It has been shown that training with resistance sled sprints (RSS) can improve running performance, but the effect of different RSS loads on sprint performance is unclear. This study aimed to examine this effect on running velocity, step frequency, and step length. Twenty-one collegiate track and field male athletes (20.6 ± 1.3 years) performed eight 60-m sprints with and without a resisted sled. The sled loads were individually set based on the participant's body mass (BM) and were applied in 10% increments from 20%–80% of BM. A 20-minute rest was allowed between trials. The running distance was divided into six 10-m phases. We analyzed the mean running velocity, step frequency, and step length at each phase, observing significant interactions in each. All indices decreased with increasing loads. Significant differences were observed in running speed and step frequency between all loads, except between 70%–80% of BM, and in the step length between all loads. Additionally, the maximum values for running velocity, step frequency, and length appeared in different phases according to the load. In addition to kinematics, coaches and athletes should focus on setting running distances and loads in RSS training.

The aim of this study was to compare the effects of velocity-oriented (VOTF) and strengthoriented (SOTF) functional training (TF) on different parameters of running change of direction (COD), jumping ability and linear velocity in under-20 soccer players. For this, 22 players were randomly assigned to VOFT and SOFT groups. The participants were evaluated at the pre- and post-intervention moment in the L-running test to the right side (CODLD) and to the left side (CODLE) to evaluate the fast COD (≤ 90°) and in the zigzag test to evaluate the strength COD (> 90°). Jump height was measured by countermovement jump (CMJ) and squat jump (SJ). Maximum speed was assessed by the 20-meter sprint test. The change of direction deficit index (COD deficit) was calculated for all COD tests. Both groups showed significant improvement over time in CODLD, zigzag test, COD-deficit CODLD, and COD zigzag deficit. The 20-meter sprint test, CODLE, and COD-deficit CODLE did not differ significantly for either group at any time point. Despite not showing a statistically significant difference over time, CMJ had a small effect size for VOFT and SOFT. At the same time, the SJ showed a moderate effect size for VOFT and a small effect size for SOFT. Furthermore, there was no significant difference between groups for any variable. Therefore, it is concluded that the application of FT protocols oriented towards speed or strength as a complement to tactical technical training, over four weeks, promotes significant changes in different COD running parameters in under-20 soccer players. Some scientific evidence shows that military personnel, including lifeguard firefighters, with high levels of physical fitness may be able to perform their work tasks more efficiently and make the best decisions. The present work aimed to investigate the correlation between anthropometric variables and physical performance in lifeguard firefighters. The sample consisted of 105 men, lifeguard firefighters from the military fire department of the state of Rio de Janeiro. On the first visit, the following procedures were performed: a) completion of the par-Q and the Informed Consent Form; b) anthropometric and body composition measurements. On the second visit, the following tests were performed: 1) 20-meter sprint; 2) zigzag COD; 3) Running Anaerobic Sprint Test. Positive correlations were observed between abdominal perimeter and time in the 20-meter sprint, time in the zig-zag COD, total time in the Running Anaerobic Sprint Test; between waist-to-hip ratio and time in the 20-meter sprint, total time in the Running Anaerobic Sprint Test. Furthermore, negative correlations were observed between abdominal perimeter and velocity in the 20-meter sprint, velocity in the zig-zag COD; between waist-to-hip ratio and speed in the 20-meter sprint. However, no correlations were observed between the perimeter of the abdomen and the fatigue index; between waist-to-hip ratio and zig-zag time and speed COD, fatigue index. it was verified that, in lifeguard firefighters, high scores of abdominal circumference and waist-to-hip ratio negatively influence physical performance. TECHNOLOGICAL innovations , *EDUCATIONAL planning , *PODCASTING , *DESIGN thinking , *COLLECTIVE action , *PROBLEM solving , *SPRINTING - Abstract
This article highlights part of the research carried out in the professional Master in Education and New Technologies, in a teaching institution and by the research group of a federal public university, which investigate issues related to the design of inclusion and other aspects associated with creative and collective actions for the implementation of interface design projects for applications and podcasts. From a demand to generate new ideas, procedures were applied for this purpose, to supply different educational contexts. The methodology is based on research-application, through which researchers adopt collective practices to develop and apply to more creative design proposals or problem solving (Plomp et al., 2018). After that experience, three procedures or techniques for generating creative ideas and collectively were studied and applied: Brainstorming; Design Thinking and Sprint. In this way, we seek to discuss in this article how procedures to stimulate creativity can serve to engage learners to implement collaborative projects in the classroom or even for different educational needs that seek inter-subjective relationships and interactions. The following authors are highlighted in the theoretical support: Bender (2015); Behrens (2014); Fleith (2001; 2006), Valente and Almeida (2014), Garcia and Czeszak (2019), among others. The results, still preliminary, guide the possibilities of a framework of good practices that align procedures that generate creative ideas, based on the support of active methodologies, for the development of educational projects, as long as the participation of students is considered positive, consistent and engaged. This study intended to analyze the pacing profiles in 5,000 m and 10,000 m race, men and women, in Brazil Athletics Trophy. Thirty-six high-level runners, being 19 women, participated in this study. The races were filmed (iPhone 8 Plus). The device was positioned on the outside of the track and a cone on the inside edge of the finish line. This procedure allowed the acquisition of lap times. The plotting of the percentage of average speed for each lap of the 400 m within a race was used to analyze the pacing profile adopted. Differences between the laps were analyzed through one-way ANOVA for repeated measures. The significance level was established as p<0.05. In the women's 5,000 m (1.200 m - 4.000 m; p=0.003-0.045) and 10,000 m (2.400 m - 8.400; p= 0.01-0.04), was employed the positive pacing profile. In men's race, the varied profile was adopted in 5,000 m race (800m - 1.600m, p=0.001-0.019; 3.200m, p=0.00-0.02; last 200m, p= 0.027) and the constant during 10,000 m race (p= 0.98). In these competitions in which the most important is the finishing positions, opponents' actions can influence the tactical decision. Therefore, to succeed, the athletes should remain in the group and sprint in the race's final meters when the result is defined. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Magnesium (Mg) is a fast production energy metabolism intermediary element and is responsible for muscle function essential intermittent ability sports. Repeated sprints ability (RSA) is determinant for athletic performance. The study aimed to analyze relationship between serum magnesium status and RSA in 31 children aged 11.9 ± 1.5 years, of both sexes, participating of a sports initiation program. Mg status was determined through blood sample analysis and RSA was measured through a 6 x 20-meter protocol with 20 seconds of rest. It was used a correlation analysis(p<0,05) to verify the relationship between serum Mg and sprint indices. We found a moderate tendency ratio (p = 0.06) between magnesium concentration and the best performance among sprints. Correlations were weak to the other indices (total time, velocity decrease and mean time). Results suggests a possible contribution of serum magnesium only for initial sprints. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The purpose of this study was to verify the kinematic behavior of young runners during 50 and 100m sprints andtheir blood lactate concentration at the end of these sprints. Kinematic analysis was performed on the speed curve andsome variables analyzed at the end of these runs. Fourteen individuals took part in this study, being 7 males (12.35 ± 0.83years) and 7 females (12.61 ± 0.70 years). The speed curve was constructed using the panning method. The remainingkinematic variables were measured using two-dimensional videography with a Peak Motus video camera operating at 180Hz. Blood samples were taken from the runners’ earlobes in order to assay lactate concentration. The results demonstratethat at both distances top speed is reached at 40m. This, however, corresponds to 80% of the distance of the 50m sprint, but just 40% of the 100m run. The significant differences in kinematic variables observed between the two sprints were:increased duration of the support phase in the males, decreased stride frequency among the females and lower averagespeed at the end of 100m in comparison to 50m, in all individuals. The highest blood lactate concentrations were observedafter the 100m run. It was concluded that there was greater loss of performance during 100m, based on the differencesbetween some kinematic variables and the major loss of speed. Moreover, despite lactate concentration being higher afterthis run, the values were still considered low, indicating a lack of anaerobic capacity in these individuals.
