ABSTRACT Parasitic otitis in cattle is normally caused by nematodes of the genus Rhabditis spp. and is a common problem in Gir breed. Parasitic otitis can cause premature culling and even death of animals. Despite its importance, there is no effective standardized treatment protocol for this condition. The objective of this study was to evaluate two treatments for parasitic otitis caused by Rhabditis spp. in Gir cattle. The external left ear of the animals was washed with 2% boricated alcohol, while the right ear received topical application of Triclorfon, allantoin and zinc oxide paste. The treatments were performed weekly in the first month and monthly over the next two months. Monthly, the ears of all animals were washed under pressure with a physiological solution before treatment. The recovered solution was analyzed, and the number of nematodes counted. Neither treatment was effective in reducing the number of nematodes recovered or the otitis score, but weekly treatment seemed more promising, independent of the drug used.

Introduction: As a health science, dentistry seeks to raise self-esteem and improve patients’ quality of life. However, the emergence of the aesthetic procedure “ear shut,” which proposes correcting protruding ears without surgery, has raised ethical and legal doubts in the dental profession, especially concerning the limits of professional activity. Objective: To conduct a survey of the laws, norms, and resolutions on the area of performance of dental surgeons, as well as to discuss the limits and consequences of their extrapolation from the perspective of the procedure propagated as “ear shut.” Method: A search was carried out for administrative norms on the Federal Council of Dentistry (CFO) websites and the Federal Council of Medicine and legal provisions on the Portal da Legislação website. Results: In the civil sphere, the disclosure of procedures such as the “ear shut” can characterize a promise of result and lead to judicial accountability. Exceeding professional boundaries constitutes an illegal exercise and a crime under the Brazilian Penal Code. In addition to not covering the area of clinical practice of dentists, at the administrative level, CFO Resolutions No. 198/2019 and No. 230/2020 emphasize that ear procedures are not part of the scope of procedures relevant to Dentistry and may lead to ethical infractions and consequent administrative proceedings. Conclusion: At present, based on the skills, prohibitions, rights, and duties of dentists, it can be stated that performing the “ear shut” by these professionals confronts civil, criminal, and administrative obligations.

Ear defects are frequent and result of many etiologies, even though ear reconstruction remains a challenge in plastic reconstructive surgery due to anatomy and local tissue paucity. Despite being rarely used, the tubular retroauricular flap presents as an alternative for helix and lobule reconstruction. In this article, the authors describe the operative technique and report a case in which it was used. Also, plastic surgeons and laypeople rated the operative results of four cases of ear reconstructions using the tubular retroauricular flap. The final esthetic result was rated as good or excellent by 35% of laypeople and 50% of plastic surgeons, whereas the operative result was rated as good or excellent by 70% of laypeople and 80% of plastic surgeons. Thereby the findings and authors’ experience, we can recommend the tubular retroauricular flap technique for reconstructing ear helix border defects.

ABSTRACT The authors present a new surgical approach to the aging earlobe. The technique is based on the classic marginal reduction technique of the earlobe contour that has been improved. In essence, it seeks to preserve the subdermal fat layer of the distal flap created for the purpose of raising the earlobe while being shortened, thickened and smooth, in a hidden scar. It is a tripartite resolution to this problem never seen in the relevant literature. Four 68-year-old women were treated: the first with the classic manner in 2009 and the others with this modification to improve the earlobe withered appearance in 2017-2019. The study shows a rejuvenating eutrophic reduction technique.

In view of changes in the organization of work, with increased pressure for production, restructuring of staff and instabilities in the organizational climate, bank employees may present vulnerabilities to depressive symptoms and self-esteem. The present study evaluated the presence of depressive symptoms and the self-esteem of a sample of bank employees, compared to the general population. The sample of this study was 135 people, men and women, 77 bank employees, aged over 18 years old and 58 individuals from the general population, over 18 years old, through the Depression Symptom Intensity Survey (LIS-D) and Scale Rosenberg's Self-Esteem (EAR). The results show that the prevalence of depressive symptoms among bank employees has scores close to the general population and that the symptoms of thought showed greater damage in bank employees. Self-esteem scores were slightly higher in bank employees, but with no statistically significant difference. The relationship between LIS-D and EAR suggests that depressive symptoms have a negative correlation with self-esteem. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Obesity is a chronic syndrome whose main characteristic is the excessive accumulation of adipose tissue in different regions of the body. This accumulation causes physiological and metabolic changes that can lead to damage to the health and quality of life of individuals with this syndrome. Traditional Chinese medicine is an ancient therapy, with records of its appearance before Christ, originating in China. It has enormous efficacy in the treatment of several syndromes, including obesity. Such therapy is based on the use of the concepts of organs and viscera, yin yang, channels and collaterals and Qi for the diagnosis and treatment of the referred energy syndromes. TCM acts on obesity because it has an antiinflammatory, sedative and neuroendocrine stimulating effect. Among its therapies is auriculotherapy, a technique that treats the body as a whole using reflex points located in the ear. In this perspective, this research aimed to review the literature looking for original articles in which auriculotherapy was used as an alternative to aid in weight reduction in obese individuals in order to assess the effectiveness of the therapy as well as to identify the possible mechanisms by which auriculotherapy influences obesity reduction. It is possible to observe great results with regard to the reduction of anthropometric indices of obese individuals, with a greater adhesion of the female public in the practice of therapy, concluding that the technique is shown as an important aid tool in the treatment of obesity. Canine juvenile cellulitis is a rare condition that affects, in its majority, puppies between three weeks and six months of age, whose pathogenesis has not been completely elucidated; however, it is assumed to be related to immunological failure and reactions to the polyvalent vaccine, which may lead to racial predisposition. As clinical manifestations, the dog presents papules, pustules, alopecia, edema, erythema, crusts and scars, especially on the eyelids, lips and snouts, and the ear pinna is also affected. In addition to these dermatological changes, regional lymphadenomegaly is noted. Diagnosis is based on the exclusion of dermatopathies that mimic the clinical picture, and treatment needs to be carried out early and properly, usually using high doses of glucocorticoids. When therapy is started early, the prognosis is good, although scarring may be permanent. In the present study, a case of a crossbred female poodle pup was reported, which began to show signs of purulent otitis, swollen, crusty and suppurative lesions in the periocular, perilabial, mental region, papules and pustules in the pinna, lymphadenomegaly of submandibular lymph nodes and poplites, and the symptoms started after application of the polyvalent canine vaccine. Glucocorticoid-based treatment was started and, due to the rapid response to therapy, weaning from the medication was started, when the patient had a relapse, which resolved after therapeutic adjustments. The skin is the largest organ in the body and can be affected by a series of pathological processes. Dermatological diseases in general are a frustrating aspect in the clinic of large animals. Thus, the objective of this study was to report skin lesions diagnosed in buffaloes in the region of Baixo Amazonas, state of Pará. 156 buffaloes of the Murrah, Mediterranean and crossbred breeds were taken; Adults and young people, with ages varying from eight months to nine years. On physical examination, it was found that 36.5% (57/156) of the animals had abscesses at the vaccination site. Of these, 12.2% (19/156) were abscesses with the presence of alopecia and 1.3% (2/156) with fistulation. In addition, 1.3% (2/156) of the animals separated at the vaccination site, ulcerated wounds with the presence of purulent secretion. It was identified that 3.8% (6/156) of the buffaloes had the location of the fire mark, with burns, with a crusted, erythematous and exudative aspect, in the croup region. The majority 64.1% (100/156) of the animals separation of the ears, 1.9% (3/156) dissipation by penetration of the horn and in 1.2% (2/156) a skin lesion was observed in any limb posterior right. It was concluded that it was possible to diagnose several cutaneous lesions in buffaloes in the region of Baixo Amazonas, with the error in handling animals being the main causes of the diagnosed injuries. Introduction: The use of ear lobe extenders causes a circular defect whose closure becomes a challenge for the plastic surgeon. There are multiple techniques with mobilization of local flaps in an attempt to close and return to the natural shape of the lobe. We propose to present trichloroacetic acid (TCA) as an alternative for the correction of these lesions. Methods: A total of five patients with lesions by ear skin eyelets were selected, and 90% TCA was used to close the defects. Results: After applying the product, in the first days, there was a hyperemia around the area where the acid was applied. The frosting area was replaced by a crust, which loosened over the days, concomitantly reducing the diameter of the lesion with progressive closure of the defect. Conclusion: Although more studies are needed, the use of 90% TCA proved to be a simple and practical option for the closure of enlarged ear lobes.

The maize (Zea mays L.), plant used in human and animal feeding. Need irrigation in places with low rainfall to meet the plant's water needs. But some aspects increases the demand for time and resources, such as pests. Among these, stands out Helicoverpa zea, causing direct damages that can reach 8%. In order to know better the pest and its relation with the use of irrigation and three new corn hybrids, the objective was to evaluate the occurrence of H. zea in such hybrids at different levels of irrigation. The study was done in february 2018 at the Agro-Food Technological Pole of Arapiraca. The planting was manual in separate lines 0,80 m between each other and 0,10 m between plants, each plot contained 5 lines of 5 m length. It was evaluated the hybrids Javi, Jabra and Janor and levels of drip irrigation, medium irrigation of 2,5 mm/day; 5,0 mm/day and 7,5 mm/day. Evaluations were carried out in the grain formation phase, harvesting 10 ears randomly in each plot, to verify the presence of the pest. The experimental design was in DBC with 3 replicates and 3 treatments arranged in a 3x3 factorial arrangement. In the Sisvar software 5,6, the data were transformed into √x + 0.5 and submitted to ANOVA, applying Tukey regression or test to 5% depending on the variable and if the results are significant. No significant difference was found between the treatments, it is concluded that there is no significant difference in the occurrence of H. zea in hybrids and drip irrigation levels studied.

The auricular complex is commonly affected by tumors or traumatic events. Several surgical options are available for restoration of ear anatomy. We report the case of a patient who presented with tumor lesions on more than one occasion in the anterior left ear and required surgical intervention to correct the defect generated by excision. As a proposed procedure, we designed and executed a superiorly-based insular flap that was rotated to the scaphoid fossa through a tunnel created in the projection of the triangular fossa; this was performed in a single stage, and the patient was satisfied with the aesthetic and functional results.

Temporomandibular Disorder (TMD) is a disorder that affects the temporomandibular joints and masticatory muscles, among other facial structures. Symptoms can generate pain in these joints and muscles, as well as pain in the head, ear, noise in the joints, tinnitus, ear pain, limitation in opening the mouth, among others. Its etiology has multifactorial causes. Among the factors that can influence TMD are psychological. Objective: This study aimed to identify cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) strategies used to treat individuals diagnosed with TMD. Method: Literature review. The databases used were PePSIC, SCIELO, PubMed and BVS, in English and Portuguese. The descriptors used in databases were: TMD and cognitive-behavioral therapy; Temporomandibular disorders and cognitive behavioral therapy, Temporomandibular disorders and cognitive therapy, TMD and cognitive behavioral therapy; Temporomandibular disorder and cognitive behavioral therapy, Temporomandibular disorder and cognitive therapy. The filters used to include the studies were: articles on CBT interventions, articles in Portuguese and/or English and with publication dates in the last three years. Results: Six articles were analyzed, after passing the filters. Discussion: The results show that the main CBT guidelines used in the treatment of TMD are: cognitive restructuring, self-management, psychoeducation and relaxation training. They also suggest that a CBT can bring positive contributions to TMD cases, but the sample in this study was small. The articles point out that multidisciplinary treatment must include cognitive and behavioral interventions. Thus, the need for further research to verify the effects of CBT in patients with TMD is evidenced, especially, studies with clinical trials. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSE, Rosenberg, 1965) in the Ecuadorian context. The original version was evaluated along with alternative models proposed by other research in a sample of 535 adults in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador. The results of the confirmatory factor analysis show that the bifactor model has good internal consistency and adequate goodness of fit. Criterion validity was evaluated by correlating the dimensions of positive selfesteem and negative self-esteem with the subscales of the psychological domain of Quality of Life WHOQOL-BREF, Social Support of DUKE and Engagement to Life. INTRODUCTION: Recently a number of studies have been published on quantitative measures mainly for the prominence of digital imaging processing, which is a non-invasive and precisely procedure. This study assessed measures in anterior view before and after surgery of patients who underwent otoplasty using computer analysis of digital images. METHODS: A retrospective study was performed on a consecutive series from February 2014 to April 2015. Measures were done in the upper third, middle and bottom of the ears. RESULTS: Of 103 patients, 47 were men and 56 women. We used the technique of weakening the cartilage by making multiple posterior islands associated with non-absorbable suture in 56 patients, an isolated conchal cartilage resection in 1 patient and combination of all techniques in 47 patients. The result of auricle measure in frontal viewing at previous measured points performed using computer analysis showed a significant mean reduction in the third month after surgery. CONCLUSION: Digital image assessment can estimate auricle measure with high repeatability, corroborating with the use of digital images in noninvasive procedures as less expensive and highly available option in clinical practice. The computed anthropometric analysis of digital images in direct frontal view using images taken before and after surgery is an alternative method for traditional measurements to evaluate results in otoplasties.

ABSTRACT Objective: to verify the relationship between otological symptoms and parafunctional habits in individuals with temporomandibular joint dysfunction. Methods: evaluations were based on the clinical records of 768 patients treated at a temporomandibular joint diagnostic center from 2010 to 2016. The inclusion criteria were completely filled out charts of adult patients (> 18 years of age) and the final sample comprised 516 clinical records. The presence/absence of parafunctional habits and otological symptoms (tinnitus, hearing impairment, dizziness, the sensation of plugged ears and imbalance) was recorded. Results: statistically significant associations were found between otological symptoms and both sex and the presence of parafunctional habits, as otological symptoms were more prevalent among women and individuals with at least one parafunctional habit. Conclusion: in the present sample, otological symptoms were positively associated with parafunctional habits in individuals with temporomandibular joint dysfunction.

RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar a efetividade da acupuntura auricular na dor de pacientes oncológicos em tratamento quimioterápico e possíveis alterações no consumo de analgésicos após a aplicação da intervenção. Método: Ensaio clínico randomizado com portadores de câncer que apresentavam queixa de dor maior ou igual a quatro na Escala Numérica da Dor. Foram criados dois grupos paralelos, um Experimental, o qual recebeu a aplicação da acupuntura auricular em pontos do equilíbrio energético e em pontos indicados para o tratamento da dor, e um Placebo, em que foram aplicados pontos placebos fixos. Ambos os grupos receberam a aplicação de agulhas semipermanentes em oito sessões. Resultados: Participaram 31 portadores de câncer. Depois das oito sessões de acupuntura auricular, houve diferença significativa entre os grupos na redução da intensidade da dor (p < 0,001) e no consumo das medicações (p < 0,05). Conclusão: A acupuntura auricular foi efetiva na redução da dor de pacientes em tratamento quimioterápico. Registro Brasileiro de Ensaios Clínicos: RBR-6k3rqh.

Stahl's ear deformity was first described in the 19th century and it consists of a rare auricular deformity characterized by hypoplasia of the antihelix crus with enlargement of its base and a third crus of the antihelix connected to posterior portion of helix crus, which deforms the posterolateral wall of the external auditory canal. Reconstructive surgery is the definitive treatment, however, because of the diversity of clinical presentations, no standard technique exist for all cases. The method described in this report is another treatment option and entails the resection of the third crus and reconstruction of superior crus of the antihelix.

AbstractSporotrichosis is the most common subcutaneous mycosis. It is caused by the dimorphic fungus Sporothrix schenckii, and the infection is usually acquired by traumatic inoculation. We describe a case of sporotrichosis in an uncommon location with an unusual mode of transmission. A 49-year-old female patient who lived in an urban area of Rio de Janeiro presented with involvement of the left ear. No history of contact with soil, plants or animals was elicited. The suspected source of infection was a pair of handmade wooden earrings. The delay in the diagnosis and treatment resulted in higher morbidity, unsightly scarring and loss of ear lobe.

Purpose: To analyze the performance of normal-hearing adults with communication complaints in the Dichotic Sentences Test., Methods: We selected from the database 15 normal-hearing participants with normal results in the Digits Dichotic Test, aged between 19 and 44 years, right-handed, who reported communicative complaints. The Dichotic Sentences Test was applied using two protocols consisting of four different combinations of lists called sequences 1 and 2, in the following order: training, divided attention step, right and left directed attention steps., Results: In the first application sequence, the average performance in the divided attention step was 84.7% for the right ear and 60.67% for the left, with statistical difference between ears. The asymmetry between ears varied from -50% to 60%. In the directed attention step, the average performance was 99.33% for the right ear and 98% for the left, with no statistical difference. In the second application sequence, there was a tendency for better results, more pronounced for the left ear, with no statistical significance, with the performance variation and asymmetry between ears remaining high. In the comparison between the sequences, in the divided attention step, it was found that, for the right ear, 40% of the individuals did not vary, 33% performed worse, and 26.7% performed better; for the left ear, 6.6% did not vary, 20% performed worse, and 73.33% performed better. There was result stability in the directed attention step., Conclusion: The normal-hearing adults with communication complaints presented a heterogeneous profile, especially in the divided attention step, with a marked difference between ears and response variability.

Otosclerosis is a frequent affection of the ossicular chain, however other conditions of the ossicular chain are also responsible for conductive hearing losses. Objective: To evaluate which ossicular chain alterations were found in middle ear surgery for conductive hearing losses. Method: Retrospective analysis of all stapedotomies, stapedectomies and exploratory timpanotomies done between 2007 and 2015. Results: Of the 81 procedures carried out, 12 (14.81%) showed to be a different condition from that of otosclerosis in the intraoperative period: fusion, rigidity or absence of the ossicular chain, stapes or oval window agenesis, dehiscence of the superior semicircular canal, agenesis or erosion of the incus and dislocation of the incudo stapedial joint. Conclusion: The otologic surgeon must be aware of the various conductive hearing loss ethiologies in order to avoid misdiagnosis and unnecessary interventions. However, it is important to note that in some cases there are no accurate ways to stablish precise diagnosis previously to a surgical exploration. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar as medidas de reflectância em uma paciente com otosclerose. A paciente, do gênero feminino, 51 anos, apresentava queixa de hipoacusia bilateral e a hipótese diagnóstica de otosclerose. Foram realizados os seguintes testes de avaliação audiológica: imitanciometria, audiometria tonal, vocal e medidas de reflectância acústica, em ambas as orelhas. Por meio da análise dos resultados da reflectância acústica de banda larga, foi possível observar aumento na reflectância, característico de otosclerose, entre as frequências de 500 e 1500 Hz, e diferenciar a orelha esquerda e a orelha direita. As medidas de reflectância permitiram a obtenção de resultados detalhados por frequência que, em conjunto, possibilitaram a diferenciação entre as duas orelhas. O uso da reflectância de banda larga é sugerido para complementar o diagnóstico da otosclerose.

Objective: To assess the static and dynamic balance performance of students with normal hearing and with sensorineural hearing loss. Methods: A cross-sectional study assessing 96 students, 48 with normal hearing and 48 with sensorineural hearing loss of both sexes, aged 7 and 18 years. To evaluate static balance, Romberg, Romberg-Barré and Fournier tests were used; and for the dynamic balance, we applied the Unterberger test. Results: Hearing loss students showed more changes in static and dynamic balance as compared to normal hearing, in all tests used (p<0.001). The same difference was found when subjects were grouped by sex. For females, Romberg, Romberg-Barré, Fournier and Unterberger test p values were, respectively, p=0.004, p<0.001, p<0.001 and p=0.023; for males, the p values were p=0.009, p<0.001, p<0.001 and p=0.002, respectively. The same difference was observed when students were classified by age. For 7 to 10 years old students, the p values for Romberg, Romberg-Barré and Fournier tests were, respectively, p=0.007, p<0.001 and p=0.001; for those aged 11 and 14 years, the p values for Romberg, Romberg-Barré, Fournier and Unterberger tests were p=0.002, p<0.001, p<0.001 and p=0.015, respectively; and for those aged 15 and 18 years, the p values for Romberg-Barré, Fournier and Unterberger tests were, respectively, p=0.037, p<0.001 and p=0.037. Conclusion: Hearingloss students showed more changes in static and dynamic balance comparing to normal hearing of same sex and age groups. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The earlobe is an anatomical structure that has a significant aesthetic role. Its surgical repair places a challenge due to the difficulty of obtaining a natural appearing and durable outcome. The authors present two options: the Gavello technique and the bilobed flap, after the excision of malign neoplasms of the earlobe. The Gavello technique makes use of a bilobed flap with an anterior base to mold the new earlobe. D'Hooghe's bilobed flap with a pre and post-auricular lobe allows the reconstruction of small earlobes. Both techniques, although old, acquire an important and current interest in earlobe reconstruction, by reason of the moderate degree of difficulty, the use of a single time surgical act and under local anesthesia, with a proper aesthetic result.O lóbulo auricular é uma estrutura anatómica com uma importância estética significativa. O desafio inerente à sua reconstrução relaciona-se com a dificuldade em obter um resultado duradouro e cosmeticamente aceitável. Os autores apresentam duas opções: a técnica de Gavello e o retalho bilobado, após excisão de neoplasias malignas do lóbulo auricular. A técnica de Gavello, recorre a um retalho bilobado com base anterior, para constituir o novo lóbulo auricular. O retalho bilobado de D'Hooghe, com lobos pré e pós-auriculares, permite a reconstrução de defeitos de pequenas dimensões. As duas técnicas descritas, apesar de antigas, mantém-se actuais pela execução de grau de dificuldade média, em tempo cirúrgico único, sob anestesia local com a obtenção de resultados cosmeticamente aceitáveis.

BACKGROUND: Weathering nodules of the ear are pale yellow, asymptomatic lesions which predominate on the helices of the ears. Although their pathogenesis remains unknown, there is an association with chronic exposure to ultraviolet radiation, age and thermal injuries. Few studies have been conducted to date, and these involved a very small number of patients. OBJECTIVE: Study the prevalence of weathering nodules of the ear in patients treated in the Dermatology Service of the State Civil Servant's Hospital of São Paulo, and evaluate their probable relationship with sun exposure, age and phototypes I and II. METHODS: Four hundred patients older than 20 years of age were examined between July 2008 and December 2008. A questionnaire evaluating age, sex, place of birth, origin, occupation and history of sun exposure was applied. All patients were examined and evaluated for the presence of lesions by only one person. RESULTS: The data showed that 155 (38.8%) patients had a lesion in at least one of the ears. The Chi-Square Test was used for the comparative analysis between the groups of patients with and without lesions. In the group of patients with lesions, 29% were 70 to 79 years old, 78.1% had a history of sun exposure and 45.1% belonged to FITZPATRICK skin phototypes I and II (pCONCLUSION: The findings suggest relevant prevalence, probable association with chronic sun exposure, advanced age and phototypes I and II.FUNDAMENTOS: Pápulas climáticas das orelhas são lesões assintomáticas de coloração amarelo-pálida que predominam na hélice das orelhas. Sua patogênese permanece desconhecida, no entanto é descrita a associação com exposição crônica à radiação ultravioleta, idade e injúrias térmicas. Poucos estudos foram realizados até o momento e os mesmos envolveram número muito reduzido de pacientes. OBJETIVO: Estudar a prevalência de pápulas climáticas das orelhas nos doentes atendidos no Serviço de Dermatologia no Hospital Servidor Estadual de São Paulo e avaliar a provável relação com exposição solar, idade e tipo de pele. MÉTODOS: Foram examinados 400 pacientes com idade superior a vinte anos no período compreendido entre os meses de julho de 2008 a dezembro de 2008. Foi aplicado questionário que avaliou idade, sexo, naturalidade, procedência, profissão e história de exposição solar Todos os sujeitos da pesquisa foram examinados por um único observador e avaliados quanto à presença de lesão. RESULTADOS: Os dados revelaram que 155 (38,8%) pacientes apresentavam lesão em pelo menos uma das orelhas. Foi utilizado o teste do Qui-Quadrado para análise comparativa entre o grupo de pacientes com e sem lesão. No grupo de pacientes com lesão 29% tinham idade entre 70 e 79 anos, 78,1% tinham história de exposição solar e 45,1% pertenciam ao fototipo I e II da classificação de FITZPATRICK (pCONCLUSÃO: Os achados sugerem prevalência relevante, provável associação com exposição solar crônica, idade avançada e com o fototipo I e II.

Technical advances in magnetic resonance imaging have allowed to accurately detect and grade endolymphatic space distension in Ménière disease; this was only possible in post-mortem histological studies until a few years ago. Magnetic resonance imaging rules out other causes of vertigo and hearing loss, and is able to evaluate the cochlear and vestibular compartments of the endolymphatic space using a dedicated protocol. INTRODUÇÃO: As técnicas de otoplastia que utilizam suturas permanentes para moldar as cartilagens apresentam elevada taxa (de até 22%) de incidência de problemas granulomatosos no pós-operatório. Para controlar essas complicações, Horlock et al., em 2001, desenvolveram o retalho adipofascial retroauricular. Neste trabalho, são comparados pacientes submetidos a otoplastia com e sem o uso desse retalho, com o objetivo de identificar a incidência de complicações com suturas, avaliar a eficácia do retalho adipofascial retroauricular na prevenção dos problemas com as suturas definitivas aplicadas na cartilagem auricular, e analisar se a confecção desse retalho envolveu aumento da taxa de outras complicações de otoplastia que não as relacionadas às suturas, especialmente deiscência de suturas ou má cicatrização no pós-operatório. MÉTODO: Foram revisados os prontuários de 24 pacientes submetidos a otoplastias realizadas no período de 2007 a 2009 no Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto da Universidade de São Paulo (Ribeirão Preto, SP, Brasil). Os pacientes foram divididos em 2 grupos, um deles compreendendo a técnica "clássica" (grupo clássico, n = 24 orelhas) e o outro, a técnica de "retalho" (grupo retalho, n = 24 orelhas), de forma retrospectiva e com tempo pós-operatório mínimo de 24 meses. RESULTADOS: A incidência total de complicações graves de suturas foi de zero no grupo retalho e de 20,8% no grupo clássico. Edema mais acentuado nos primeiros 14 dias de pós-operatório também foi identificado no grupo retalho em 41,6% dos pacientes vs. 12,5% dos pacientes do grupo clássico. O passo técnico de confecção do retalho adipofascial retroauricular não aumentou o tempo cirúrgico. É plausível que a cobertura tecidual retroauricular mais robusta sobre as suturas e o fato de que o tecido em contato com essas suturas seja subcutâneo íntegro sejam os possíveis fatores responsáveis pela queda da incidência de problemas granulomatosos significativos nas otoplastias em que se utilizou o retalho. CONCLUSÕES: Após a introdução do retalho adipofascial retroauricular, a incidência de complicações relacionadas a granulomas caiu para zero, demonstrando a eficácia do retalho na prevenção dessas complicações. Esse benefício foi obtido sem que houvesse aumento da incidência de outras complicações ou do tempo cirúrgico. Este estudo sugere que o retalho adipofascial retroauricular pode ser uma importante adição ao armamentário técnico dispensado à otoplastia.BACKGROUND: Otoplasty techniques using permanent sutures to mold cartilage have high rates of incidence of granulomatous issues (up to 22%) during the postoperative period. In order to control these complications, Horlock et al. developed the adipofascial retroauricular flap in 2001. In the present study, we compared patients who underwent otoplasty with or without the use of this flap. We aimed to quantify the incidence of complications affecting the sutures, evaluate the efficacy of the retroauricular adipofascial flap in the prevention of problems associated with the permanent sutures applied to the auricular cartilage, and analyze if the preparation of this flap increased the rates of other types of complications not related to the sutures, particularly suture dehiscence or defective wound healing during the postoperative period. METHODS: We consulted the medical records of 24 patients who underwent otoplasties from 2007 to 2009 at the Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade de Medicina de Ribeirão Preto da Universidade de São Paulo (Clinics Hospital of Ribeirão Preto, Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo). The patients were divided into 2 groups, one where a "classic" technique was used (n = 24 ears) and another where the "flap" technique was used (n = 24 ears). Patients were reviewed in a retrospective manner and had a minimal postoperative period of 24 months. RESULTS: The total incidence of important complications related to the sutures was zero in the "flap" group and 20.8% in the "classic" group. Edema was more pronounced in the first 14 postoperative days, and was identified in 41.6% of patients in the flap group versus 12.5% of the patients in the classic group. The technical steps involved in preparing the adipofascial retroauricular flap did not increase surgical time. It is possible that the retroauricular tissue covering the sutures (which is stronger) and the tissue connecting these sutures (preserved subcutaneous tissues) were the main factors responsible for the significant decrease in granulomatous complications after otoplasties in which the flap was used. CONCLUSIONS: After the retroauricular adipofascial flap was introduced, the incidence of complications was reduced to zero, demonstrating the efficacy of this flap in the prevention of complications related to granulomas. This benefit was obtained without an increase in the incidence of other complications or surgical time. This study suggests that the retroauricular adipofascial flap may be an important addendum to the technical tools used during otoplasty.

Radiography (conventional and contrasted - canalography) and audioelectrophysiologic (impedance audiometry) tests were correlated with otitis media in 12 middle ear affected and 12 healthy dogs. When comparing both diagnostic methods, it was found that the reliability in the detection of otitis media in dogs was 100% for the first and 58.3-60.0% for the latter. Thus, it was possible to attest that the impedance audiometry was the most accurate method in the identification of otitis media in dogs when compared with radiographic assessments.

BACKGROUND: Congenital or traumatic ear deformities are difficult and complex issues in plastic surgery due to the increasing number of cases and high degree of difficulty involved in surgeries to restore facial harmony. The authors assessed the techniques used in ear reconstruction, their complications, and the degree of esthetic and functional satisfaction. METHODS: A retrospective cross-sectional study was performed, including cases of post-traumatic ear reconstruction in which costal cartilage graft was employed; the study took place at Hospital Geral de Goiânia Dr. Alberto Rassi and a private clinic from February 2005 to March 2010. Patient satisfaction with respect to esthetic and functional aspects was recorded during postoperative visits. RESULTS: Thirty-four cases were analyzed including 14 (41.1%) women and 20 (58.9%) men (range, 13-56 years). The average time for reconstruction after trauma was 6-8 months, and the average interval between surgeries was 6 months. Five patients had complications; only 1 required re-intervention due to posterior atrial contraction. Of all patients, 30 reported being satisfied with both the esthetic and functional results; 4 were dissatisfied, and 1 of them underwent subsequent retouching. CONCLUSIONS: Ear reconstruction after trauma is a complex issue in plastic surgery; however, with the standardization and systematization of techniques and a well-established learning curve, the results are very satisfactory; facial harmony can be restored with low complication rates.INTRODUÇÃO: As deformidades auriculares congênitas ou traumáticas representam um tema de expressividade e complexidade em cirurgia plástica, pelo aumento de casos e pelo alto grau de dificuldade observado nos procedimentos de reparação, necessários para a restauração da harmonia facial do indivíduo. Os autores avaliam a técnica utilizada nas reconstruções auriculares e suas complicações, bem como o grau de satisfação estética e funcional. MÉTODO: Foi realizado um estudo retrospectivo, transversal, analisando os casos de reconstrução de orelha pós-trauma, operados no Hospital Geral de Goiânia Dr. Alberto Rassi e em clínica particular, de fevereiro de 2005 a março de 2010, em que foi empregado enxerto de cartilage costal. O grau de satisfação dos pacientes foi aferido nas consultas de pós-operatório com relação aos aspectos estéticos e funcionais. RESULTADOS: Foram analisados 34 casos, sendo 14 (41,1%) mulheres e 20 (58,9%) homens, com faixa etária entre 13 e 56 anos. O tempo médio para a reconstrução após o trauma foi de cerca de seis meses a oito meses e de um ato cirúrgico para outro, de seis meses. Cinco pacientes apresentaram complicações, e apenas um deles necessitou reintervenção em decorrência de retração auricular posterior. Do total de pacientes avaliados, 30 se definiram como satisfeitos com o resultado tanto estético como funcional e os outros 4, como insatisfeitos, sendo um deles submetido a retoque posterior. CONCLUSÕES: A reconstrução auricular após trauma é um tema complex da cirurgia plástica, mas com a padronização e a sistematização de técnicas e uma curva de aprendizagem bem executada os resultados são muito satisfatórios, devolvendo harmonia facial ao indivíduo, com baixa taxa de complicações.

INTRODUÇÃO: A reconstrução para corrigir as deformidades auriculares, congênitas ou adquiridas, é uma cirurgia desafiadora devido à grande variabilidade clínica e dos tipos de tratamento. Firmin descreveu uma classificação cirúrgica com a finalidade de auxiliar o cirurgião plástico na realização do tratamento. OBJETIVO: Demonstrar que não existe uma regra única entre os tipos clínicos e os possíveis tipos de incisão na pele e apresentar a melhor maneira de utilizar a classificação cirúrgica de Firmin. MÉTODO: Foram avaliados 12 pacientes, todos portadores de deformidades congênitas ou adquiridas. Os pacientes foram classificados clínica e cirurgicamente pela autora sênior. Foram excluídos do estudo os pacientes submetidos à reconstrução de orelha sem a necessidade de cartilagem costal, utilizando cartilagem conchal da orelha contralateral. Todos os pacientes foram submetidos à reconstrução de orelha e acompanhados por um ano. Foi avaliado também o índice de complicações. RESULTADOS: As classificações cirúrgicas de incisão na pele foram: 3 pacientes tipo II, 2 pacientes tipo IIIa e 4 pacientes tipo IIIb. Os tipos de maquete foram: 5 pacientes tipo I e 4 pacientes tipo III. Não houve mudanças das indicações cirúrgicas. O índice de complicações foi considerado baixo. CONCLUSÃO: A classificação cirúrgica de Firmin para reconstrução auricular demonstrou ser uma excelente ferramenta para direcionar o cirurgião plástico no planejamento terapêutico. O tipo de incisão, proposto por Firmin, a ser utilizado na correção cirúrgica tem relação com o tamanho e a localidade do remanescente auricular ou com sua ausência, e é independente da classificação clínica.INTRODUCTION: The reconstruction to correct microtias and acquired ear deformities is a defying surgery due to clinical variations and many forms of treatment. Rogers and Tanzer described the clinical classification that is the most utilized in the literature and Firmin described a surgical classification to assist the plastic surgeon in the treatment. OBJECTIVE: Demonstrate that there is no strict indications between the clinical types and types of skin incision and to present the best way to use Firmin's surgical classification. METHODS: 12 patients with congenital (microtias) or acquired (burn sequela) ear deformities were evaluated. The patients were categorized clinically and surgically by the senior author. All patients underwent reconstructive surgery and were followed up for one year. It was also evaluated the complication index. RESULTS: The clinical classification was: 3 patients as small anomaly, 4 as lobular type, 3 as conchal type and 2 patients with total defect / burn sequel. The surgical classification of skin incision was: 3 patients as type II, 2 as type IIIa and 4 as type IIIb. For the framework was: 5 patients type I and 4 patients type III. The complication index was low. CONCLUSION: The Firmin's surgical classification for ear reconstruction demonstrated to be an excellent tool to guide the plastic surgeon in the therapeutic treatment. The Firmin's types of incision utilized in the corrective surgery have a relationship with the size and location of the auricular remanent and are independent of the clinical classification.

OBJETIVO: Caracterizar os achados da prova calórica em pacientes com vertigem posicional paroxística benigna, segundo o canal semicircular comprometido. MÉTODOS: Foram analisados 1033 prontuários de pacientes submetidos à pesquisa de nistagmo posicional e de posicionamento e à eletronistagmografia. Os achados da prova calórica, de acordo com os canais semicirculares acometidos, foram submetidos à análise estatística. RESULTADOS: No comprometimento de canal posterior, houve prevalência de normorreflexia (pPURPOSE: To characterize caloric test results in benign paroxysmal positional vertigo patients, according to the damaged semicircular canal. METHODS: The data of 1033 patients submitted to Dix-Hallpike testing, positional nystagmus and electronystagmography were analyzed. OBJETIVO: Esclarecer a relação das diferenças entre os limiares auditivos das orelhas direita e esquerda com o percentual de erros e acertos na localização de fontes sonoras em ambientes reverberantes. MÉTODOS: Foram examinados 56 voluntários, sendo 33 homens e 23 mulheres, média de idade de 26,6 anos, submetidos aos seguintes testes: otoscopia, audiometria tonal, imitanciometria e emissões otoacústicas. Todos os voluntários apresentaram audição dentro dos padrões de normalidade. Posteriormente, os indivíduos foram submetidos ao teste de localização sonora espacial, onde foram utilizadas ondas quadradas com freqüências fundamentais centradas em 500 Hz, 2000 Hz e 4000 Hz. Os estímulos foram apresentados quinze vezes em cada uma das treze posições espaciais do aparelho utilizado, em cada uma das freqüências escolhidas. Assim, foram apresentados 585 estímulos, no total, por pessoa. RESULTADOS: Na amostra estudada, encontrou-se como resultado, idade entre 18 e 50 anos, média da diferença dos limiares auditivos entre as orelhas de 6,81 dB e percentual de acertos na localização sonora dentro dos padrões normais. A correlação entre as diferenças interaurais e os acertos na localização, no entanto, não foi significativa. CONCLUSÕES: O presente estudo demonstrou que, em pessoas com audição normal, as variações dos limiares auditivos e as diferenças entre as orelhas até 10 dB não interferem na localização de fontes sonoras.PURPOSE: To relate the differences between left and right ears' auditory thresholds and rate of correct/incorrect responses in sound localization tasks placed in reverberant environments. METHODS: The following tests were carried out: otoscopy, pure tone audiometry, impedanciometry and otoacoustic emissions. All 56 volunteers presented normal hearing results in all tests. After that, the volunteers were submitted to a sound localization test, in which square waves of 500 Hz, 2000 Hz and 4000 Hz were used. Stimuli were presented fifteen times in each one of the thirteen space positions of the device used, for each frequency tested. Therefore, a total number of 585 stimuli were presented for each subject. RESULTS: Data analysis showed that the sample had subjects with ages between 18 and 50 years, the average difference between right and left ears' auditory thresholds was 6,81 dB, and percentage of correct answers on the sound localization test was within normal values. No significant correlations were found between interaural differences and localization abilities. CONCLUSIONS: The present study showed that, for people with normal hearing, the auditory thresholds variations and interaural differences until 10 dB do not interfere on sound localization.

Este trabalho foi conduzido para se avaliarem produtividade e as características morfológicas de cinco híbridos de milho Pioneer: superprecoce P32R21, os precoces P30R07, P3041, P30F33 e o semiprecoce P30F80, em cinco estádios de maturação. O delineamento utilizado foi de blocos ao acaso, com cinco tratamentos e quatro repetições. A colheita das amostras dos híbridos de milho foi adotada estimando-se cinco estádios de maturidade da planta: 30, 34, 38, 42 e 46% de matéria seca. Por ocasião da colheita, no primeiro estádio de maturação, foram tomados alguns parâmetros para avaliação, como altura da planta, altura inserção de espiga, peso da planta, diâmetro de colmo e número médio de espigas. Para cada estádio de maturação, procedeu-se à separação de colmo + bainha, lâmina foliar, grão, sabugo e palha. Os híbridos superprecoce P32R21 e o precoce P3041 apresentaram maiores peso, diâmetro de colmo e altura de planta. As produções de matéria seca (MS), massa verde, grãos, lâmina foliar e colmo + bainha, expressas em toneladas/ha, diferiram entre os híbridos avaliados e houve efeito de dias pós-plantio (DPP). O aumento na produção de MS verificado com o avanço do estádio de maturidade dos híbridos foi correlacionado positivamente com o aumento da produção de grãos (R² = 64,3%). A produção de MS correlacionou-se positivamente com a percentagem de espiga (R² = 56,0%) e negativamente (R² = -56,7%) com a percentagem de colmo + bainha (em relação a planta inteira).This study was conducted to evaluate productivity and morphologic traits of five hybrids of Pioneer corn: P32R21, P30R07, P3041, P30F33 and P30F80 at different maturity stages. The treatments were used in plots of 7 x 8 m in a randomized block design, with four replicates. The samples collected, of corn hybrid, were adopted trying to estimate phases of maturity of the plant (30, 34, 38, 42 and 46% of dry matter [DM]). In the first maturation stage, some parameters (plant height, the ear of the corn insertion height, plant weight, stem diameter, number medium of ears of the corn) were evaluated, at harvest. For each maturation stage, was done separation of stem + sheath, leaf lamina, grain, cob and straw. The hybrid P32R21 and P3041 presented shown weight, diameter stem and plant height. Dry matter (DM) yield, green material, grain, leaf lamina, and stem + sheath, expound t/ha at hybrids were different and presented significance at days after seeding (DAS). The increase the productivity DM verify with the advanced the maturity stage hybrids, correlations positively with increase the production grain (R² = 64.3%). Too the production DM correlations positively with concentration ear (R² = 56.0%) and negatively (R² = -56.7%) with the concentration stem + sheath (in relation a whole plant).

Cinqüenta felinos hígidos, adultos - vinte e seis machos e vinte e quatro fêmeas - sem definição racial, com distintas idades, reunidos em dois grupos (GRUPO 1- animais domiciliados e GRUPO 2 - animais que rendados) de vinte e cinco animais cada. Após anamnese e prévia sedação, os gatos foram submetidos a exame físico e à otoscopia, comprovando-se a ausência de lesões meatais e timpânicas, com cureta de Buck e wragatoas estéreis, foi colhido material meatal, que foi então submetido a exames bacteriológico e micológico. No Grupo 1, foi evidenciado presença de Otodectes cynotis (4% das amostras), em 72% dos casos de bolores e leveduras (Cladosporium sp 66,6%, Malassezia sp 40%, Penicillium sp 33%, Aspergillus sp 33,3%, Rhodotorula sp 20,0%, Mycelia sp 13,3% e Alternaria sp, Aureobasidium sp, Ryzopus sp, Trichosporon sp, todos com 6,6%) e, finalmente, em 64% da amostragem, bactérias dos gêneros Staphylococcus spp (81,2%), Pseudomonas sp (12,5%), Klebsiella sp (12,5%), Acinetobacter sp, Bacilos difteróides, Enterobacter sp, Lactobacillus spp (todos com 6,2%). No Grupo 2, o Otodectes sp foi identificado em 36% das amostras, em 96% daquelas isolaram-se fungos dos gêneros: Malassezia sp - 54,1%, Aspergillus e Penicillium sp, ambos com 33,3%, Microsporum sp - 29,1%, Cladosporium sp - 16,6%, Trichoderma sp - 12,5%, Alternaria e Phoma sp, ambos com 8,3% e Epicoccum sp, Neurospora sp. Mycelia sp, Rhodotorula sp, todos com 4,1% e, por fim, em 20 das 25 amostras (80%) isolaram-se pelo menos uma cepa bacteriana (Staphylococcus spp 75%, Klebsiella sp 20,8%, Bacilos difteróides 12,5%, Pseudomonas sp, 8,3%) e Acinetobacter sp, Enterobacter sp e Escherichia sp, todos com 4,1% cada um em cultivo monoespecífico ou em associação.The study aimed to find out the frequency of microrganisms in the external ear canal in healthy cats. Fifty adult male (26) and female (24) short hair cats were utilized for the purpose, and they were divided according to living enviroment (Group l - indoor and Group 2 - outdoor). All animals were submitted to sedation prior to physical and otoscopic examinations in order to confirm to be healthy. Samples were obtained from ear canal by use of Buck curetes and sterile cotton sticks for microbiological investigation. In cats of Group 1, Otodects cynotis were observed in 4%. In 72% of the animals yeasts and molds were found (Cladosporium sp 66.6%, Malassezia sp 40%, Penicillium sp 33%, Aspergillus sp 33.3%, Rhodotorula sp 20%, Mycelia sp 13.3%, and 6.6% for Alternaria sp, Aureobasidium sp, Ryzopus sp and Trichosporon sp), finally, m 64% of the samples, was detected Staphylococcus spp (81.2%), Pseudomonas sp (12.5%), Klebsiella sp (12.5%), and 6,2% for Acinetobacter sp. Bacilos difteroides, Enterobacter sp, Lactobacillus spp. In Group 2, O. cynotis was isolated in 36% of cats, and in 96% of the animals wasfound Malassezia sp (54.1%), Aspergillus sp (33.3%), Penicillium (33.3%), Microsporum sp (29.1%), Cladosporium sp (16.6%), Trichoderma sp (12.5%) Alternaria sp (8.3%), Phoma sp (8.3%), Epicoccum sp (4.1%), Neurospora sp (4.1%), Mycelia sp (4.3%), Rhodotorula sp (4.1%). In 20 out of 25 (80%), at least one bacterial microrganism was isolated (Staphylococcus sp 75%, Klebsiela sp 20.8%, Bacilos difteroides 12.5%, Pseudomonas sp 8.3%, and 4.1% for Acynetobacter sp, Enterobacter and Escherichia sp).

Neste experimento, 12 cães com idade entre 7 e 12 meses foram submetidos a técnica cirúrgica com objetivo de apresentar novo método para reparo de desvio lateral da orelha externa, mediante transplante autólogo de cartilagem costal. Verificou-se que as orelhas apresentaram postura ereta, movimentos aparentemente normais e ausência de desvio. Macroscopicamente o enxerto encontrava-se firmemente aderido a cartilagem auricular e a pele. Pela microscopia óptica observou-se em torno da cartilagem costal presença de tecido conjuntivo fibroso. A técnica cirúrgica avaliada poderá ser utilizada para correção de desvio lateral da orelha de cães.To perform the research twelve dogs between 7 and 12 months old were submitted to a surgical technique in order to test new method to repair lateral external ear deviation with an autologus costicartilage implant. The ears presented erect posture, normal appearance, movement and no deviations. Macroscopic examination showed that the implant was firmly attached to the auricular cartilage and skin. Around the costicartilage fibrous connective tissue was observed by optical microscopy. This surgical technique can be used to correct lateral deviations of dogs ears.

Purpose: to investigate the test-retest reliability of the AudBility program in typically developing children aged six-seven years., Methods: 29 children, male and female, right-handed, native Portuguese speakers and adequate school performance for the age group studied, underwent previous meatoscopy, immittance measurements and the AudBility program was applied, composed of a self-perception questionnaire and auditory tasks, being analyzed the abilities of sound localization, auditory closure, figure-ground, dichotic digits test, temporal resolution, and temporal ordering of frequency and duration. The program was designed and reapplied with an interval of one week under the same conditions. The performance in each task was presented from central tendency and dispersion data and was conducted using the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC), based on the 95% confidence interval (CI)., Results: The analyses showed a positive and significant ICC (p<0.01) for the questionnaire and auditory tasks, except for auditory closure, in the right and left ears and figure-ground in the left ear. The questionnaire mean ICC was 0.742 and ranged from -0.012 to 0.698 for the auditory tasks., Conclusion: Based on mean results and upper limit of the CI, the findings showed agreement between moments, classified as good for the questionnaire and moderate to good for five of the seven auditory analyzed tasks (ICC>0.05 and <0.9). The results of the reliability study represent an important parameter for validating the program for the studied age group.

The theme of this study is the analysis of the state of art in hearing health in Brazil and the investigation of scientific production in this area. The aim is to describe, to analyze and to build the story line of scientific hearing health in Brazil during the period between 2000 and 2010; the reference were the deployment, development and evaluation of hearing health policy of the Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS). The first studies are from 2005. Since then, especially in the two last years, the number of studies grew gradually. The category Users was the one with more articles included. Purpose: to check the concordance between the Middle Latency Response and temporal processing tests. Methods: 155 normal hearing subjects of both genders (age group range between 7 to 16 years) were evaluated with the Pitch and Duration Pattern Tests (behavioral) and Middle Latency Response (electrophysiologic) and divided into two groups: normal and abnormal, according to their test results. Results: among all subjects, 30% showed abnormality in the tests, except for the Middle Latency Response that was under 17.4%. The pitch and duration patterns (right and left ears) agreed until 12 years of age. From 13 years, there was a greater number of alteration in the pitch patterns than in the duration patterns. The pitch and duration patterns (right and left ears) and MLR did not show concordance. For the 7 and 8-year-old group, the combination pitch and duration patterns normal/abnormal Middle Latency Response had greater occurrence than the combination pitch and duration patterns abnormal / normal Middle Latency Response. For the other groups the opposite occurred. There was not statistical difference among the age groups regarding normal and abnormal results for the pitch patterns (right and left ears) and Middle Latency Response, the duration patterns showed more abnormal results for the 9, 10 years old group. Purpose: to investigate the correlation of auditory brainstem response (ABR) and behavioral auditory processing evaluation. Methods: sixty girls, from Paraíba do Sul, ranging from 9 to 12-year-old were evaluated. In order to take part in the study all of them should have normal hearing thresholds, type A tympanograms and presence of acoustic reflexes. Behavioral auditory processing evaluation consisted of: sound localization, memory for verbal and non verbal sounds in sequence, speech in noise test, SSW test and nonverbal dichotic test. After the behavioral testing children were divided into two groups, G1 ( without auditory processing disorders) and G2 (with auditory processing disorders of any degree and categorization) and have undergone the register of auditory brainstem response (ABR). The groups were compared using absolute latencies of Waves I, III, V and interpeak latencies I-III, III-V, I-V and interaural difference of Wave V latency. Results: our results indicated statistical significant differences considering interpeak latency in the left ear (p=0.009), in right and left ears considering interpeak latencies for G2 (p=0.02) and in interpeak latencies of waves I and V considering right and left ears between the groups G1 and G2 (p=0.025). Conclusion: significant differences were observed comparing behavioral evaluation and ABR considering interpeak latency of waves I and V in the left ear and interaural difference I-V in the left ear.
