TIME reversal , *PHILOSOPHERS - Abstract
The aims of this paper is to discuss the main points in which Deleuze sees Kant's thought as an enemy and an ally, especially in the problem of difference. The purpose of this article is to discuss the main points in which Deleuze sees Kant's thought as an enemy and an ally, especially in the problem of difference. The approach will be concentrated in the work Difference and Repetition, which houses the main discussions to develop the question of how Deleuze takes Kantian philosophy as an enemy, but which must be explored until the moment in which it finds itself strange. This is a procedure typical of the Deleuzian method of "subverting" the thoughts of philosophers that are taken, in the first place, as philosophies to be explored to the maximum extent. In this case, the subversion of Kantianism consists in assuming it as the inaugurator of the thought of representation in modernity with the creation of the ground in the transcendental; to expose the insufficiency of this thought when thematizing difference; and explore the reversal of time promoted by Kant, as one of the greatest contributions to the problem of difference in thought. The aim of this article is to reconstruct the distinction, central to Kant's pre-critical philosophy, between necessary natural order and contingent natural order, which is essential for defining the concept of order and understanding the specificity from which Kant situates the difference between the organic and the inorganic during this period. It is argued that, in relation to the latter, this distinction is more suited to the context and intentions of the philosopher. This differentiation is explicitly presented in 1763 in The only possible argument in support of a demonstration of the existence of God, but, as it is argued, it was already outlined in 1755 in the Universal natural history and theory of the heavens, the work whose analysis the article begins with. For this reason, the aforementioned distinction serves as both the starting point, in 1755, and the point of arrival, in 1763. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

BIBLICAL translations , *PHILOSOPHERS , *PROTESTANTISM , *LOGIC , *STOICISM , *ETHICS - Abstract
The text "Stoicism" is a review of G. Stock's book, which addresses Stoic philosophy. The author highlights the influence of Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle on the Stoic school, as well as mentioning the Anglo-Saxon view of Aristotelian Protestantism. The text criticizes the author's generalizing approach, which does not consider the particularities of each period and philosopher. Stoic ethics, logic, and physics are discussed, as well as the relationship of Stoicism with the Bible and the criticism of the translation of Greek terms. [Extracted from the article]

PHILOSOPHERS - Abstract
This article deals with the relationship and interconnection between philosophia and phrónêsis in Epicurus' doctrine. The study aims, first, to highlight the meaning and function that each of the wisdoms assumes in epicurean thought and, second, to insert itself and contribute to the scientific debate about a supposed hierarchy existing between them, as stated by the philosopher in the Letter to Menoeceus. We argue in favor of the hierarchy (the primacy of phrónêsis) and present some reasons that support this interpretation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PHILOSOPHERS , *VIRTUE , *VIRTUES , *DIALECTIC , *HYPOTHESIS - Abstract
In the Meno, the dialectician is the one who is able to discern between true and false opinions. Following this reasoning, it could be argued that the dialectician is the only one capable of teaching virtue (political virtue). However, the dialogue does not allow us to make this assertion, as it concludes by stating that virtue is not knowledge (89c-100c), and therefore, cannot be taught (98d). As Socrates emphasizes, to know whether virtue is knowledge, one must first investigate "what is virtue?" (100b), which does not occur in this aporetic work. Dialectics emerges in the dialogue as the art of discourse, to mark its opposition to eristic, which is characterized by refutation. The difference between the two arts is that dialectics assumes a more positive, methodological perspective of knowledge construction, in contrast to sophistic antilogic. Although the Forms are not yet present, at least explicitly, in the discussion, the dialogue introduces the method of hypothesis, which will enable the philosopher, more than the sophist, to achieve knowledge of the foundations (98a). The aim is to analyze the sexual and political freedom of women in the British Enlightenment through an investigation of the writings of Bernard Mandeville and Delarivier Manley. The first is presented as a thinker who differs profoundly from most of the philosophers of the republic of letters, in terms of the analyses and observations generally attributed to the female sex, since he recognizes the inequality between the sexes as artificial. The second, also starting from a consideration of artificial inequalities, provides a key to understanding the power dynamics that exist between the sexes and the different consequences of such dynamics for reputation. The aim of this research is not only to show how women were subordinated in the Age of Enlightenment, but also to explain how this dynamic was maintained in such a refined era. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PUBLIC sphere , *HISTORIANS , *RENAISSANCE , *HUMANISTS , *AGITATION (Psychology) - Abstract
The restlessness characterizing this inquiry stems from the suspicion that the Renaissance period, renowned for the flourishing of science, art, and culture, humanist thinkers, and a philosophy centered around political freedom, may have offered little, if anything, to women. In philosophy, delving into the political discourse of the period reveals a discussion that takes the idea of equality as a prerequisite for contemplating political freedom. Indeed, debates around republicanism largely revolved around the extent of popular participation. However, these realms of discussion seemingly bypass the issue of the inclusion of women in any aspect of the public sphere. Women's demands could not even be framed in the same terms as the characteristic debates of the period. Drawing on the theoretical framework of Renaissance historian Margaret King, the aim is to glimpse the issues specific to the period from the perspective of women. In this sense, the objective of this work is to investigate to what extent the period recognized in philosophy as the Renaissance facilitated (or not) the inclusion of women in the public sphere and philosophical discourse. We will explore these questions based on the philosophical inquiries made by Christine de Pizan (1364-1430) in her work 'The City of Ladies', especially through the denunciation of a univocal voice against women. This investigation spans the Renaissance period until we reach the writings of Arcangela Tarabotti (1604-1652) and her treatise titled 'Patriarchal Tyranny.' [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The dossier "Women in Philosophy" addresses the presence of women in the history of philosophy, highlighting the invisibility of female philosophers over time. The movement to recover women philosophers is gaining strength, with researchers interested in studying and valuing their contributions. The text presents reflections on female philosophers from the Renaissance, British Enlightenment, anarchism and black feminism, as well as discussing intersectionality and the radical democratization of academic philosophy in Brazil. FEMALE friendship , *ABORTION , *COLONIZATION , *WITCHCRAFT , *PHILOSOPHERS - Abstract
The century of the essay was the century of colonization and the burning of thousands of European and non-European women. According to philosopher and historian Silvia Federici, among the women accused of witchcraft were those who shared a subversive friendship, either as a way of allying and resisting the arbitrary violence of their husbands and patriarchal society, or as a complicity between women who had abortions, spontaneously or not, against the state imperative to procreate. If the essay, as a genre, was born associated with friendship, with Montaigne, what would it be like to think of another genealogy of the essay, as a genre that was born from the subversive friendship of these women who were burned as "witches" for making a non-rational and non-Western use of language, such as, for example, talking to the snake? Aristoxenus of Tarentum (375-335 BC) was one of Aristotle’s most important students. He was best known for his treatises on musical theory, including the Elements of Harmonic Theory. However, Aristoxenus was also notable as a great author of biographies of personalities such as Pythagoras, Archytas, Socrates and Plato. Unfortunately, only fragments of these works have reached us. However, from reading these fragments we can derive very interesting information about the biographies of these philosophers and the way they were portrayed in Antiquity. Furthermore, we can also reach some conclusions about Aristoxenus’ position regarding Socratic-Platonic theories. In this paper I will discuss the information contained in the fragments of biographies that Aristoxenus wrote about Socrates and Plato and what would be his point of view on these authors would be. CRITICAL thinking , *PLAGIARISM , *PHILOSOPHERS , *ANCIENT philosophy , *SUSPICION - Abstract
The aim of the paper is to answer to the following question: was Plato a plagiarist of the Pythagoreans? The suspicion arises from an old tradition according to which Plato is accused of having plagiarized a supposed work currently lost of Philolaus of Croton. The Timaeus was taken as object of analysis in order to verify the existence of passages that could suggest this kind of activity. To this purpose, it was done a mapping of the main “Pythagorean” theories identifiable in the Timaeus, based on a review of the history of critical thinking. It was concluded that, undeniably, there is an explicit reference to the Pythagoreanism in the platonic work, which, however, does not constitute plagiarism, but rather can be better be understood as a Pythagorean influence, since Plato ends up transposing “Pythagorean” theories – as well as those of other Presocratic philosophers – for his own philosophical purposes. COMMUNICATIVE action , *SOCIAL impact , *ACTION theory (Psychology) , *INDIVIDUAL needs , *PHILOSOPHERS - Abstract
This study aims to highlight the importance of the communication and the truth as instruments of legitimate consensus, capable of transforming conflicts and making them mechanisms capable of giving new meaning to behavior. Therefore, the mediation will be highlighted as an adequate methodology, as it privileges the dialogue and the construction of solutions, embodied in individual interests and needs, which arise from the human relationships. The theory of communicative action, developed by philosopher and sociologist Jürgen Habermas, will be used in order to analyze the validity claims of speech and distinguish communicative action from strategic action, admitting, however, points of convergence, which justify the cooperation as the best strategy for mutual gains, with consequences for the social pacification. ARTISTIC creation , *GENRE studies , *PHILOSOPHERS , *CONSCIOUSNESS , *AUTHORS - Abstract
The aim of this paper is to investigate how Portuguese writer José Saramago's essayistic writing approaches the theories on the essay genre developed by philosopher Michel de Montaigne. Saramago's connection with Montaigne appears throughout Saramago's work and, for this reason, it will be necessary to take a panoramic view of his ideas, tracing a path that leads to the novel Manual de Pintura e Caligrafia (1977). The aim is to discuss the signs of the essayistic bias, that is, that type of writing which is conscious of the writer's craft and the act of writing and which reveals this consciousness in the writing itself, in a metalinguistic way, because it focuses on the construction of literary creation. Saramago builds a reflection intrinsic to his writing that makes the writer discuss, deeply and seriously, the craft and responsibility of dealing with words, rehearsing an attempt to understand the world that surrounds him and how he surrounds the world, while at the same time composing his prose fiction. STANDARD language , *SEMIOTICS , *MYTH , *SPHERES , *PHILOSOPHERS , *SPANISH literature - Abstract
This article aims to make a brief semiotic analysis of the relationship between myth and literary language and between reality and fictionality. To do this, we will take as an example the legend of the "firecracker" that appears in one of the most important novels by the Spanish writer and philosopher Miguel de Unamuno, Niebla (1914). We believe that this is an exemplary case, because the legend or myth contacted by one of the characters within the plot acts in the novel in several ways: by proposing a reading key for one of the central problems of the novel - namely the relationship of domination and resistance between the male and female spheres -, by metalinguistically dialecting the relationship between the structure of the myth and the structure of the literary text and by interposing other layers of meaning in the form of a distancing that can be understood, at first, as the pedagogical function of the myth. This is an informative review of the Brazilian edition of a youth work by the Polish sociologist and philosopher Zygmunt Bauman. In the book in focus, the author addresses hermeneutics and its importance for the human and social sciences, dedicating ten essays to problems in the social sciences that challenge authors in whose thinking the hermeneutic element is identified. Thus, authors such as Dilthey, Weber, Heidegger, Schütz are analysed in their contributions to the theme. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PHILOSOPHERS , *JUSTICE - Abstract
The article proposes to verify if it is possible to derive a theory of justice in Axel Honneth's thought. For this the question that guides this text is: how to normatively and socially ground a theory of justice in Axel Honneth's thought? The thesis to be defended is that it is possible to derive a theory of the experience of injustice from Honneth's thought, since his theoretical development allows us to identify experiences of non-recognition that lead to the development of social struggles. Therefore, we intend to show how there is a normative insufficiency in the philosopher's theory here analyzed. In order to achieve this objective, we propose to follow this path: we will star by making a brief resumption of Honneth's argumentative path, then we will to analyze the normative referrals proposed by the philosopher, to in the third moment think about justice as a relational greatness, at that moment bringing Rainer Forst's theory into the discussion. In the fourth moment we propose to think about the role of law in Honneth's thought. We will finalize with the presentation of our final considerations proposing that Honneth develops a theory of experiences of injustices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this work, we analyze the stoic parrhesia under the Foucaultian gaze. Our analysis is primarily focused on the works of the last Foucault, produced in the last five years of his life, between 1980 and 1984, to which we bring the contribution of excerpts from the works of the Stoic philosophers Epictetus and Seneca. Preliminarily, we start from the concept of parrhesia left by Foucault, which, in addition to being the speech of truth with specific requirements, it is always focused by him as an instrument of care for oneself and others, and from it we extract the three types of parrhesia analyzed by Foucault, the political parrhesia, the philosophical parrhesia and the political-philosophical parrhesia, although we disagree with the existence of a purely philosophical parrhesia, since it has always been linked to politics, therefore, it is, in fact, political-philosophical parrhesia. Within the political-philosophical parrhesia, that practiced by the cynic-stoics stands out, a category exemplified by Foucault in the life of the philosopher Demetrius and explained by his analysis of the praise of cynicism made by Epictetus of Hierapolis in his Discourse 3.22, which was, in short, a life mission given by the Divinity which, for both the Cynics and the Stoics, was Nature itself or the Cosmos as a whole. ORAL interpretation , *PHILOSOPHICAL literature , *PHILOSOPHERS , *INVENTIONS , *PHILOSOPHY of education - Abstract
This article aims to narrow down how literary reading can catalyze education through experience. To this end, it uses as a theoretical-methodological tool the problematization based on the studies of Michel Foucault (2006). Article writing is developed in three moments. In the first moment, based on the writings of Jorge Larrosa (2009, 2011, 2016), it approaches the concept of experience and pays attention to what can prevent it. In the second moment, it focuses on studies undertaken by Michel Foucault (2009, 2010, 2013) to tension the experience as that which can both constitute the subject and de-subjectivize it. Finally, a dialogue is established with works produced by the two philosophers mentioned, paying attention to the power that literary reading has to catalyze experiences in those who read. The exercise of thought that this article proposes is strengthened by the interlocutions that are established in it between philosophical references and literary works of different genres and times. It is hoped that the writing of this article will find other teachers and researchers in the educational field, provoking them to ally themselves with philosophy and literature in the invention of other ways of thinking and experiencing education that are not only scientific. POLITICAL philosophy , *JUSTICE , *PHILOSOPHERS , *CIVIL society , *JOURNALISTS , *PRACTICAL politics - Abstract
The article discusses the book "Hume, Justice, and Modern Political Thought," written by Maria Isabel Limongi and published by Editora Alameda in 2023. The book presents a new perspective on the philosopher David Hume, highlighting his understanding of the concept of justice as a historical, social, and political process. The author analyzes Hume's work in relation to other philosophers and commentators, such as Rawls, and highlights five key moments that reveal the importance of Hume's thinking in the formation of modern political thought. The book also discusses the relationship between the social, the political, and the legal, and how Hume introduces the concept of civil society as a starting point for politics. MYTHOLOGY , *PHILOSOPHERS , *METAPHYSICS , *ANTHROPOLOGY , *TRANSVERSAL lines - Abstract
This is a biased reading towards the communication of Cannibal Metaphysics: elements for a post-structural anthropology, a work in which Eduardo Viveiros de Castro thinks about the return of (Amerindian) philosophy to the center of the anthropological stage. In it, the author rereads the Mythologies of Claude Lévi-Strauss through Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari, so that this article mainly analyzes this philosophy of immanence and virtuality through these philosophers, but also the influences of Roy Wagner, Gregory Bateson and Henri Bergson. The objective is to give shape to ontological communication in moments of aberrancy and violent encounter with the sign, fundamental to understanding its transversal anthropology and its criticisms of transcendent philosophies of communication, always an interpretative risk of Amerindian perspectivism. SCIENCE education , *RESEARCH personnel , *PHYSICAL education , *TEACHERS , *PHILOSOPHERS - Abstract
This essay aims to reflect on the (im)possibilities of a plural scientific education within Brazilian Physical Education. To this end, it makes comments, divided into two sessions, on the chances of constituting a scientific (physical) education in Brazil using, mainly, the contributions of the French philosopher Jacques Rancière. It is believed, in a conclusive tone, that it is essential to transmit pluralist practices and principles to researchers in training. This transmission does not only take place from a teleological journey that has a beginning and an end, but also from provocative acts and the consideration of present experiences that even dialogue with PE professionals and teachers. In this sense, it is necessary to reiterate, more and more, the need to defend a scientific (physical) education that is emancipatory and pluralistic, that makes the student think for himself, under the guidance of a teacher. The article points out how Rodrigo Naves’ critical method incorporates and revises aspects of the philosopher José Arthur Giannotti’s thought. To this end, it highlights how ideas from Giannotti’s Trabalho e reflexão (1983) about the representation of social phenomena are elaborated in two essays on Alberto da Veiga Guignard: “O olhar difuso” (1986) and “O Brasil no ar: Guignard” (1996), the latter included in the book A forma difícil (1996). RELIGIONS , *PHILOSOPHERS - Abstract
This text seeks to analyse the configuration of the modern individual and their key characteristics as an autonomous agent, much as their segmentations as either person and subject, within the framework of the theory of departure from religion or the disenchantment of the world, developed by the French philosopher Marcel Gauchet. At first, we shall present some aspects that have propelled the emergence of the modern individual and the main traits defining them. Subsequently, we shall explore the key notions which encompass the concept of "person" and its correlations with the unfoldings arising from the actions of the individual. Finally, we examine the position of the modern subject as a result of interconnected development and social affirmations tied to the ways and procedures of the individual and of the person, besides their implications being vectors of the historical process of departure from religion. This article is a reflection on the riverine space of the São Sebastião community in the Resex Mapuá-Breves- PA, and its relationship with the house, the forest and the river, having as basis of data collection the field book and the ethnographic research. Guided by the theoretical prism offered by post-structuralist philosophers and anthropologists such as Deleuze, Guattari, Pierre Bourdieu and Roy Wagner, I present the riverine space with a complex space and superimposed on the other, an open world, unfixed, bustling and dynamic, a riverine territory created and/or invented as a body without organs. This article will address the representation of childhood during the first Industrial Revolution that occurred in the Victorian Era in England, between 1760 and 1840, through the works of Charles Dickens, Oliver Twist (1837) and A Christmas Carol (1943). To this end, the studies of the German political philosopher and Marxist sociologist Friedrich Engels will be used to elucidate what was happening in British territory during this period and how the Industrial Revolution reconstructed the reality of what became the English proletariat. Next, the issues relating to the working conditions faced by children who worked in factories will be highlighted. Then, there will be a brief presentation by the author Charles Dickens and immediately after the analysis of the literary works Oliver Twist and A Christmas Carol will be discussed. This study consists of a review and analysis of materials, such as books and scientific articles, in order to acquire information and knowledge about Paul Natorp's Social Pedagogy. Natorp (1854-1924) was a German philosopher and pedagogue, considered one of the founders of the Marburg School. He was an advocate of social pedagogy, which emphasizes the importance of education in shaping a more just and equal society. His most well-known work is "Sozialpädagogik," published in 1905, in which he argues that education is a means of social and cultural transformation. The main objective of this study is to present the philosophical principles of Natorp's social pedagogy. The content provided is the result of analyses that delve deeper into Natorp's theories on Social Pedagogy, based on Plato and Pestalozzi. It is a qualitative bibliographic study that encourages the adoption of social education practices in connection with Natorp's concept of education. As a result, it is essential to build an ethical exercise that goes beyond the norms taught in schools. Thus, social pedagogy is defined as a notion that encourages examination and socializes possibilities so that everyone can see more and better than they wish to perceive. In summary, this study argues that education belongs to individuals who work together to create a more just, diverse, and socially just society. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PSYCHOANALYSIS , *PHILOSOPHERS , *SELF , *HERMENEUTICS , *DISCOURSE - Abstract
To answer the distinct question that Foucault addresses to psychoanalysis in his 1982 course - would it correspond to the demands of the care of the self (epiméleia heautoû)? -, we proceed by a logical approximation between the structures of the subject's conception exposed in his speech, in The Hermeneutics of the Subject, and in the discourse of Lacan, in The Instance of the Letter in the Unconscious or Reason Since Freud. The purpose of the manuscript aims to continue with an unfinished problematization on the part of the French philosopher and to resonate in psychoanalysis a work that still does not have a great reception in the medium. FRANKFURT school of sociology , *NEUROSES , *PSYCHOANALYSIS , *PHILOSOPHERS , *ETIOLOGY of diseases - Abstract
In the "Introductory Lectures on Psychoanalysis" (1916-1917), Freud argues for the fundamental participation of regression in the etiology of both neurosis and perversion. In "Fetishism" (1927), the author formulates a new version of this concept, so that the characteristics of fetishism came to represent the general structure of all perversions. In 1938, Adorno, a philosopher and sociologist from the Frankfurt school, published his essay "On the Fetish-Character in Music and the Regression of Listening," in which he approaches both concepts from a sociological perspective. Our objective here is to comparatively analyze how the concepts of fetishism and regression are defined and employed by the two authors and to discuss the influence of Freud's theory on Adorno, based on the texts mentioned above. This subject is rarely explored in the literature of the field, thus its discussion can contribute to a better understanding of the concepts and the impact of their different interpretations. PSYCHOANALYSIS , *AESTHETICS of art , *PHILOSOPHERS , *AESTHETICS , *ETHICS - Abstract
This article aims to think that the writing of a clinical case in psychoanalysis needs to consider the aesthetic and political elements to remain accurate regarding the ethics of psychoanalysis. To this end, we will make approximations between the concept of the Unconscious of Sigmund Freud and the Aesthetic Unconscious, proposed by the French philosopher Jacques Rancière. Thus, first we will present a brief presentation on the aesthetic unconscious and psychoanalysis. In a second moment, we will present Rancière's notes on aesthetics and promote possible articulations between the philosopher and Freud, from what they conceptualize about the unconscious. Finally, we will consider how the clinical case can be observed from this perspective that we propose, of investigating about the articulations between the Unconscious and the Aesthetic Unconscious. The purpose of this article is to investigate the problem of words in the work De magistro by Saint Augustine. The intriguing question of this work arises from the premise of the cognitive ineffectiveness of the word in the meaning and ostension of the thing, postulated by the philosopher of Hippo. For this reason, a hermeneutic was made on the role of the word in the context of the communication of knowledge in the aforementioned work. When understanding the insufficiency of the word while involved in cognitive activity, the value of the word as an admonishing stimulus linked to memory is discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
