Occupational diseases are characterized by diseases produced or unleashed by the professional exercise peculiar to a given activity. Even though they are present in work environments, these workers cannot always identify the risk factors or even the diseases to which they are exposed. In this sense, this paper aims to report the experience of a group of researchers during the execution of extension activities through worker health education actions to prevent occupational diseases. To this end, an Instagram account was created, where informative posts and news on topics related to Occupational Medicine were periodically shared. In addition, through the Family Health Strategy (FHS) Units, didactic and interactive lectures were offered to the working population, and distribution folders addressing the central occupational diseases. At the end of the project, the Instagram profile reached 717 followers. Thirty-three publications were made, which were reposted in stories and reached a total of 7544 views. In addition, lectures were given in the waiting room of 24 FHS, reaching 210 people. With this, it was possible to consider that the execution of the extension project was successful because it contributed to the dissemination and expansion of workers' knowledge about occupational diseases resulting from work. Background: Records from occupations of workers in information systems mean much more than just sociodemographic data. In Occupational Medicine and Occupational Health Epidemiology, they are especially relevant as they indicate possible occupational risk factors. Objective: To estimate quality indicators of the record of occupation of asbestos-related diseases in the Mortality Information System (SIM), Brazil. Method: Cross-sectional study, conducted with death records of people over 16 years of age, registered in SIM, from 2000 to 2016, with diagnoses of asbestos-related diseases (ARD): mesothelioma, asbestosis, and pleural plaques. The “occupation” field was analyzed for completeness and consistency. Results: From a total of 3,764 death records, for which 60.3% (n=2,268) of missed/inconsistent occupation records were observed. Invalid occupation data accounted for 40.1% (n=1,508), mainly filled with “retired” or “housewives”, not recognized as formal job titles. The poor occupancy record quality among ARD records was over 50.0% in all regions of the country. Conclusions: The quality of the occupation records in SIM was poor for both ARD and other diagnoses, especially regarding the completeness and consistency of the data, in relation to the Brazilian Classification of Occupations. Objective: To describe the working conditions, illness and nursing coping in the COVID-19 pandemic in a Brazilian capital. Methods: This is a descriptive, cross-sectional study with a quantitative approach. Data were collected between August and September 2021, online. The analysis was performed using BioEstat 5.0, with descriptive and analytical statistical techniques from Pearson's chi-square test and Fisher's exact test, with the Odds Ratio being adequate for the variables in which there was a linked association. Results: Of the 121 study participants, 106 were female and more than 50% had two jobs. 102 professionals reported salaries earned due to the complexity of the work performed and 46 indicated precarious conditions for professional practice. A statistical association was found regarding the guidelines on how to inspect with masks N95 / PFF2 or equivalent (p = 0.017; OR = 0.31; 95% CI = 0.13-0.77) and the relative variable of professionals who are already associated students of COVID-19 and/or had a confirmed diagnosis (p = 0.047; OR = 0.43; 95% CI = 0.20-0.93). Conclusion: This study points to the need for better organization and working conditions in health services so that nursing professionals must provide quality care. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper investigates in which circumstances the contamination by the new coronavirus can be considered as an accident at work in Brazil, generating the legal effects resulting from this equation. The deductive method was used, as a method of approach, for the central bibliographic research of the present work combined with the method of qualitative analysis procedure for the study of judgments. The research was subdivided into: the study of the concept of typical work accident provided for in the caput of article 19 of Law n. 8.213/1991 and the hypotheses of labor accident by equivalence provided for in articles 20 and 21 of the same Law, among them, the occupational disease genre and its two species: occupational disease and occupational disease; the decision of the Federal Supreme Court handed down on the occasion of the judgment of Direct Actions of unconstitutionality n. 6342, 6344, 6345, 6346, 6348, 6349 and 6352, which determined the suspension of the effectiveness of article 29 of Provisional Measure 927/2020, which limited the possibility of recognizing covid-19 as an occupational disease, except upon proof of the causal link; Finally, the practical effect of the aforementioned decision was observed, using the dialectical method based on the qualitative study of two judicial processes of great national repercussion, as a result of the research, it was mapped that in only one of the cases covid-19 was equated with the work accident., in this way the understanding of the causal nexus is an essential element for this configuration. SARS-CoV-2 , *EPIDEMIOLOGY , *OCCUPATIONAL exposure , *COVID-19 - Abstract
Background: Covid-19 is the disease caused by coronavirus-2 of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS-Cov-2) recognized as a pandemic with community transmission in Brazil. Knowing the potential occupational exposure and transmission mechanisms are essentials to define preventive and protective strategies. Objective: This article presents a proposal to systematize the recognition, characterization and notification of covid-19 as a work-related disease (WDR). Method: Literature review on the subject to systematize the qualitative assessment of occupational risks and the potential relationship between covid-19 and work. Results: A matrix was proposed indicating that covid-19 can be: presumably workrelated for high or very high exposure to the virus; probably work-related for medium exposure; or possibly work-related for lower exposure to the virus. Conclusion: The characterization and notification of work-related covid-19 in the information systems allows the analysis of the epidemiological profile, which is essential to plan actions of comprehensive health care for workers, and to contribute to the inseparability between assistance and health surveillance. The technological transition underway in sugarcane hydroagricultural in the Administrative Region of Presidente Prudente, as part of the productive restructuring of capital, materializes through intense mechanization of cutting and planting and based on the chemical-dependent model. The impact on workers' and collective health, accidents at work, occupational diseases, and environmental damage, they also reach their sphere of representation, that is, the Rural Workers 'Unions and the Rural Employees' Unions. The territorial reorganization caused by the expansion of sugarcane hydroagricultural has amplified social contradictions in a territory historically marked by land conflicts, which motivates us to establish correlations between the workers' health-illness process, the forms of resistance and the struggles carried out by the STR's and SER's in the context of the class struggle in that territory. Thus, through qualitative and quantitative methodological procedures, we seek to understand how the organization / representation (political, economic and ideological) of workers has been affected in the region and the impacts on labor relations in the cane fields. Objective: To evaluate the frequency of occupational hazards and the criteria for their prevention among Iranian dentists. Material and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 187 general dentists in Kerman. The data collection tool was a questionnaire including personal information (gender, age, marital status, condition and place and years of employment, and the average of weekly working hours) and a valid and reliable questionnaire of occupational hazards, including 24 questions about occupational hazards (6 domain) and nine questions about criteria for the prevention of the risks of dentistry. The t-test, chi-square, and linear regression were used. Results: 92 (49.2%) were men. The mean and standard deviation of the score of occupational hazards was 27.04±16.21 out of 96, and the criteria of prevention were 22.00±7.28 out of 36. Regression analysis showed significant correlations between single statuses, years of occupational and type of employment, weekly work hours and occupational hazards, participation in occupational injury identification courses, and hepatitis vaccination. In addition, there were significant correlations between gender, age, weekly work hours, and preventive measures. Moreover, 3.2% of dentists were in a high-risk group and 26.2% were weak in preventive measures. Conclusion: A total of 32.6% of dentists are at moderate risk of occupational hazards, and 10.7% meet the prevention criteria properly. It is recommended to hold training classes to identify occupational hazards and the criteria for their prevention among dentists.

HAZARDOUS substances , *WORK-related injuries , *STATISTICAL hypothesis testing , *OCCUPATIONAL diseases , *COMPULSORY education , *READING comprehension - Abstract
Given that knowledge of hazardous substance pictograms is fundamental in the promotion of attitudes to minimize impacts on health and the environment, this study was carried out with the following aims: i) to assess the level of comprehension of hazardous substance pictograms, as defined by Professional Higher Technical Course students at a higher education institution; ii) to understand the way the training strategy that was followed with the students contributed to a conceptual change in the interpretation of hazardous substance pictograms, and; iii) to underline the importance of hazardous substance pictogram comprehension in minimizing the risk of environmental, workplace accidents and occupational disease. Comprehension of these pictograms by 669 students was assessed before and after training on the subject. Data analysis by a pictogram, as a function of the area of training, age and having, or not, the status of student worker or not, was performed through descriptive statistics tools and hypothesis testing. The average level of correct understanding of the pictograms after training (61.19%) was higher than observed before training (30.75%). Training on chemical hazards is essential for the improvement of understanding of the corresponding pictograms and should be valued and addressed in school curricula beginning with mandatory education and continuing through to the higher education level. ABSTRACT We conducted an integrative literature review of published studies on pesticide and cancer exposure, focusing on farmers, rural population, pesticide applicators, and rural workers. The Medline/PubMed was used as searching database. After the retrieval, 74 articles were selected according to pre-established criteria, which design involved 39 case-controls, 32 cohorts, 2 ecological ones, and 1 cross-sectional. Among them, 64 studies showed associations between pesticides and cancer while 10 did not find any significant association. The studies found 53 different types of pesticides significantly associated with at least one type of cancer and 19 different types of cancers linked to at least one type of pesticide. Although few studies presented contradictory results, the sole fact of being a farmer or living near crops or high agricultural areas have also been used as a proxy for pesticide exposure and significantly associated with higher cancer risk. The literature well illustrates the case of prostate cancer, Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, leukemia, multiple myeloma, bladder and colon cancers. Studies are recommended to further investigate the relationship between pesticide and neoplasm of testis, breast, esophagus, kidney, thyroid, lip, head and neck, and bone.

Introduction: Given the increasing use of electronic devices, and the increasing number of complaints with its use, we intend to evaluate the prevalence of manifestations of dry eye and ocular fatigue in a population of individuals, who use the computer daily to perform all their professional tasks, as well as to correlate these complaints with the number of hours of digital use as well as their possible improvement with behavioural measures and use of tear drops. Material and Methods: A total of 77 individuals (154 eyes) were evaluated on two separate days with a 1-month interval. They completed two questionnaires: OSDI and PEG Eye Fatigue. An objective ocular surface assessment was performed: Schirmer test without anesthetic, DR-1a Dry Eye Monitor™, hyperemia evaluation, lacrimal break up, presence of keratitis and lesions in the conjunctiva, as well as near accommodation point and near convergence point. After the first evaluation, the subjects were divided into two groups: group A (< 2 hours of computer working) and group B (> 2 hours of computer working). Some environmental measures to reduce complaints and recommendation of use of artificial tears were explained to the latter. Results: There was a statistically significant difference in the majority of the parameters evaluated in the group B, in relation to the morning period (group A) - tear film (p = 0.032), hyperemia (p < 0.001), BUT (p < 0.001), keratitis (p < 0.001), conjunctival lesion (p = 0.002) and accommodation point (p < 0.001). In the evaluation – one month later - there were no statistically significant differences in any of the parameters analysed in the group A, and in group B there was a decrease in most parameters at the end of that period - Schirmer test (p = 0.005), lacrimal film (p = 0.022), keratitis (p < 0.001), conjunctival lesion (p = 0.005) and fatigue score (p < 0.001). Discussion: It was thus possible to show the appearance of ocular fatigue and ocular surface changes with prolonged use of computers (> 2 hours) as well as a significant improvement in symptomatology (subjective assessment) as well as of ocular surface changes (objective evaluation) with the implementation of postural measures, regular breaks and use of lubricants. This is the first study, to the best of our knowledge, of digital asthenopia in which, in addition to the subjective evaluation, the presence of ocular surface modifications (objective assessment) were evaluated and the respective improvement with the aforementioned ergophthalmological measures were evaluated. Conclusion: This survey highlights the increased overall level of awareness that we need to have to face the rapid and wide-scale changes driven by the emergence of digital technology and, more particularly, its impact on user’s vision and posture. We concluded that the longer we use the electronic devices (more than two hours) the more severe the complaints and rates of ocular surface changes are. Environmental and ocular strategies can attenuate or even eliminate the discomfort caused by this syndrome, and increase professional performance and quality of life.

COVID-19 , *OCCUPATIONAL diseases , *INDUSTRIAL safety , *EMPLOYERS' liability , *PANDEMICS - Abstract
The theme of the employer's civil responsibility is discussed when employees are infected with Covid-19, especially with regard to obligations due to labor insurance. Current qualitative and theoretical research, based on doctrine, law and jurisprudence, deals with the importance of complying to labor insurance during the pandemic, investigated as a prevention method for the solution of labor conflicts. Research has identified the effects of acknowledging Covid-19 as an occupational disease. Results show that the acknowledgement of Covid-19 as an occupational disease provides greater juridical safety to employees, or rather, the applications of prevention methods may hinder the judicialization of labor suits e avoid economic liabilities to the employer. ABSTRACT Reducing engine speed and pressure of forest machine hydraulic pumps may be a strategy to achieve a reduction in fuel costs. However, this approach can positively or negatively affect the ergonomic parameters of the operators, in particular, the whole-body vibration and repetitive movements of the operators. The objective of this research was to evaluate the acceleration force resulting from normalized exposure (Aren) and the Real Occupancy Rate and Maximum Occupancy Rate considering Repetitive Activities (ROR-MORCRA) of forwarder operating at different pump pressures, engine speed, and volume of trees. The research was carried out in forest stands with an individual average volume of 0.10, 0.14, and 0.29 m³ tree-1. For each volume, the machine was configured to operate at hydraulic pump pressures of 240, 235, and 230 bar and engine speed of 1550, 1475, and 1400 rpm, totaling 9 combinations. The values were measured in the 9 combinations and also in each phase of the machine operational cycle, using a triaxial accelerometer of the 01dB brand, model Vib 008. To determine ROR, percentage of rest due to regular breaks, percentage of time with low demand activities, percentage of usual irregular breaks, and percentage of very short breaks were calculated. To estimate MORCRA, the repetition, strength, and static effort factors were calculated. In volumes of 0.10, 0.14, and 0.29 m³ tree-1, the highest Aren values were 0.82, 0.88, and 0.99 m s-2, respectively, being obtained at the 1550 rpm engine speed. The forwarder logging operation is characterized as an ergonomic risk, which can cause discomfort, fatigue, and injuries to operators.

SMALL-scale fisheries , *HYPERTENSION , *MUSCLE injuries , *BACKACHE - Abstract
In Brazil, artisanal fishermen are almost one registered people and carry out their work activities exposed to serious occupational risks, and without health protection. This article aimed to analyze the work conditions, and their relationship with artisanal fishermen's health in Curuçá municipality, Pará state. The analysis method was based on questionnaires directed with questions about the interviewees' socioeconomic data, living and working conditions, and determinants associated with personal life, such as age and sex, in addition to on-the-spot observations. As a result, fishermen are, for the most part (68%), of older age, over 41 years old. 93% of them have not completed elementary school or haven't any education level. The main cause of this is the initiation in artisanal fishing from an early age, 39% reported fishing for more than 31 years. We can conclude that so many years of activity and several hours of daily work expose fishermen to various health problems (such as back pain, skin problems, muscle injuries, high blood pressure, and stress) and, work accidents (animal stings and falls). Health governments are needed to prophylactically support fisheries workers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

HEALTH education , *STATE universities & colleges , *VETERINARY students , *PUBLIC universities & colleges , *PERSONAL protective equipment , *VETERINARY medicine - Abstract
The objective of this work was to evaluate which the mains risks may affect the students of Veterinary Medicine of a public university of Piauí state. The questionnaire application method was used which contained objective questions about the use of personal protective equipamento (PPE's) and the possible injuries suffered. It was observed that 51% (77/150) of students suffered some type of injury during graduation, with the most frequent injuries being accidental representing 73% (56/77), followed by biological 17% (13/77) and chemicals 10 % (8/77). Among accidental injuries, the most frequent were bites and scratches, cuts and perforations, representing 47% (36/77), 20% (15/77) and 6% (5/77) of injuries respectively. Although 100% (150/150) reported using basic PPE's, 71% (106/150) reported never having received guidance or training on the correct use. It's concluded that there was a high incidence of injuries in students of Veterinary Medicine, which demonstrates that occupational risks are a reality in this activity. In addition, it was found that it is necessary to implement health education measures for the proper use of PPE's. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

OCCUPATIONAL diseases , *UNIVERSITIES & colleges , *FISHER exact test , *CHI-squared test , *SYMPTOMS - Abstract
Introduction: The high daily demand to perform the services allied to the carelessness with the job well-being lead to a bad posture at the appointments, causing musculoskeletal problems, pain, and, consequently, occupational diseases. Objective: to evaluate the knowledge of students in the different semesters of the Dentistry course of a Higher Education Institution located in the city of Vitória da Conquista - Bahia, on the ergonomic principles applied to clinical practice, and investigate the symptoms associated with occupational diseases. Methodology: 186 students enrolled in the college clinics were randomly selected and invited to answer two questionnaires, containing questions related to the concept of ergonomics and occupational diseases in dentistry. Pearson's chi-square test was applied; in cases that the expected frequency was less than five (n <5), Fisher's exact test was used (p<0.05). Results: around 69% of the undergraduates demonstrated total unawareness about ergonomics, 87% had little knowledge about occupational diseases in Dentistry, 75% consider the knowledge about ergonomics in college unsatisfactory, and about 76% complained of musculoskeletal pain in at least one anatomical site of their body. Conclusion: the present study demonstrated Dentistry students have little knowledge about this theme and the possible development of musculoskeletal diseases while still in the undergraduate course. Abstract: Background: Occupational diseases are very prevalent in the world, especially in developing countries. Occupational dermatoses are responsible for most of these cases. However, epidemiological studies are rare in Brazil. Objectives: To verify the panorama of occupational skin diseases in Brazil describing frequencies of work-related dermatoses and their sociodemographic and occupational patterns. Methods: We used retrospective data from the Notifiable Diseases Information System, (from 2007-2014) tabulated with the Tab program for Windows - TabWin12. We used intentional non-probability sampling and sequential selection, considering all notified occupational dermatoses. Results: All cases of occupational dermatoses referred to in the period were analyzed (n = 4710). Males and the age group of 35-49 years were the most affected. The most affected body area was the upper limb (34.2%) and the hand (25.4%). The "causative agent" field in the forms was not filled in 69.4% of cases, with chrome as the most prevalent cause reported (11.8%). ICD-10 codes more prevalent were L23, L24, and L25, corresponding to 34.2% of the sample. In total, 29% of patients needed to take a sick leave. No cases evolved to death and there were 0.2% of total as permanent disability. Study limitations: The amount of missing information for various items in the system draws attention. Conclusions: Treatment of patients with occupational dermatitis include the identification and removal of the causative agent and specific treatment of the disease. Diagnosis delay in cases of occupational dermatoses brings social and financial consequences to the work and life of workers.

Introduction: It is well known that musicians are a group prone to suffer from playing-related musculoskeletal disorders. Professional orchestra musicians play for several hours a week and have to fight against pain caused by their profession. The aim of this study was to explore and describe self-reported complaints among professional orchestra musicians and to compare its intensity and the prevalence between string and wind instruments. Material and Methods: Hundred and twelve professional orchestra musicians from the three main professional orchestras from the North of Portugal were individually interviewed about the prevalence and the intensity (measured by verbal numerical scale for pain) of their playing-related musculoskeletal disorders. Results: About two third (62.5%) of the interviewed musicians presented playing-related musculoskeletal disorders during the time of the interview. Despite there are no significant statistic values between groups, results suggested that playing-related musculoskeletal disorders are more common in string players and more intense in wind players. Discussion: Referring to the prevalence of playing-related musculoskeletal disorders, our data is in line with other studies from different countries. More than half of professional orchestra musicians in the North of Portugal are playing with a mild to moderate pain. Conclusion: Future studies focusing on working-related problems among professional orchestra musicians in Portugal would be useful to better describe the problem of occupational diseases among performing artist.

This article analyzes the living and health conditions of workers in coal mines in southern Brazil, especially the diseases and illnesses that affected them. It discusses the emergence of public health and occupational medicine as areas of study and research on the diseases that affected workers, specifically coal miners in Europe and in some countries in Latin America. Through the bibliographic research of authors who researched the workers' occupational health and the reports of doctors who lived and worked in the coal region at that time, the aim is to relate the theoretical discussion to the empirical analysis of the accidents and diseases of coal miners in Brazil. Finally, it analyzes the lawsuit of a mining accident at work in Santa Catarina, demonstrating the clashes that occurred between workers, bosses and work accident insurers in the middle of the 20th century. This article aims to see the continuities and ruptures in the emergence of the ILO in the treatment of occupational risks in Argentina during the two decades after 1915, when Law No. 9,688 on occupational accidents and diseases was passed in the country. In this way, it will be possible to identify to what extent and how the recommendations of this international institution shaped the management of accidents at work in Argentina. For such analysis, the technical documents that emerged from the ILO will be investigated, in dialogue with the new body of legislation that was sanctioned in Argentina until 1936, when the regulation of Law No 9,688 was amended. The main hypothesis of the study is that the ILO promoted a set of preventive policies to reduce occupational risks, which directly, albeit with some lethargy, had an impact on partial regulations of the Argentinian law on accidents at work sanctioned in 1915. The juxtaposition of the international institution's ideas with local legislation led to an extension of the standard coverage provided to workers before this, mainly in reference to the right to compensation when suffering from occupational diseases. This Final Paper proposes an ergonomic and postural analysis of a dairy cooperative located in the city of Itaperuna. Within this scope, the main goal of this study was to analyze the existing ergonomic situation at the cooperative under study. The research method consisted, firstly, of data collection at the company via questionnaires, interviews, photographic records and videos. Later, taking into consideration the data obtained, the OWAS and RULA methods were applied in order to generate a correlation between the movements and positions taken during working hours and the symptoms reported by workers in the proposed questionnaires. Analyzing the questionnaire responses, it was found that 82.1% of employees can be classified as suffering severe fatigue. The tools used for postural assessment, OWAS and RULA, reported the need for corrections in performing some tasks. Thus, measures are proposed in order to reduce the incidence of employee health disorders and, consequently, to increase the organization’s profitability.
