Abstract: The main objective of the study is to develop and test a model that emphasizes the relationship between entrepreneurial orientation (EO) and managerial capacity (MC) to the performance of dairy farms. This article also examines the effect of these variables on performance expectations as well as the succession planning of farms. Cross-sectional data were collected out of a sample of 158 dairy farmers in 2017 in Brazil. A path analysis approach has been applied to validate the hypothesized model. Results show that between EO dimensions, innovativity has the greatest impact on performance as well as on MC. MC is not significantly related to the current performance on dairy farms, but it is so to the performance expectation, which in turn has an impact on the succession planning of farms. The age of the farmers moderates the relations hypothesized in the model, especially between innovativity, proactivity, and MC in the farms’ performance.

DAIRY cattle , *LIVESTOCK diseases , *PROTOZOAN diseases , *DAIRY farmers , *DAIRY farms , *PARASITES - Abstract
Neosporosis is a worldwide disease caused by a protozoan (Apicomplexa, Sarcocystidae), called Neospora caninum (N. caninum). In Latin America was diagnosed in Uruguay, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Paraguay and Peru. In Uruguay, the prevalence in dairy cattle is undetermined, with only a few reports in some areas from medium and large farmers. The main of this study was to determine the presence of serologically positive animals against N. caninum in small dairy farmers in critical context from central region of Uruguay (Departments of Durazno and Tacuarembó). Using a commercial ELISA kit, 734 sera of adult dairy cows were analyzed, resulting in 211 positive (28.8%), 517 negative (70.5%) and six animals with uncertain outcome (0.7%). The results demonstrated the exposure of cattle to the parasite, which is the first serological survey of N. caninum in basins of small dairy farmers in critical context in Uruguay. -------------------------------------------------The present paper aims to diagnose the degree of technologic qualification of the dairy farmers affiliate to the Cooperativa Mista Agropecuária de Patos de Minas Ltda. (COOPATOS). As regards the methodology, it is concerned with a field research, of descriptive and quantitative nature, the data of which were collected by means of a semi-structured questionnaire applied to the sample of 105 owners-associates. The data were tabulated and processed by using SPSS software (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) and the analysis was performed on the basis of techniques of descriptive statistics (frequency distribution and mean). A documental research was also performed in the Cooperative with the purpose of complementing the obtained data. Considering the dairy farmers´ statements of account investigated, heterogeneity in the utilization of the technological components (genetic breeding, feeding, reproduction, health of the herd, machines and equipments) was identified. On the basis of the results and, with the purpose of improving the technological qualification of the dairy farmers, the following recommendations are presented to the COOPATOS: that a systematic training program of owner-associates, children and employees be implemented which regards both the qualification and diffusion of dairy production technologies and; which intensifies among the owners-associates the technical assistance offered by the Cooperativa technicians.
