Objetivou-se avaliar as características dos tibiotarsos de frangos de corte fêmeas. As variáveis analisadas foram os pesos in natura, secos e desengordurados, o comprimento, os diâmetros, a resistência óssea, o índice de Seedor (IS), os percentuais de proteínas colagenosas (PC), as proteínas não colagenosas (PNC), os minerais (cálcio, fósforo, potássio e sódio) e as cinzas. Foram utilizadas 648 aves, da marca comercial Cobb®, em um delineamento em blocos ao acaso, com seis tratamentos e seis repetições, com 18 aves por unidade experimental. Os tratamentos consistiram na suplementação de 0,00; 0,50; 1,00; 1,50; 2,00 e 2,50 μg de 1,25-dihidroxivitamina-D 3 (1,25(OH) 2 D 3 )/kg de ração. Aos 21 e 35 dias de idade, as aves foram pesadas e uma ave por unidade experimental (UE) com o peso médio da UE foi eutanasiada para a obtenção dos tibiotarsos e subsequente análise dos parâmetros ósseos. As variáveis métricas, bem como a composição orgânica (PC), a densidade (IS) e a resistência à quebra dos ossos das aves, não foram influenciadas pelos tratamentos. No recebimento de 2,50 μg de 1,25(OH) 2 D 3 /kg de ração, observou-se maior retenção mineral (cinzas) nos ossos das aves aos 35 dias de idade. This study aimed to evaluate the characteristics of tibiotarsus of female broilers. The variables analyzed were the weights in natura, dry and degreased, length, diameter, bone strength, Seedor index, percentage of collagenous protein (CP), non-collagenous proteins (NCP), minerals (calcium, phosphorus, potassium and sodium), and ash. Six hundred forty-eight, Cobb® birds were used, a design of randomized blocks with six treatments and six replicates of 18 birds each. The treatments consisted of supplementation of 0.00; 0.50; 1.00; 1.50; 2.00 to 2.50 μg of 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin-D 3 (1,25(OH) 2 D 3 )/kg of ration. At 21 and 35 days of age the birds were weighed and a unit/experimental unit (EU) with the EU average weight was euthanized to obtain the tibiotarsos and subsequent analysis of the bone parameters. The metric variables, as well as the organic composition (CP), density (IS) and resistance to breakage of the bones of the birds were not affected by treatments. Upon reception of 2.50 μg of 1,25(OH) 2 D 3 /kg ration, there was a higher mineral retention (ashes) in the bones of female broilers at 35 days of age.

O delineamento experimental utilizado foi o inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 4 × 2 (níveis de Pd e sexos) com três repetições de 20 aves. Os níveis de fósforo disponível avaliados foram: 0,25; 0,36; 0,47 e 0,58% na fase inicial; 0,18; 0,31; 0,44 e 0,57% na fase de crescimento; e 0,14; 0,27; 0,40 e 0,53% na fase final. Foram avaliados o ganho de peso, consumo de ração, consumo de Pd, conversão alimentar, teores de fósforo, cálcio e cinzas na tíbia e resistência à quebra óssea. de acordo com os resultados, o nível ótimo de Pd na ração na fase inicial, para machos e fêmeas são de 0,39 e 0,49%, que correspondem ao consumo de 3,94 e 3,96 g de Pd/ave, respectivamente. Para a fase de crescimento, recomenda-se 0,35% de Pd na ração para aves de ambos os sexos, que correspondem a consumo de 8,45 e 6,70 g de Pd/ave. Na fase final, recomendam-se os níveis de 0,32 e 0,30% de Pd, que correspondem a consumos de 12 e 9,5 g de Pd/ave para machos e fêmeas, respectivamente. It was performed three trials to determine the nutritional levels of available phosphorus (aP) for males and females of the strain ISA Label in the starter (1 to 28 days), growing (28 to 56 days) and finisher (56 to 84 days) phases, reared in a free-range system. In each trial, 480 birds with age corresponding to rearing phase were housed in 24 experimental units with shelter and pasture areas. It was used a complete random experimental design, in a 4 × 2 factorial scheme (levels of aP and sexes) with three replicates of 20 birds. The levels of aP evaluated were the following: 0.25, 0.36, 0.47 and 0.58% in the starter phase; 0.18, 0.31, 0.44 and 0.57% in the growing phase; and 0.14, 0.27, 0.40 and 0.53% in the finisher phase. Body weight gain, feed intake, aP intake, feed conversion, contents of phosphorus, calcium and ash in the tibia and bone breaking strength were evaluated. According to results, the optimum dietary aP levels in the starter phase, for males and females, are 0.39 and 0.49%, which correspond to the intake of 3.94 and 3.96 g of aP/bird, respectively. For the growing phase, it is recommended 0.35% of aP in the diet for birds of both sexes, which correspond to an intake of 8.45 and 6.70 g of aP/bird. In the finisher phase, it is recommended the levels 0.32 and 0.30% of aP, which corresponds to intakes of 12 g and 9.5 g aP/bird for males and females, respectively. As observações na microestrutura, realizadas com microscópio eletrônico de transmissão, foram semelhantes aos resultados obtidos na força de ruptura do músculo medidos com o texturômetro. Os valores da força da ruptura foram menores para a carne após o resfriamento. Observou-se que as fibras do colágeno do tecido conectivo pericelular se desintegraram e que as do colágeno do tecido conectivo do miocommata conservaram sua arquitetura e integridade. Houve pouca degradação da linha Z. Isso sugere que o amolecimento post-mortem da carne de mantrinxã, durante a estocagem a -3°C, é causado pela degradação do tecido conectivo pericelular. In order to determine the mechanisms that cause the post mortem muscle softness of the matrinxã Brycon cephalus, changes in the micro structure of the muscle were observed immediately after death and after 12 hours of storage at -3º C, measuring the firmness of the flesh with test instruments. Observations by the transmission electron microscope were similar to the results obtained in the breaking strength of the muscle measured with a texturometer. The values of the breaking strength of the fish muscle were smaller after chilling. At the same time, it was observed that the collagen fibers of the pericellular connective tissue had disintegrated, while the collagen fibers of the miocommata connective tissue maintained their organization and integrity. No evident breakdown of Z-discs was observed. It is suggested that the post-mortem tenderization of the matrinxã muscle during chilled storage was due to the disintegration of the collagen fibers in the pericellular connective tissue and, in a smaller extent, to the weakening of Z-disk. Objetivo: Avaliar o efeito da oxigenoterapia hiperbárica na cicatrização da anastomose esôfagojejunal em ratos gastrectomizados. Material e Métodos: Foram operados 40 ratos Wistar, adultos machos, com peso entre 322g e 506g. Os animais foram divididos aleatoriamente em dois grupos. No grupo A (controle), 20 ratos foram submetidos à gastrectomia total. No grupo B, 20 ratos foram igualmente gastrectomizados e receberam tratamento pósoperatório com oxigenoterapia hiperbárica por 90 minutos/dia durante sete dias. Todos os ratos foram sacrificados no oitavo dia de pós-operatório e avaliados de acordo com as seguintes variáveis em estudo:a) presença ou não de fístula anastomótica; b) avaliação da cicatrização da anastomose esôfagojejunal através da medida da força de ruptura à tração na linha da sutura segundo Hendriks & Mastboom; c) determinação da concentração de colágeno na anastomose, pelos critérios de Kovács. INTRODUCTION: The Brazilian popular habit of using plants to treat several health conditions is ancient. Passion fruit (Passiflora edulis) is widely used to treat, usually in an empiric basis, a variety of medical conditions. Anti-inflammatory activity of Passiflora edulis extract, similar to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID's), has been described. PURPOSE: To evaluate the effect of Passiflora edulis extract hidroalcoolical on the healing of midline abdominal incisions in rats by morphological and tensiometric methods. METHODS: Forty male Wistar rats were randomly allocated into two groups to either receive Passiflora edulis extract (study group, P) or saline (control group, C) intraperitoneally, in a single isovolumetric dose, after a standardized ventral midline laparotomy had been performed. The twenty rats of the control group as well as those twenty of the study group were divided into subgroups according to the time of sacrifice, either the 3rd PO day (P3, C3) or the 7th PO day (P7, C7). On day three and on day seven after surgery, the rats were sacrificed and the wound area was excised by a standardized protocol. The healing process of the specimens was evaluated macroscopically and histologically. The tensile strength was evaluated by a constant speed computerized tensiometer to determine the breaking strength and the deformation of the healing incision. RESULTS: The macroscopic examination did not show significant differences between study and control groups. Histologically, the C3 vs. P3 comparison showed the following differences: for the variables acute inflammation (p=0.045 in favor of C3), colagenization and capillary neoformation: p=0.001 e 0.001, respectively in favor of P3. Similarly, the C7 vs. P7 comparison showed the following differences for the variables acute inflammation (p=0.002 in favor of C7), chronic inflammation and capillary neoformation: p= 0.006 e 0.001, respectively in favor of P7. Tensiometrically, maximal breaking strength (Cmax) on day seven of the study group was higher when compared to control group, (6.91 ± 1.36 vs. 5.05 ± 1.63, p=0.013). Maximal deformation strength (Dmax) on day seven of the study group was higher when compared to control group (36.49 ± 4.61 vs. 26.19 ± 5.74, p=0.001). CONCLUSION: Passiflora edulis extract enhances the healing of midline abdominal incisions in rats, especially the histological and tensiometric aspects.
