ABSTRACT Objectives: to verify the association between sociodemographic and reproductive characteristics with rural workers’ reproductive autonomy. Methods: a cross-sectional study, with a sample of 346 women and application of the Reproductive Autonomy Scale. Multinomial regression was performed to analyze associations between independent variables and outcomes. Results: in the analysis of subscales “Decision-making”, “My sexual partner or someone else such as a parent”, “Both me and my partner” and “Me”, women experienced greater reproductive autonomy in relation to their partners. For outcomes “Decision about which method to use”, “When to have a baby” or “About unplanned pregnancy”, the highest prevalence was for category “Me”, with statistically significant associations. Conclusions: the sociodemographic and reproductive characteristics among the most vulnerable women, in terms of the social, economic and cultural context in which they are inserted, may be associated with greater difficulties in exercising reproductive autonomy.

Purpose: To determine the association between diagnosis of COVID-19 and the economic class, race/skin color, and adherence to social distancing in Brazilian university students. Methods: This is a nationwide cross-sectional study carried out with online questionnaires applied to Brazilian university students, at 94 universities in the public and private education network. Self-reported age, sex, economic class data, race/skin color, COVID-19 diagnosis, and adherence to social distancing measures were collected. Results: 5,984 individuals were evaluated. No significant association was found between the diagnosis of COVID-19 and economic class and race/skin color in the multivariable analysis. However, we observed that there were significant associations between the diagnosis of COVID-19 and partial adherence to social distancing, with leaving home only for going to work (PR: 1.35; 95% CI: 1.10–1.66; p < 0.01) and with non-adherence to social distancing (PR: 1.96; 95% CI: 1.29–2.97; p

PERCEIVED Stress Scale , *BODY mass index , *SOCIOECONOMIC factors , *NUTRITIONAL status , *ECONOMIC status , *ANTIDEPRESSANTS , *MENTAL health of students , *PSYCHOLOGICAL stress - Abstract
Introduction: University students deal daily with various stressors that can negatively affect their physical and mental health. Objectives: To evaluate the perceived stress in university students and analyze the relationship between this and nutritional status, socioeconomic and demographic variables. Methods: This is an observational cross-sectional study. Participants were 537 university students (25.27 ± 7.84 years) enrolled at Faculdade Barretos, from May 2015 to June 2017. The participants' socioeconomic and demographic information was collected. Perceived Stress Scale / PSS14 scale was used to assess perceived stress. Nutritional status was assessed by body mass index (BMI). Associations of interest were estimated using Chi-square test, considering a significance level of 5%. Results: Most participants were women (62.7%), single (78.4%), with economic level B (45.4%), residents with parents (72.5%), workers (80.7%). The prevalence was overweight students (pre-obesity and obesity) (48.8%). Of the participants who presented weight variation, 62.2% gained weight during the undergraduate course. Factors associated with perceived stress in college students were gender, economic status, use of antidepressant and/or anxiolytic medications, course performance, and weight variation. Conclusion: Most participants are overweight (pre-obesity and obesity) and belong to the group with the highest stress, but in this study we found no relationship between the perceived stress in students and their nutritional status. Perceived stress was associated with the variables gender, economic level, use of medications, course performance and weight variation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study analyzed the factors associated with sedentary behavior (SB) among Family Health Strategy (FHS) users with type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) and/or hypertension in the cities handing the four healthcare administrative regions of Pernambuco. Participated 391 diabetic and/or hypertensive enrolled in the FHS, aged > 20 years. Data related to SB from the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) and STATA was used for the analysis, considering as outcome the sitting time ≥ 6 hours. The associations between variables and outcome, a binary logistic regression was performed. The prevalence of CS> 6 hours was 21.9% and 23.9% on weekdays and weekends, respectively. Factors associated with SC> 6 hours after adjustment, with p-value <0.05 were: Week - living in the countryside, family income < one minimum wage and being physically inactive; Weekend - Indoors, men, > 60 years of age, family income < one minimum wage and physically inactive. SB is a relevant issue today and emphasizes the importance of broader health care for users with chronic diseases, with public policies that consider the reduction of this behavior. The cultural exchanges resulting from religion are a strong link among social subjects and permeate relations across the most different levels of society, regardless economic status, political preference, age, or gender. This article aims at investigate how the monthly national circulation Salmos & Anjos magazine appropriates symbolic and textual elements of popular Catholicism and reproduces them in their covers, and if preserving the information meaning and ensuring its reception. The research will focus on Jesús Martín-Barbero's (1997) and José Luiz Braga's (2012) central ideas on mediation and mediatization, respectively. Furthermore, it will study the culture vision as an interaction of social practices proposed by Stuart Hall's cultural studies (1980) and Luiz Beltrão's (1965) Folkcomunicação concept, which is closely related to popular religious mediations. Introduction: Organ transplantation is a surgical procedure considered as an effective treatment for terminal illness. Performing a transplant may improve the quality of life of patients as well as in the different factors that may interfere with this perception. This study aims to evaluate the influence of socioeconomic factors inherent to the transplant on the perception of the quality of life in patients who have undergone organ transplants. Materials and Methods: A descriptive, quantitative, cross-sectional study was conducted by means of a socioeconomic questionnaire and a quality of life questionnaire, the World Health Organization Quality of Life- BREF. The sample consisted of 258 participants. Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis tests were conducted as well as the Spearman's correlation. The level of significance adopted was p<0.05. Results: The results show that receiving an income of 2 salaries made a significant difference with respect to those participants receiving a lower income. Married participants showed a significant difference in the psychological aspect compared to those with another marital status. Liver transplant patients showed a significant difference in the self-assessment with respect to other transplant recipients. Discussion: Transplants, despite not providing a definitive cure, rehabilitates patients, enabling them to have pleasant experiences that had been forgotten due to the illness itself and that have been able to gradually experience again. Conclusions: Patients perceived a satisfactory quality of life when received high income, had undergone a liver transplant and had a partner, having a positive impact on this perception. The study aimed to compare health indicators, including the concept of health (CH), level of physical activity (LPA) and anthropometric data, of high school students of private, state and federal schools in the city of Leopoldina -- MG, Brazil. The sample consisted of 388 students, being 205 boys (age: 16.6 ± 1.0 years, BMI: 23.6 ± 3.4 kg/m²) and 183 girls (age: 16.4 ± 1.0 years; BMI: 23.6 ± 2.8 kg/m²). The health understanding infographic and the international physical activity questionnaire (IPAQ) were used to verify CH and LPA, respectively. Anthropometric data were also collected, including body mass, height, body mass index (BMI) and waist circumference (WC). The majority of students (66.7%) presented BMI within the normal range (boys: 23.6 ± 3.4 kg/m²; girls: 23.6 ± 2.8 kg/m²), and 33.3% was overweight. It was verified that more than half (54.6%) of the students were considered insufficiently active/sedentary, and the majority (56.2%) presented CH classified as preventive. In state and private schools, it was found that the higher the LPA, the lower the WC. It was concluded that the prevalence of sedentary lifestyle in the three educational networks surveyed is still high. It is suggested, therefore, the promotion of strategies of intervention through the school and socio-political-economic measures, aiming at raising the LPA and improving students' understanding of health. This paper investigates the relationship between the impact of Bolsa Família Program in the Brazilian population and the result of the presidential elections of 2006. The database involves municipal information provided by MDS, IBGE and TSE. To control the experiment, the eventual influences of other variables in the determination of this relationship had been studied. All those variables come from specific characteristics of the cities, such as: city with predominant urban or not urban population; size of the city population; among others. The results state that the Bolsa Família was, in fact, a very important factor in the determination of the votes in Lula. It was, in itself, responsible by 45% of the total votes in Lula. "Stability and Full Employment": the origins of Kaldor's framework for economic fluctuation and growth analysis. Nicholas Kaldor is known as an author who often changed his mind throughout his career. This is the case of his analyses of the process of economic growth, in which he proposed various models leading to quite different and, occasionally, conflicting conclusions. Specifically, Kaldor changed his position concerning the stability of the full employment situation. This paper shows that, in spite of those changes, Kaldor in fact used different versions of the same basic analytical framework and that this framework has its origin in his paper "Stability and Full Employment" published in the Economic Journal in December 1938. Objectives: to identify overweight incidence in adolescents as well as associated environmental, biological, social and economic factors in the municipality of Toledo, Paraná. Methods: a cross sectional study was performed with adolescents enrolled in middle school aged 14 to 19 years old, in day classes of the urban area in the municipality. Body mass/age rates were used to diagnose the risk of overweight exposure. A pre-tested questionnaire was used to survey personal, anthropometric, biologic and life style related data such as: the use of TV, video and computer, practicing of sports and number of meals. To establish social and economic status the criterion used was that of the Economic Classification of Brazil from the National Survey Companies Association. Results: 3.8% of the adolescents were underweight and 10.2% were overweight. A statistically significant association was determined for the incidence of overweight among adolescents who had four or more meals per day (5.5%) and among the ones who had up to three meals a day (16.3%). When stratifying overweight by classes of income, the overweight incidence rate had a tendency of decreasing as the economic class decreased. Conclusions: overweight prevalence is higher than underweight; the last is below the rates determined in other Brazilian municipalities. Less frequency of meals and higher income classes were associated to overweight. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of this thesis was to investigate the evolution of the socio-occupational status in Rio Grande do Norte from 2001 to 2008, based on the characterization of the socio-economic status of this State from the analysis of labor market norte-rio-grandense . The study, specifically, drew a comparison between the dynamics of the labor market in Rio Grande do Norte and the capital city, Natal. From this perspective, the purpose was to make a relationship between the social division of labor and its effects on the socio-spatial division, represented in the "macro scale" by the federal unit and the "micro level" for the capital; locus of economic and population concentration. The collection of data on the labor market had as a major source PNAD/IBGE, characterizing the labor market in many ways: people of working age, economically active population and employed and unemployed people, classified by age, sex, color, education, income and social protection condition. However, as for the socio-occupational division, we follow the methodology used by the research group on national television, based in IPPUR /UFRJ, called Monitoring of the Metropolis," which rallied twenty-four groups that aggregate the occupations found in the PNAD/IBGE, in eight groups of socio-occupational categories, according to the similarity between them. It was used in the socio-spatial cutting two relevant discussions, which are inter-related and were characterized as crucial points in developing the research problem: the former was related to the influence of the hegemony of merchant capital in the labor market in Rio Grande North and, the latter, it referred the socio-economic relations between the territory and the variable occupation. Lastly, the results all indicated that in Rio Grande do Norte, as a peripheral state, has suffered the devastating influence of the hegemony of capital purely commercial basis, where "wealth" of capitalism is generated through the sphere of mere movement of goods and services rather than a productive process due to the social relations of production more advanced. We have a little advanced economic structure, with a tertiary sector that has propagated under-employment or disguised unemployment. Similarly, the agricultural sector has been presented as an example of greater social degradation of working conditions in the state. The secondary sector, in turn, also was not behind this uncertainty; on the contrary, confirmed that condition, with poor levels of income, low education of the workforce and a high degree of social helplessness, even in the state capital, space full urban area, which although always appear with a favorable condition compared to Province, in practically most of the variables studied, was also reflected at the same time the author of a structurally underdeveloped condition O objetivo da tese foi verificar a evolução da estrutura sócio-ocupacional no Rio Grande do Norte no período de 2001 a 2008, tendo por base a caracterização da estrutura sócio-econômica do estado a partir da análise do mercado de trabalho norte-rio-grandense.

In order to evaluate the use of Electricity Consumption as a Socioeconomic Status, this research analyzes information in two levels of geographical aggregation. At the first level, under a territorial perspective, it investigates indicators of Income and Electric Energy Consumption aggregated by weighted areas (set of census sectors) in the city of São Paulo and uses the microdata of Demographic Census 2000 jointly with residential consumers’ database of AES Eletropaulo. It applies Spatial Auto-Regressive (SAR) models, Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR), and an unprecedented combined model (GWR+SAR), developed in this study. Several neighborhood matrices were used to assess the influence of space (with Downtown-Suburbs pattern) of the variables under study. The variables showed strong spatial autocorrelation (Moran's I greater than 58% for the Energy Consumption and more than 75% for the Household Income). Relations between Income and Electricity Consumption were very strong (coefficients of determination of Income reached values from 0.93 to 0.98). At the second level, the household one, it uses data collected in the Annual Satisfaction Survey of Residential Customer, coordinated by the Brazilian Electricity Distributors Association (ABRADEE) for the years 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. Weighted Linear Model (WLM), GWR and SAR were applied to survey data with interviews allocated on the centroid and the seat of the districts. For the year 2009, we obtained the actual locations of the households interviewed. Additionally, 6 algorithms of points distribution within the polygons of the districts have been developed. The results from models based on centroids and seats obtained a coefficient of determination R 2 of around 0.45 for the GWR technique, while the models based on scattering points within the polygons of the districts have reduced this account to about 0.40. These results suggest that the algorithms of allocation of points in polygons allow the observation of a more realistic association between the constructs analyzed. The combined use of the findings shows that the billing information of the electricity distributors has great potential to support strategic decisions. Because they are current, available and monthly updated, socioeconomic indicators based on energy consumption can be very useful as an aid to processes of classification, concentration and estimation of household income.

The main research objective was to analyze the relationship between household Electricity Consumption and Family Income in the city of São Paulo in order to evaluate the potential benefits of adding electricity consumption to the Brazilian Economic Classification Criteria, an index frequently used to estimate a family’s purchasing power. To achieve these goals, statistical models were developed at two different levels of aggregation. The first and most disaggregated level was the household, for which data from three different research studies were combined (ABRADEE Research, PROCEL Possessions and Habits Research, and Microcredit for Low Income Families Research by FGV-EAESP). The second level (the territorial one), with household aggregated at the level of weighted areas (set of census tracts), used income indicators, electric energy consumption and economic classification data from the Demographic Census 2000 of the city of São Paulo and the AES Eletropaulo household databases. The results in household investigation show that energy consumption alone cannot substitute for Brazilian Criteria. However, the combined use of the Brazilian Criteria, the household electricity monthly bill and the number of residents (or number of bedrooms) in the household significantly improves household income estimates, as shown by the results of classification tress model, in which the resulting predicted distribution curve better approximates the real distribution, although coefficient of determination R-squared grows from only 0,577 to 0,582. However, contrary to a priori expectation, among low income household, the level of association between income and electricity consumption was very weak. Nevertheless, household income forecast can be enhanced, with an improvement of the model’s R-squared from 0,222 to 0,300 when the electricity bill and the number of resident are included in a regression model of household income against the Brazilian Criteria. At the weighted area level, the relationship between Income, Electricity Consumption and Brazilian Criteria’s Economic Classification are very strong, with coefficients of determination R-squared ranging from 0,912 to 0,960. This results supports the use of the mean household electricity consumption, at a territorial aggregated level, as an excellent regional indicator of income concentration in the city of São Paulo. As it is an easily available and monthly update information, the electric energy consumption indicators, if made available by energy distribution companies, will be useful for strategy formulation and decision making for which household income classification data are critical.
