one in the last three years. This is why the education in the spirit of general European values, but also in the spirit of multiculturalism as fundament of European space must be an ideal, a goal for the Romanian educational system. CHRISTIAN union , *ECUMENICAL movement , *CATHOLIC education - Abstract
The article presents the up-to-date ecclesiological position of the Romanian Church United with Rome and its evolution, the place ecumenism has in the frame of the Greek-Catholic high education, as well as a personal approach to the significance of ecumenism and the challenges brought by it in the era of reflexive modernity. The background of this approach is the opinion according to which the goal of eccumenism cannot be attained without a proper knowledge of "the other" and a deep comprehension ofthe premises and connections of the ideas that characterizes the world we live in. INTERFAITH dialogue ,ECUMENICAL movement ,INTERDENOMINATIONAL cooperation ,CHRISTIAN union ,INTERPERSONAL communication - Abstract
The present historical context makes the inter-religious dialogue a dire necessity. While a century ago East and West did not meet and they were relatively homogenous areas, from a religious viewpoint, the present state of facts is radically different. This study analyses the inter-religious dialogue, underlining its overwhelming importance in the given context. The Christian participation to this dialogue is a divine command that must be fulfilled, consequently being a duty of both the person and the community. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This article provides an overview of pedagogy of religion as theological discipline whose development is observed on the background of the history of Christian education. The leading thesis is that pedagogy of religion is strongly connected with the understanding of the Christian faith - particularly in its Reformatory interpretation - on the one hand, and with the transformations provoked by the modern era, the Enlightenment and our own age at the beginning of the 21st century (Postmodernism) on the other hand. Therefore, this perspective brings about new opportunities for ecumenical cooperation between Churches which face similar challenges, that is opportunities for an ecumenism focused on the pedagogy of religion or at least for an ecumenism which also includes the level of religious education. This involves an essential chance for the cooperation of Churches to further extend the borders of the ecumenical collaboration in the future. Pedagogy of religion - particularly as a science, distinct from the Church - could be regarded in this framework as a contribution on the part of theology to the overcoming of such challenges. ECUMENICAL movement ,CHRISTIAN union ,RELIGIOUS movements ,CHRISTIANITY - Abstract
The ecumenism is a religious movement that aims to the reunion of all christian churches into one. The origin of the word seems to come from the Greek word ‟Oikumenike„, that refers to the populated world and specifically refers to the Roman Empire. There still is the possibility that this word comes from the latin word ‟oecumenicus„ or the French ‟oecumenique„. The modern ecumenical movement was initiated in 1910 by the Conference from Edinburgh (Scottland), followed by the one from 1923 from Oxford. At the Conference from Amsterdam, in 1948 one decided upon the foundation of the "World Council of the Church" residing in Geneva, also called the Ecumenical Council of the Church. Today, it has 348 of member churches and it is represented by a little more than a quarter of the Christians from the entire world. The Ecumenical Council of the Church is not a mega-church, but an environment of discussions and dialogue and the decisions are to be taken by the member churches. In 1959 is founded the Conference of the European Churches, that is an ecumenical movement dating from the same year. The residence is established in Geneva and it now has two work offices in Brussels and Strasbourg. Its members are 126 Orthodox, Protestant, Anglican and Old-Catholic Churches as well as 43 associated organizations from all European countries. The Roman-Catholic Church is not a member of this forum but there is a good cooperation between the two due to the Council of the European Catholic Bishopric Conferences. In the last years one speaks more and more often of the Christian reunion under the ecumenism. This is to be accomplished only by respecting the Christian values common for all cults, but also by keeping the identity of each church. The term of "ecumenism" cannot be extended over the sphere of Christianity. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The ecumenical movement is a reality of our present times, but things are far from being plain and simple. Christian Churches acknowledge as ecumenism the need to commonly assume solutions to some general social and moral issues. But when it comes to a real, effective get-together, be it ecclesiastic or sacramental, betwen the Catholic Church on the one hand the Orthodox Churches on the other, the attempt is blocked by the Catholic principles concerning the Pope`s infailibility anh his primate. This article analyzes the critical stance af the Catholic theologian Hans Kung, regarding the ecclesiologic principles of the Catholic Church. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

His Eminence Metropolitan Antonie, a distinct figure of the Romanian contemporary Orthodoxy, proposed a viable ecumenical pedagogy to the Romanian modern theology not only for the ecumenical dialogue but also for the academic development of those who really consider the effort of the ecumenical dialogue. The mystagogical basis of education, the cultural matrix as fundament for the dialogue, the effort of studying and outlining the ecumenical documents, listening to the others, discerning and simplifying information are only some of the aspects mentioned by the Metropolitan in his personal ecumenical practice. The clarity of his discourse, the similitude to important spiritual names of the Orthodox world, his balanced message, the transmission of a fair ecumenical culture to the Orthodox people are the means by which the Metropolitan Antonie has marked the consciousness of his contemporaries. The study deals with these aspects, focussing on fundamental texts for the argumentation of a specific mission. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CHRISTIAN union , *ECUMENICAL movement , *CHRISTIAN sects , *SALVATION in Christianity , *UNA Sancta Movement , *THEOLOGICAL education - Abstract
The present study analyses Dumitru Staniloae's attitude towards his contemporary ecumenism in particular and towards the ecumenical movement in general. At the same time it approaches the specific contribution of the Romanian Orthodox theologian to the inter-confessional and ecumenical dialogue both through his participations in certain ecumenical meetings and by spreading some key-concepts in order to understand the ecumenism, especially from the Orthodox perspective. Father Staniloae's theological work represents an authentic invitation to dialogue between Churches and even between religions founded on love and on the cosmic dimension of the salvation achieved by Jesus Christ. To his opinion, the Orthodox Church is Una Sancta, always opened in Christ's love towards the others, always receptive to their soteriological destiny in Christ, the center of creation. According to Olivier Clément, André Scrima practises a „contemplative minds' ecumenism”, that, in my opinion, is to be understood as a methodical attempt to exploit the noetic potential of ecumenism. The present article tries to follow the contemplative topics which André Scrima, through his „oriental point of view”, relates to ecumenism, namely the spiritual experience of the unity, the articulation between the uncreated and created dimensions of reality, the person's identity and the status of history as moment of divine economy. I also raise the question of what quality should be assigned to the distinction between the Christian Occidental and Christian Oriental styles; a distinction used by André Scrima to set up the concept of Christian „complementarity” or „completeness”, as a precious benefit of the ecumenical effort. Although the ecumenism is a characteristic concept of the modern and contemporary Christianity, its principles can also be noticed in the work and activity of many Christian personalities across history. The present article proposes an analysis of Saint Isaac the Syrian's work from an ecumenical perspective. The manner in which his work and his biography have been transmitted and perceived, as well as the sacramental theology the east-Syrian mystic developed, open the possibility for new insights and new ways of approaching the ecumenical dialogue. It is particularly his inclusive Eucharistic vision, according to which the Holy Eucharist should only be denied to those who disbelieve its role and its forgiving and redeeming power, which represents nowadays a challenge for those involved in ecumenical relationships. Between the 5
th of May and the 2nd of June, 553, the 5th Ecumenical Synod took place in the capital of the Byzantine Empire. Although the original purpose of the synod was the matter of the Three chapters, the conclusions touched several other theological points. The conclusions of the decisions were formulated briefly in 15 statements under the form of anathematisms. In the 11th anathematism, together with the heretics condemned in the first four synods, Origen's name is mentioned. The presence of his name here contributed to the setting of three hypotheses concerning Origen's condemnation during the 5th Ecumenical Synod: 1. The 5th Ecumenical Synod gathered to analyze the situation concerning origenism and condemned it together with Origen himself during some sessions for which the documents were lost. 2. The 5th Ecumenical Synod gathered to analyze the matter of the Three Chapters and not that of Origenism. The bishops taking part in the 5th Ecumenical Synod studied the case of Origen during some preliminary sessions, before the official opening of the synod. 3. The 5th Ecumenical Synod was not concerned with the Origenism, and its name within the mentioned anathematism was just an interpolation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published
