Hyperthyroidism is a disease of increasing importance in feline medical clinic, more common in middle-aged and elderly animals, with variable symptomatology. A factor that has been closely correlated to hyperthyroidism is the presence of chemicals considered to be endocrine disruptors on the packages of moist food products for domestic felines, canned and in sachets. An element found in these products is bisphenol A, that causes decreased affinity of triiodothyronine (T3) to its receptors, increasing the production of TSH and thus generating hyperplasia of the thyroid tissue. This review aims to evaluate the influence of these substances in the body of cats. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
