- Abstract
The title of the book of Manuela Fleming serves as inspiration for this case report, that addresses adolescence, a phase in which the discovery of the body and identity, can only occur when associated with a simultaneous process of individuation. When the family system has undefined limits between its members and does not stimulate the individual's autonomy, there is fertile ground for the appearance of psychopathology. This work intends to portray the diagnostic and therapeutic process of a young man with mental illness, in partial hospitalization. The treatment is group orientated, with other adolescents, and complemented with an individual and familiar approach. The diagnosis of Somatic Symptom Disturbance was established, and was identified a pattern of identity interdependence with the paternal figure. There were significant clinical improvements throughout the treatment, without relevant psychopharmacological changes. During the therapeutic process, the patient experienced a new relational model with the pairs and adults and there was created a space for the family to be heard, allowing a slow and progressive autonomization of the adolescent in relation to the family and the family in relation to the young patient. The case described aims to transpose into clinical practice, the theoretical concepts of the dynamic relationship between the onset of psychopathology in childhood and adolescence and the functioning of the family system.
