CLASSIFICATION of books , *COMPUTER science , *LIBRARY information networks , *LIBRARY technical services , *INFORMATION science , *SCHOOL libraries , *BIBLIOGRAPHIC databases - Abstract
The purpose of this study is to approximate the classification process in libraries with computational thinking, a theoretical aspect present in computer science and, more recently, in other fields of knowledge such as information science. The study’s goal is to present an algorithm for precisely and computationally classifying works of children’s literature. The Content Analysis research method was used to analyze the color classification table in the document Guide for the standardization of Vila Velha school libraries network. Three analytical categories were developed a posteriori using the critical thinking skill. The study’s findings revealed three inaccuracies in the color classification table, namely: mutual coverage in classification; incompatibility in the genus-species relationship; incompatibility with the nature of information thematic representation. An algorithm was presented that allows for the precise and computational classification of works of children’s literature. The study concludes that computational thinking can be a process that organizes library classification activity, ensuring accuracy in information thematic representation due to the logical-computational character amalgamated throughout the process flow. POLITICAL knowledge , *MEDIA literacy , *LIBRARY information networks , *POLITICAL development , *MASS media & politics , *SCHOOL libraries - Abstract
Reports from the European Union and UNESCO present the development of citizen awareness as one of media literacy consequences. However, the same reports (and other scientific research) point to accelerated technical improvement while ethical and interpretive capabilities remain in the background. Could political literacy present itself as a resource to overcome such failures? This article propose to answer this question by analyzing the “Kids Voting” project, developed by the Portuguese magazine Visão Júnior in partnership with the Network of School Libraries of Portugal. The initiative simulates the entire Portuguese electoral process, bringing literary works as “candidates”. The final presentations lives, in 2021 and 2022, on YouTube and Facebook will be examined, through the methodology of the Audiovisual Materiality Analysis (AMA), proposed by Coutinho (2016), combined with the “5A’s” of media literacy developed by Mihailids (2014). It is expected to find notes that indicate paths for the joint development of media and political skills in the Brazilian context. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

VIRTUAL museums , *EDUCATIONAL entertainment , *CONSCIOUSNESS raising , *INTERNET access , *VIRTUAL reality , *LIBRARY media specialists , *SCHOOL libraries , *DIGITAL libraries , *SCHOOL librarians - Abstract
this research presents a study about the uses and mediation of information through virtual museums. It reflects on this informational environment as an innovative pedagogical resource for teaching and learning at school. From this perspective, it aims to understand the teachers' perception of virtual museums as a source of information capable of enhancing student learning. For this, it analyzes the Brazilian portal Era Virtual, which houses several virtual museums and public access exhibitions. As a methodology, it is an exploratory research, through action research, carried out through a pedagogical workshop with participants of the International Pedagogy Forum. As a result, it appears that teachers know about virtual museums and consider them important for the teaching and learning of students, however, they are not yet present in pedagogical activities and practices. One of the possible factors to justify this conclusion would be the lack of structure of laboratories and school libraries that do not have adequate equipment and quality internet access. In addition, there is a lack of professionals, such as librarians, in the school. Finally, it is concluded that there is still a long way to go to raise public awareness of the importance of digital and virtual information environments, such as digital libraries and virtual museums, for educational or even entertainment purposes. SPECIAL education teachers , *SPECIAL libraries , *SCHOOL libraries , *COMMUNITY schools , *LIBRARY technical services , *SOCIAL integration - Abstract
Reading is one of the fundamental requirements for the educational success and inclusion of any individual in their society. The concept of an inclusive school library reinforces the need to establish conditions of access to information for students with functional diversity. The main objective of this investigation is to understand how a school library in the municipality of Fundão, the object of our study, develops activities that contribute to the stimulation of reading skills in these students. In the empirical study, we adopted a qualitative methodology, with characteristics of a case study of the exploratory type, in which we used the following data collection methods: the semi-structured interview, direct observation and document analysis. The results obtained in the empirical investigation allow us to conclude that the school library analyzed does not specifically develop the stimulation of reading skills in students with functional diversity with how often this educational space is used, despite the good human and material resources available. On the other hand, there are no formal levels of collaboration between the school library coordinator and Special Education teachers in developing specific reading activities for these students. We believe that our study can be a useful contribution to raising awareness in the educational community of the importance of school libraries in the process of educational and social inclusion of students who have persistent difficulties in reading acquisition. school libraries ,cuban school libraries ,library science ,cuba ,Bibliography. Library science. Information resources - Abstract
The work aims to identify the process of emergence, evolution and perspectives of the development of the school library in Cuba. In this sense, the evolution of the actions focused on school libraries in historical periods is divided according to the country's development. It is described what happened since the beginning of the 20th century, during the republican period, after the triumph of the revolution (1959) and the special period (90 years) until 2010. The study is based on the documentary analysis from a review of the literature, mostly collected by magazines that are no longer published. In addition, it relies on the consultation of a group of investigations carried out by the Department of Information Sciences of the Faculty of Communication of the University of Havana subscribed to the research line ‘theoretical and historical studies in Information and Communication’. The results reveal the attempts over time to raise up the level of school libraries in Cuba. Many of these efforts are considered isolated, which may disrupt the fact that no major progress has been achieved.

In this article, we work with some methodological displacements in the research chain in/of/with the everyday life, marked with this pandemic time. A few already existed and others appeared, mostly due to the bad distribution of internet throughout the country and the lack of technological artifacts, from both teachers and students, showing the enormous differences existing in the Brazilian population regarding the access to education and curricular processes at schools. The analysis and exposure of those questions are done with the support in the theoretical-methodological questions in which we work: educative networks, conceptual characters, scientific circulation, 'practicestheories'. This analysis has the aid of the conversations we made with the texts from Certeau, Deleuze-Guattari and Brazilian authors that work with everyday life researches. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

EARLY childhood education , *REQUIRED courses (Education) , *NATIONAL curriculum , *SCHOOL libraries , *LIBRARY resources , *COST estimates - Abstract
The Common National Curriculum Base, approved in 2017, is the most current document in the Brazilian educational field that regulates pedagogical practices in educational institutions. In early childhood education, play is defined as one of the rights to learning and development, so one of the school managers' demands is to guarantee it in children's daily lives. The playroom is a planned space for children that provides play, interaction, and development. In this context, the overall objective of the study was to make a proposal and budgets of playful resources for a toy library in a municipal school in Gramado, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, according to the descriptions of the Curricular Base and Curriculum Reference Gaucho. The methodology used was a mixed approach, encompassing qualitative and quantitative aspects through document analysis and cost estimates. As a result, it was found that a toy library project with various materials, natural elements and local culture is a possibility, considering the financial resources and the school reality. With the goal of contributing to the literacy processes of 4-year-old children, this article investigates peculiarities about how children of that age read the visual narrative of "Ladrão de galinha" by Béatrice Rodriguez. The research has a qualitative and exploratory approach and part of the selection and analysis of an integral part of the Program's Early Childhood Collection National Library of the School (PNBE) 2014, followed by construction and application of a proposal for mediation of reading with children in groups, in order to analyze how they act in the process of construction of sense of visual narratives, from intentionally planned situations of mediation. As a result of the study, we point out contributions from the literary reading of the picture book in the daily school life of pre-school children. We also verify that children, in situations of interaction, help, complement, converge, diverge, express their opinions through speech or other forms of expression. In summary, the book of images proved to be a valuable cultural object that promotes interaction and autonomy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

MONUMENTS , *SYMBOLISM in art , *MEMORY , *MEMORIALS , *ATTENTION , *SCHOOL libraries , *ARCHIVES - Abstract
The iconography has been the protagonist in recent times of great memorial controversies. Some recent attacks on monuments of colonial figures show misplaced representations of the past, arousing collective ire. In this article we will concentrate on reviewing the role of monuments in the representation of the past, paying attention to the different paradigms to which they have obeyed. At the same time, we will put into play some conceptualizations relating to memory and the archive, to finally offer some reflections on anachronism, beyond the accusation of the Annales school. The contributions of Reinhart Koselleck and other contemporary thinkers related to the aforementioned theme will be of the utmost importance for this. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

LIBRARY associations , *SCHOOL libraries , *INTERNATIONAL organization , *SCHOOL librarians , *REQUIRED courses (Education) , *NATIONAL curriculum , *LIBRARIES - Abstract
This research seeks to broaden the debate and reflection around the question: Are there elements in the Common National Curricular Base that allow us to evidence the insertion of the school library and the librarian in the formal educational process? This research aims to verify in the Common National Curricular Base the existence of elements that allow pointing this inclusion in interlocution with the Guidelines of the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions. Regarding the methodological approach, this is basic research. It is based on the premise that its result enables a practical application; as documentary research because it seeks to select and interpret documents that from a certain point of view have not been analytically examined by researchers, aiming to reveal their characteristics. The results found show that no chapter talks specifically about school libraries and/or their role. In the 600 pages of the document, the term "library" appears explicitly only in two situations that refer specifically to educational practices. It was concluded that, although the Common National Curricular Base advocates the valuing and the problematization of the experiences of the students lived in various out-of-class environments, such as the library, it does not bring the insertion of the school library and the librarian in the formal educational process. The article aims to analyze the school library and children as users, from concepts produced to the challenges that remain. It is based on the principle that the school library is an environment whose concept has been transformed throughout history, being for children a space of circulation and production of knowledge, information, knowledge and new relationships in this field, reading and research the central focus. This is a theoretical study, therefore an investigation of a bibliographic nature. Concludes on the importance of the school library in the formation of the child, from the approach with books, literature and research. However, this environment still needs to overcome old challenges that include re-signifying its space and collection from the public that attends it, especially the children. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper proposes an action plan aimed at the use of comics as a didactic tool in the application of Law 10.639 / 03. The research is based on studies referring to the educational function of comics. Thus, it will be analyzed the insertion of these materials in school libraries and in the curriculum guidelines — for the implementation of the aforementioned law. The purpose of the plan is to enable the use of comics about Afro-Brazilian culture, suggesting titles specifically designed to comply with the law; it is recommended, as well solutions for one of the points considered critical in its effective fulfillment: the lack of familiarity of teachers with the topic and their unpreparedness to approach it in the classroom. AUTISM spectrum disorders , *LIBRARY education , *LIBRARY science , *INFORMATION science , *ASSISTIVE technology , *SCHOOL libraries , *SCHOOL librarians - Abstract
The dizzying growth of autistic people poses challenges for society as a whole and the school library could not be exempt from such responsibilities. In Brazil, data related to autism will be revealed for the first time in the 2020 Census, as the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics is conducting a survey of the census aimed at this audience. The article presents a systematic analysis carried out in the scientific production of the area of Library and Information Science on the subject - the autistic spectrum disorder and the performance of the school library. In order to identify the inclusive actions that could be proposed by the library for the inclusion of these students. The methodological approach used was to systematically review the literature of 17 articles retrieved from the Information Science Database, for the analysis of the data, the thematic analysis method was used. The results pointed to a lack of publications on autism spectrum disorder in the area of Library Science and Information Science. We found that the inclusion of these students is a very rich and challenging field for future investigations. The assistive technologies, ludic resources and the continuing education of the librarian are great allies for an inclusive school library. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aiming to understand how the child reads the children's literary book, we interviewed students from the 4th grade of Elementary School (Caxias do Sul-RS). The interview was guided in 3 books, involving picture, prose and verse categories, as provided in the Call of the School Library National Program -PNBE (2014). Interviews, built from Bauer and Gaskell (2002), took place in two stages, one designed to answer general questions about reading and other, specific, focusing on reading each title. The data analysis was performed with parameters constructed from Ramos and Panozzo (2004) and Ramos (2010). This qualitative study is predominantly descriptive and analytical, and points out that the child builds senses through their experiences and knowledge, interacting with different discursive modalities. It's also appreciated that that empty inherent in the textual structure can limit the realization of poetry, suggesting that School Library National Program - PNBE besides provide literary books, should consider mediating actions so that literary reading can result. ABSTRACT This article considers the importance of the contribution of professional training for the development librarians’ consciousness of the social needs of the different environments in which they are expected to act. During their courses they should acquire information and the capacity to be able to contribute to the overcoming of the great social inequalities in the country. Two basic principles of social librarianship are here presented and discussed as basic instruments for acquiring this consciousness and capacity: information mediation and information appropriation. As empirical evidence of attention to social librarianship during professional training, two Brazilian librarianship courses programs are analyzed here, considering their emphasis to university extension activities and to school libraries. The analyzes presented indicate that both courses offer opportunities in social librarianship training, but do not yet indicate full attention to the theme.

This dissertation is based on the analysis of the application of learning scenarios using tangible programmable objects in order to work the curriculum in the context of the school library of the 1st cycle of basic education, trying to understand its influence on the learning of the students involved. To this end, the research objectives were set as the analysis of the level of impact of this type of activities in improving students' learning and school results in conjunction with a reflection on the role of the School Library in the context of internal teacher training in the creation and use of these learning scenarios. A literature review on the topic was carried out and a practice-based case study was developed with 1st cycle classes. Multiple sources of information were used for data collection: observation grids, the application of a pre and post session knowledge check questionnaire, and in-depth interviews with the teachers involved. The results obtained show that the creation of learning scenarios involving programming and robotics, through the application of active methodologies such as gamification, allow for an interdisciplinary exploration of reading and other curricular contents, where knowledge becomes more substantial and permanent for students.

The main goal of this article is to describe the transformation of school libraries into CREA (Spanish term for Teaching & Learning Resources Centres) as a requirement for them to fulfil an effective function in Education for the Knowledge Society. Approaching the Spanish case, it starts analysing the Spanish legislative framework as a means to understand the current situation of school libraries in the country. Then, it presents a theoretical model, a definition and managerial aspects related to CREA. Considering the conversion of school libraries into educational digital libraries as the biggest challenge, the article also analyses the malfunctions experienced by school libraries in technological environments, the challenges for their transformation and the elements upon which such transformation will be built. It finally presents existing and possible instruments for managing educational digital contents as well as for organizing knowledge in next generation CREA educational digital libraries.

ABSTRACT Having as research object the educational public policies to encourage reading in basic education, we have investigated the manifestation of neoliberalism in the extinct National School Library Program, as public educational policies to encourage reading in basic education directed to school libraries. Thus, the specific objectives were: a) to analyze the bibliographic production on the PNBE - through the works available in the Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel and of the articles published in Scielo - from the perspective of other researchers on the theme; b) discuss the impacts of neoliberalism on public educational policies that are formulated for school libraries; c) identify the areas of activity of the PNBE to improve reading in basic education. To this end, the qualitative perspective is the approach that underlies this dissertation of literature review, whose analytical nature is performed through documentary and bibliographic research carried out from a non-systematic survey. Along these lines, we found 35 master's and doctoral research carried out on PNBE in the CAPT's BDTD that supported the research about the failures surrounding this public policy. We present under the name of PNBE's dysfunctions: lack of teacher training, large-scale exams, failure as an individual matter, lack of infrastructure, correlation of the amounts invested and statements about “number of students served”, deficit in trained staff, gap in student access to available materials. These “common” and allegedly mundane facts are intrinsically related and cooperate to maintain school and social inequalities, therefore, they represent neoliberal interferences due to the lack of action by the State to carry out public policy and try to solve the disengagement from the children of the working class to the reading practice. Therefore, we defend the responsibility of the State for choosing not to plan this policy considering the current results showing that the materials are delivered to schools, but there is not even the realization of their accommodation in libraries or reading rooms and, consequently, they are not accessed. by basic education students.

School libraries questions their physical essence and their relevance when confronted with the globalization of the digital and almost immaterial trend of computerized information. The very concept of "information" now requires a more frequent review. Apparent freedom of access to and production of information, universally available, highlights even more significantly ethical dilemmas than those that have existed to date. The dematerialization of our live, after all, does not purify it. It carries within all our human frailties. Discussions about the role of school libraries in students' digital lives and their literacies produces a wide variety of arguments and ignites many opinions. These discussions encompass concepts in constant adaptation such as; "moderation" or "censorship"; "true" or "false"; or "belief" and "science". Beyond any trend, the library should prepare its readers to be critical. Even tractional reading concepts need now to be revised, in view of the multimedia readings growth and the adaptation to the new generations demands. The library should adopt a learning and constant attention to the ethnographic and sociological new generations study, to offer the appropriate response to new requirements. Lastly, based on the Rede de Bibliotecas Escolares (Portuguese School Library Network) surveys applied to the district of Setúbal school libraries, in 2015 and 2017, we find students' opinions trends on the role played by the school library in promoting digital content and training in the Internet or digital resources use. We conclude that students recognise the traditional skills of library and its delicate process of integration into the digital world.

Over time, the school library has modified its profile, opening the door to cultural mediation by trying to leave the stigma of a quiet place behind and demanding a new performance from the school librarian. This paper aims to analyze the path taken by the school library in Brazil in order to reflect on its current configuration as a space of cultural mediation and the role of the librarian info-educator in the current context of these spaces, through an exploratory research of bibliographic and documentary character. Thus, the school library's fundamental role in training its users is hereby affirmed through a practice that goes beyond supporting the classroom and encouraging reading habits, as well as the need for trained professionals to do so.

- Abstract
This article proposes to conduct a thorough reflection on the concept of ethics of academic work in higher education, under the conceptual framework of information literacy. It is proposed that, recognizing from the outset the need for information, the college student can develop a set of research practices, location, selection and use information ethically, in pursuing an academic work. To support this reflection on ethical component, a review of literature and previously reported regarding the use of the documentation and information analysis experiential practices, particularly the one held in school libraries, is performed.
