- Abstract
Organic matter transport from watershed soil into an aquatic ecosystem plays a key role in the fate of contaminants and lake eutrophication. Special emphasis is needed to understand whether sensitive river indicators can reflect watershed non-point source organic carbon (OC) pollution, in which the accurate assessment of non-point source (NPS) pollution is crucial. This study selected a sub-basin within the Taihu basin, China, as the study site, a typical rural-urban fringe region undergoing rapid urbanization where soil organic carbon (SOC) loss would likely take place due to the integration of agriculture NPS and impervious surface NPS. The seasonal tendency of NPS soil organic carbon (SOC) loads were evaluated by using the integration of SEDD and PLOAD models, which consider the sediment adsorption fraction loads (Sed-OC) and runoff dissolved fraction loads (Dis-OC) together. And then the sensitive water indicators for OC loads were determined by measurements of inflowing river properties and stepwise regression analysis. The results showed that active dissolved carbon fraction loads were the dominant contributors to the total organic carbon loads (Tot-OC) and that Sed-OC loads have more spatial variation. With respect to sensitive river properties, the lignin owned the greatest correlation degree with different OC fraction loads, in which the correlation coefficient between particulate lignin and Sed-OC loads reached 0.782, which is the greatest among the different indicators. In addition, the colored dissolved organic matter (CDOM) was also correlated with Dis-OC loads. However, the particulate organic carbon (POC) was not well related to OC loads. The findings of this study are useful for better understanding the nutrient migration from watershed soil into aquatic ecosystem controlled by watershed NPS pollution. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
While provision of safe drinking water is considered a basic human right, there are major challenges in the developing world for its provision. The ability to deliver safe water using a cost-appropriate technology is a major aspect of the problem. One of the technologies that has the potential to contribute significantly is the ceramic water filter (CWF); however, as shown herein, there are significant differences between performance of CWFs in the laboratory and in field applications. The CWFs employed in this study (field and laboratory) have a pore fraction of 21.0 - 22.4% and an average maximum pore diameter of 5.7 - 15.2 μm. Field studies were completed in Longhai City, China, a rural community in southeastern China with red earth, high precipitation and intensive human/domestic activities. During field trials, CWFs demonstrated an average removal efficiency of 94.7%, with values ranging from 75 - 100%, whereas in laboratory studies, average removal efficiency was determined to be 99.5%, with values ranging from 97.7 - 99.9%. Differences between the lab and field removal efficiencies are attributed to contamination of the filter element and receptacle by villagers during field utilization and cleaning. Effective technology transfer to the end-user is required to achieve the bacterial removal efficiency attainable by the technology itself. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Chickens are considered to be potential reservoirs of Newcastle disease virus (NDV). In this study, six Newcastle disease virus strains were isolated and characterized in Tibetan chickens. The HN gene was sequenced, and phylogenetic relationship to reference strains was studied. The phylogenetic analysis demonstrated that these six isolated strains were closely related to NDV isolates of the reference strains GQ245823, KT002186, KU527561, KJ563939, AY225110, EU305607, KM056357, Y18898, GQ245832, AF077761 and lasota strain. Among them, EU305607, KJ563939 and KM056357 were isolated from India, while lasota strain came from attenuated vaccine widely used in China. Then, mean death time (MDT) and intracerebral pathogenicity index (ICPI) were used to estimate the pathogenicity of the isolates. Pathogenicity experiment showed HNH1 and HN17 to be virulent. Our results indicated that genetically diverse viruses circulate in Tibetan chickens, and based upon the phlogeographic analysis, we estimated the origin of ancestral viruses of the isolates and its sister strains located in India and China (lasota strain). It indicates the importance of continuous surveillance to enhance current understanding of the genetic evolution of the NDV strains. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Background and objectives Dexmedetomidine (DEX) has demonstrated the preconditioning effect and shown protective effects against organize injury. In this study, using A549 (human alveolar epithelial cell) cell lines, we investigated whether DEX preconditioning protected against acute lung injury (ALI) in vitro. Methods A549 were randomly divided into four groups ( n = 5): control group, DEX group, lipopolysaccharides (LPS) group, and D‐LPS (DEX + LPS) group. Phosphate buffer saline (PBS) or DEX were administered. After 2 h preconditioning, the medium was refreshed and the cells were challenged with LPS for 24 h on the LPS and D‐LPS group. Then the malondialdehyde (MDA), superoxide dismutase (SOD), Bcl‐2, Bax, caspase‐3 and the cytochrome c in the A549 were tested. The apoptosis was also evaluated in the cells. Results Compare with LPS group, DEX preconditioning reduced the apoptosis (26.43% ± 1.05% vs. 33.58% ± 1.16%, p < 0.05) in the A549, which is correlated with decreased MDA (12.84 ± 1.05 vs. 19.16 ± 1.89 nmol.mg −1 protein, p < 0.05) and increased SOD activity (30.28 ± 2.38 vs. 20.86 ± 2.19 U.mg −1 protein, p < 0.05). DEX preconditioning also increased the Bcl‐2 level (0.53 ± 0.03 vs. 0.32 ± 0.04, p < 0.05) and decreased the level of Bax (0.49 ± 0.04 vs. 0.65 ± 0.04, p < 0.05), caspase‐3 (0.54 ± 0.04 vs. 0.76 ± 0.04, p < 0.05) and cytochrome c. Conclusion DEX preconditioning has a protective effect against ALI in vitro. The potential mechanisms involved are the inhibition of cell death and improvement of antioxidation. This article explores determinants of effective communication for crisis responses across functional sub-systems at diverse public organisation levels. That is done by analysing WHO and IPCC statements on COVID-19 and climate change, and governmental responses, drawing on Denmark as a pilot case. A functional sub-system is constituted by binary codes, embodying the sub-system’s key logic. Sub-systems respond to information triggering their logics. The analysis shows that with an emphasis on effective governance and the delivery of health care, the WHO was effective in generating governmental action on COVID-19. By contrast, the IPCC’s extensive deployment of the true/false logic of science is less effective for activating governmental response. Addressing public governance and relevance of Luhmann’s systems theory, our findings suggest that decision-makers can be prompted into action through deployment of arguments that connect to governments’ logic. This finding holds potential for improving communication between scientific and governance agencies for crisis responses.

Abstract Background The treatment for atopic dermatitis (AD) has been the focus of clinical research, and behavioral intervention is considered an indispensable treatment method. To our knowledge, no relevant meta-analysis has evaluated the effects of behavioral interventions on atopic dermatitis. Objectives To evaluate the effects of behavioral interventions on atopic dermatitis. Methods The authors searched PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane CENTRAL to retrieve relevant RCTs (up to Feb 2022). The search strategy involved a combination of related keywords. The Cochrane Q and I2 statistics were used to assess heterogeneity. Results Six RCTs involving seven reports with 246 patients were included. The results suggested that behavioral interventions could relieve eczema severity (correlation coefficient [r = −0.39]; p < 0.001) and scratching severity significantly (r = −0.19; p = 0.017), while not affect itching intensity (r = −0.02; p = 0.840). A sensitivity analysis confirmed the robustness of the results. Study limitations An important limitation of this study was the insufficient number of RCTs and the limited sample size. In addition, the study lacked a control group receiving a type of intervention other than the experimental protocol. Another limitation was the short duration of follow-up. Conclusions This study suggests that behavioral interventions could be effective in treating atopic dermatitis by reducing eczema and scratching severity. Additionally, habit-reversal behavioral therapy may be more effective for treating atopic dermatitis.

“Ritual” is one of the core concepts in Confucian culture. Duke Zhou developed the notion of “ritual” as a set of behavioral norms to maintain the hierarchical system of the ancestral lineage and as regulations for state governance and ceremonial practices. Pre-Qin Confucianism inherited and innovated the Zhou rituals, forming the influential Confucian ritual system deeply embedded in traditional Chinese society. The ritual system embodies elements of absolute monarchy, ancestral reverence and filial piety, reflecting China’s traditional cultural factors. It holds significant social functions, serving as a powerful tool for maintaining social order, promoting stability and ensuring the well-being of future generations. This article starts with the three main aspects of the relationship between benevolence and ritual, governance through virtue, and ritual and law. It explains the spirit of benevolence, people-friendly political ethics and the inherent morality of the law contained in Confucian etiquette ethics, and further analyzes the modern value of Confucian etiquette culture and spirit to the contemporary Chinese society’s moral construction and legal one.

BiOCl/KBiO3 p-n heterostructures with hierarchical mesoporous architectures were successfully synthesized via a facile in situ method. The X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) results indicate the formation of heterojunctions between BiOCl and KBiO3. The photocatalytic performance of the as-prepared samples was investigated by the degradation of dye Rhodamine B (RhB) under visible light irradiation. BiOCl/KBiO3 composite has never been used to photodegrade the RhB which is a common dye and very difficult to degrade. The results demonstrated that KBiO3 combined with proper amount of BiOCl nanosheets exhibited high efficiency in the photocatalytic process, and BiOCl/KBiO3 with the molar ratio of 70/30 demonstrated the highest photocatalytic activity due to its large surface area, excellent charge separation characteristics and the suppressed recombination of electron-hole pairs. The results of active species detection reveal that the superoxide radical anions (O2-), hydroxyl free radicals (·OH), photogenerated holes (h+) and photogenerated electrons (e-) reactive species work together for the photocatalytic degradation of RhB. A possible and new mechanism of photocatalysis that differs from other teams was also explored and proposed. The present study will benefit the development of the new p-n heterojunction photocatalysts and would be of great importance to meet ever-increasing environmental demands in the future.

ABSTRACT: This study adopted a more macroscopic perspective to focus on the issue of rural poverty in China. By selecting indicators reflecting various levels of poverty recurrence, considering risk factors across multiple dimensions, and employing advanced methods, we constructed a novel China Rural Poverty Recurrence Risk Index. We utilized a Markov switching model to delve into the mechanisms of poverty recurrence. Building upon this foundation, we developed an advanced poverty recurrence risk early warning system using a convolutional neural network-long short-term memory (CNN-LSTM) model. The system is optimized through mechanism-based predictions to better capture the dynamic changes in poverty recurrence. Empirical results demonstrated that the integrated dynamic monitoring and early warning system have significantly effective outcomes in addressing the recurrence of rural poverty.

Abstract Background Dermatomyositis (DM) is an infrequent disease subgroup of idiopathic inflammatory myopathies characterized by distinct skin lesions. However, high heterogeneity makes clinical diagnosis and treatment of DM very challenging. Objectives Unsupervised classification in DM patients and analysis of key factors related to clinical outcomes. Methods This retrospective study was conducted between 2017 and 2022 at the Department of Rheumatology, Xiangya Hospital, Central South University. 162 DM patients were enrolled for unsupervised hierarchical cluster analysis. In addition, we divided the clinical outcomes of DM patients into four subgroups: withdrawal, stabilization, aggravation, and death, and compared the clinical profiles amongst the subgroups. Results Out of 162 DM patients, three clusters were defined. Cluster 1 (n = 40) was mainly grouped by patients with prominent muscular involvement and mild Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD). Cluster 2 (n = 72) grouped patients with skin rash, anti-Melanoma Differentiation Associated protein 5 positive (anti-MDA5+), and Rapid Progressive Interstitial Lung Disease (RP-ILD). Cluster 3 (n = 50) grouped patients with the mildest symptoms. The proportion of death increased across the three clusters (cluster 3 < cluster 1 < cluster 2). Study limitations The number of cases was limited for the subsequent construction and validation of predictive models. We did not review all skin symptoms or pathological changes in detail. Conclusions We reclassified DM into three clusters with different risks for poor outcome based on diverse clinical profiles. Clinical serological testing and cluster analysis are necessary to help clinicians evaluate patients during follow-up and conduct phenotype-based personalized care in DM.

Abstract Background Glomus Tumor (GT) are benign neoplasms that originate from mesenchymal cells. It presents as tenderness and cold allodynia in the digits, especially in the subungual region. There are a few studies that investigated the mechanism of pain. Objectives To analyze the clinical-pathologic characteristics of GT and to identify the expression of IL-1β, IL-6, and CGRP in it, further, to explore the possible mechanism of pain. Methods The clinical and pathological data of 60 GT patients were retrospectively analyzed. Tissue microarrays and immunohistochemistry were used to measure the expression of IL-1β, IL-6 and CGRP. Results GT is more common in females and the ratio of male to was near to 1:2, mostly in middle-aged people. It often occurs in fingertips, especially the thumbs. Patients often present with spontaneous pain, tenderness, and cold hypersensitivity. Both the two pain mediators IL-1β and IL-6 were highly expressed in GT cells of patients with and without cold hypersensitivity. While CGRP was not expressed in GT. Study limitations Low sample size and further research is needed to explore the specific mechanism. Conclusions IL-1β and IL-6 were highly expressed in GT cells, suggesting that IL-1β and IL-6 have certain nociceptive roles in GT. In the 4 patients with cold intolerance, the intensity of IL-1β and IL-6 staining was also strong, suggesting that they may not play a role in the cold hypersensitivity. However, since there are only 4 patients with cold intolerance, it’s necessary to conduct further in-depth research using a larger sample size. The specific role of CGRP in GT has not been found yet.

ABSTRACT There are significant differences in the quantities of Camellia oleifera fruits growing within and outside the canopy distribution, meaning that a single mode of picking has drawbacks. To improve the harvesting efficiency for the inner and outer layers, this article proposes a synergistic mode of harvesting based on a vibration comb brush, and presents a design for a harvesting device based on this principle. The overall structure and working principle of the proposed device are explained, and the operational processes of the vibration and comb parts of the device are analyzed. ADAMS software is used to construct a rigid-flexible coupling model of the device and the fruiting branch, and simulation results are presented to show that the fruit drop and flower loss rates for Camellia oleifera are related to the vibration frequency, the amplitude, and the spacing between the teeth and comb plates. Finally, a three factor and three level field orthogonal experiment was conducted, and the results showed that under the conditions of vibration frequency 5.85Hz, amplitude 60.43mm, and comb spacing 45mm, the flower loss rate was the lowest and it had good picking performance. Under these conditions, the fruit drop rate is 87.32% and the flower loss rate is 8.06%, values that meet the requirements for mechanized picking of Camellia oleifera fruits.

COVID-19 stay-at-home orders have had far-reaching negative consequences on mental health and quality of life (QOL). This is especially true for vulnerable populations, such as those who are unhoused, as they are more likely than the general population to have been struggling with a mental illness and poor QOL well before the pandemic. This exploratory cross-sectional study explored differences in PTSD symptom severity and overall QOL among a cohort of adults who were seeking housing support services pre-COVID-19 (n = 226 compared to a cohort of adults who were seeking housing support services during COVID-19 (n =205). All data were collected upon enrollment into a permanent supportive housing program. Participants seeking housing support services during COVID-19 compared to pre-COVID-19 were significantly more likely to report higher PTSD symptoms (t=3.14, p=0.001) and poorer QOL (=9.81, p=0.001), however differences were no longer observed at the five percent significance level once several covariates were controlled for in the analysis. Despite the lack of statistical significance at the multivariate level (which is likely a result of challenges with the data and the level of statistical significance selected and not a reflection of true differences between the cohorts), the clinical significance of the findings has implications for planning behavioral health services for unhoused individuals seeking housing support services, especially as we exit the pandemic.

In order to develop effective digital marketing strategies, this study explores how demographic factors may affect consumers’ online shopping and following social media influencers behaviors. Market segmentation theory and consumer demographics theory provide the theoretical foundation for this study. By analyzing survey data collected from 6,034 U.S. adults with decision tree analysis, there are a number of significant findings. First, educational level, income, and age category are the important predictors for consumers’ buying things online using a desktop or laptop computer behavior. Second, age category, geographic location (urban, suburban, rural) are the predictors for consumers’ buying things online using a smartphone behavior. Third, educational level, age, and geographic location are the predictors for consumers’ preferring online shopping over in-store shopping behavior. Fourth, age category and race-ethnicity are the predictors for following social media influencers behavior. Fifth, gender and age category are the predictors for purchasing something after seeing an influencer’s posts behavior. Finally, age category and gender are the predictors for purchase decisions getting impacted by influencers. The results provide valuable insights about consumer behaviors online, market segmentation, and influencer marketing strategies.

Marx’s thoughts on world history (WH) is an essential element of historical materialism, which focuses on the time’s characteristics, unifies theory and practice, and grasps correctly of the situation of human existence and historical development. The deepening of globalization has made the world development environment more complex and led to the intensification of social contradictions. In order to deeply grasp the law of world-historical development and better cope with the problems and challenges brought by globalization, this paper effectively studied the methodology of Marx’s world history thoughts (WHT). After conducting an in-depth analysis of the fundamental content, main issues and ideological features of WHT, this paper explored the methodological principles and significance. It gave full consideration to the practical revelation of the methodology of Marx’s WHT from the perspectives of foreign development and cooperation, scientific and technological level, and the choice of one’s development path. In the natural development process of responding to globalization, firmly following its development path has an important role and value in strengthening foreign development and cooperation, advancing technological capabilities and adopting a dialectical approach towards the development of globalization.

ABSTRACT During high-speed seeding operations, collisions between seeds and seed guide tubes are very significant, resulting in poor seed spacing uniformity. To solve this problem, a high-speed seed guide device with conical spiral airflow was designed, which can use high-speed positive pressure airflow to move seeds smoothly. To improve the uniformity of the airflow field in the device, a single-factor test was carried out to determine the reasonable range of each factor. Then, the four-factor and five-level central composite test was carried out. The four main factors were screw pitch, cone angle, width of gap, and angle of air-tube, and the evaluation index was the mean variance of airflow velocity. The test results showed that the optimal parameters of the high-speed seed guide device with conical spiral airflow were a screw pitch of 24.98 mm, cone angle of 7.47/55, width of gap of 5.31 mm, and angle of air-tube of 25.09º. The verification test showed that the relative error between the verification test value and the predicted value was less than 5%, indicating that the model had high reliability. This research can provide references for the research of high-speed seed guide technology and the innovative design of seed guide devices.

ABSTRACT: This study investigated the differences in gene expression profiles of diploid and autotetraploid in cowpea, and provided theoretical basis for screening key genes of differential expression and ploidy breeding. The phenotypes and contents of chlorophyll, soluble sugar and soluble protein of diploid and autotetraploid of cowpea were compared and transcriptome sequencing was performed. The autotetraploid leaves of cowpea were thicker and darker green than diploid leaves, and the contents of chlorophyll, soluble sugar and soluble protein in leaves were higher. A total of 2678 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were analyzed in the diploid and autotetraploid of cowpea. Among them, there were 421 genes with higher expression of tetraploid than diploid, and 2257 genes with lower expression of tetraploid than diploid. All 2678 DEGs were annotated into the Gene Ontology (GO) functional library. The DEGs were mainly concentrated in metabolism and cell composition. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) Pathway analysis showed that cowpea diploid and autotetraploid have significant differences in flavonoid biosynthesis, degradation of other glycan, phenylpropane biosynthesis, starch sucrose metabolism, keratin, amber and wax biosynthesis, circadian rhythm and plant pathways.

vestígio, linguisticidade, escrita. ,Philosophy (General) ,B1-5802 - Abstract

Abstract Background Hypertrophic scar (HS), a fibroproliferative disorder caused by aberrant wound healing following skin injuries such as burns, lacerations and surgery, is characterized by invasive proliferation of fibroblasts and excessive extracellular matrix (ECM) accumulation. The dysregulation of autophagy is the pathological basis of HS formation. Previously, angiopoietin-2 (ANGPT2) was found to be overexpressed in HS fibroblasts (HSFs) compared with normal skin fibroblasts. However, whether ANGPT2 participates in the process of HS formation and the potential molecular mechanisms are not clear. Objective This study is intended to figure out the role of ANGPT2 and ANGPT2-mediated autophagy during the development of HS. Methods RT-qPCR was used to detect ANGPT2 expression in HS tissues and HSFs. HSFs were transfected with sh-ANGPT2 to knock down ANGPT2 expression and then treated with MHT1485, the mTOR agonist. The effects of sh-ANGPT2 or MHT1485 on the proliferation, migration, autophagy and ECM accumulation of HSFs were evaluated by CCK-8 assay, Transwell assay and western blotting. The expression of PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway-related molecules (p-PI3K, p-Akt and p-mTOR) was assessed by western blotting. Results ANGPT2 expression was markedly upregulated in HS tissues and HSFs. ANGPT2 knockdown decreased the expression of p-PI3K, p-Akt and p-mTOR. ANGPT2 knockdown activated autophagy and inhibited the proliferation, migration, and ECM accumulation of HSFs. Additionally, the treatment of MHT1485, the mTOR agonist, on ANGPT2-downregulated HSFs, partially reversed the influence of ANGPT2 knockdown on HSFs. Study limitations The study lacks the establishment of more stable in vivo animal models of HS for investigating the effects of ANGPT2 on HS formation in experimental animals. Conclusions ANGPT2 downregulation represses growth, migration, and ECM accumulation of HSFs via autophagy activation by suppressing the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway. Our study provides a novel potential therapeutic target for HS.

Abstract Objectives Self-guided, asynchronous, online interventions may provide college students access to evidence-based care, while mitigating barriers like limited hours of service. Thus, we examined the preliminary effectiveness of a 45-minute, self-guided, asynchronous, online, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)-informed stress and anxiety management workshop. College undergraduates (n = 131) were randomized to either workshop (n = 65) or waitlist control (n = 66) conditions. Methods Participants in the workshop condition completed baseline measures of depression, stress, and anxiety, before completing the workshop. Participants in the waitlist control condition only completed the baseline measures. All participants were reassessed at 1-week follow-up. Results Controlling for baseline measures, students in the workshop condition experienced significantly less stress and greater self-efficacy to regulate stress and anxiety at follow-up, compared to waitlist controls. Conclusion A 45-minute, self-guided, asynchronous, online DBT skills-informed stress and anxiety management workshop may reduce stress and improve self-efficacy to regulate stress and anxiety.

The aim of this study was to prepare nanoparticles of grape seed procyanidin B2-3′-O-gallate by chitosan-sodium alginate. The encapsulation system was characterized by transmission electron microscope (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and its biological activity was analyzed by cell-level antioxidant capacity. The results showed that the particle size of nano-carrier was 160~201nm, the B2-3′-O-gallate was well embedded, and the encapsulation efficiency of B2-3′-O-gallate was 93.5%. In vitro digestion experiments suggested that the release of B2-3′-O-gallate was significantly controlled by chitosan-sodium alginate nano-system through anomalous diffusion mechanism, and at about 72-78% of B2-3′-O-gallate was retained under gastrointestinal (GI) condition. Besides, the cytotoxicity results expressed that B2-3′-O-gallate chitosan nanoparticles had obvious protective effect on human HepG2 cells induced by hydrogen peroxide. This work provides a promising way to control the delivery and enhances the biological activity of galloylated procyanidins – one of the most important group of bioactive polyphenols of the grape pomace.

ABSTRACT: Rhododendron fortune belongs to a scented Rhododendron species native to China, which produces fragrant flowers of great ornamental and environmental values for landscaping or indoor beautification. However, the scents in Rhododendron fortuneihave not yet been investigated, let alone the mechanism of the formation of these fragrance in the flowers. In this study, we measured the scents in terms of its volatile components and contents (VOC) in Rhododendron fortuneiat four different flowering stages and in different tissues of the plant by headspace solid-phase micro-extraction combined (HS-SPME) with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Then the characteristic aromatic values, which reflects the degree of scent perception by human, of each VOC in the plant was calculated according to its respective aromatic thresholds. Results showed that three main VOCs measured from highest to lowest are methyl benzoates, terpenes and fatty acid derivatives. Their content increased after the flower bud opening and reached the highest at half to full blossom. In a flower most VOC contents were measured in petals and only trace amount in other tissues such as stamen, pistil. A small amount of VOCs was determined in leaves as well. All aromatic values were almost corresponded to the contents of three main VOCs, indicating that the flower fragrance arises truly from these VOC components. S-adenosyl-L-methionine: benzoic acid carboxyl methyl transferase (BAMT) catalyzes the final step to form methyl benzoates. To understand the mechanism of the formation of this main type fragrance and its regulation, we firstly isolate a gene of RfBAMT from petal of Rhododendron fortuneiby using homologous cloning and RACE technology. The full length of its cDNA was 1383 bp,with an open reading frame of 1104 bp, encoding a total of 368 amino acids. The phylogenetic tree analysis showed that RfBAMT was the closest to the BSMT of Camellia japonica, belonging to methyltransferases family. Then we measured the expression level of RfBAMT again at four flower developmental stages and in different flower tissues and leaves. The results showed that the expression level of this gene was highly positively correlated with the emitted content of methyl benzoates in the flowering, implying that RfBAMT plays a pivotal role in the formation and regulation of methyl benzoates in Rhododendron fortune.Thisresearchshowed that the RfBAMT was cloned and identified in our study and its expression level was highly positively correlated with the emitted content of methyl benzoates in the flowers and leaves, which indicated this gene may play an important role on regulation of methyl benzoate synthesis in Rhododendron fortunei.

ABSTRACT: As an essential way to enhance farmers’ self-development ability, off-farm employment plays an indispensable role in farmers’ multidimensional poverty reduction in many countries. Employing a survey of 1926 farmers in five provinces of the Yellow River Basin in China, this paper examined the multi-dimensional poverty reduction effect of off-farm employment and the heterogeneous influence of different dimensions of off-farm employment (modes, levels, distances and frequency). The results showed that (1) although absolute poverty in the income dimension was largely eliminated in the Yellow River Basin, the poverty in social resources, transportation facilities, employment security were the key bottlenecks restricting farmers’ self-development. (2) The province with the best multidimensional poverty reduction effect for non-farm employment was Shaanxi, with the largest contribution to employment security. (3) Improving off-farm employment level, distance and time can significantly alleviate the multi-dimensional poverty of farmers. Therefore, to lessen the multi-dimensional poverty of farmers in the Yellow River Basin, it is necessary to focus on the governance of multi-dimensional key poverty-stricken areas, such as the middle and upper courses of the Yellow River, adopting multidimensional poverty alleviation strategy of off-farm employment according to local conditions, working on the farmers’ deficiencies in social resources, mobility, employment security, and deepening the effect of off-farm employment on benefiting farmers and helping the poor.

In order to develop effective communication strategies during crises, this study explores how psychological factors (e.g., perceived risk) and demographic variables affect consumers’ choice of consumption channels during the business reopening period amid the COVID-19 pandemic by analyzing survey data collected from 1,033 U.S. adults with predictive analytics. There are a number of important findings. First, the results of cluster analysis suggested that the U.S. consumers can be categorized into two clusters, high perceived risk and high concern group, and low perceived risk and low concern group. Cluster membership is associated with gender, ethnicity, and household income. Second, the results of decision tree analysis showed that perceived risk for food delivery and take out is the most important factor that predicts consumers’ ordering food delivery and takeout behaviors. Third, the results of decision tree analysis suggested that perceived risk for instore consumption activities is the most important predictor for predicting consumers’ in-store consumption activities, such as visiting a non-grocery retail store and going out to eat. The results of this study support consumer demographic theory and consumer perceived risk theory. Practical suggestions about how to minimize perceived risks with effective crisis communication strategies are provided.

ABSTRACT To characterize the N6-methyladenosine (m6A)-related gene expression profiles in various tissues of Meishan pigs at different stages, m6A modification-related genes (METTL3, METTL14, METTL16, WTAP, RBM15, and FTO) were detected from newborn to physical maturity of Meishan pigs at eight important developmental stages (1, 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 134, and 158 days old). The expression of m6A-related genes was tissue-specific. Furthermore, the level of METTL3 messenger RNA (mRNA) was higher on day 35 than in other stages in most tissues, and the expression of METTL14 increased after day 35, and FTO exhibited a peak on day 14 in muscle, intestine, lymph nodes, thymus, and kidney. This study provided a reference for an in-depth study of the expression patterns of m6A modification-related genes in Meishan pigs.

Expanding the emergent literature on homelessness and the COVID-19 pandemic, this qualitative study presents a portrait of the homelessness sector in two Nova Scotian, Canadian communities: Halifax Regional Municipality and Cape Breton Regional Municipality. This research provides an understanding of the health and wellness of populations experiencing homelessness during the first waves of the COVID-19 pandemic, the processes involved in supporting populations experiencing homelessness during the pandemic, and determining what has worked, what has not, and required changes. The data will inform relevant emergency crises and disaster relief responses for those experiencing homelessness and those who are marginalized, vulnerable, and living on the fringes of society. What follows are the core themes, and lessons learned, along with recommendations that capture the narratives from a group of individuals experiencing homelessness throughout the pandemic and those tasked with developing, supporting, innovating, and funding the disaster responses in two Nova Scotian communities.
