Many health care personnel have expressed an interest in supporting the Occupy Wall Street (OWS) movement but are unsure how they can best participate. The goal of this guide is to synthesize some of the historical experience of physicians working with social movements as well as our own experience with working with Occupy Wall Street in order to provide practical guidance to health care professionals. Anyone can participate in OWS activities as a citizen.

Resumo Objetivo Investigar a situação atual e analisar os fatores influenciadores do conhecimento, atitude e prática de emergência pré-hospitalar entre cuidadores de idosos. Métodos Estudo transversal com amostragem por conveniência, conduzido entre dezembro de 2021 e junho de 2022, e seleção de 133 cuidadores de idosos em instituições de longa permanência na província de Guangdong, China, como participantes. Todos receberam um questionário de informações gerais e um questionário de conhecimento, atitude e prática de emergência pré-hospitalar. Na análise dos dados foi utilizada estatística descritiva e inferencial. Resultados As pontuações nas dimensões conhecimento, atitude e prática foram 24,65 ± 4,49, 24,52 ± 4,34 e 24,05 ± 4,67, respectivamente. A análise de regressão mostrou que a idade, o nível de habilidade profissional e a experiência em educação em saúde dos cuidadores foram os principais fatores que influenciaram seu conhecimento de emergência pré-hospitalar. A presença/ausência dos cuidadores na participação direta na emergência pré-hospitalar foi o principal fator de influência na atitude, enquanto o nível educacional e a situação profissional foram os fatores que influenciaram principalmente a prática na emergência pré-hospitalar. Conclusão O atual nível de conhecimento, atitude e prática em emergência pré-hospitalar dos cuidadores de idosos é de baixo a médio. Para os cuidadores chineses, os principais fatores que afetam a implementação da emergência pré-hospitalar são a idade avançada, os baixos níveis de escolaridade, o emprego temporário e as deficiências do sistema de segurança ocupacional.

ABSTRACT: The study aimed to investigate the distribution and expression of nesfatin-1 in Bactrian camels and its impact on adipocyte glucose metabolism. Polyclonal antibodies against a single antigenic epitope of NUCB2/nesfatin-1 protein were prepared. Nesfatin-1 expression was detected in various adipose tissues, including the hypothalamus, humps, stomach, duodenum, jejunum, ileum, cecum, colon, rectum, pancreas, liver, and abdomen, using Western blot and qRT-PCR. Glucose uptake levels, pyruvic acid content, and hexokinase and phosphofructokinase activities were measured in cultured 3T3-L1 preadipocytes treated with nesfatin-1 in a high glucose state using a non-radiofluorimetric assay. The results showed that nesfatin-1 was found in all Bactrian camel tissues, with higher adipose tissue and pancreas expression. ABSTRACT To quickly and accurately assess tea plant growth, this study aims to find a new way to predict the chlorophyll content in tea plant canopies using machine learning. Using remotely piloted aircraft equipped with multispectral cameras, images of tea plantation areas are captured and reflectance from four spectral bands is extracted, leading to the calculation of vegetation indices. Simultaneously, chlorophyll relative content in the tea plant canopies was collected on the ground using a detector. Four models, namely Random Forest (RF), Backpropagation neural network (BPNN), Radial basis function network (RBFN), and General Regression Neural Network (GRNN), were constructed to predict the chlorophyll relative content in tea plant canopies. Subsequently, important remote sensing variables were identified through RF filtering, followed by a comparison of the predictive performance of machine learning models under different input conditions. Lastly, by integrating the Sparrow Search Algorithm (SSA) to optimize the smoothing factor in the GRNN, the study explores the impact of optimization algorithms on the predictive performance of the GRNN model. Experiments indicate that within the established machine learning models, the GRNN demonstrates the highest predictive accuracy. By ranking the importance of remote sensing variables through RF, 18 significant remote sensing variables were selected, which enhanced the predictive accuracy of the machine learning models. The optimization of the GRNN smoothing factor through the SSA algorithm can significantly enhance the predictive accuracy of the GRNN model. Based on a series of experiments, the established RFSSA-GRNN prediction model demonstrates good predictive performance, with an reaching 0.84.

La declaración SPIRIT 2013 tiene como objetivo mejorar la exhaustividad de los informes de los protocolos de los ensayos clínicos proporcionando recomendaciones basadas en la evidencia para el conjunto mínimo de elementos que deben abordarse. Esta guía ha sido fundamental para promover la evaluación transparente de nuevas intervenciones. Más recientemente, se ha reconocido cada vez más que las intervenciones con inteligencia artificial (IA) deben someterse a una evaluación rigurosa y prospectiva para demostrar su impacto en los resultados médicos. La extensión SPIRIT-AI (Standard Protocol Items: Recommendations for Interventional Trials-Artificial Intelligence, por sus siglas en inglés) es una nueva directriz para el reporte de los protocolos de ensayos clínicos que evalúan intervenciones con un componente de IA. Esta directriz se desarrolló en paralelo con su declaración complementaria para los informes de ensayos clínicos: CONSORT-AI (Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials-Artificial Intelligence). Ambas directrices se desarrollaron a través de un proceso de consenso por etapas que incluía la revisión de la literatura y la consulta a expertos para generar 26 ítems candidatos, que fueron consultados por un grupo internacional de múltiples partes interesadas en una encuesta Delphi de dos etapas (103 partes interesadas), acordados en una reunión de consenso (31 partes interesadas) y refinados a través de una lista de verificación piloto (34 participantes). Silicon catalysts have very low catalytic activity in polyester (PET). However, titanium catalysts have high catalytic activity in polyester. The simultaneous use of titanium and silicon catalysts is effective in reducing the activity of a single titanium catalytic base agent. In addition, the glycol salts of titanium and silicon (Ti-EG and Si-EG) prepared in the present invention for use in the polyester catalytic process can avoid the introduction of other groups of impurities during the polyester catalytic process, which would lead to premature capping of the polyester in the process of polycondensation and chain building and make it difficult to increase the molecular weight, and thus affect the quality of the polyester. It has been verified that the ratio of Ti:Si is 1:1 (mol), and total amount added to the catalyst is 0.15% of the raw material amount, and the polycondensation temperature was 260-280 °C for 60 min. Compared with the single Ti-EG catalyst, the b* value of the synthesized PET was significantly reduced, and the molecular weight and other indexes did not change too much. In addition, at the end of catalysis, the catalyst was uniformly dispersed in the reaction system, which could be used as a matting agent for PET.

The aim of the present study is to create the guided inquiry laboratory works in studying the photoelectric properties of semiconductors in order to foster the students’ research experiences. In this context, the general structure of guided inquiry laboratory work is proposed and described. Each laboratory work includes preparation section, experiment section, interpretation section and consolidation section. Two created laboratory works include five experimental investigations in luminous and current-voltage characteristics of CdS photoresistors, selenium and silicon solar cells. The use of self-made equipment allows students to be introduced to the general principles of creating installation for these experimental investigations. The advantages and possibilities of self-made device for studying the photoelectric properties of semiconductors have been formulated. The design of the device allows changing the illumination of the photodetectors, measure dark currents, determining the photocurrent, calculate the sensitivity of photodetectors, confirm sublinear law for photoresistors, and study the current-voltage characteristics for different luminous flux. The cost of manufacturing the device is quite low. The questions to consolidate knowledge are offered for each laboratory work. Described general method of performing guided inquiry laboratory work could be used in the study of other topics of physics. Proposed level of inquiry-based learning is successfully used by the authors of the present article during professional training of Bachelor’s and Master’s students, future physics teachers.

The Pan American Health Organization/ World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) Anti-Infodemic Virtual Center for the Americas (AIVCA) is a project led by the Department of Evidence and Intelligence for Action in Health, PAHO and the Center for Health Informatics, PAHO/WHO Collaborating Center on Information Systems for Health, at the University of Illinois, with the participation of PAHO staff and consultants across the region. Its goal is to develop a set of tools—pairing AI with human judgment—to help ministries of health and related health institutions respond to infodemics. Public health officials will learn about emerging threats detected by the center and get recommendations on how to respond. The virtual center is structured with three parallel teams: detection, evidence, and response. The detection team will employ a mixture of advanced search queries, machine learning, and other AI techniques to sift through more than 800 million new public social media posts per day to identify emerging infodemic threats in both English and Spanish. The evidence team will use the EasySearch federated search engine backed by AI, PAHO’s knowledge management team, and the Librarian Reserve Corps to identify the most relevant authoritative sources. The response team will use a design approach to communicate recommended response strategies based on behavioural science, storytelling, and information design approaches.

The article describes experiences in teaching the sensitive topic of the industrial extermination of European Jews during World War II (the Holocaust) in the BA German programme at Universiti Putra Malaysia. The topic was covered in a history course and supported by the use of international feature films. Based on a summary of Malaysia-Israel relations, the relevance of the topic in the teaching of German as a foreign language is highlighted, and the teaching objectives, pedagogical approach and results of a film project are presented. The article aims to answer the questions of how Malaysian students perceived history films on the Holocaust and whether it was possible to achieve a more differentiated view of the Holocaust, at least among some students. As part of a comprehensive history film project on the Second World War, three history films dealing with the persecution and extermination of European Jews were screened and analysed in class. The film 'The Grey Zone' (USA, 2001) was selected for this article and students' responses and attitudes to challenging questions, provided as qualitative data, are discussed. Three historical literacies – Content Knowledge, Historical Empathy/Perspective Recognition and Narrative Analysis (Metzger 2007) – provided the theoretical framework for the history film project.

Abstract The surfactant-polymer-based (S/P) fracturing fluid combines the advantages of the surfactant-based and polymer-based fracturing fluids. In this study, the synergistic tackifying of cationic surfactants and carboxymethyl hydroxyethyl cellulose and the potential application in hydraulic fracturing fluid was investigated. Firstly, cetyltrimethylammonium chloride (CTAC) and salicylic acid (SA) with a weight ratio of 4:1 were optimized as the main agent of the small molecule surfactant gel, which was then mixed with carboxymethyl 2-hydroxyethyl ether cellulose (CMHEC) and salicylic acid (SA) to obtain the S/P gel. The proppant suspension performance, gel-breaking properties, salt-resistance and thermal stability of the optimized S/P were evaluated to confirm their potential application in the hydraulic fracturing fluid. These results showed that the performance of the S/P fracturing fluid system was much better than the performance of the surfactant fracturing fluid and also the performance of polymer fracturing fluid.

ABSTRACT: Rhododendron fortune belongs to a scented Rhododendron species native to China, which produces fragrant flowers of great ornamental and environmental values for landscaping or indoor beautification. However, the scents in Rhododendron fortuneihave not yet been investigated, let alone the mechanism of the formation of these fragrance in the flowers. In this study, we measured the scents in terms of its volatile components and contents (VOC) in Rhododendron fortuneiat four different flowering stages and in different tissues of the plant by headspace solid-phase micro-extraction combined (HS-SPME) with gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Then the characteristic aromatic values, which reflects the degree of scent perception by human, of each VOC in the plant was calculated according to its respective aromatic thresholds. Results showed that three main VOCs measured from highest to lowest are methyl benzoates, terpenes and fatty acid derivatives. Their content increased after the flower bud opening and reached the highest at half to full blossom. In a flower most VOC contents were measured in petals and only trace amount in other tissues such as stamen, pistil. A small amount of VOCs was determined in leaves as well.All aromatic values were almost corresponded to the contents of three main VOCs, indicating that the flower fragrance arises truly from these VOC components. S-adenosyl-L-methionine: benzoic acid carboxyl methyl transferase (BAMT) catalyzes the final step to form methyl benzoates. To understand the mechanism of the formation of this main type fragrance and its regulation, we firstly isolate a gene of RfBAMT from petal of Rhododendron fortuneiby using homologous cloning and RACE technology. The full length of its cDNA was 1383 bp，with an open reading frame of 1104 bp, encoding a total of 368 amino acids. The phylogenetic tree analysis showed that RfBAMT was the closest to the BSMT of Camellia japonica, belonging to methyltransferases family. Then we measured the expression level of RfBAMT again at four flower developmental stages and in different flower tissues and leaves. The results showed that the expression level of this gene was highly positively correlated with the emitted content of methyl benzoates in the flowering, implying that RfBAMT plays a pivotal role in the formation and regulation of methyl benzoates in Rhododendron fortune.Thisresearchshowed that the RfBAMT was cloned and identified in our study and its expression level was highly positively correlated with the emitted content of methyl benzoates in the flowers and leaves, which indicated this gene may play an important role on regulation of methyl benzoate synthesis in Rhododendron fortunei.

Resumo Fundamento: A disfunção hepática é uma variável postulada de prognóstico desfavorável na cardiomiopatia dilatada (CMD). Objetivo: Este estudo teve como objetivo investigar o valor prognóstico do escore albumina-bilirrubina (ALBI), um modelo relativamente novo para a avaliação da função hepática, em pacientes com CMD idiopática. Métodos: Um total de 1.025 pacientes com CMD idiopática foram incluídos retrospectivamente e divididos em três grupos com base nos escores de ALBI: grau 1 (≤ −2,60, n = 113), grau 2 (−2,60 a −1,39, n = 835) e grau 3 (> −1,39, n = 77). Foi analisada a associação do escore ALBI com eventos clínicos adversos maiores (ECAM) intra-hospitalares e mortalidade a longo prazo. Valor de p inferior a 0,05 foi considerado estatisticamente significativo. Resultados: A taxa de ECAM intra-hospitalares foi significativamente maior nos pacientes com grau 3 (2,7% versus 7,1% versus 24,7%, p < 0,001). A análise multivariada mostrou que o escore ALBI foi um preditor independente para ECAM intra-hospitalares (odds ratio ajustada = 2,80, IC 95%: 1,63 – 4,80, p < 0,001). Após seguimento mediano de 27 meses, 146 (14,2%) pacientes morreram. A curva de Kaplan-Meier indicou que a taxa cumulativa de sobrevida a longo prazo foi significativamente menor em pacientes com grau mais alto de ALBI (log-rank = 45,50, p < 0,001). O escore ALBI foi independentemente associado à mortalidade a longo prazo (hazard ratio ajustada = 2,84, IC 95%: 1,95 – 4,13, p < 0,001). Conclusão: O escore ALBI, como modelo de risco simples, pode ser considerado uma ferramenta de estratificação de risco para pacientes com CMD idiopática.

Introduction and objectives: Pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) technique has become the cornerstone of atrial fibrillation (AF) catheter ablation. The objective of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of extended antrum ablation based on electrophysiological substrate mapping plus PVI in AF patients who underwent cryoballoon ablation. Methods: In this observational study, a total of 121 paroxysmal AF patients and 80 persistent AF patients who did not achieve the procedure endpoint after cryoballoon ablation received extra extended antrum ablation (EAA) based on electrophysiological substrate mapping via radiofrequency ablation (EAA group). As a control group (PVI group), among paroxysmal AF and persistent AF patients, we conducted a propensity score-matched cohort, in whom only PVI was completed. Results: The average follow-up time was 15.27±7.34 months. Compared with PVI group, paroxysmal AF patients in the EAA group had a significantly higher rate of AF-free survival (90.1% vs. 80.2%, p=0.027) and AF, atrial flutter, or atrial tachycardia (AFLAT) -free rate survival (89.3% vs. 79.3%, p=0.031). Persistent AF patients in the EAA group also had a significantly higher rate of AF-free survival (90.0% vs. 75.0%, p=0.016) and AFLAT-free survival (88.8% vs. 75.0%, p=0.029) than PVI group. Complication rates did not significantly differ between both groups, in either paroxysmal AF or persistent AF patients. Conclusion: Our findings demonstrate that extra extended antrum ablation based on electrophysiological substrate mapping is effective and safe. Moreover, the strategy can improve the outcome of AF cryoablation. Resumo: Introdução e objetivos: A técnica de isolamento das veias pulmonares (IVP) tornou-se a pedra angular da ablação por cateter da fibrilhação auricular (FA). O objetivo deste estudo consistiu em avaliar a eficácia e a segurança da ablação antral alargada com base no mapeamento do substrato eletrofisiológico, para lá do IVP em doentes com FA, submetidos a crioablação. Métodos: Neste estudo observacional, 121 doentes com FA paroxística e 80 doentes com FA persistente que não alcançaram o objetivo do procedimento após a crioablação foram submetidos a ablação antral alargada com base no mapeamento do substrato eletrofisiológico, através de ablação por radiofrequência (grupo de Ablação Antral Alargada, grupo AAA). Como grupo controlo (grupo do Isolamento das Veias Pulmonares, grupo IVP), em doentes com FA paroxística e com FA persistente, realizámos um score de propensão agrupado, no qual só foi efetuado o IVP. Resultados: O tempo médio de seguimento foi 15,27±7,34 meses. Quando comparados com o grupo IVP, os doentes com FA paroxística no grupo AAA apresentaram uma taxa significativamente mais elevada de sobrevivência livre de FA (90,1% versus 80,2%, p=0,027) e de sobrevivência livre de AFLAT (FA, flutter auricular ou taquicardia auricular) (89,3% versus 79,3%, p=0,031). Os doentes com FA persistente no grupo AAA também apresentaram uma taxa significativamente mais elevada de sobrevivência livre de FA (90,0% versus 75,0%, p=0,016) e de sobrevivência livre de AFLAT (88,8% versus 75,0%, p=0,29) do que no grupo de IVP. As taxas de complicações não diferiram significativamente entre dois grupos, tanto nos doentes com FA paroxística como nos com FA persistente. Conclusão: Os nossos resultados demonstraram que a ablação antral alargada com base no mapeamento de substrato eletrofisiológico é eficaz e segura. Além disso, a estratégia pode melhorar os resultados da FA por crioablação.

In this study, we propose a novel method to determine the vitamin C content in fruits and vegetables. The proposed method exploits the image and data processing abilities of computers by coupling a digital camera and a color reaction. An image acquisition device was developed to collect the image information of the solution to be measured after the color reaction. The corresponding RGB and Lab color components were obtained by an image analysis software. Further, the standard curves of the vitamin C concentration and color component were established by nonlinear, linear, and multivariate data fitting. The detection range was 0.81-20.00 µg mL-1 (R2 = 0.9994), LOD was 0.24 µg mL-1, LOQ was 0.81 µg mL-1, accuracy was 98.95%, and precision was determined with an RSD of 0.73%. A comparison of the results confirmed that the proposed method’s accuracy was higher than that of the spectrophotometric method. The proposed method has a simple design and facilitates easy operation, and the cost of the equipment is only US$ 31.43. Therefore, it can replace the traditional spectrophotometric method for the determination of vitamin C content in fruits and vegetables and is highly applicable in the food, chemical, and medical fields.

Abstract Background: Interferon (IFN)-λ1, also named Interleukin (IL)-29, is a new member of the Type III IFN or IFN-λ family. IL-29 plays an important role in the pathogenesis of many types of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases. Objective: To study the role of IL-29 in the pathogenesis of psoriasis vulgaris. Methods: The authors detected the serum levels of IL-29 in forty-one patients with psoriasis vulgaris, twenty-three patients with atopic dermatitis and thirty-eight age and gender-matched controls by sandwich Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA). The effects of IL-29 on the expression of cytokines, such as IL-6, IL-17, IL-8, IL-4, IL10, Interferon (IFN-γ) and Tumor Necrosis Factor-α (TNF-α), in PBMCs and HaCat cells were determined by real-time quantitative PCR. Results: Our data indicated that serum IL-29 levels were significantly elevated in patients with psoriasis vulgaris when compared with atopic dermatitis patients and the control group. Moreover, Serum levels of IL-29 were closely associated with the severity of psoriasis vulgaris. Furthermore, IL-29 up-regulated the mRNA expression levels of IL-6, IL-17 and TNF-α in PBMCs from psoriasis vulgaris patients. In addition, IL-29 enhanced the IL-6 and IL-8 expression from the HaCat cells. Conclusion: This study provides the first observations on the association of IL-29 and psoriasis vulgaris and showed elevated IL-29 serum levels. The authors suggest that IL-29 may play a role in the pathogenesis of psoriasis vulgaris.

Assim, a FE tornou-se parte fundamental da prática clínica diária. Objetivo: Este estudo tem como objetivo investigar características, preditores e desfechos associados a alterações da FE em pacientes com diferentes tipos de IC grave. Métodos: Foram incluídos neste estudo 626 pacientes com IC grave e classe III–IV da New York Heart Association (NYHA). Os pacientes foram classificados em três grupos de acordo com as alterações da FE, ou seja, FE aumentada (FE-A), definida como aumento da FE ≥10%, FE diminuída (FE-D), definida como diminuição da FE ≥10%, e FE estável (FE-E), definida como alteração da FE

Resumo Fundamento A doença Coronavírus 2019 (COVID-19), causada pela síndrome respiratória aguda grave Coronavírus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), espalhou-se pelo mundo. Objetivo Investigar a associação entre a hipertensão e a gravidade/mortalidade de pacientes hospitalizados com COVID-19 em Wuhan, China. Métodos Um total de 337 pacientes diagnosticados com COVID-19 no Sétimo Hospital da cidade de Wuhan, de 20 de janeiro a 25 de fevereiro de 2020, foram inseridos e analisados em um estudo de caso unicêntrico e retrospectivo. O nível de significância adotado para a análise estatística foi 0,05. Resultados Dos 337 pacientes com diagnóstico confirmado de COVID-19, 297 (87.8%) tiveram alta do hospital e 40 pacientes (22,9%) morreram. A idade média foi de 58 anos (variando de 18 a 91 anos). Havia 112 (33,2%) pacientes diagnosticados com hipertensão no momento da internação (idade média, 65,0 anos [variação, 38-91 anos]; sendo 67 homens [59,8%, IC95%: 50,6%-69,0%], p=0,0209). Pacientes com hipertensão apresentaram uma porção significativamente maior de casos graves (69 [61,6%, IC95%: 52,5%-70,8%] vs. 117 [52,0%, IC95%: 45,4%-58,6%] em pacientes graves e 23 [19,3%, IC95%: 12,9%-28,1%] vs. 27 [12,0%, IC95%: 7,7%-16,3%] em pacientes críticos, p=0,0014) e maiores taxas de mortalidade (20 [17,9%, IC95%: 10,7%-25,1%] vs. 20 [8,9%, IC95%: 5,1%-12,6%, p=0,0202). Além disso, pacientes hipertensos apresentaram níveis anormais de vários indicadores, como linfopenia e inflamação, e nas funções cardíacas, hepáticas, renais e pulmonares no momento da internação. O grupo de pacientes com hipertensão também demonstrou níveis maiores de TNT e creatinina próximo da alta. Conclusão A hipertensão está altamente associada à gravidade ou mortalidade da COVID-19. Um tratamento agressivo deve ser considerado para pacientes hipertensos com COVID-19, principalmente com relação a lesões cardíacas e dos rins.

This research investigates the applicability of a relatively new concept from cognitive linguistics, Radical Construction Grammar (RCG) (Croft：2001), as an analytical model in the study of the translation process. Based on the fundamental concepts of RCG, this article puts forward a construction-oriented view of translation and the following six construction-based translation principles: the semantic function priority principle, the conceptual space-based principle, the gestalt principle, the interactivity principle, the taxonomic principle, and the prototype priority principle. These RCG-based translation conceptions and principles will be detailed and verified in translation examples with the Chinese polysemic word 'yao' in different constructions, selected from the translation of the Chinese classic A Dream of Red Mansions (Cao & Gao:1994). The results of this study show that RCG can provide an innovative linguistic model for translation studies, particularly for the issue of polysemy.

Our aim was to perform an initial assessment of the polymorphic patterns of the PIN1 gene in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD). The PIN1-encoded protein (Pin1) suppresses eNOS-NO signaling and may impair cardiovascular function. Blood collection, DNA extraction, PCR amplification and gene sequencing were performed for thirty CHD participants living in central China, focusing on nine single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs). Their genetic linkages were revealed and their allele frequencies were compared with SNP data from the NCBI. Three major linkage patterns were identified: [1.rs2287839-5.rs2233682], [3.rs2233679-4.rs1077220–8.rs2287838] and [6.rs889162-7.rs2010457], suggesting correlated involvement in CHD and possible simultaneous genetic origin in ancient times. The frequencies of six SNPs are consistent with the NCBI data, while the frequencies of three SNPs (2.rs2233678, 4.rs1077220 and 9.rs4804461) are not consistent with the NCBI. Especially, the 3.rs2233679–4.rs1077220 linkage is different from other populations worldwide and may be an interesting genetic characteristic of Chinese CHD patients. Predictably, 1.rs2287839, 2.rs2233678, 3.rs2233679 and 5.rs2233682 may be strongly associated with CHD risk, although this requires future verification. The PIN1 SNP linkages lay a new genetic foundation for discovering novel molecular mechanisms of CHD and for exploring PIN1-based targeted treatment of CHD with nitric oxide regulatory therapies in clinical practice. Resumo: O objetivo deste estudo é avaliar os polimorfismos do gene PIN1 em doentes com doença arterial coronária (DAC). A proteína codificada pelo gene PIN1 (Pin1) suprime a sinalização eNOS-NO e pode afetar a função cardiovascular. Foram incluídos 30 indivíduos com DAC, residentes na China central, a quem foi recolhido sangue, extraído e amplificado o DNA por PCR. Foram estudados nove polimorfismos de nucleótidos únicos (SNPs) do gene PIN1. As suas associações genéticas foram estudadas e as frequências de alelo foram comparadas com os dados de SNPs do NCBI. Foram identificados três grandes padrões de linkage: [1.rs2287839-5.rs2233682], [3.rs2233679-4.rs107220-8.rs2287838] e [6.rs889162-7.rs2010457], sugerindo o seu envolvimento na DAC e possível origem genética simultânea histórica. As frequências de seis dos SNPs foram consistentes com os dados do NCBI, enquanto as frequências de três dos SNPs (2.rs2233678, 4.rs1077220 e 9.rs4804461) não foram consistentes com o NCBI. Especificamente, a ligação 3.rs2233679-4.rs1077220 é diferente de outras populações mundiais e poderá constituir uma característica genética específica dos doentes chineses com DAC. Previsivelmente, 1.rs2287839, 2.rs2233678, 3.rs2233679 e 5.rs2233682 podem estar particularmente associados ao risco de DAC, requerendo validação ulterior. As ligações PIN1-SNP estabelecem uma nova base genética para a descoberta de novos mecanismos moleculares da DAC e para explorar o tratamento de precisão da DAC com medicamentos reguladores do óxido nítrico, baseado nos polimorfismos do gene PIN1.

ABSTRACT Objective: To investigate the efficacy and safety of febuxostat on renal function in CKD stage 3 diabetic nephropathy patients. Methods: Patients in our hospital with chronic kidney disease (CKD) stage 3 diabetic nephropathy (DN) complicated by high serum uric acid (360 µmol/L) were recruited. Patients were then divided into treatment group and control group according to the random number table method. All the patients received low purine diet, renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) inhibitors, and adequate routine hypoglycemic treatment. Febuxostat was employed only in the treatment group. The levels of blood uric acid (sUA), serum creatinine (Scr), cystatin C (cys-c), eGFR, 24-hour urine protein quantification, albuminuria, and creatinine ratio (ACR) were evaluated in all patients before and after treatment at 4, 8, 12, and 24 week. Results: No difference was found before treatment between the two groups. Abstract Background: Higher skin pH in atopic dermatitis contributes to impaired epidermal barrier. A moisturizer compatible with physiological pH could improve atopic dermatitis. Objective: To determine the effect of a physiologically compatible pH moisturizer in atopic dermatitis. Methods: A randomized half body, double blind, controlled trial involving patients with stable atopic dermatitis was performed. pH-modified moisturizer and standard moisturizer were applied to half body for 6 weeks. Results: A total of 6 (16.7%) males and 30 (83.3%) females participated. Skin pH reductions from week 0, week 2 and 6 were significant at the forearms (5.315 [0.98] to 4.85 [0.54] to 5.04 [0.78], p = 0.02) and abdomen (5.25 [1.01], 4.82 [0.64], 5.01 [0.59], p = 0.00) but not at the shins (5.01 [0.80], 4.76 [0.49], 4.85 [0.79], p = 0.09) with pH-modified moisturizer. Transepidermal water loss (TEWL) at the forearms decreased (4.60 [2.55] to 3.70 [3.10] to 3.00 [3.55], p = 0.00), abdomen (3.90 [2.90] to 2.40 [3.45] to 2.70 [2.25], p = 0.046). SCORAD improved from 14.1 ± 12.75 to 10.5 ± 13.25 to 7 ± 12.25, p = 0.00. In standard moisturizer group, pH reductions were significant at the forearms (5.29 [0.94] to 4.84 [0.55] to 5.02 [0.70], p = 0.00) and abdomen (5.25 [1.09], 4.91 [0.63], 5.12 [0.66], p = 0.00). TEWL at the forearm were (4.80 [2.95], 4.10 [2.15], 4.60 [3.40], p = 0.67), shins (3.80 [1.40], 3.50 [2.35], 4.00 [2.50], p = 0.91) and abdomen (3.70 [2.45], 4.10 [3.60], 3.40 [2.95], p = 0.80). SCORAD improved from 14.2 ± 9.1 to 10.9 ± 10.65 to 10.5 ± 11, p = 0.00. Reduction in pH was observed with both moisturizers while TEWL significantly improved with pH-modified moisturizer. pH-modified moisturizer resulted in greater pH, TEWL and SCORAD improvements however the differences were not significant from standard moisturizer. Study limitation: Skin hydration was not evaluated. Conclusion: Moisturization is beneficial for atopic dermatitis; use of physiologically compatible pH moisturizer is promising.

History films personalize, dramatize and emotionalize historical events and characters. They revive the past by exemplifying it in the present, engage ongoing discourses of history and as a result have proven to be the most influential medium in conveying history to large audiences. History films are regarded as an attractive, motivating and efficient (supplementary) teaching and learning medium in history as well as in foreign language classes. As part of the course “Historical Survey of Germany” (BA German-programme at University Putra Malaysia) history film projects on important periods and events in German history were conducted. The article introduces a film project on World War II and describes the pedagogical approach which aims to develop three core competencies of historical understanding – Content Knowledge, Historical Empathy/Perspective Recognition and Narrative Analysis. It discusses selected general findings provided as qualitative data in group and individual assignments. While the responses to questions related to Content Knowledge and Narrative Analysis show that students achieved higher competency levels, the participants showed shortcomings in the rational examination of historical characters, their perspectives and motivations for their actions. Time, practice and guidance can be identified as key factors in developing historical literacy competencies further.

ABSTRACT The objective of the present study was to evaluate the reduction of calcium (Ca), crude protein (CP), metabolizable energy (ME), and available phosphorus (aP) in the nutritional matrix of Brazilian commercial broiler diets supplemented with both phytase superdosing (1500 FTU/kg) or conventional doses (500 FTU/kg) on the feed cost and profitability, performance, bone mineralization, and carcass yield of broiler from 1 to 42 d. A total 1200 one-day-old chicks (Cobb 500) were randomly distributed in a commercial feeding program composed of a positive control diet and three diets with reduction of Ca, aP, CP, and ME in the nutritional matrix supplemented with 500, 1000, and 1500 FTU/kg of phytase. The broilers subjected to diets with phytase superdosing presented similar performance, bone ash, and carcass yield, among the treatments. There was a linear effect in the total nutrition cost, gross margin, and estimated net margin per bird with the increase of dietary inclusion of phytase in all purposed scenarios. Thus, for each 500 FTU/kg of dietary phytase included in the diet with reduction of Ca, P, ME, and CP in the nutritional matrix, the total nutrition cost decreased R$ 0.072/bird, R$ 0.079/bird, and R$ 0.081/bird in scenarios of high, medium, and low prices of corn and soybean meal, respectively, that allowed an increase in the estimated net margin of R$ 0.20/bird, R$ 0.22/bird, and R$ 0.22/bird in the same scenarios.

Introdução: A dissecção da artéria carótida (DAC) tem como uma das principais repercussões o Acidente Vascular Cerebral isquêmico (AVCi) em indivíduos jovens previamente saudáveis. É comum que nas DAC traumáticas, como em acidentes automobilísticos, o paciente seja submetido à investigação mais complexa com exames de imagem. Estes permitem um diagnóstico precoce e, portanto, um tratamento, reduzindo as chances de sequelas. Todavia, causas não traumáticas com desfecho de DAC já foram relatadas, como as causas odontológicas. Objetivo: Contribuir para valorização diagnóstica da DAC não traumática e profilaxia de AVC subsequente. Métodos: Relatamos um caso de dissecção não aneurismática das artérias carótidas internas (ACI) pós-procedimento odontológico com desfecho de AVC bilateral em paciente de 52 anos. Resultados: Devido à forte associação de DAC a fatores traumáticos, em um primeiro contato com a paciente não foram levantadas suspeitas da ocorrência de DAC nem de AVC (ausência de déficit focal). Porém, tardiamente, foi identificada oclusão da ACI à esquerda e estenose na ACI direita, resultando em dois AVCs e incapacidade funcional severa na alta. Conclusão: O diagnóstico da DAC é um desafio, em especial por tratar-se de uma lesão de etiologia multifatorial. No entanto, seu reconhecimento precoce afetará diretamente o desfecho do paciente. Portanto, na presença de eventuais sintomas de alerta, faz-se necessário um meticuloso questionamento sobre as últimas atividades do indivíduo. Este estudo alerta para a adoção de condutas profiláticas na ocorrência de fatores causais como hiperextensão cervical prolongada ou movimentos súbitos da cervical.

RESUMEN Se analiza la situación de los laboratorios públicos productores de antivenenos en América Latina, con base a los resultados de en un taller coordinado por el Centro Panamericano de Fiebre Aftosa (PANAFTOSA) de la Organización Panamericana de la Salud (OPS). Nueve países en la región poseen doce laboratorios públicos que producen y distribuyen antivenenos contra venenos de diferentes animales ponzoñosos. Se discutió la situación de cada laboratorio, se analizó el escenario actual caracterizado por las crecientes demandas regulatorias y la heterogeneidad de estos en términos de infraestructura y capacidad productiva y se planteó la necesidad de concertar procesos de cooperación regional dirigidos a mejorar la disponibilidad de antivenenos, incluyendo proyectos de investigación y desarrollo para el mejoramiento de los procesos y las tecnologías; estudios del perfil de la capacidad neutralizante de los antivenenos contra diferentes venenos, y programas de capacitación técnica de profesionales y personal técnico. En el contexto actual, en el que la Organización Mundial de la Salud elaboró una estrategia global para la prevención y el control de los envenenamientos ofídicos, el Centro PANAFTOSA de la OPS ha asumido la coordinación de estas acciones en las Américas, mejorar la disponibilidad de antivenenos es prioritaria. Como resultado de ese taller, se creó la Red de Laboratorios Públicos Productores de Antivenenos de América Latina (RELAPA), con el objetivo de fortalecer estos laboratorios y de aumentar la disponibilidad y accesibilidad de antivenenos eficaces y seguros a toda América Latina.

As global economy takes off, we have a universalization of Manufacture and transfer of goods being made in other places. However, this practice results in some operational issues formultinational companies which are not able to transfer their know- how and supply chain practices for their overseas offices, due either to local legislation, lack of customized software to local rules and even transfer delays of the product. One of the most critical issues that emerges is the contractual obligations for keeping sla?? and state mandatory deadlines, which may result in penalties. The go-to solution for that issue is to organize and keep a local safety stock, although that is problematic in itself, due to short shelf life, maintenance cost and demand fluctuations. In addition, many man hours were used for planning the local safety stock. In a case study, an AI technique was used, called fuzzy logic, to deal with these issues. The technique described in this article for the real system was able to mimic the discretionary behavior of the operator responsible for the safety stock, performing ideal planning for acquisitions.

ABSTRACT Objective: The Michigan State University (MSU) classification of lumbar disc herniation (LDH) is periodically used by various authors to classify disc herniation. We assessed the reliability of this classification system among orthopedic residents at our institute. Methods: Fifty T2 axial-cut magnetic resonance images (MRI) corresponding to the level of maximal disc herniation from patients diagnosed with a single LDH were selected and distributed to six orthopedic residents. All six residents gave a specific rating for each image based on the MSU classification; in addition, three residents gave ratings on two different occasions. The degree of agreement among residents was analyzed by calculating inter-observer and intra-observer reliability using the Kappa statistic. Results: The inter-observer reliability among the six residents calculated as the Fleiss’ Kappa was 0.422, which indicates moderate reliability. The intra-observer reliability of three selected residents calculated by Cohen's Kappa was 0.750, 0.772, and 0.859, which indicates substantial to almost perfect reliability. Variations in ratings were frequent in images portraying a broad-based disc herniation with spinal canal stenosis. Conclusion: Our findings demonstrate moderate homogeneity of ratings given by residents; however, test-retest results proved the ratings to be consistent. Abstract: This study aimed to illustrate the impact of injury-related deaths on life expectancy in China in 2016 and to identify the high-risk population. Standard life tables were used to calculate life expectancy and cause-eliminated life expectancy by utilizing mortality data from the national mortality surveillance system. In 2016, the life expectancy of Chinese residents was 78.91 years. After eliminating injury-related mortality, the life expectancy of the residents increased by 1.13 years, which was higher in male and rural residents compared with female and urban residents. The life expectancy on the Eastern and Central regions increased slowly compared with the Western region. The greatest influencing factor on life expectancy was road traffic injuries, followed by falls. Falls had a greater impact on life expectancy for children under 5 years old and those aged over 65 years. This study indicates that deaths caused by injury had a noteworthy impact on life expectancy in China. More attention should be paid to road traffic injuries, and effective preventive measures should be taken to reduce deaths related to injury to increase the life expectancy of residents, especially in children under 5 years and adults over 65 years. By reducing the deaths caused by injury, the life expectancy level is likely to further improve.

The engagement of queer theory with the affective turn, particularly in its divergence from the previous discussions preoccupied with the historical development and poststructuralist critique of sexual identity, has generated three distinct yet related strains of affective scholarship: queer negativity, queer temporality, and queer as machinic body. Each of the strains has raises different analytical challenges and potentials for both queer theory and affect theory, which I term respectively feeling down, feeling backward, and feeling machinic. These three types of scholarship describe the varied forms of sociality and levels of intensity that the queer body is affected by and bring three particular contributions to queer theory, including deepening the understanding of cultural processes, shifting epistemology at the temporal scale, and widening sexual ontology beyond its spatial privileging of the Euro-American experience.

ABSTRACT: Monochasma savatieri Franch. ex Maxim is a perennial, parasitic herb used in traditional Chinese medicine and its wild resources have decreased sharply in recent years due to destructively harvesting and habitat destruction. Haustorium formation is a key event of parasites, but the concentrations of haustorium-inducing factors vary with species and cultivation conditions. In this study, we investigated the effects of the 2,6-dimethoxy-p-benzoquinone (DMBQ) concentration and cultivation density on the growth traits, haustorium formation and biomass of M. savatieri in the absence of a host plant. The results showed that both the DMBQ concentration and cultivation density regulated growth traits, haustorium formation and biomass in M. savatieri. The number of haustoria was significantly positively correlated with seedling height, maximum root length, the number of root tips and total dry weight. Membership function analysis revealed an overall greater increase in growth traits, haustorium formation and biomass when M. savatieri was treated with 10 μmol·L-1DMBQ and grew solitarily. These results offer an understanding of growth in M. savatieri influenced by the DMBQ concentration and cultivation density, which may aid in the establishment of a comprehensive cultivation system for M. savatieri or similar plants.

Objective: Total bilirubin is beneficial for protecting cardiovascular diseases in adults. The authors aimed to investigate the association of total bilirubin, red blood cell, and hemoglobin levels with the prevalence of high blood pressure in children and adolescents. Methods: A total of 3776 students (aged from 6 to 16 years old) were examined using cluster sampling. Pre‐high blood pressure and high blood pressure were respectively defined as the point of 90th and 95th percentiles based on the Fourth Report on the Diagnosis, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Pressure in Children and Adolescents. Both systolic and diastolic blood pressure were standardized into z‐scores. Results: Peripheral total bilirubin, red blood cell and hemoglobin levels were significantly correlated with age, and also varied with gender. Peripheral total bilirubin was negatively correlated with systolic blood pressure in 6‐ and 9‐year‐old boys, whilst positively correlated with diastolic blood pressure in the 12‐year‐old boys and 13‐ to 15‐year‐old girls (p 0.05). Conclusion: Total bilirubin could be weakly correlated with both systolic and diastolic blood pressure, as correlations varied with age and gender in children and adolescents; in turn, the increased levels of red blood cell and hemoglobin are proposed to be positively associated with the prevalence of high blood pressure. Resumo: Objetivo: A bilirrubina total é benéfica para proteger contra doenças cardiovasculares em adultos. Nosso objetivo foi investigar a associação dos níveis de bilirrubina total, glóbulos vermelhos e hemoglobina com a prevalência de pressão arterial elevada em crianças e adolescentes. Métodos: Um total de 3.776 estudantes (com idade entre 6-16 anos) foram examinados utilizando uma amostra em blocos. A pressão arterial elevada anterior e a pressão arterial elevada foram definidas como o 90° e 95° percentil, respectivamente, com base nos critérios do Quarto Relatório sobre Diagnóstico, Avaliação e Tratamento da Pressão Arterial elevada em Crianças e Adolescentes. A pressão arterial sistólica e pressão arterial diastólica foram padronizadas no escore z. Resultados: Os níveis periféricos de bilirrubina total, glóbulos vermelhos e hemoglobina foram significativamente correlacionados à idade, que também variou de acordo com o sexo. A bilirrubina total periférica apresentou uma correlação negativa com a pressão arterial sistólica em meninos com 6 e 9 anos, ao passo que apresentou uma correlação positiva com a pressão arterial diastólica em meninos de 12 anos e meninas de 13 a 15 anos (p < 0,05). Foram observados níveis mais elevados de glóbulos vermelhos e hemoglobina em estudantes com pressão arterial elevada anterior e pressão arterial elevada em comparação a indivíduos normotensos (p < 0,01). Os aumentos de glóbulos vermelhos e hemoglobina tiveram uma associação significativa com a pressão arterial elevada após ajuste dos fatores de confusão. As RC (IC de 95%) de cada um dos aumentos foram 2,44 (1,52‐3,92) e 1,04 (1,03‐1,06) respectivamente. Não foi observada nenhuma associação estatística entre o nível de bilirrubina total e a pressão arterial elevada (p > 0,05). Conclusão: A bilirrubina total pode ter correlações fracas com a pressão arterial sistólica e a pressão arterial diastólica, variando de acordo com a idade e o sexo em crianças e adolescentes, enquanto isso, propõe‐se que o aumento dos níveis de glóbulos vermelhos e hemoglobina está positivamente associado à prevalência de pressão arterial elevada. Abstract Background: Pioglitazone has been widely used as an insulin-sensitizing agent for improving glycemic control in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. However, cardiovascular risk and protective effects of pioglitazone remain controversial. Objectives: In this study, we investigated whether pioglitazone affects cardiomyocyte apoptosis and hypertrophy by regulating the VEGFR-2 signaling pathway. Methods: Cardiomyocytes were enzymatically isolated from 1- to 3-day-old Sprague-Dawley rat ventricles. Effects of pioglitazone and the VEGFR-2-selective inhibitor apatinib on cardiomyocyte apoptotic rate was determined using flow cytometry, and hypertrophy was evaluated using [3H]-leucine incorporation. The protein expressions of unphosphorylated and phosphorylated VEGFR-2, Akt, P53, and mTOR were determined by Western-Blotting. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to assess the differences between groups. Results: Pioglitazone and VEGFR-2-selective inhibitor apatinib reduced rat cardiomyocyte viability and cardiomyocyte hypertrophy induced by angiotensin II in vitro. Furthermore, in the same in vitro model, pioglitazone and apatinib significantly increased the expression of Bax and phosphorylated P53 and decreased the expression of phosphorylated VEGFR-2, Akt, and mTOR, which promote cardiomyocyte hypertrophy. Conclusions: These findings indicate that pioglitazone induces cardiomyocyte apoptosis and inhibits cardiomyocyte hypertrophy by modulating the VEGFR-2 signaling pathway.

ABSTRACT: Rice farming is characterized by various factors including environmental and non-environmental factors. The current paper analyses the influence of households’ characteristics, and perceptions of weather variability on rice yield. Authors used primary data collected from small-scale rice farmers in the Mbeya region of Tanzania. Garret technique and Stata software were used for data analyses. Results confirmed that farmer’s education, marital status, gender, and land ownership have a positive influence on rice yield. Thus, for every 1% increase in each variable increases rice yield by 14%, 98%, 26%, and 21% respectively. Owing to empirical results on farmers’ perceptions, it is confirmed that if the drought period increased by 1%, would on average reduce rice yield by 20%. The majority of farmers (70%) have perceived that drought period reduced their rice yield. In addition, farmers’ used averagely less quantity of rice seeds which have impaired their rice yields. If farmers increased the seed quantity by 1%, rice yields would increase by 17%. Our findings also revealed that the previous market price has positive association with the next seasons’ rice yield. Therefore, our study concluded that among households’ variables and their perceptions have positive implications on rice yield; however, with the empirical analyses other variables were insignificant due to multicollinearity effects. Authors recommended to the government and other responsible organizations to capitalize on irrigation infrastructures, agricultural extension and technological services to restraint the enduring food insecurity coercions in Tanzania.

En el presente artículo se estudia de manera precisa el concepto de colocación con la intención de incorporar este término en la enseñanza de ELE en China dado que este es desconocido para muchos estudiantes chinos de español. En el ámbito de la fraseología del español, las posturas que tienen diferentes estudiosos sobre qué se entiende por una colocación son tan diversas que nos han puesto ante la misión casi imposible de poder llegar a un acuerdo consensuado. No obstante, esto no significa que la enseñanza de colocaciones sea insignificante para el aprendiz. De hecho, con el propósito de averiguar la situación de este asunto en la enseñanza de ELE en China, se ha llevado a cabo un análisis del manual Español Moderno, que es el material didáctico más relevante que se utiliza en la carrera de Filología Hispánica en la mayoría de las universidades e institutos de China. Esto nos ha permitido sugerir algunas propuestas factibles para la enseñanza de colocaciones que pueden incidir en la mejora de dicho manual.

ABSTRACT Background: It is important but difficult to treat complex fistula-in-ano due to the high recurrent rate and following incontinence. Ligation of the intersphincteric fistula tract (LIFT), a novel surgical procedure with the advantage of avoiding anal incontinence, has a variable success rate of 57-94.4 %. Aim: To evaluate the long-term outcomes of modified LIFT operative procedure - ligation of intersphincteric fistula tract - to treat complex fistula-in-ano. Methods: Retrospective analysis of 62 cases of complex fistula-in-ano. The group was treated with the modified approach of LIFT (curved incision was made in the anal canal skin; purse-string suture was performed around the fistula; the residual fistulas were removed in a tunnel-based way) and had a follow-up time of more than one year. Patient´s preoperative general condition, postoperative efficacy and their anal function were compared. Results: The median age of the participants was 34, and 43 (69.4%) cases were male. Forty-one (66.1%) cases were of high transsphincteric fistula, four (6.5%) cases of high intrasphincter fistula, and 17 (27.4%) cases of anterior anal fistula in female. The median follow-up duration was 24.5 (range, 12-51) months. The success rate in the end of follow-up was 83.9% (52/62). The anorectal pressure and Cleveland Clinic Florida Fecal Incontinence (CCF-FI) evaluated three months before and after the operation did not find apparent changes. Conclusions: Compared with LIFT, the modified LIFT remarkably reduces postoperative failure and the recurrence rate of complex fistula with acceptable long-term outcomes.

RESUMO Objetivo: desenvolver e aplicar um instrumento para orientação das pesquisas em Telefonoaudiologia e identificar os pontos fortes e fracos destes projetos. Métodos: foi desenvolvido um questionário, abordando quatro competências distintas: administrativa, tecnológica, financeira e de sustentabilidade. Realizou-se a aplicação com 11 docentes que desenvolviam projetos na área de Telefonoaudiologia. Tais dados foram analisados por meio de estatística descritiva e aplicada a Matriz SWOT, que possibilitou identificar os pontos fortes e fracos, bem como o Diagrama de Ishikawa, para identificar os efeitos e causas. Resultados: foram aplicados os questionários e analisados 32 projetos em que os pontos fortes foram: a missão do projeto, a qualidade das informações, os canais de comunicação e os benefícios proporcionados aos usuários, tendo como principais causas a utilização de multimeios específicos, a educação continuada, a quantidade de informações disponibilizadas e o comprometimento do capital humano. Quanto aos pontos fracos, constatou-se a ausência de especialização da mão de obra em determinadas etapas do projeto, a falta de atualização de hardware e software, a exclusão digital de usuários e a obsolescência do projeto, sendo as principais causas concentradas na dificuldade de suporte técnico, profissionais para divulgação e treinamento, estratégias de marketing e a manutenção dos projetos desenvolvidos. Conclusão: foi desenvolvido e aplicado o questionário, sendo identificados os pontos fortes e pontos fracos, estando associados a especialização do capital humano. A maximização do tempo e a atualização dos recursos digitais foram identificados como insumos importantes para ampliar os benefícios dos projetos de Telessaúde, rumo à vantagem competitiva organizacional.

Abstract Tinea faciei is a relatively uncommon dermatophyte infection entailing atypical clinical symptoms, usually misdiagnosed and treated with corticosteroids. The authors describe a case of tinea faciei on the right eyebrow caused by Trichophyton interdigitale. The patient was an 18-year-old girl, who had an inflammatory plaque with a scaly, pustular surface on the right eyebrow and upper eyelid, which had persisted for over 1 month. She was once misdiagnosed as having eczema and was treated using corticosteroid cream. A diagnosis of tinea faciei was made based on direct microscopy and culture. The sequencing of the nuclear ribosomal ITS region and β-tubulin gene of the isolate established its T. interdigitale lineage. The patient was cured by treatment with systemic terbinafine in combination with topical application of 1% naftifine-0.25% ketaconazole cream for 2 weeks.
