Objective: To assess the prevalence and determine the factors associated with Internet Addiction among Indian dental students. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 250 dental students from different academic years of the Institute of Dental Sciences, Bhubaneswar. Information on demographic characteristics, purpose, and duration of Internet use was recorded. Internet Addiction was assessed using Young’s 20-item Internet Addiction Test (IAT) questionnaire. Chi-square, One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), and Pearson’s Correlation tests were used for statistical analysis. The level of significance was set at p≤0.05. Results: The prevalence of Internet Addiction was found to be 20.4%. Third-year students showed the highest mean Internet Addiction (46.74 ± 10.26) score. Social networking was the main purpose of Internet use. Bivariate analysis showed that daily hours of Internet use were strongly associated with Internet Addiction, which was statistically significant (p=0.033). The major domains identified in our study towards the contribution of Internet Addiction were Dependence (10.74 ± 2.79) followed by Overuse (10.52 ± 2.58), Emotional state (9.70 ± 3.10), Inhibiting the Flow of Life (8.16 ± 2.74) and Non-restraint (6.37 ± 1.98). Conclusion: Internet Addiction often coexists with other psychological problems. Therefore, early interventions should be implemented, and students should be aware of the adverse effects of spending unnecessary time online.

Objective: To evaluate the antimicrobial activity of soyabean and pumpkin seeds methanolic extract against oral microbiome. Material and Methods: An in vitro study compared the antimicrobial activity of methanolic extract of soyabean and pumpkin seed along with 0.2% chlorhexidine (positive control) by Agar well diffusion method against Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus pyogenes, Staphylococcus aureus, Lactobacillus and Candida albicans. Suitable dilutions of each seed extract determined Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC). Qualitative phytochemical analysis and Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) was done to determine the phytochemical components. Results: Both the methanolic extracts showed the highest zone of inhibition, 26±0.31 mm and 24±0.82 mm, followed by 22±0.87 mm and 21±0.55 mm against Streptococcus mutans and Streptococcus pyogenes, respectively. The zone of inhibition was higher at concentrations in both extracts, which was not statistically significant (p>0.05). MIC values fluctuated from 1.56 to 4.5 mg/ml and 3.5 to 5.0 mg/ml for soyabean and pumpkin seed extract, respectively. Phytochemical analysis showed the presence of alkaloids, glycosides, terpenoids, tannins, and flavonoids. Conclusion: Both extracts were effective against S. mutans and S. pyogenes and contain compounds with therapeutic potential.

Objective: To assess the level of internet addiction and its impact on the academic performance of undergraduate dental students of Bhubaneswar. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive survey was steered among 814 undergraduate dental students (representing first year through internship) in Bhubaneswar, India. Internet addiction was assessed with the Internet Addiction Test (IAT) developed by Young, which consisted of 20 items rated on a 5-point Likert scale. Google Forms were used to collect the data. Statistical tests like Chi-square, Kruskal-Wallis, and Spearman correlation coefficient were used to analyze the qualitative and quantitative variables, respectively, with the significance level set at p ≤ 0.05. Results: The prevalence of Internet Addiction was found to be 27.5%. Interns showed the highest mean Internet Addiction (57.91±10.71) score. The proportion of addicted students was higher in males, 74 (31.4%), than in females, 150 (26%). The mean scores for individual domains were overuse (16.31±3.64), non-restraints (7.77±2.66), inhibiting the flow of life (9.52±3.05), emotional state (11.25±2.86), and dependence (10.47±2.53). A correlation coefficient (Spearman’s rho value of -.167) indicates a negative correlation between internet addiction and academic scores, which was statistically significant (p=0.001). Conclusion: This study revealed that internet use for varying purposes eventually leads to addiction and affects students’ academic performance. The affected students need early intervention and control over internet usage.

Objective: To improve the ability of psychiatry researchers to build, deploy, maintain, reproduce, and share their own psychophysiological tasks. Psychophysiological tasks are a useful tool for studying human behavior driven by mental processes such as cognitive control, reward evaluation, and learning. Neural mechanisms during behavioral tasks are often studied via simultaneous electrophysiological recordings. Popular online platforms such as Amazon Mechanical Turk (MTurk) and Prolific enable deployment of tasks to numerous participants simultaneously. However, there is currently no task-creation framework available for flexibly deploying tasks both online and during simultaneous electrophysiology. Methods: We developed a task creation template, termed Honeycomb, that standardizes best practices for building jsPsych-based tasks. Honeycomb offers continuous deployment configurations for seamless transition between use in research settings and at home. Further, we have curated a public library, termed BeeHive, of ready-to-use tasks. Results: We demonstrate the benefits of using Honeycomb tasks with a participant in an ongoing study of deep brain stimulation for obsessive compulsive disorder, who completed repeated tasks both in the clinic and at home. Conclusion: Honeycomb enables researchers to deploy tasks online, in clinic, and at home in more ecologically valid environments and during concurrent electrophysiology.

Purpose – If the two or more than two antennas are present in the antenna array, the mutual coupling between them becomes a critical issue to deal with. At microwave frequency, microstrip design is often used as a transmission line because of its good performance in transferring the energy and microwave signals. Most commonly used microstrip antenna has similar structure as that of the microstrip line. On one side of dielectric substrate layer, is an extremely thin layer of conductor that forms the radiating elements and on bottom side is the ground plane made up of metallic material. Our main motive is to maintain mutual coupling suppressing structure to its simplest form. Methodology/approach/design – We therefore use a Defected Ground Structure (DGS), which greatly decreases the mutual coupling between the two antennas, thus enhancing the performance of the antenna array. Findings – The introduction of the DGS does not affect the characteristics of antenna array system. The Simulation is done using CST (Computer Simulation Technology) software and the results are tested using Vector Network Analyzer. Both the simulated and measured results are in good agreement. The coupling has been reduced from -22 to -37 dB. The recent boom in wireless industry has led to the demand for the multiband antennas.

A mathematical model is proposed and analyzed for the understanding of growth pattern of mosquito vector looking into its life cycle. The objective of this study is to develop a mathematical model that can fit to the real data provided by DRDE scientist for different month at different stations so that the seasonal variation in population density of mosquitoes can be reported accurately to the estimated data obtained by the proposed mathematical model. The aquatic class $(L)$ and adult stage is divided in two class, indoor population $(I)$ and outdoor population $(O)$. Here we estimated different parameters of our proposed continuous model and numerically simulation is done to compare the estimated data with the original data.

In this paper, we proposed a three compartment model consisting of non-adopter, adopter and frustrated classes of population to discuss the influence of media coverage in spreading and controlling of adopter of a particular product in a region. The model exhibits two equilibria:(i) a adopter-free and (ii) unique interior equilibrium. Stability analysis of the model shows that the adopter-free equilibrium is always locally asymptotically stable if the influence number of adopter $(R_0)$, which depends on parameters of the system is less than unity. Otherwise if $R_0>1$, a unique interior equilibrium exists, it is locally asymptotically stable under some set of conditions. Further analytically and numerically it is observed that the region for backward bifurcation of adopter population increases with the decrease of the valid contact rate before media alert. Finally, numerically experimentations are presented to establish the effect of different media alert rate on adopter and non adopter population.

Interaction and physicochemical characterization of dispersions of naproxen in calcium carbonate after freeze-drying the wet-state equilibrated mixture have been investigated by analytical methods. The FT-IR study revealed the acid-base reaction between naproxen and calcium carbonate. The DSC study indicated physical interaction and significantly diminished crystallinity of naproxen in the formulation containing higher quantities of calcium carbonate. Furthermore, the SEM study showed the reduced particle size and loss of crystalline morphology in the same sample. Drug release increased with the increase of calcium carbonate in the formulations. Formulation of naproxen with calcium carbonate in 1:2 ratio allowed its dissolution to the greatest extent (94.96%) while other compositions, 1:0.5 and 1:1, showed 80.86% and 78.30% release, respectively.
