The Huashan Rock Art site is a cultural tourism site of considerable importance in the development of domestic tourism focusing on heritage and history. As a previously peripheral part of Chinese society, Huashan has a significant role in explaining to Chinese people the extent and complexity of their history. Yet development of the research site has been hampered by the lack of tourism infrastructure (e.g. managerial capacity, accommodation, transportation, integrated services and so forth) and the private sector is not well-positioned to make up for the shortfall. The situation compares unfavourably with other destinations in neighbouring provinces. Under these circumstances, a program of qualitative research was launched using in-depth personal interviews to investigate the means by which Huashan Rock Art site is being presented and promoted currently and how can that presentation lead to an emotional and ideological response. It was found that there is some interaction between the type and nature of presentation and the success of the site in terms of destination management and this interaction is explored.

Abstract This paper analyzes the efficiency of federal government funding for destination competitiveness and the relationship among destination competitiveness enhancement and local development. Destination competitiveness models provide the theoretical background. The research is exploratory and descriptive. We mapped the investments from Brazilian Ministry of Tourism in 65 destinations. Destination Competitiveness was measured with information from the Brazilian Competitiveness Model. Data were analyzed with data envelopment analysis and multiple regression analysis. Study findings demonstrate that competitiveness enhancement does not depend on the amount of funding, but on its strategic application according to destination development stage. Besides, competitiveness dimensions Marketing, Monitoring, and Cooperation are major drivers for local development.

The tourism sector has correspondingly attracted a great deal of interest from many researchers with particular focuses falling on tourismmanagement and witnessing exponential growth in the research on this field. Given this, the objective of this current study involves producing a chart of these scientific publications, identifying their intellectual structure and the research trends in tourism management. Our research thus seeks to contribute towards: (i) mapping the intellectual structure of research on tourism management as depicted in the academic literature, (ii) identifying the fundamental contributions made by the tourism management research field, (iii) determining the lines of research constituting its intellectual structure, (iv) identifying the scientific journals with the greatest impact on this area and (v) identifying the geographic distribution of knowledge, by universities and countries, and the collaborative structures.

An essential function of planning is to provide a strategy base that allows destinations to confront change successfully. This article focuses on the elaboration of a tourism planning method based essentially on the most effective procedures identified through an analysis of the contributions of various authors who suggest methods of proved efficiency. The result is an original system that incorporates the strengths and avoids the weaknesses of the proposals analysed while adapting it to the Brazilian context and applying it to a specific case study (Caldas Novas in Goias). The proposal is structured on the basis of two key priorities: a physical focus guided towards environmental sustainability; and a social focus reinforcing the role of the receiving community in the tourist experience.

The study of memorable tourism experiences (MTEs) has become increasingly critical because of the fiercely competitive marketplace. MTEs are the consequence of deep emotions felt during a tourist activity. MTEs are important since they constitute a crucial information source for the tourists' behavioral intentions. Destination image, perceived value, and overall satisfaction represent preponderant factors concerning the tourists' loyalty behavior that destination managers seek to promote. Regarding this, this study aims to identify and evaluate the impact of MTEs, ID, overall satisfaction, and perceived value of tourists' loyalty behavior to a destination. The character of this investigation is descriptive-explanatory, it employs a quantitative mono-method study and a non-probabilistic convenience sampling technique. The outcomes indicate that MTE positively influences ID, overall satisfaction, perceived value, and intention to recommend. MTE did not influence the intention to revisit the destination. ID, perceived value, and satisfaction are predictors of behavioral intentions. ID is the most significant determinant of the intention to revisit, and global satisfaction is the most significant determinant of the intention to recommend. At the academic level, the present study contributes to the enrichment of present knowledge, by being a pioneer investigation, which sustains the positive influence of MTE on perceived value. At the corporate level, it is crucial for destination managers and marketers to design and develop tourism programs that provide ETMs, communicate these programs highlighting the high value obtained from an ETM, and evaluate the destination tourism offerings. info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

Nowadays, all over the world, the tourism activity presents itself as an activity which is growing rapidly, able to create significant economic flows and new development opportunities. Portugal and the region of Serra da Estrela, in the context of an open and globalised economy, aren’t on the side lines of this phenomenon.Discussing tourism and planning implies, inevitably, speaking of resources, their management and the economic development they provide to each territory. The higher or lower attractiveness a tourist destination presents depends on the way the resources, qualitatively representative, relate to each other. It is in this symbiosis that the practice of planning in tourism assumes its true importance under the present approach to tourism. The planning activity is stro ng and essential to a proper and proficient management of tourist destinations. In this sense, it puts in evidence the tourist potential inherent to the Serra da Estrela region, namely from its most attractive features, evaluating the impact that the planning and proper management of tourism resources can have on the economic and social transformation of the region.https://doi.org/10.14195/0871-1623_35_2, A atividade do turismo apresenta-se, hoje, por todo o mundo, como uma atividade em franco crescimento, capaz de gerar fluxos económicos significativos e novas oportunidades de desenvolvimento.
