- Abstract
The study aims to describe the perception of seniors on the exercise of citizenship in the light of the thought of Maurice Merleau-Ponty, based on the notion of the sexed body and the other's body. Discloses was from the participation of 13 elderly, members of acquaintance groups in the city of Jequié/BA, which produced experiential descriptions in three focus group meetings, during the month of April in 2012. Such descriptions were submitted to ambiguity analytics, a technique that consists in suspending the theories and notice the ambiguities inherent in them. From this analysis, two categories have emerged: being an elderly citizen in the expression of the sexed body and being an elderly citizen in the expression of the other's body. The reflections have shown that the inclusion of elderly women in acquaintance groups and their desire to exercise citizenship occur, primarily, by the need to be accepted in society and recognized as subjects of law.

- Abstract
This paper is an integrative review analyzing the scientific production and legal documents regarding public policies for the elderly in Brazil. Research was conducted in the Virtual Health Library and Scopus databases, examining publications since 2003. Data were collected from June to September of 2011 using the following key words: "elderly" (idosos), "public policies" (políticas públicas), "elderly person" (pessoa idosa), "aging" (envelhecimento) and "civic participation" (participação cidadã). The search resulted in the selection of 15 articles and six legal documents targeted at the elderly in Brazil that were submitted to content analysis by categorization. The results revealed that aging in Brazil has occurred in the midst of adaptations entrenched in cultural biases, social, economic and educational discrepancies and the implementation of public welfare policies. There were few studies that indicated the importance of strengthening social movements that elicit discussion related to the elderly in Brazil. The conclusion reached is that the study will provide material for reflection about the construction of a new reality about aging in Brazil.

- Abstract
Organ donation is a complex process that challenges health system professionals and managers. This study aimed to introduce a theoretical model to organize brain-dead patient assistance and the organ donation process guided by the main lean thinking ideas, which enable production improvement through planning cycles and the development of a proper environment for successful implementation. Lean thinking may make the process of organ donation more effective and efficient and may contribute to improvements in information systematization and professional qualifications for excellence of assistance. The model is configured as a reference that is available for validation and implementation by health and nursing professionals and managers in the management of potential organ donors after brain death assistance and subsequent transplantation demands.

- Abstract
This study was performed in six Long-Term Care Institutions for the Elderly (LTCIEs) that helped low-income senior citizens in three regions of the country. Its aim is to examine how LTCIEs' internal organizational system maintained structural coupling with surrounding systems. The data were collected through interviews and observation. The analysis was based on concepts of Luhmann's Social Systems Theory. As a result, the rules of belonging did not encourage aid proposals that stimulated independent life and the individuality of residents. The structural couplings with the external environment generated negative resonance within LTCIEs, such as the lack of links to programmatic actions of public primary health care, inability to maintain a multiprofessional staff, inability to fully adapt the infrastructure, and inability to bring reçatives closer to the institution's daily routine. As a positive aspect, the staff was empowered by the presence of students and their professors.

- Abstract
The strategy presented in this paper, called Analytics of ambiguity, is connected to the necessity of understanding findings in researches based on Merleau-Ponty's phenomenology. It was developed through a study of descriptions of life experiences from ten family members, members of a Mutual Help Group for caregivers of Alzheimer's patients, conducted at a university in Florianopolis, Santa Catarina, Brazil. Such descriptions were shown through interviews based on intercorporeal experience, during the writing of a Doctoral Dissertation in Nursing. The application of the Analytics of ambiguity to this study is consistent with other similar studies and opens up possibilities for the understanding of findings in phenomenological researches, specifically those based on the experiential ontology of Merleau-Ponty, for it enables us to recognize consciousness as something non-perceptible and perception as an always ambiguous process.

- Abstract
This study analyzed the relationship between physical fitness and functional capacity in 78 residents of long-stay institutions for low-income elderly located in five regions of Brazil. The majority of the sample consisted of women, and mean age was 77.4 years (SD = 7.9). Physical fitness was assessed with the AAHPERD test, adjusted for institutionalized elderly. The Katz scale was used for functional capacity. The five components of physical fitness rated fair for flexibility, coordination, agility, and aerobic endurance and good for strength. The mean general physical fitness (GPF) index was fair. According to the findings, the greater the degree of dependency in institutionalized elderly, the lesser their strength and GPF level; meanwhile, better coordination and agility are associated with greater independence for performing activities of daily living. The results can contribute to appropriate physical exercise programs for maintenance and/or recovery of functionality.

- Abstract
This study aimed to systematize a basic model of nursing care based on the taxonomy from the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association (NANDA), tested in elderly patients with dementia affection, living in a Long-Stay Institution (ILPIs) in the countryside of Bahia, Brazil. Nine elder residents were selected at the Institution by the application of the Mini Test on Mental State in two stages, with an interval of six months, which confirmed dementia affection. Data were collected through multidimensional assessment tools for the elder provided by the Ministry of Health. In order to elaborate a caring plan, in accordance with the steps of the nursing process, nursing diagnoses were grouped into four categories: motor behavior cognition and memory, communication and other health physical problems. The caring plans have been implemented and evaluated. Testing and systematization of the basic model from nursing care based on NANDA has been possible among institutionalized demented elder inferring its applicability to other ILPIs.

- Abstract
Objective: To assess the reliability of classification of nutritional status (NS) obtained through the body mass index (BMI) and three different methods of body composition (BC) in individuals type 1 diabetics (T1D) and non-diabetic subjects., Methods: 84 patients with T1D and 37 controls were evaluated. Anthropometric data was collected to calculate BMI and assessment of BC was performed through the methods of skinfold thickness (SF), bipolar (BI) and tetrapolar (TT) bioelectrical impedance. The agreement between the scores of each method was determined by Kappa (K) coefficient., Results: Considering all the patients, only 48 (57.1%) presented classification of BMI that agreed with the SF method, 58 (69%) with the BI and 45 (53.5%) with the TT. The K results for individuals with T1D was DC = 0.261, BI = 0.320 and TT = 0.174. The controls had higher values (DC = 0.605, BI = 0.360 and TT = 0.400). However, all values were considered low., Conclusions: The method of BMI showed little sensitivity to BC changes in patients with T1D. Appropriated methods for the assessment of BC should be used to classify the NS of this population.

- Abstract
It is an essay about Boff's contribution for care in the macro dimension, from its ecological point of view and micro in the care among the human beings. The author bases the concept of care starting from theological, philosophical, social, and mystical questions, visualizing the human relations that move through the ecological dimension: integral, social and environmental. It aims to know/understand the care broached by the author for the ontological and epistemological fundamentation of care in nursing. The result of this one, has been a vigilant arouse in the sense to visualize and to implement strategies of adaptation to the proposal of a new paradigm that involves a rescue of human being essence with a manner-of-being-with-the-world that moves through the care.
