BICYCLE trails , *SOCIAL integration , *TRAFFIC congestion , *SOCIAL mobility , *BICYCLE lanes , *URBAN transportation , *ELECTRIC bicycles - Abstract
In Brazil, medium-sized cities have been experiencing chaotic traffic, traffic jams, pollution, and consequently reduced the quality of life, mobility and social inclusion. The use of the bicycle has proved to be a sustainable solution, since it reduces the number of vehicles in circulation and the levels of pollution, guaranteeing a more harmonious city. The objective of this study was to analyze the use and use of bicycle paths in medium-sized Brazilian cities, as an option for sustainable urban mobility. For this, the methodology used was the bibliographical research and the analysis of three medium-sized Brazilian cities that had success in the implantation or rehabilitation of cycle lanes focusing on sustainable urban mobility. CYCLING , *BICYCLE lanes , *PRACTICE (Sports) , *CYCLISTS - Abstract
This work analyzed the profile of cyclists who use the cycle lanes and cyclotracks in the city of Maringá, their motivation to adopt the bicycle as a means of transportation and their opinions for improvement actions. A formal structured interview was conducted with 51 cyclists, most men between 21 and 50 years old, who use the bike to go and return from work and perform sports and leisure practices. For most respondents, the construction of more bike lanes and cycle tracks would result in a greater adoption of bicycle and use of the cycle-road mesh in the city. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

STREETS , *ENVIRONMENTAL quality , *PEDESTRIANS , *LAND cover , *OPEN spaces , *LIGHT intensity , *LAND use , *BICYCLE lanes - Abstract
This study aimed at identifying and representing the environmental quality cartographically in an urban segment of the city of Paranagua, on the coast of Parana. The map of urban environmental quality has been prepared based on the survey and cartographic representation of negative parameters of certain criteria on scales that value the citizen's routine that were: reduced or absent vegetation cover, reduced or absent vegetation on streets, potentially polluting use of land and streets, lack of open spaces, free of construction and their areas of influence, the height buildings above four stories, frequently flooded areas, sidewalks and bicycle lanes with that impose danger for the pedestrian or cyclist. The map in question enabled the scrutiny of a large area with low environmental quality which follows the path of the main roads and railways that lead to the Dom Pedro II Port. Similarly, the intense presence of commercial use and/or the intensity of light vehicle traffic in many localities encourages loss of environmental quality of the area studied. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

AND MOBILITY CORRIDORS, an opportunity for urban development” The present has be structured according to a “development that satisfies the current needs, without compromising the future generations capacity to satisfy their own needs” (United Nations, 1987), keeping under the scope the balance of economy, social and environmental parameters. At the moment, policy development goes alongside the population, with its own different objectives and defending distinctive ideologies; nonetheless, it is still relevant to underline the fact that some game changing initiatives, which aim to improve the urban areas, are being developed, contributing a more sustainable and balanced urban daily life. These initiatives are mainly comprised by studies regarding green structures, urban development, sustainability, bicycle lanes, disrupting commuting methods, the restructuring of urban spacing, among others. This thesis work/report focused on the analysis of the “Rede de Percursos e Corredores de Lisboa” – the mobility corridors and pathways of Lisbon – its creation and development, targeting the proposals for new corridors for bicycle usage as well as its intervention strategies. The work is based on the analysis of the City Biophysical characteristics, of already existing “patternsolutions” for the implementation of said lanes and on the continuity of existing pathways, with the objective to promote the following aspects: smooth mobility, sustainability and development of solutions that boost the economy. During the internship, there was an involvement with other projects, a few of those also connected to the “Rede de Percursos e Corredores de Lisboa” – with a lower level of direct intervention –, and others related with the improvements and urban requalification of Lisbon.
