Mastocytosis is a rare disease caused by the proliferation and accumulation of mast cells in places that have connective tissue and marrow. The term mast cell leukemia is used to define the proliferation of neoplastic mast cells in the bone marrow. En el presente estudio se analizan las asignaturas obligatorias en lengua española relacionadas con la Didáctica de la Literatura Infantil y Juvenil en los grados de maestros en Educación Primaria de las universidades españolas a partir del análisis de los datos reflejados en sus planes docentes. Se obtuvo la información de 40 universidades españolas. Se examinaron diversos aspectos como el campo de conocimiento de origen (Didácticas específicas - Ciencias Sociales y Jurídicas, o Filología - Humanidades), su carácter obligatorio en el plan de estudio, el número de créditos asignados, la denominación como asignatura, así como los autores más citados en sus bibliografías. De este análisis eminentemente cuantitativo y descriptivo se extrajo la conclusión general de que existe una gran heterogeneidad en la presentación de las asignaturas. Todo ello puede deberse a la relativamente reciente creación de los departamentos de Didáctica de la Lengua y la Literatura en la universidad española, que repercute tanto en los esfuerzos por perimetrar el área, como en el progresivo acomodo epistemológico de la Literatura Infantil y Juvenil en los títulos donde se desarrolla.

El legado testimonial de Juan Jacobo Baegert, misionero jesuita de origen alemán con una larga experiencia en la península de California, ha sido usado en años posteriores como una fuente privilegiada para el conocimiento etnohistórico de los grupos indígenas que habitaban la región durante la etapa de conquista. En vista de los usos etnohistóricos que se le han dado a dicha obra, en este artículo me propongo discutir las influencias y el contexto intelectual, ideológico e histórico que influyeron en las intenciones y elecciones de su autor para escribir y publicar dicha obra. Este es un tema de importancia tanto para la memoria de los actuales habitantes de la península de Baja California. como para pensar críticamente los procesos de construcción del conocimiento etnohistórico en general, desde una perspectiva poscolonial.

Recent changes in our society have led to the denial of death, both at a social level and in the medical field particularly, using all the therapeutic procedures available in order to avoid it, and considering death as a failure of knowledge when it appears. Death cannot be delayed indefinitely and when it comes the most important is to ensure the necessary conditions to meet a peacefully death. The objective of this study was to analyze those aspects that could facilitate a death in peace according to the elderly, as well as analyze the influence of sociodemographic variables. 152 adults aged between 50 and 77 have completed the Dying in Peace Questionnaire. The results show as the most important aspects at the end of life for the elderly, those related to the closeness of loved ones, the control of physical suffering and the meaning of life. In contrast, the two least valued factors have been to believe in another life after death and to think that I may die at home. Differential analyses according to sociodemographic variables show statistically significant differences depending on whether or not the elderly suffered a disease close to death and on religious beliefs. Likewise, significant correlations have been found with age. To know those factors prioritized by elderly at the end of life, will allow us to offer a more tailored attention to their particular needs, bearing in mind possible individual differences.

El objetivo de la investigación es determinar mediante regresiones estadísticas las relaciones entre las características socioeconómicas de los alumnos de las carreras de grado de la Universidad Nacional del Nordeste (UNNE, Argentina) y sus resultados académicos, y compararlos con los hallazgos de estudios similares efectuados en otras universidades nacionales. Se encuentra evidencia contundente de que las variables de Nivel Socioeconómico (NSE) son significativas para explicar las diferencias de rendimiento académico entre los alumnos de las facultades analizadas. Las variables que se han utilizado como indicadores de NSE elevado han presentado una correlación positiva, y las variables que se emplearon como indicadores de NSE más bajo han presentado una correlación negativa. Las variables sexo femenino, edad, estado civil casado y situación laboral inactiva están asociadas a un mejor rendimiento académico, mientras que las variables cantidad de hijos del estudiante, situación laboral ocupado, situación laboral desocupado, ausencia de cobertura médica y beneficiario de planes sociales están relacionadas a menores desempeños académicos. En materia de género, el hallazgo más relevante se manifiesta en los resultados de las estudiantes mujeres con hijos: su rendimiento es notoriamente inferior al de los estudiantes hombres con hijos.

El encondroma protuberans es una entidad rara, solo se han descrito 14 casos en la bibliografía. Radiológicamente puede presentar dudas diagnósticas con un osteocondroma, condrosarcoma de bajo grado y condroma periostal. Presentamos el caso de un niño de cinco años con un encondroma protuberans en falange proximal que experimentó un crecimiento acelerado durante su seguimiento, además presentaba dos encondromas convencionales en la misma mano. Fue tratado mediante resección marginal, curetaje y relleno con autoinjerto óseo, sin evidencia de recidiva a los 12 meses de seguimiento.

Objective: To report the experience with OK-432 therapy for lymphangioma in children., Methods: Retrospective study of 19 children with lymphangioma treated with OK-432 in Ribeirão Preto, state of São Paulo, Brazil, between 1999 and 2003., Results: All patients presented response to OK-432, 12 had total shrinkage and seven had partial shrinkage varying from 50 to 80%. Patients had fever after injections of OK-432 for 2 to 10 days, no damage to the overlying skin was observed., Conclusion: OK- 432 is safe, effective and can be used as primary choice of treatment of patients with lymphangiomas because of the excellent response. In these cases surgery should not be necessary. In patients with partial regression new injections of OK-432 must be used to shrink the lesion. Thereby safely surgery could be made.

Objective: To analyze the epidemiology, diagnosis, clinical aspects causes and evolution of infectious endocarditis., Methods: The patients analyzed were treated at the University Hospital of the Faculdade de Medicina of Ribeirão Preto-USP and had a diagnosis of infectious endocarditis defined by Duke's criteria, which classifies infectious endocarditis as native, prosthetic valve or that occurring in intravenous drug users., Results: One hundred and eighty episodes of infectious endocarditis in 168 patients were observed. Echocardiograms in 132 (73.3%) provided a diagnosis of infectious endocarditis in 111 (84%) patients; mitral valves were affected in 55 (30.5%), tricuspid valves in 30 (16.6%) and the aortic valve in 28 (15.5%) patients. Hemocultures were performed in 148 (93.8%) episodes of IE. The most commonly isolated infectious organisms were Staphylococcus aureus in 46 (27.2%) patients and Streptococcus viridans in 27 (15.9%). Complications occurred in 116 (64.4%) patients and 73 (40.5%) of the patients died., Conclusion: The general profile of the observed infectious endocarditis was similar to that reported in studies performed in other countries and included users of intravenous drugs. The high degree of mortality observed is not compatible with progress in diagnosis and treatment of infectious endocarditis and is probably due to the absence of diagnostic suspicion. The high frequency of fatal cases of septicemia (45.1% of deaths) in the patients studied indicates that unnoticed cases of infectious endocarditis had only been diagnosed at necropsy.
