Despite most Portuguese people tend to get older in their homes, measures to promote aging in place continue to have poor public visibility when compared to the attention given to institutional solutions. As a necessary approach to promoting healthy aging, valuing aging in place strategies means responding to the needs of older people based on the contexts in which they live. In practice, this means not removing people from where they live to provide them with what they need but creating conditions there so that their needs are met as they age. It is precisely to verify «how this can be done» the main purpose of this paper, first through a discussion of the concept of “aging in place” and then by the analysis of concrete dimensions of operationalization of this concept, both in Portugal and in other countries. This paper aims to revisit and systematize the concepts of Economic Development and Developmentalism. The hypothesis raised by the research is that due to the historical-social procedurality of Economic Sciences, the terms Economic Development and Developmentalism can be categorized differently by epistemological and didactic option nowadays. The article opted to perform a bibliographic study. The methodological procedures for selecting the references were bibliographic research focused on the authors with historical, concrete and inductive analysis of the economy and the phenomenon of economic development. The results obtained are that the terms Economic Development and Developmentalism can be categorized differently, one as a concept used by several schools of economic thought; other as a School of Economic Thought, which has four theoretical currents (Classical Developmentalism, Social Developmentalism, New Developmentalism, Socialist Market Developmentalism). The construction industry accounts for the largest share of consumption of natural resources among all other areas, about 50%. Consequently is also the largest generator of waste. One of these tailings is red ceramic, which due to its fragility break easily generate large amount of debris. This project aimed to examine the possibility of reuse of waste as aggregate for concrete comparing their physical and mechanical properties, with conventional concrete. We compared the behaviors of different traits in concrete with a gradual replacement of 20% of natural coarse aggregate by recycled aggregate red ceramic to achieve 100% recycled aggregate, evaluating possible changes in density, absorption and voids, as well as the mechanical compression. The reference concrete results presented in the order of 25 MPa at 28 days of age, since the concrete produced with recycled aggregates showed lower results of the compressive strength of up to 30%. The other indices also suffered physical changes as the slump that had values 4 times higher, the level of absorption and voids which increased 2-3 three times in concrete with recycled aggregate. This happens due to the difference between the densities of crushed stone and ceramics. Although the ceramic adversely affect the mechanical properties, this difference becomes lighter concrete, or decreases its specific weight, which may be favorable in some situations.
