With the proliferation of research in recent decades, pronunciation has ceased to be the “Cinderella” of language teaching. However, there are still gaps between research findings and classroom implementations (Olson, 2014). To this end, this classroom-based, experimental study explored pronunciation knowledge, perception, and production among first-year Turkish EFL teacher trainees in the context of a sixteen-week-long undergraduate course. Data were collected through three diagnostic tests. In this regard, eighty participants were pretested before and post-tested after the course. The collected data were examined descriptively and inferentially via the IBM SPPS Version 25. Findings indicated dissimilar levels of rise in knowledge (modest), perception (slight), and production (substantial) performances of teacher trainees. Nevertheless, specific gaps in knowledge and problems with segmental and suprasegmental pronunciation features remained. Results were discussed, pedagogical implications were thoroughly assessed, limitations to the study were recognized, and recommendations for future research were made.

Rapid advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) have the potential to be revolutionary, but they have also sparked questions about power relations and socioeconomic inequalities that are reminiscent of previous colonial practices. The risk of “techno-neocolonialism,” a phrase used to characterize the potential for dominance and exploitation analogous to historical colonial practices, is juxtaposed with the possibility of unprecedented technological advancements. This paper examines the idea of techno-neocolonialism as a modern form of dominance and exploitation, emphasizing how the AI revolution runs the risk of sustaining these practices in a globalized environment. Through an analysis of vital AI enablers like talent, data, infrastructure, and computing power, we contend that the advantages of AI are frequently centered in rich countries, marginalizing the Global South. The paper goes on to stress how important it is that cooperative frameworks give equity, respect for one another, and ethical issues top priority while developing AI. This study, which ends with a plea for fair collaborations, seeks to show the way toward a more inclusive AI ecosystem that actually empowers all parties involved while avoiding the exploitation traps that come with techno-neocolonial partnerships.

The progressive increase in HIV infection among older adults requires constant research and monitoring, given that geriatric syndromes associated with HIV comorbidities have become an important public health problem. We reported this systematic review according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA), and it has a central question: Is the incidence of cognitive impairment higher in older patients living with HIV than in their seronegative peers? The following databases were searched for this review: MEDLINE/PubMed, EMBASE, LILACS, Web of Science, and Scopus. The inclusion criteria were studies whose samples were ≥ 50% patients aged ≥ 50 years, with and without HIV, and a main outcome related to the incidence of cognitive impairment. Only cohort studies with follow-up lasting ≥ 24 months were considered. Three reviewers independently screened the documents for eligibility criteria, extracted the data, assessed the risk of bias (Newcastle-Ottawa Scale), and evaluated the quality of evidence. A narrative synthesis was prepared. In total, 10 798 trials were screened, 8884 were excluded, 14 were analyzed, and 5 were included in this review. Only 1 applied cognitive assessment tests; the rest used secondary data from the medical records. Most found that the incidence of cognitive disorders was higher among older people living with HIV, which highlights the need for public policies aimed at primary and secondary prevention strategies. Further research from other countries is still required. PROSPERO register (CRD42022321914).

Abstract This research aimed to estimate the shelf-life of smoked shark catfish coated with chitosan and red galangal extract and packed with aluminum foil using the acceleration method. The prediction of the smoked catfish shelf-life was carried out by storing the smoked catfish at temperatures of 35, 45, and 55 °C for 30 days. The parameters observed during storage were color, sensory score of rancidity, and thiobarbituric acid (TBA) value. Data were analyzed using linear regression, and the equations obtained were used to calculate the shelf-life of smoked catfish at 30 °C. The color values of L*, a*, and b* of the smoked catfish coated with chitosan decreased faster, and the shelf-life was shorter than that of the smoked catfish coated with chitosan and red galangal extract. The shelf-life and activation energy of smoked catfish coated with chitosan at 30 °C were 29.63 days and 2873.146 cal/mol, while the smoked catfish coated with chitosan and red galangal extract were 38.52 days and 3380.371 cal/mol, respectively.

ABSTRACT Fish, like all other species, can be impacted by a variety of environmental conditions, including parasitic infections. Although there are several parasitological researche on ectoparasitic monogeneans, few are published on those that infect sparid fish. Forty samples of Acanthopagrus bifasciatus were collected during this study from coastal regions along the Arabian Gulf (Saudi Arabia). Gills from all fish were isolated and examined to identify monogeneans. The parasites were studied morphologically using light microscopy. Overall prevalence and mean intensity were 20% and 9, respectively. Eight out of 40 (20%) fish samples were found to be naturally infected with a monogenetic species, namely, Bivagina pagrosomi (Murray, 1931) Dillon and Hargis, 1965 belonging to Microcotylidae (order Mazocraeidea). This parasite is characterized by the presence of haptor provided 43-47 clamps of microcotylid-type that deeply penetrated the gill lamellae and caused severe pathological impacts including hyperplasia, telangiectasis, and deformity of the respiratory epithelial cells Our finding indicates that this is the first report of A. bifasciatus being infected with B. pagrosomi from Saudi marine waters as well as the research of its deleterious effects on its host gills. More research is needed to confirm the parasite species’ taxonomic status at the molecular level.

ABSTRACT Among marine creatures including squids, cephalopods and Octopus, one of the most unique features is production of ink which is an extremely valuable source of pharmaceuticals. The current study investigates the ink produced from Octopus vulgaris chemically as well as its potential antioxidant, anticancer, antimicrobial, and anti-schistosomal activities in vitro. Twenty-one different compounds were identified by GC-MS analysis of Octopus vulgaris ink. Results revealed that O. vulgaris ink had antioxidant capability to cover DPPH free radical when compared to ascorbic acid. Moreover, Octopus vulgaris ink exhibited antibacterial activity against Bacillus subtilis followed by Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeuroginosa and exhibited a molluscicidal activity against adult Biomphalaria alexandrina snails and had a distinguished mortal effect on free larval phases of Schistosoma mansoni. Furthermore, its anticancer activity was confirmed, where IC50 value of breast cancer cell line MCF-7, human hepatocellular carcinoma (HCT) and human liver cancer cell line (HepG2) were 29.8, 38.29 and 30.38μg/mL, respectively. In conclusion, ink extracted from O. vulgaris may be considered as source of valuable compounds that can be used as molluscicidal, antioxidant, antimicrobial, anticancer and anti-schistosomal agents.

ABSTRACT Objective: To determine the role of the IL8 rs4073 polymorphism in predicting the risk of central nervous system (CNS) toxicity in patients receiving standard pharmacological treatment for multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB). Methods: A cohort of 85 consenting MDR-TB patients receiving treatment with second-line antituberculosis drugs had their blood samples amplified for the IL8 (rs4073) gene and genotyped. All patients were clinically screened for evidence of treatment toxicity and categorized accordingly. Crude and adjusted associations were assessed. Results: The chief complaints fell into the following categories: CNS toxicity; gastrointestinal toxicity; skin toxicity; and eye and ear toxicities. Symptoms of gastrointestinal toxicity were reported by 59% of the patients, and symptoms of CNS toxicity were reported by 42.7%. With regard to the genotypes of IL8 (rs4073), the following were identified: AA, in 64 of the study participants; AT, in 7; and TT, in 11. A significant association was found between the dominant model of inheritance and CNS toxicity for the crude model (p = 0.024; OR = 3.57; 95% CI, 1.18-10.76) and the adjusted model (p = 0.031; OR = 3.92; 95% CI, 1.13-13.58). The AT+TT genotype of IL8 (rs4073) showed a 3.92 times increased risk of CNS toxicity when compared with the AA genotype. Conclusions: The AT+TT genotype has a tendency to be associated with an increased risk of adverse clinical features during MDR-TB treatment.

This paper aims to study the role of institutional quality on agri-food trade (import and export) between China and 48 African countries during the 2001-2021 period. The gravity model of trade was employed by estimating the Generalised Least Square (GLS) and the Poisson Pseudo-Maximum Likelihood (PPML) estimators, which include zero trade flows for panel data. The main results show that voice and accountability, control of corruption, and the rule of law all enhance agri-food trade flows. While political instability encourages agri-food exports to China. In addition, the economic size of China, the trade cost (distance), and the population of African countries also encourage agri-food trade between China and African economies. Moreover, access to the sea, exchange rate policy, and the economic size of African nations deplete China’s agri-food imports from Africa. We showed the mechanism through which each institutional variable affects China’s agri-food trade flows to African nations.

ABSTRACT Cadmium (Cd) is an environmental pollutant affecting various tissues and organs, including the testis. Many studies demonstrated that Cd toxicity causes testicular impairment through oxidative stress and inflammatory action. Therefore, this study aimed to demonstrate Cd's testicular toxicity and the protective action of zeolite against cadmium's deleterious effects. Adult male rats were given Cd at a dose of 30mg/kg/day for 28 consecutive days with or without zeolite, which was given at a dose of 100mg/kg/day for 28 days. Testis weight, sperm (count, motility, and abnormalities), serum testosterone and luteinizing hormone (LH), testicular enzymes Acid phosphatase (ACP) and Alkaline phosphatase(ALP), inflammatory cytokines Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha (TNF-α) , interleukin-1beta (IL-1β) , and Nuclear Factor Kappa B (NF-κB) and oxidative stress were evaluated. Herein, we found that cadmium caused alterations in sperm characteristics, sex hormone disturbance, decline in testicular enzymes, elevated malondialdehyde (MDA) contents, decreased glutathione (GSH), increased Nuclear Factor Kappa B (NF-κB) and pro-inflammatory cytokines Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin-1beta (IL-1β) levels in testis homogenate. In contrast, zeolite significantly amended these deleterious effects, and the potential mechanism involved the downregulation of Nuclear Factor Kappa B (NF-κB), Tumor Necrosis Factor Alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin-1beta (IL-1β), restoring glutathione (GSH) and reducing malondialdehyde (MDA). Also, zeolite was associated with an increased rate of pregnancy. Our data suggested that oxidative stress and inflammation are responsible for Cd-induced testicular injury and co-administration of zeolite exerts a protective effect via NF-κB /TNF-α/IL-1β pathway.

Abstract The article discusses Mearsheimer’s interpretation of Russia’s use of force against Ukraine based on concepts and categories of Offensive Realism. It is argued that external balancing lost its place during unipolarity. However, Russian internal balancing is one of the factors that enabled the current conflict, and Russia’s rapprochement with China diminishes the prospects for conflict in Asia, allowing Russian military efforts to be concentrated in the European theater. Additionally, the decision to use force will be analyzed in its strategic dimension. It is concluded that Russia’s activities against Ukraine are entirely consistent with Offensive Realism, despite of Mearsheimer’s allegations contrarywise.

Mathematics ,QA1-939 - Abstract
In this paper, we investigate the existence and uniqueness of solutions for fuzzy boundary value problems involving fuzzy Caputo fractional derivatives of order q 2 (2, 3). As a preliminary step, we construct a generic structure of the solution associated with our proposed model by utilizing the Green’s function. We establish the existence of a unique solution of the proposed model paired with the given initial conditions by using Banach fixed point theorem. At last, as application, an illustrative example is given to show the applicability of our theoritical results.

ABSTRACT Cystic echinococcosis (CE) is a parasite-borne disease caused by the larval stage of Echinococcus granulosus belonging to family Taeniidae, is an endemic disease, distributed worldwide as a neglected parasite with socioeconomic repercussions. It causes severe alterations in liver of infected host, and it could be fatal if untreated. The main objective of the present study is to measure and evaluate the condition of hydatidosis in slaughtered sheep in Al Baha region, Saudi Arabia. A total of 601 slaughtered sheep in Al Baha abattoirs were examined for hydatidosis during the year 2020. Various organs were examined for the presence of parasite cysts, and the cyst contents were examined by light microscopy. Also, liver sections infected with cysts were examined for pathological alterations and host-parasite interactions. Forty-two animals were infected (6.09%) with the highest prevalence during summer. During gross examination, it was observed that the sheep liver is the most affected organ by the disease. The liver contained multiple cysts with varying sizes, filled with clear to slightly turbid fluid containing protoscoleces. Detailed sections of the infected liver revealed significant fibrosis around the central vein, portal vein congestion, infiltration of inflammatory cells, and necrosis. Sections through hydatid cysts showed the presence of three surrounding layers with a laminar membrane bordering the cyst lined by a germinal epithelium surrounding several brood capsules with many protoscolesces inside supported by a set of rostellar hooklets. Considerable efforts should be spent to control the transmission of parasitic cysts and inhibit the incorrect disposal of infected meat from slaughterhouses. Also, more focus should be done on epidemiological and control programs of these parasites.

ABSTRACT The present work aims to evaluate anticancer performance of Cassia alata methanolic leaf extracts (CMLE) in ethyl carbamate-stimulated lung adenocarcinoma (LAD) in differentiation to the function of Cisplatin (CIPL). Rats were divided into four groups: (1) control (CONT), (2) lung-adenocarcinoma (LAD) injected intra-peritoneally with 1g/kg ethyl carbamate once weekly for a month, (3) LAD+CMLE administered 500 mg/kg CMLE orally for the last two months of the experiment, and (4) LAD+CIPL treated group, injected 2.5 mg/kg Cisplatin intraperitoneally once weekly for the last two months of the experiment. Light and electron microscopic examinations revealed adenocarcinoma development in terminal bronchiole besides some histopathological changes in the LAD group such as atypical, exaggerated collagen fibers, increment of mucinous content, and increasing of PCNA positive immunoreactivity whereas electron microscopy investigation exposed that papillary adenocarcinoma originated from Clara cells in the LAD group. The LAD+CMLE treated group showed no tumor masses and nearly all with normal lung histology. It also recovered the normal ultrastructure of bronchiolar Clara cells. CMLE treatment offers a new alternative cure with less toxicity than Cisplatin for lung cancer therapy. Hence, CMLE would be employed as a novel supply of anti-cancer compounds combating lung cancer.

The ergogenecity of caffeine (CAF) and pre-exercise music have been studied extensively in male and mixed-gender groups, but there is limited information on their synergistic effects in females. This study assessed the effects of combining a low dose of CAF with warm-up music on taekwondo specific performance, perceived exertion (RPE), and psychological aspects in female athletes. In a double-blinded, randomized, placebo-controlled crossover study, 16 female taekwondo athletes (M ± SD; age: 17.69 ± 0.60 years) performed the taekwondo-specific agility test (TSAT), 10 s frequency speed of kick test (FSKT-10s) and its multiple version (FSKT-mult) under the following conditions: 1) no supplement with music (NS+M); 2) no supplement without music (control); 3) CAF without music (CAF+NM), 4) placebo without music (PL+NM), 5) CAF with music (CAF+M), 6) PL with music (PL+M). After each test, athletes rated their RPE, feeling scale (FS), felt arousal scale (FAS) and physical enjoyment (PACES). CAF+M induced better physical performance than other conditions on the FSKT-10s, FSKT-mult, and more desirable psychophysiological responses including RPE post_TSAT, RPE post_FSKT-10s, PACES post_FSKT-10s, FS, FAS post_warm-up, FAS post_FSKT-10s and FAS post_FSKT-mult (all p < 0.05). Except for PL+M, CAF+M also elicited more desirable responses than other conditions for FAS post_TSAT (p < 0.05). Furthermore, CAF+M and CAF+NM conditions enhanced TSAT, PACES post_TSAT, RPE post_FSKT-mult greater than the other conditions (p < 0.05). Preceding warm-up music stimulus with a low dose of CAF may be a more efficient strategy to enhance physical performance and affective valence in female taekwondo athletes compared with using either strategy in isolation.

Workplace bullying has consistently been observed to have negative impacts on employee well-being by researchers. In the field of bullying research, there hasn't been a study that integrates mediators and explains the nexus between the many different factors that have been studied. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the impact of bullying on workers' performance at hotels in North Cyprus and the mediating role played by emotional intelligence and psychological resilience. Data were randomly collected from 442 hotel employees, including those from five- and four-star hotels on the island. The data were analysed using descriptive analysis. Furthermore, the heuristic model was tested using partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). According to the results, workplace bullying significantly and negatively influences an employee's performance. Secondly, emotional intelligence and psychological resilience positively mediated the relationship between bullying and performance among TRNC hotel employees. More cross-cultural and longitudinal research is needed to determine if these mediators have an enduring effect over time and across different cultures.

Abstract Objective It was aimed to compare visceral adiposity index (VAI) levels in patients with normal bone mineral density (BMD), osteopenia, and osteoporosis. Methods One hundred twenty postmenopausal women (40 with normal BMD, 40 with osteopenia, and 40 with osteoporosis) between the ages of 50 to 70 years were included in the study. For females, the VAI was calculated using the formula (waist circumference [WC]/[36.58 + (1.89 x body mass index (BMI))]) x (1.52/High-density lipoprotein [HDL]-cholesterol [mmol/L]) x (triglyceride [TG]/0.81 [mmol/L]). Results The time of menopause from the beginning was similar in all groups. Waist circumference was found to be higher in those with normal BMD than in the osteopenic and osteoporotic groups (p = 0.018 and p < 0.001, respectively), and it was also higher in the osteopenic group than in the osteoporotic group (p = 0.003). Height and body weight, BMI, blood pressure, insulin, glucose, HDL-cholesterol, and homeostasis model assessment-insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) levels were similar in all groups. Triglyceride levels were found to be higher in the normal BMD group, compared with the osteoporotic group (p = 0.005). The level of VAI was detected as higher in those with normal BMD, compared with the women with osteoporosis (p = 0.002). Additionally, the correlation analysis showed a positive correlation between dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) spine T-scores, WC, VAI, and a negative correlation between DXA spine T-scores and age. Conclusion In our study, we found higher VAI levels in those with normal BMD, compared with women with osteoporosis. meticulously curated exhibits with themes such as sustainability and cultural exchange displayed in pavilions dedicated to individual countries. This research study uses biophilic or biomimetic design strategies to assess the sustainability practices employed in a group of pavilions at the Dubai Expo 2020 that employ biophilic and/or biomimetic design strategies. Biophilic philosophy emphasizes nature-based concepts to foster positive relationships between humans and living organisms, whereas biomimicry imitates natural processes/systems for building practices. Incorporating biophilic and/or biomimetic techniques into pavilion design provides visitors with a one-of-a-kind experience while displaying explicit sustainability principles that go beyond the event's existing architectural framework guidelines. The research evaluation process includes architectural structure designs, materials used during production/creation periods, energy efficiency measurements implemented, and sustainable water management plans based on natural ecological systems. It will also evaluate the adherence of each pavilion chosen to genuine sustainability values by analyzing the incorporation of nature-based concepts into its overall design for potential future reference applications. These techniques have significant potential to improve human health, reduce environmental impact, and encourage global resiliency when implemented beyond Dubai Expo 2020. In conclusion, the research aims to inspire sustainable designs well beyond the Dubai Expo 2020 by demonstrating how biophilic or biomimetic practices are crucial facilitators in constructing spaces that maximize human welfare without endangering the environment. It is also a foundational resource for architects and urban planners committed to advancing sustainable architectural practices through future development projects prioritizing human welfare and environmental protection.

Introduction: Inadequate physical activity is a contributing factor to various non-communicable diseases. The benefits of regular exercise have been well demonstrated, and evidence shows that adults are becoming more sedentary and obese due to a lack of opportunities and obstacles to exercise participation. Objective: The study aimed to identify physical exercise's perceived benefits and barriers among school teachers. Methods: The exercise benefits and barriers were assessed by conducting a cross-sectional design with 500 school teachers in Duhok City in Kurdistan Region, Iraq. Teachers enrolled using stratified simple random sampling from 15th September 2021 to 1st April 2022. Data on socio-demographic characteristics, perceived benefits and barriers of exercise, and physical activity levels were obtained. Results: The majority of school teachers (65.8%) had a low physical activity level. Exercise improves the appearance of the body as well as a disposition; mental health, cardiovascular functioning system, flexibility, and ability to sleep better at night were the most important exercise perceived benefits. Furthermore, "too few exercise places" was the most significant barrier to exercise, followed by other significant barriers including "inconvenient exercise facility schedules," "fatigue," "too far away from exercise places," "tiredness," "time limitations," "family responsibilities," and "being embarrassed to exercise." There was a significant difference between PA levels and exercise benefit, and the barrier score was p

Objectives: This review will determine whether the incidence of cognitive impairment in HIV patients aged ≥ 50 years is greater than that of their HIV-negative peers. Methods: The MEDLINE, EMBASE, LILACS, Web of Science, and Scopus databases will be searched for studies with a sample of individuals aged ≥ 50 years or a mixed population with ≥ 50% aged ≥ 50 years). It will include studies that evaluate seropositive patients compared to and an unexposed control group. Study design: Cohort studies with follow-up ≥ 24 months will be included. Three reviewers will independently screen for eligibility criteria, extract data, and assess the risk of bias in the included studies, as well as evaluate the overall quality of evidence. A narrative synthesis will be prepared according to synthesis without meta-analysis guidelines. Expected results: We expect to find correlations between older age, HIV, and cognitive impairment. Relevance: The association of geriatric syndromes and HIV is becoming an important field of study. Increased life expectancy accompanied by an active sex life is contributing to this public health problem. This protocol is reported according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Protocols and is registered in PROSPERO (CRD42022321914). This study was financed in part by the CAPES foundation (financial code: 001).

ABSTRACT Members of the order Trypanorhyncha are cestode parasites that are frequently found infecting the muscles of several marine fish species, affecting fish health, and resulting in consumers’ rejection of fish. Fifty-two specimens of marine fish were freshly caught throughout the year 2020 from boat landing sites at the Alexandria coast along the Mediterranean Sea in Egypt, including the grey trigger fish Balistes carolinensis (F: Balistidae); the mottled grouper Mycteroperca rubra (F: Serranidae) and the common sole Solea vulgaris (F: Soleidae). Blastocysts were isolated and ruptured; the generated pleurocerci were described morphologically and morphometrically by light and scanning electron microscopy. Also, multiple-sequence alignment was performed, and a phylogenetic tree was constructed following maximum likelihood analysis of the 18s and 28s ribosomal RNA sequences of the recovered worms. Thirty fish were infected; the infection was recorded as blastocysts embedded in fish flesh. Three different parasitic species were recovered and classified morphologically as Gymnorhynchus isuri, Pseudotobothrium dipsacum and Heteronybelinia estigmena. The taxonomic position of these parasites was justified by molecular analysis of their 18s and 28s rRNAs, which revealed high percentages of homology with species recovered from the GenBank. The accession numbers ON157059, ON139663 and ON139662 were respectively assigned to the recovered parasites after their deposition in GenBank. The results obtained from the molecular analyses confirmed the morphological records of the recovered parasites. Since metacestodes are found in the musculature of infected fish specimens, it is necessary to remove these areas in the commercialization of fish.

Objective. The destructive activities of man have become obvious in the Northern parts of Nigeria where a terrorist group known as Boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen have engaged in destructive activities like burning down of churches, schools as well as destruction of lives and property in some of the higher institutions in Northern Nigeria. Libraries and their resources have also been affected at some points. Method. Based on the expository nature of this study the use of qualitative and quantitative research methodology was employed. The population of the study consists of all the librarians and library officer categories of personnel of the public libraries in North-west Nigeria. However, only 74 of these personnel that were accessible at the headquarters of the six public libraries were selected for the study by means of purposive sampling techniques. This sampling method is largely limited to exploratory research. Results. The reliability is as follows: Disaster Incident Experience= .551; Disaster Risk Management=.603; Disaster Management Facilities/equip=.775; Staff opinion= .533. Based on the above mentioned, it is noteworthy to say that it is only Disaster management facility that has higher score of reliability while others are satisfactorily reliable. Conclusions. It will therefore be proper for these libraries to be conscious of the adverse effects of disaster The overall findings have demonstrated that public libraries in the North have experienced disasters at one point in time or the other. However, they are not quite prepared to manage disaster as seen in the responses.
