Este trabalho tem como objetivo analisar se há evidências de que estratégias de gestão ativa, dos Fundos de Investimento em Ações sediados no Brasil, conseguem superar estratégias de gestão passiva de forma consistente ou colaborar para a eficiência do mercado de capitais. Ademais, o estudo busca explorar, na literatura, quais seriam os fatores que influenciam as decisões dos investidores na alocação de portfólio, uma vez que há vasta pesquisa demonstrando que o mercado possui um mecanismo de precificação eficiente e, mesmo assim, os participantes do mercado buscam vencer a concorrência por meio de gestões ativas. Mercados mais eficientes não costumam produzir retornos sistematicamente maiores para carteiras com gestão ativa do que aqueles com gestão passiva quando se leva em conta os custos de transação e de taxas de administração. Utilizando um modelo de dados em painel, compreendendo o período entre 2002 e 2021, e uma estimação com uma regressão de mínimos quadrados, as evidências empíricas sugerem, em consonância com as evidências internacionais, que fundos de ações sediados no Brasil e geridos por estratégias ativas dificilmente entregam resultados superiores a fundos geridos com estratégias passivas. Entretanto, gestores com maior liberdade de alocação, cláusulas de restrição de movimentação dos recursos pelos investidores, volume sob gestão e taxas de incentivo de performance impactam positivamente o desempenho dos fundos. Ademais, a literatura demonstra que os investidores tendem a superestimar o próprio desempenho em relação ao mercado, tanto prospectivamente quanto retrospectivamente. Sugere ainda que vieses comportamentais fazem com que os investidores ganhem menos do que poderiam com o mercado financeiro. This work aims to analyze whether there is evidence that active management strategies of Mutual Funds headquartered in Brazil are able to consistently overcome passive management strategies or contribute to the efficiency of the capital market. Furthermore, the study seeks to explore in the literature which factors influence investors' decisions in portfolio allocation, as there is a vast literature showing that the market has an efficient pricing mechanism and, nevertheless, the market participants pursue to beat competitors through active management. Efficient markets do not usually produce larger returns in actively managed portfolios than in those passively managed if one takes into account transaction costs and administration fees. Using a panel data model, covering the period between 2002 and 2021, statistical inference based on ordinary least squares suggests, in harmony with international evidence, that Brazilian mutual funds which follow active strategies rarely present superior results to the passive strategies. Moreover, managers with greater freedom of allocation, clauses constraining withdrawals, volume under management, and performance incentive rates impact the performance of funds positively. Furthermore, the literature demonstrates that investors tend to overestimate their own performance in relation to the market, both prospectively and retrospectively. It suggests that behavioral biases make investors earn less than they could in the financial market.

RESUMO Contexto: modelos de múltiplos regimes econômicos para alocação de ativos sob a função utilidade estocástica diferencial não constavam na literatura até o modelo de Campani, Garcia e Lewin (2020). Esta função está na fronteira do conhecimento pois, mais realisticamente que as demais, separa os principais parâmetros de risco do investidor. Tal configuração, porém, torna-se complexa a ponto de não admitir solução exata na literatura e a simulação de Monte Carlo não é ágil para solucionar o problema em tempo real. O modelo resolve esta questão com uma aproximação precisa o suficiente para a alocação e nosso artigo oferece a primeira aplicação fora do cenário estadunidense. Objetivo: avaliar estratégias de portfólio montadas a partir do modelo em tela, e comparar suas performances aos retornos dos principais benchmarks do mercado. Métodos: propomos estratégias com e sem vendas a descoberto sob quatro regimes econômicos latentes a partir dos retornos dos ativos: cash (CDI), renda fixa (IMA-G), ações domésticas (IBrX-100) e ações internacionais (S&P 500) em reais. Com estes parâmetros, estimamos as probabilidades de ocorrência dos regimes e definimos os pesos de cada ativo nas carteiras (estratégias de múltiplos regimes). Comparamos as performances destas carteiras com índices de mercado e modelos míopes (estratégias de regime único), calculando a significância estatística dos resultados através do teste de Wilcox. Resultados: com esta pesquisa, tornamo-nos pioneiros ao identificar pela primeira vez quatro regimes econômicos no Brasil para otimização de carteiras. Os resultados indicam que (i) a política de portfólio depende fortemente do estado corrente da economia; e (ii) as estratégias propostas superam o mercado em termos de retornos e índice de Sharpe. Conclusão: os modelos de múltiplos regimes mostram-se relevantes para a gestão de carteiras e estratégias baseadas nestes modelos, por sua vez, podem implicar em soluções que beneficiem gestores de investimentos. ABSTRACT Context: regime switching models in asset allocation under the stochastic differential utility function were not included in the literature until Campani, Garcia and Lewin (2020) model. This function is at the knowledge edge because, more realistically than the others, it separates the investor main risk parameters. Such configuration, however, becomes so complex that it does not admit an exact solution in the literature and Monte Carlo simulation is not efficient to solve the problem in real time. The model solves that issue with an approximate solution, which is fairly accurate for allocation, and our article offers the first application outside the North American scenario. Objective: evaluate portfolio strategies based on the model on screen and compare their performances with the returns of the main benchmarks of the market. Methods: we propose strategies with and without short selling under four unobservable economic regimes based on the asset returns from: cash (CDI), fixed income (IMA-G), domestic stocks (IBrX-100) and international stocks (S&P 500) in Brazilian Reais. With these parameters, we estimate the regimes probabilities and define each asset weights in the portfolios (multi-regime strategies). Then, we compare these portfolios performances with market indexes and the myopic models (single regime strategies), calculating the statistical significance of the results using Wilcox test. Results: with this research, we pioneer identifying for the first time four economic regimes in Brazil for portfolio optimization. The results indicate that (i) the portfolio policy strongly depends on the current economy state; and (ii) the proposed strategies outperform the market in terms of returns and Sharpe ratio. Conclusion: regime switching models are relevant for portfolio management, and strategies based on these models might imply in solutions that benefit investment managers.

O presente estudo tem como objetivo concluir se os ‘Venture Capitalists’ em Portugal tomam decisões de investimento racionais de acordo com o ‘Venture Capital Method’. Para tal foi elaborado um estudo de caso relativo à empresa Science4you. Pretendeu-se identificar se o investimento na Science4you foi uma decisão financeiramente racional por parte da PT Ventures. Assim sendo procedeu-se à avaliação da empresa, através do seu ‘Business Plan’ de 2008, utilizando o ‘Venture Capital Method’. O ‘Business Plan’ traçado pela empresa e o qual serviu de base para a avaliação por parte dos investidores compreendia um horizonte temporal de 2008 a 2013. Adicionalmente comparou-se esse ‘Business Plan’ com os dados efetivos da empresa para o mesmo período. A fim de descobrir se a empresa tem superado as expectativas criadas em 2008 perante os seus investidores. Foi possível concluir que, tendo em conta a informação considerada, que a Science4you foi um bom investimento e superou as expectativas traçadas pela gestão e investidores., This study aims to conclude whether the Venture Capitalists in Portugal make rational investment decisions, according to the Venture Capital Method. For this purpose it was performed a case study on the Science4you company. In order to identify if the investment in Science4you was a financially rational decision by PT Ventures. So we proceeded to the evaluation of the company, through its Business Plan 2008 using the Venture Capital Method. The Business Plan outlined by the company and which formed the basis for the assessment by investors understand a time horizon from 2008 to 2013. Additionally we compared this Business Plan with the company's actual data for the same period. In order to find out if the company has exceeded the expectations created in 2008 before their investors. Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior Nowadays, the personal planning is a very important tool for individuals who seek a better quality of life, when planning the economic field becomes a large array of successful planning. For in addition to measuring personal success, supports the search for new goals, as well as enables ensure tranquility that reflects the financial well-being. In this context, the present study is to develop a Model of Economic Planning, to optimize the management of personal wealth, protecting and enhancing the heritage accumulated return on investment, according to the objectives, constraints and needs of the individual. The study was based on the model of Strategic Planning (ESTRADA, 2007), the model of Personal Planning (ESTRADA, 2011), the Modern Theory of Finance and Investment Management Models that address the key aspects for the development and maintenance s personal assets. The methodology consisted in a qualitative research with exploratory objective and descriptive. For the study design was used for literature review and survey. A description and critical analysis of the literature review allowed us to establish the essential elements for the development of the Model Economic Planning. The model consists of four steps that must be developed sequentially, the steps of the model are: Assessment, Formulation, Implementation and Monitoring, and their respective phases. It was also performed to evaluate the profile of the investor using the Item Response Theory (IRT), which proved to be possible calibrate the items to measure the degree of risk tolerance. Atualmente, o planejamento pessoal é uma ferramenta de suma importância para os indivíduos que buscam uma melhor qualidade de vida, ao se planejar, o campo econômico torna-se um grande vetor de sucesso do planejamento. Pois além de medir o sucesso pessoal, dá suporte na busca de novos objetivos, assim como possibilita garantir uma tranqüilidade financeira que reflete no bem-estar pessoal. Neste contexto, o presente estudo consiste em desenvolver um Modelo de Planejamento Econômico, para otimizar a gestão da riqueza pessoal, protegendo o patrimônio acumulado e potencializando a rentabilidade dos investimentos, conforme os objetivos, restrições e necessidades do indivíduo. Este estudo tomou como base o modelo de modelo de Planejamento Estratégico Pessoal (ESTRADA, 2011), a Teoria das Finanças Modernas e os Modelos de Gestão de Investimentos, que abordam os aspectos determinantes para o desenvolvimento e manutenção do patrimônio pessoal. A metodologia constituiu-se em uma pesquisa de natureza qualitativa, com objetivo exploratório e descritivo. Para o delineamento do estudo, foi utilizada à pesquisa bibliográfica e o levantamento (Survey). A descrição e análise crítica da revisão bibliográfica permitiu estabelecer os elementos essenciais para a elaboração do Modelo de Planejamento Econômico. O modelo desenvolvido é composto de quatro etapas que devem ser desenvolvidas de forma sequencial, as etapas do modelo são: Avaliação, Formulação, Implementação e Monitoramento, além de suas respectivas fases. Também foi realizado a avaliação do perfil do investidor com o uso da Teoria da Resposta ao Item (TRI), que demonstrou ser possível calibrar os itens para medir o grau de tolerância ao risco.

This project will undertake a multivariate statistical analysis and a regression analysis of the data relative to the expenses of pension funds in Brazil in order to test the main hypotheses regarding the sources of variation of these costs. It also aims to provide a more precise picture of the division of these expenses, particularly those associated to contracting out asset management services. The research will gather information on the average fees charged in the market of service providers to pension funds, according to the nature of the service, the amount of assets under management and investment selection. Este trabalho verifica a hipótese de que há economias de escala presentes na administração de planos fechados de previdência privada no Brasil, utilizando três índices para medição do custeio administrativo das Entidades Fechadas de Previdência Privada (EFPPs): despesas administrativas sobre as receitas; despesas administrativas sobre o total de ativos e despesas administrativas por participante. Verifica-se ainda as hipóteses de que o percentual de participantes assistidos sobre o total de participantes, indicando a maturidade do plano, e o número de planos geridos por uma mesma EFPP exercem um efeito importante sobre os índices de custeio. Finalmente, analisa-se o peso das despesas administrativas relativas à gestão dos investimentos no total do custeio de uma EFPP.
