Despite the vast number of studies on academic performance, few propose predictive models that incorporate multiple variables. This study aimed to design and evaluate the Cognitive-Emotional Model of Academic Performance, which includes the variables: metacognition, learning approaches, well-being, self-concept, self-efficacy, self-esteem, value, and fluid intelligence. The main outcome variable was academic performance, assessed using items from the Brazilian National High School Exam. A total of 805 students completed the instruments. The proposed model was analyzed through path analysis and demonstrated a good fit to the data, predicting 85.3% of academic performance. Only metacognition directly explained the variance in academic performance. Relationships between predictor variables were established. Implications for school practice and educational public policies are discussed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
