This study aims to identify symptoms of anxiety, depression, and stress in multi-professional residents of a public hospital. In this descriptive and cross-sectional survey, 60 residents from eight health specialties responded to the Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale. It was found that 93.3% were women, of an average 25 years of age. The participants' average level of anxiety was classified as moderate and the levels of depression and stress were classified as mild. A difference was perceived between first-year (R1) and second-year (R2) residents, with the average of R2 being higher than that of R1 regarding anxiety, depression and stress. Almost all (98.3%) stated they had already felt stressed during their residency, with "workload" being the most cited stressor. Half of them said they had thought about giving up residence, with "physical and emotional exhaustion" being the most frequent reason. The most cited coping strategy was “meditation / breathing exercises”. The Smoking Cessation Program (SCP) aims at abstinence from smoking through intervention focusing on biological, psychological and behavioral addiction. This study investigated the relationship between addiction types, pattern of consumption, level of craving, and motivation for abstinence among smokers enrolled in an SCP. A total of 179 smokers (56.7% women) were enrolled in the 11 groups of the SCP. The participants presented an age mean of 41 years and smoked a mean of 19 cigarettes. The average smoking time of the participants is 25 years. All of them answered specific instruments to measure biological, psychological and behavioral addiction, level of cleft and motivation to quit smoking and participated in an individual interview in which they provided the biological measurement of the level of carbon monoxide. The results showed a positive correlation among several variables, emphasizing the three types of addiction among themselves and the number of cigarettes smoked per day, time of consumption and craving; and between two measures of biological addiction (self-reported and biological). At the beginning of smoking behavior, psychological addiction is more intense, and the others become more intense over time and intensity of consumption.

- Abstract
Introduction: Although there are diversity of concepts, there is a consensus on leisure as an extraordinary phenomenon to everyday life. Studies have divided itself between the prospects for leisure time as activity or attitude, it often correlating with risk behaviors. Objective: the aim of this review is to verify whether attitudinal components related to leisure experience of adolescents and young people are related to the reduction in the use of psychoactive substances. Method: integrative review from the main query databases in health, followed by presentation of the articles according to the PRISMA method. The criteria for review and inclusion were presented by the structure PICOS. Results: we retrieved 555 articles, but only 9 articles met the criteria for systematic analysis of the data. Conclusion: studies suggest intrinsic motivation and boredom as risk factors for substance abuse. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

DRUG abuse prevention , *FAMILY relations , *TEENAGERS , *QUESTIONNAIRES , *SUBSTANCE abuse - Abstract
Scarce are the primary prevention programs to the use of drugs aimed at adolescents, mainly those which involve the family, particularly the parents. The way drugs are focused by the media raises many doubts and fears in the families, often increasing their concerns and prejudices. The objective of this study was to investigate the fears and reactions of adolescents' parents in relation to their children's drug use. We prepared a questionnaire comprising 40 questions and applied it to 87 parents of adolescent students (aged 12 to 19). The sample was made up of 73% of mothers with a means age of 42. The most prevalent issues during the conversations were sex (23%), drugs and profession (19% each). The fear of their children's drug use was reported by 94% of the interviewees. Out of the total number of fathers, 32% reported being aware of the use of some kind of drug by their children. Their reactions when they knew about the use were "talking with their children" (81%) and "looking for guidance" (62%). The most frequent feelings were fear (69%) and helplessness (25%). These data should not be generalized, since they were obtained from a convenience sample. However, the study points to the importance of enlarging the programs of primary and secondary prevention, still incipient in Brazil. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this sense, children's hospitalization has a strong impact both on the lives of parents and the immediate family, being considered a highly stressful source. Thus, the development of new psychological instruments is important to better understand the coping strategies of these caregivers in the context of their children's hospitalization. The objective of this work is to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Coping Scale of Hospitalization, Illness and Treatment - Parents Version (COPHAT-P). The sample consisted of 98 individuals over 18 years of age and who had children with a history of hospitalization in the last twelve months. The participants filled out the following instruments: Sociodemographic questionnaire composed of the following items: sex, age, education, marital status, religion, occupation, length of stay of the child and diagnosis of the disease. Coping Scale of Hospitalization, Illness and Treatment Version for Parents (COPHAT-P) which has 35 items of the Likert type and assesses the coping of hospitalization in parents based on four factors: 1) Understanding the disease; 2) Hospitalization, 3) Procedures and side effects of treatment, 4) Expectation of returning to school. Coping Scale of Hospitalization version for caregivers (COPE-H), composed of 66 questions of the Likert type, distributed in three factors: Coping poorly adaptive; Adaptive Coping and Coping of voluntary and involuntary engagement. The data of the sociodemographic variables will be analyzed using descriptive statistics (Chi Square) or inferential (Analysis of Variance). The psychometric properties of COPHAT-P was be assessed using Exploratory Factor Analysis with the Maximum Likelihood extraction and Varimax rotation method. The main results indicated that COPHAT-P is an instrument with reliable psychometric properties and can be used in the virtual context. AFE indicated a solution with three factors: (i) Hospitalization; (ii) Expectations of returning to school; (iii) Understanding the disease and treatment. All items on the scale had a factorial load above 0.3 and were maintained in this version.

No. of bitstreams: 1 RENAN DE MORAIS AFONSO.pdf: 2241759 bytes, checksum: a50889d3fc7739dd654d7ae03e34f874 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2020-02-10 Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Cient?fico e Tecnol?gico - CNPq Adolescence is a critical period for human development, marked by major physical, social, cognitive and behavioral changes. An aggravating factor for the development and use of psychoactive substances in adolescence, as it is a risk factor and is related to factors such as peer influence, family violence and substance use by relatives. However, adolescence is also an important period for positive youth development, mainly because it is a propitious phase for the elaboration of Life Projects (PV). Thus, a PV favors the engagement of healthier exercises, reducing risk performance and protective function for risk factors. Thus, this work, through a collective case study, analyzes how relationships between life events and life projects of seven adolescents who were in specialized outpatient follow-up for problematic use of psychoactive substances in the interior of S?o Paulo. Semi-structured interviews were conducted on adolescents' life histories, focusing on substance use and on the adolescent's Life Project. The results were organized into literature-based categories and the PVs were analyzed based on the Adolescent Life Project Scale (EPVA). The results showed that all adolescents had problems with the school and had parents who used the SPA, five suffered from illicit acts, and the three had socio-educational response. Regarding their Life Projects, a higher frequency was observed in relation to the Positive and Related Affective Aspirations dimensions, followed by Work, Study and Material Goods. Religion / Spirituality and Life Sense were the least frequent PV dimensions. It is suggested that other studies focusing on the Outpatient Life Project of adolescents for treatment of SPA use be selected, as the construction of the Life Project can serve as an important tool for the organization of the present moment and the future of these adolescents.

- Abstract
Although many schools perform preventive interventions for reducing drug use, little is known about their implementation processes and results. Accordingly, this study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of three different types of preventive intervention performed in the school setting for reducing substance use among students. The study comprised 1316 students from the 9th year of elementary school to the 3rd year of secondary school in 8 public schools in the city of Guarulhos, São Paulo state, Brazil. Students were randomly assigned to the intervention groups or a control group and were evaluated at two different time-points regarding substance use. The results indicated that interventions performed by teachers were most effective in reducing both substance use and the severity of substance-associated problems. Interventions performed by experts were partially effective, although they only reduced use among experimental users. The results of "Single lecture" interventions revealed that such approaches are counterproductive. In summary, preventive actions that were contextualized to the student's reality and the school environment and that included the active involvement of both teacher and student were most effective at reducing the prevalence of substance use and the severity of associated problems in students.

- Abstract
Objective: The main purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of a brief intervention and a preventive orientation on the use of alcohol and other drugs directed towards adolescents., Methods: Ninety nine youths who sought medical assistance in an out patient service specialized in adolescents were classified, according to their level of consumption of substances, into users during the last month (UM) or non users during the last month (NUM). Each of these was divided into four groups: a control group of users in the last month (COUM), a control group of non users in the last month (CONUM), a Brief Intervention group (BI--in case they were regular users) and a Preventive Orientation group (PO--in case they were non users in the last month). The preventive orientation lasted 2-3 minutes and the brief intervention took about 20 minutes, both followed a structured schedule. All participants were followed-up and evaluated for a 6 months period., Results: In the 6-month follow-up, a significant increase in cannabis, alcohol and tobacco consumption, as well as in the intensity of related-problems, was observed in the CONUM group. The increase of alcohol and tobacco consumption observed in the PO group had a significantly lesser frequency and lower intensity than in the CONUM group. Moreover, no increase in cannabis consumption was observed in this group. The BI group showed a significant reduction in the number of users during the last month with respect to most substances, as well as in relation to substance-related problems., Conclusion: Our results confirm that a single brief intervention session is effective in reducing consumption of psychoactive substances in adolescents. Although influence of other factors could not be discarded, preventive orientation reduced the increase of cannabis consumption but increased use of tobacco and alcohol. Further and more in depth studies are required to evaluate the usefulness of preventive programs on alcohol and other drug consumption, in order to bring to light more effective and comprehensive approaches.

- Abstract
Background: Considering the increasing levels of psychoactive substance use in Brazil and around the world, it is necessary the development of an instrument to early detection, that could be considered valid, reliable and useful at primary health care settings. In order to do that, an international team of researchers, supported by the World Health Organization (WHO) developed the Alcohol Smoking and Substance Screening Test (ASSIST). The objective of the present study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Brazilian version of ASSIST, as well as its reliability and concurrent validity in the detection of psychoactive substance use and related problems., Methods: The ASSIST and three validated diagnostic instruments (Mini-Plus, AUDIT, RTQ) were applied to 99 patients of primary/secondary health care services and to 48 patients in treatment for alcohol and drug dependence in specialized services, at São Paulo and Curitiba cities., Results: The ASSIST' scores to alcohol showed good correlation with AUDIT' scores. The ASSIST presented high sensitivity and specificity in the detection of alcohol, cannabis and cocaine abuse/dependence, considering the MINI-Plus diagnostic the "gold-standard". The reliability of the instrument was good (Cronbach's alpha of 0.80 to alcohol, 0.79 to cannabis and 0.81 to cocaine)., Conclusions: The psychometric properties of the Brazilian version of the ASSIST seem to be satisfactory, recommending its use in patients of primary/secondary health care services.
