The finite element method (MEF) has been a methodology proposed in the laboratory evaluation of the mechanical behavior of endodontic instruments, as well as the potential of this resource for laboratory research. A review of 30 articles in the literature on the finite element method (MEF) was carried out to evaluate if the method is an advantageous alternative in the study of the mechanical behavior of endodontic files. The fracture of the endodontic instruments is linked to the geometry of the product and the finite element method allows to analyze with greater precision the distribution of tension throughout the instrument. Given the information gathered in the literature, this method allows access to information that is very difficult to obtain with other mechanical tests in the laboratory, thus being a valuable tool to assist engineering teams in important tasks in the development or adjustment of a product.
