- Abstract
O Alzheimer's is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that manifests itself through impaired cognitive function and short-term memory, as well as a variety of neuropsychiatric symptoms and behavioral changes that get worse over time. Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of dementia and the pathophysiological mechanism responsible for triggering the disease is not yet known, but it is believed to be a genetically determined disease. The symptom that most refers to the diagnosis is the recent memory loss, however, other manifestations are able to refer us to the diagnosis, such as the repetition of the same question several times, aggressiveness and irritability. This work was based on a bibliographical research of works, preferably published in the last ten years, in English, Spanish and Portuguese. Thus, the paper seeks to perform a concise review of the subject, addressing, mainly, the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
