Memory activism can be understood as a type of activism that aims to promote a greater diversity of stories in the public sphere, assuming that strategic reflections on the past and memory are crucial ways of transforming society. These reflections can take place in the most diverse contexts, such as protests in the streets or through the media, based on the long-silenced stories of people and social groups who have been discriminated against. In this article, we reflect on how cinema can constitute a space for memory activism by representing narratives of otherness and shedding light on social issues of great importance, such as migratory experiences, which have currently taken centre stage in audiovisual productions. To do this, we carried out an exploratory analysis of publicly funded film production in Portugal from 2018 to 2022 in order to analyse its main themes. All the synopses of films and other audiovisual productions (359) published during this period in the catalogues of the Instituto do Cinema e Audiovisual (ICA) and available online were collected. This textual material was analysed using Iramuteq software. The analysis indicated the absence of terms such as "racism" or "social discrimination" in the synopses, even in productions that addressed these issues when portraying migratory experiences. Among the main themes were (i) artistic production and the arts in general, (ii) daily life and interpersonal relationships (e.g., family, friendship, love) and (iii) historical memory and conflicts. We also explored in more detail the short films produced during this period (120), which allowed us to identify counter-hegemonic narratives, reinforcing the role that cinema can play in combating societal amnesias. We will see how in Plato’s Phaedrus there are initially two types of desires, one of which would be the epithymía desire and the other would be the hímeros desire, the latter being a noble desire, portrayed exclusively in Socrates’ palinody. We will study the semantic field associated with each of these desires within the three initial recitations of the dialogue, discerning the nature of each of them, their potential, direction and unfolding. The dialogue highlights the controlled enunciation of these desires in the Platonic conceptual plot, when Phaedrus draws Socrates’ attention to this remarkable aspect of the use of words (tois onómasin, Phdr. 234c7) in Lysias’ recitation, just as Socrates at the end of the Palinody reaffirms the poetic vocabulary (tois onómasin, Phdr. 257a5) to which he has been submitted. In this way, a physiological reading emerges, discerning the statics, movements and directions of the desires and friendships described, as well as their qualities and quantities. Neste artigo, pretendemos explorar a análise de Aristóteles sobre a amizade, examinando os três objetos de amizade - a virtude, a utilidade e o prazer. Explicaremos também por que razão estes três objetos da amizade colocam um desafio à definição da amizade como uma entidade comum e singular, a saber, como uma benevolência recíproca e consciente dotada de efeitos práticos. Mostra-se que os objetos da amizade são parte integrante do tipo de relação pessoal que a amizade constitui, tornando impossível uma definição comum.

In this article, I propose novel answers to three longstanding questions in the scholarship on Plato’s Crito: (1) Why does Socrates choose to respond to Crito in the second part of the conversation by using a speech?; (2) Why does this speech employ personification?; and (3) Why are the Laws, specifically, personified ? The answers to these questions will reveal Socrates’ method of treating Crito and his worldview. The latter considers himself to be a good man for a twofold reason, namely, he is concerned not only about helping a friend but also about the possible negative consequences of doing so. Crito takes care not to harm anyone while saving his friend and wishes to use only legitimate means. But Socrates will ultimately show Crito how, in fact, he uses violence to achieve his goals; how he harms others in the process, and how he is not nearly as good a friend as he believes himself to be. The result is a new way of looking at the dialogue, and of Plato’s message in composing it.

Joseph Raz became well-known for his concept of exclusionary reasons, which he applied in the analysis of various practical concepts, such as decisions, rules and obligations. However, the scholarly literature displays a high degree of skepticism regarding the existence of exclusionary reasons and even the coherence of the concept itself. Throughout his work, Raz consistently focused on two types of exclusionary reasons: directly motivational reasons and evidential ones. The concept has faced numerous criticisms, likely stemming from this particular focus. In this article, I emphasize another category of exclusionary reasons that Raz neglected: reasons that are excluded by their very nature. I argue that this category not only shows that the concept is not empty or inconsistent, but also plays a crucial role in elucidating a significant moral domain, specifically, the domain of affective relationships.

This article presents some initial contributions on (re) thinking the major challenges facing Latin American society, reconstructing its historical features and its contemporary challenges. It also presents possible ways of reconstructing the present and the possibility of reconverting to ways of life, cultures and values that have their roots in ancestral peoples. It looks to Good Living, Food Sovereignty and agroecology, the principles of which are in line with the teachings announced by Pope Francis in his encyclicals Fratelli Tutti and Laudatto Si, for hope of a better world. Based on the phenomenology developed by Edmund Husserl, especially his writing from the 1930s, we intend to establisch a dialogue with the thoughts of Pope Francis expressed in the Encyclical Fratelli Tutti. They are two characters in the story separated by a century, however, both manifests in the face of the irrationality of the world are not only similar, but share the same aspirations. In this way, by showing a phenomenologu of social friendship based on the return to the word of life and the development of intersubjective experience, we arrive at the final proposal of an aspiration to ethical love, to social love. This article aims to analyze the relationship between fraternity and interreligious dialogue and its respective relevance for the construction of a new culture. The text aims to understand the evolution of the term “solidarity” within Pope Francis’ magisterial theology until the writing of the encyclical letter Fratelli tutti. Enriched with the global adjective, the term solidarity for Francis is translated as a real and profound critique towards global divisions and inequalities, in the pursuit of an inclusive and empathetic love inspired by St. Francis of Assis. Therefore, the idea of solidarity that seeks to become “global” is not reduced to charitable aid only, but must be concretized as co-participation in the pain and common destiny of humanity. The encyclical proposes a “social friendship” that recognizes the dignity of all, seeking to transcend polarizations and ultranationalisms. Francis seeks the promotion of forms of dialog between local and global instances, avoiding abstract universalisms and/or stagnant localisms. The article discusses the change in Jorge Dias' team activity starting in 1960, with Ernesto Veiga de Oliveira and Fernando Galhano taking over the research. Jorge Dias gradually distanced himself due to his interest in publications synthesizing Portuguese culture and his involvement in university teaching. However, he continued to closely follow the research of Veiga de Oliveira, Galhano, and Benjamim Pereira. There is still little knowledge about the role of friendship within the social support network in eating disorders (EDs). This integrative review aimed to analyze the scientific production about friendship relationships in people with EDs. The literature review was conducted using the PubMed/MEDLINE, LILACS, PsycINFO, Web of Science, and EMBASE databases in the period from 2010 to 2020. Among the 1126 articles retrieved, 15 met the eligibility criteria, most with a qualitative approach and cross-sectional design, without indicating a theoretical framework. The qualitative aspects of friendship were associated with a reduced frequency and intensity of symptoms when the bond was considered to be of good quality. On the other hand, friendships that involved derogatory comments and negative influences related to body image and eating habits emerged as potential risk factors for triggering disorders. Investing in the quality of peer relationships can contribute to strengthening the social safety net and reducing the psychosocial vulnerability of adolescents at higher risk for developing EDs. Drawing upon gender studies, feminist theory, and film analysis, we examine Mi amiga del parque (Ana Katz, 2015) with the aim of investigating how film genres are questioned as part of a critique of class and gender relations. We argue that the feminist mark of Katz’s cinema brings about an attitude which is akin to the act of listening: it does not promote a lecture-like verbiage, but amplifies a keen perception of social repetition processes. The film’s anticipatory position not only rejects univocal, closed, self-contained or propaganda-like rhetoric, but also contributes to the extremely vital presentation of structural and ideological conflicts expressed in family and social contradictions, starting with the relationships between women. Our conclusions show the profound innovation regarding genres linked to the positing of new gender relations that resist patriarchal capitalist ties.

Friendship is a universal and proper phenomenon of the human condition that is born of the free offer of oneself to launch itself into the mystery of the other. Through it, the men become capable of finding a way to their humanization. This article portrays the role of friendship, especially in the digital age and the ways that Christians must go through to reach their identity in this relevant mean of communication, that overcomes the distance to allow the encounter. However, this technology never determines a society, it is what makes its choices.

The text discusses Byzantine epistolography, that is, the study of letters written during the Byzantine Empire. It addresses the contexts in which these letters were written, from the definition of what a letter is to the theoretical discussion of its norms and characteristics. The text also presents works and authors of Syrian letters from Late Antiquity and the Middle Ages, and discusses the different forms and functions that Byzantine letters could have, such as rhetoric, diplomacy, didactics, and philosophy. The text highlights the importance of letters as a means of communication and maintenance of social relations, and analyzes Byzantine epistolography, highlighting three thematic categories: letters of spiritual, technical, and political-moral content. Friendship is a recurring theme in the letters, which serve as a means of communication between friends separated by distance. Objective: to verify the factors associated with high tolerance in friendships during the academic period. Methods: cross-sectional, analytical study carried out with 151 nursing students from two private educational institutions with collection of sociodemographic data and application of an instrument for assessing tolerance in friendship relationships. Analysis performed using descriptive statistics and linear regression, using the backward method. Results: there is a predominance of female, single and Catholic students. The students have an average age of 22.8 years and 1.3 children. Recognizing that it is difficult to live with you, apologizing even if you are not wrong and believing that friendship is accepting the other person as they are were contributing factors to high tolerance. In addition, the number of children contributes to increasing tolerance in friendly relationships. Conclusion: the high tolerance in friendship relationships is important not only for staying in nursing courses, but for establishing effective interpersonal bonds, which reflects in team behavior because it is related to professional interdependence and multidisciplinarity contributing to the provision of care in the various health services. The article focuses on pages of Der Begriff des Politischen, in which Schmitt elaborates his definition of the enemy as "criterion of the politician." It mentions friendship should be so intimately connected with war, as to get confused with and almost identify with, is something suggested by the epigraph which opens the preface added to the reprint of the text in 1963. It also mentions casual or dependent changes of historical development of military technique and weapons.

Socrates in the Lysis discusses philia and the conditions under which two or more people can be said to engage in this relationship. Many commentators take Socrates to be attempting to discover how human beings enter into the relationship of friendship, a relationship characterized by reciprocal affection, altruistic concern and personal intimacy. Other readers of the Lysis see in the dialogue’s investigation of philia a discussion of desire and attraction at the most general level. On this view, philia is one species of the general human desire for good. The present paper develops a third reading of philia. Philia is a type of partnership or fellowship where affection and intimacy are not central features of the relationship. The fellowship involves at least one party who possesses wisdom while other members of the fellowship seek to benefit from wisdom. Thus philia is a characteristically human response to the need for wisdom. The members of such a fellowship share a common desire for a good which gives purpose to their association, and because of their common desire to benefit from this good the members can be described as fellows or partners in the pursuit of this good.

This paper argues that the account of friendship (philia) present in Plato's dialogue the Lysis is rife with the disruptive and maddening force of eros. By its end it is no longer clear whether the familiar sorts of personal relationships that we typically count as friendships, and which Aristotle discusses with great sensitivity and appreciation in the Nicomachean Ethics, can be meaningfully sustained. To support this thesis, the paper analyzes each of the seven, relatively self-contained arguments Socrates offers. In addition, it shows how the dramatic context in which these arguments are embedded foreshadows the dialogue's principal objective: to blur the distinction between philia and eros by allowing the latter to infect the former.

The two most compelling accounts of the friend in Plato’s Lysis are that the neither good nor bad is friend of the good and that the akin is friend of the akin. In this paper I challenge a common interpretation that these accounts are the same, similar to, or compatible with one another. I argue instead that the two accounts are incompatible because they rely on opposing assumptions about the nature of desire and its relationship to need and about friendship and its orientation towards what benefits the one who loves. Although I do not offer a comprehensive interpretation of the dialogue, I argue that, given his main assumptions about the friendship, desire, and philosophy in the Lysis, Socrates could only endorse first of these accounts, that the neither good nor bad is a friend of the good, if indeed endorses any of them.

Many scholars consider that Socrates in the Lysis holds that friendship and love are egoistic and utility-based. In this paper, I will argue against those readings of Plato’s Lysis. I will analyze how Socrates treats utility and egoism in the many different kinds of friendship he discusses in the dialogue, from parental love, like-to-like, and unlike-to-unlike relationships, to the accounts of friendship rooted in the human relation to the good and the ways in which we can belong with some other human beings. The upshot of my paper is twofold. I endeavor to prove that some of these relationships, as Plato’s Socrates discusses them, are not egoistic and that Plato represents and valorizes a particular type of friendship having to do with philosophy and philosophical way of life, which is for the sake of another.

In the Lysis, Socrates claims to be looking for an account of what kind of quality in another person or object stimulates friendship or love (philia). He goes through a series of proposals, refuting each in turn. In the end, he throws us back to the point from where the arguments started, declaring an aporetic outcome. What is the purpose of this apparently futile and circular inquiry? Most interpreters try to reconstruct a theory of friendship or love from the arguments of this dialogue. Against such a doctrinal reading, this essay defends an “aporetic reading” of the dialogue and connects it to its protreptic function. Starting with a preliminary discussion of what defines an aporetic dialogue and what distinguishes indirect protreptic from explicit protreptic discourse, the essay then analyzes the aporetic method of the Lysis, distinguishing it from aporetic discourse in some of his earlier dialogues. Finally, it analyzes how, and for what kind of audience, the Lysisfunctions as an indirect protreptic. This includes a comparison with the protreptic use of aporetic argumentation in the Euthydemus.

This article analyzes the work of Manuel de Oliveira Lima about Brazilian independence. It focuses on the problem of how his work profited from other ideas available at his epoch and, at the same time, give a strong contribution to these ideas to come along the XXth and XXIth centuries. Four ideas are analyzed here: the role of biographies in history; the emergence of Brazilian nationality; the “Grito do Ipiranga”; and Brazilian Independence and a sort of “friendship divorce”. This article aims to describe and analyze social networking among farmers in a municipality in the state of Ceará. For this, the social networking of two farmers and their contacts were mapped, totaling eight participants. For data collection, interviews, observation and the name generator technique for mapping social networking were used. For data analysis, network indicators were used with the help of Ucinet and NetDraw softwares and Content Analysis. The results showed that the two work networks make use of friendship and kinship ties for their functioning, mobilizing social capital to make rural production viable in a configuration similar to socio-productive networks. However, they present differences, since one of the networks is more developed, with more diversified ties and a greater number of paid work relationships and hierarchy. The conclusion is that the networks are part of the organization of the work of farmers and make the production of agricultural goods viable, either through help to carry out activities, or through access to more varied information and resources. This essay makes the affective cases of school an invitation to curricular conversations to think about the body in its potentialities and freedoms. To do so, it works from fables of the body framed by a fictional camera that follows the processes of narratives of the body within the school. In light of the premise that the body is just another institutional tool in opposition to the controlling and prescriptive curriculum, the essay aims to subvert the logics that underlie the discussions around bodily affectivities. It uses the discussion on the heterocentric production of genders and sexualities and proposes to ask how each affective production is always a momentary and provisional arrangement. Finally, they express the power of minute policies that affirm lives in difference through scenes of friendship networks that altered the landscapes of some schools, which question the possibilities of corporeal existence. The understanding of childhood changes along with the development and changes of society and the social paradigm. Consequently, the child's understanding and acceptance of the role of participation in personal upbringing and education changes, while respecting the child's right to express and respect his/her opinion. This research is aimed at understanding the children’s perspective, their subjective experience of current and long-term wellbeing. It was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Faculty of Teacher Education in Zagreb, and implemented in accordance with the Code of Ethics for Research with Children (2003), with the consent of children and their parents. The concept of wellbeing is considered in the dimensions of personal satisfaction, and social and educational achievement. The opinions of 63 children, age 5 to primary school enrollment was surveyed. A qualitative research paradigm was used, which included children’s expressions through drawings and narrative ethnographical research. The research findings indicate that children recognize subjective wellbeing through play and social interactions (friendships and family relationships). They recognize the importance of learning as a personal present and long-term benefit. They perceive the ECE setting as a safe place that has appropriate conditions for their residence. Some children emphasize the importance of a sense of security. It is possible to assume that the perception of children in the sample is related to the current epidemiological situation.

How do animal companions contribute to (re)shape human personal communities, understood as personal networks of meaningful others inhabiting our micro-social worlds? In a research about friendship ties in Portugal, animal companions emerged spontaneously as relevant members of the participants' personal maps. This article explores this topic by drawing on 30 in-depth interviews with men and women, aged 21 to 65, living in Greater Lisbon, and focusing on one particular angle: the ways animals enter the personal communities they are part of. BACKGROUND: This is an account of the experience of a dance group during the social isolation imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic. With the disruption of the dance classes, the group had to reinvent itself. OBJECTIVE: To report the experience of a middle-aged women dance group that was formed over 15 years ago during the 2020 pandemic, showing how the group managed to productively maintain their dance related activities and come up with creative actions to strengthen the relationship between the participants. METHODS: Several challenges were unpretentiously launched and done during the quarantine which ended up giving a lot of meaning to this time of isolation experienced in 2020. RESULTS: There were 12 different activities that were carried out with great creativity, excitement and engagement, which contributed to maintaining the dance activities, friendship, relaxation and joy of the group. In addition, two dance routines were made and rehearsed during the online and in person classes. CONCLUSION: Considering all the difficulties that came along with 2020, we can infer that this was a very productive year and one of great proximity between the members of the group, despite being physically distant. The present research aims to analyze the ecclesial experience of Saint Teresa of Jesus, her painful experience and the ecclesial context marked by the Protestant Reformation. Then, her mystical itinerary is discussed, in which it is noticed that her ecclesial consciousness is expanding to the point of understanding herself as a daughter of the Church. The aim of this study is to analyze, above all, the eminently Christological character of Teresian ecclesiology. This article aims to discuss some conditions of possibility for the analysis of amefrican2 works produced by women, centered on universes of experiences of the crossing narrated from the point of view of black subjects in the Diaspora process. In this sense, we selected a literary corpus composed of works by Maria Firmina dos Reis (2004), Conceição Evaristo (2017; 2019) and Ana Maria Gonçalves (2018). Studies on the transatlantic traffic and the crossing on the slave ship are addressed, as well as the dialogue between theoretical and historical knowledge on the subject and literary productions in the face of the sequestration and crossing experience. We take the metaphor of the archipelago, proposed by Édouard Glissant (2014), as a foundation for the construction of the methodology that will subsidize the discussion carried out. Our argument proposes the hypothesis of an Atlantic as a cemetery and, particularly, as a cemetery of our Others, to which the selected corpus -- as part of a broader set of amefrican literatures of female authorship -- allows us to access processes of recomposition of fragmented memories in the crossing. This essay analyses language and communication in two of Shakespeare’s plays, drawing on the idea of verbal usury. In one case it considers the impossibility of communication, and in the other the inability of communication - respectively in The Merchant of Venice and in Timon of Athens. To do so, it looks at how metaphoric language is used quite literally in both plays, especially in an environment where financial vocabulary (everything concerning debt, bonds, money, usury, interest) is intimately related, and is used interchangeably, with personal relationships, whether of love or friendship, as well as economic and commercial relations.
