- Abstract
This paper traces the history of neoshamanism in Brazil through bibliographical and documentary research, participation in rituals, personal interviews and questionnaires. First, we investigated the emergence of the concept of shamanism in the West and its consequent fusion with ideas of nature in the 19th century. We analyze the development of contemporary shamanism under indigenous leadership and its openings and mergers with the modern world, as well as, conversely, the creation of the movement under the leadership of academics and their searches for tradition. In the second part, we investigate how this movement happened in Brazil, and we try to create a short history of the movement in the country, through the stories of four important figures of this religious movement. INFLUENCE (Literary, artistic, etc.) , *TWENTIETH century , *CRITICAL analysis , *AUTHORS , *LITERATURE , *LITERARY criticism - Abstract
The notion of subject has recently gained increasing influence in discussions of literary criticism and theory, particularly among authors such as Luiz Costa Lima. Despite his concern to enunciate his assumptions, Costa Lima does not dwell on the philosophical discussion about the historical variation of the subject, which characterised the debates on the concept in the 20th century. This perspective allows us to problematize what are the different forms of the subject and, above all, by which processes these forms are produced. Thus, this article aims to outline the key points of the debate about the epochalization of the subject, identifying its problems and assumptions, which are the basis of Costa Lima's discussion. From a critical analysis of the perspectives of Heidegger, Foucault and Elias Palti, the paper seeks to shed light on the philosophical bases of the variability of forms of the subject, which, even if not stated, can be linked to recent debates in the theory of literature. This article aims to reflect on how genres overlap in the construction of narratives and take part in the conformation of a myth of the political imaginary: the myth of Evita Perón. We seek to discuss what the accounts of fiction and history in the representation of reality are made up of. This paper is divided into four parts: historicity effect; imaginary; autofiction -- the construction of the self; and representations of Evita. The first two parts present theoretical propositions and the last two will discuss literary representations of Eva Perón, referring to some Argentinean works. We conclude that the manner in which a text is narrated creates the effect of historicity, straddling the fiction and historical genres, and converging in the imaginary. Furthermore, we accept that it is impossible to cover the whole phenomenon of the configuration of the evitista imaginary. However, it is possible to offer some contribution to the studies on this theme. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
This paper intends to study the life and thoughts of Francisco Barbosa, who was born in the middle of the 16th century, in the midst of a peasantry family, in the rural areas of northern Portugal. He visited several continents having many different occupations, from Portugal to Brazil, passing through Africa and Flanders. At a certain stage in his life, he ended up dedicating himself to the Jacobean pilgrimage. His life path was determined by two fundamental vectors: religion and empire. Under the pretext of studying Barbosa's existence, it is our aim to unveil aspects connected to the worldview of popular social strata, more specifically those of peasant families, which are usually understated by historiography in detriment of elites or institutions. - Abstract
This study aims at examining what Polites means in the work of the Franco-Lithuanian phisopher Emmanuel Levinas. The task is challenging since there is no explicit approach to the theme in his work. However, the philosopher admits that, with the arrival of the third, the transition from ethics to an eminently social life introduces the question of Justice, Polites and Law, etc., at the heart of the dual relationship. By showing the existence of a fruitful interface between ethics and politics in the author's thought, the primary goal is to address the ethics of otherness from the pespective of language as living speech and as interpellation of the other. The paper then explores Levinas' lines of thought concerning Politics otherwise said, considering the originality of de semiotic and linguistic intrigue that the philosopher establishes betwenn Say and Said that underlies his writing. PARAGUAYAN War, 1865-1870 , *GENERALS , *MILITARY officers , *PUNISHMENT , *PRISONERS of war ,TRIPLE Alliance, 1882 - Abstract
This paper analyzes the writing of the military Francisco Isidoro Resquín, whose trajectory in the Paraguayan Army was marked by several positions. "La Guerra del Paraguay contra La Triple Alianza", the book describing his memoirs and different events in which he participated, is the object and one of the sources discussed to understand the explanatory and justifying formulation of General Resquín's action after the end of the war. Considering the specialized bibliography on the war and other sources, it is possible to perceive Resquín's role in the conflict, particularly in the organization of the punishments against war prisoners. The book aimed at safeguarding the author's image, while it tried to justify the conflict. Francisco Resquín was a complex and misallocated character among the so-called Paraguayan heroes in the War against the Triple Alliance. Thus, his oeuvre, including its internal structure, became an important record to understand the internal relations inside the Paraguayan forces. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

EYEWITNESS accounts , *BLACK people , *ORAL history , *TWENTIETH century , *CARNIVAL , *INSCRIPTIONS , *CIVIL rights movements - Abstract
The objective of this paper is to reflect upon what is conventionally referred to as the post-abolitionist period. It is an analysis derived from studies on the associations of black and mestizo people in the city of Vitória da Conquista (Brazil), amid the political and cultural transitions in the carnivalization process in the second half of the 20th century. The methodology consisted of the interpretation of the iconography, especially photographs of the carnival, and the analysis of the first-hand accounts of the people whose formation of the memory was linked to those groups which held the street carnival, from the predicates of oral history, articulating postulates from history and other fundamental social disciplines in order to approach the memory. With this investigation, it can be inferred that it is possible to alter the academic use of the post-abolitionist category in the epistemological field of history, substracting its sense of periodization, and inverting the thematic meaning conferred by the inscription of the memory of the struggles for liberty and citizenship of black and mestizo people, making use of a new category: historiographic memory. The paper proposes a reflection on the configuration of temporality in 21st century Latin American narratives that, directly or indirectly, fictionalize recent historical events. We start from the hypothesis that, in these narratives, through a phantasmatic aesthetic that metaphorizes bodies, the past gains centrality as a temporal dimension that imposes itself on the present. To develop this hypothesis, contemporary cinematographic and literary works will be put into dialogue, such as the films Aranha, by Andrés Wood, A Chorona, by Jayro Bustamante, and novels, such as O corpo interminável, by Cláudia Lage, Degeneração, by Fernando Bonassi. - Abstract
This article proposes a contribution to psychoanalytic historiography by revisiting Freud's founding texts, The history of the psychoanalytic movement, published in 1914, searching in it for the first clues on how to operate at the interface between psychoanalysis and history. From this inaugural text, the paper examines some psychoanalysts and historians who investigated the link between psychoanalysis and history, to find convergences and divergences on the practice of the psychoanalytic historian. Lastly, it proposes three axis for a psychoanalytic historiography, articulated around the concepts of afterwardsness, das Ding and historical truth. This historiographic reflection seeks to show different ways of thinking the history of the psychoanalytic movement. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

VIOLENCE against women , *LITERARY criticism , *POOR people , *PATRIARCHY , *EIGHTEENTH century , *INQUISITION - Abstract
Inspired by the discovery of some letters in Portuguese archives, in which a Brazilian woman defends herself against the Portuguese Inquisition in the 18th century, Maria Valéria Rezende published, in 2019, Carta à Rainha Louca. In the novel, the narrator, Isabel, struggles to resist the violence of colonizers against women, blacks and the underprivileged, undertaking a profound analysis of social relations established in colonial Brazil. Based on the reflection on how reading and writing form the mainstay of the feminist struggle against patriarchy, which took root in Brazilian lands during colonization, this paper aims to analyze the relationship between literature and history according to the fruitful dialogue established by this book with some important themes in the work of Paulo Freire. This work deals with Ethics as a topic of interest to the Brazilian Congress of Library Science and Documentation (CBBD), focusing on production in the annals of seven editions (16th to 22nd) of this event. Methodology: 1) bibliographic research (regarding the material used to form the theoretical basis; 2) documentary research (regarding the use of the annals and general reports of CBBD events for data collection) and 3) exploratory research (regarding the intended objectives). The objective was to understand and determine--using the texts of the presented works and those present in the annals and in the texts of the general reports of these CBBD editions--the following: a) the topics of the papers which addressed the theme of Ethics; b) the position of the paper that addressed the issue; c) the sequence in which the theme of ethics was addressed; d) the recommendations approved at the end of each edition and expressed in the general reports. Thus, in that period between 1991 and 2007, in which there were seven editions of the CBBD, a total of only four papers dealing with the theme were found, appearing in two of the editions. In the other five editions of the Congress, no papers were presented on the topic. It was found that the majority of these CBBD editions did not contain a theme that clearly dealt with Ethics. In most cases, no final recommendation on the issue was expressed in the general reports. In conclusion, it was found that the topic of Ethics is under explored. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The present paper aims to investigate the reconstruction of identity and memory of an aphrodiasporic collective through the narrative Becos da Memória, by Conceição Evaristo. Narratives that constitute themselves by black experiences in diaspora raise concepts of subjectivities that deconstruct a hegemonic and dominant narrative. Through this work, there is a possibility to explore life experiences of these subordinate individuals which claim for their voices to be heard and their narratives to be modified by the awareness of their reality. Therefore, exploring the different stories of characters is to see the significant and painful role of the diaspora in the conception of these fictional individuals. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The present paper aims at an analysis of the relations between history, memory, theater and society using as instrument two works of the Brazilian playwright Augusto Boal. Murro em ponta de faca (1978) was written during the period in which Boal was exiled in Latin American and European countries due to the civil-military dictatorship in Brazil and reveals the sufferings of the exiles by the authoritarian regimes of the time. Hamlet e o filho do padeiro: memórias imaginadas (2000), another play mentioned in the paper, gathers the artist's memories about his childhood, youth and adult life. Between the memories of Boal as an subject, we also see the historical, political and social articulations that marked the aesthetic choices of the playwright. It is intended, therefore, to study theater together with memory (from it or through it) as an instrument of reflection and social transformation as was Boal's desire. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The paper intends to examine the figure of "exile" and its contributions to the historian's craft in the modern regime of historicity. Firstly, from Walter Benjamin's approaches of Charles Baudelaire and Paris in the 19th century, it analyzes the qualities and the challenges of this historic time to the historiography. In a second time, the paper works the category of "exile" as inherent to the political and cultural processes of the Black Atlantic, as well as to the distinctive narratives produced by the African Diaspora in the modernity-coloniality. Thereby, it is expected that the idea of "exile", anchored in the experience of people of African descent throughout the Atlantic world, provides an instrumental framework to think the history and the historian in contemporary. - Abstract
This text integrates a research whose main theme is the life trajectory and work of the painter Artemisia Gentileschi (1593-1654). The paper discusses how the artist's work contribute to thinking her biographical trajectory, her culture and the time in which she live. Our goal is understanding the representations and constructions of the feminine in Artemisia's work beside the Judiths, which are strong and relentless; Artemisia also painted portraits of educated and notorious ladies who are either writing or playing an instrument and also allegories of music, peace, rhetoric, history, fame, and painting which praise intellectuality in addition to helping ennobling the act of painting. Considering what has been said, the paper debates some of the perspectives of the feminine that coexisted in Artemisia's work, contributing to not only seeing her through the optic of violence, which is many times, considered the key to explaining her production. - Abstract
This article, carried out with support from the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul Foundation - UFMS / MEC - Brazil, is the result of studies on female participation on different fronts to fight the Brazilian civil-military dictatorship (1964-1985). Over the past few decades, important contributions have been made to thinking about female protagonism during the dictatorship, allowing the emergence of new perspectives and analytical approaches. Thus, when thinking about the history of women in that period, we must observe the codes of conduct that surrounded them and the practices of resistance that broke both in the political, public, as well as cultural, patriarchal scenario. Thus, the aim of this paper is to discuss female participation and resistance in the Guerrilha do Araguaia. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper focuses on the relationship between philosophy and literature in J.R.R. Tolkien’s (1892-1973) essay On Fairy-stories. Delivered as a lecture in 1939 and published in 1947, the text presents the author’s conception of the literary genre known as fairy-stories and we explore the possible philosophical and theological mediations and references in his investigation. The objectives of this article are twofold: 1) to highlight the literary theory proposed by Tolkien as part of the philosophical tradition of medieval realism, with conceptual correspondences in Plato, Aristotle, Augustine and Thomas Aquinas; and 2) to demonstrate Tolkien’s original contribution to the appreciation of imagination and fantasy as a form of contemplation, which is the purpose of the educational effort, called paideia, of this philosophical tradition. The methodology comprises a comparative bibliographical review of these authors, using both the essay by J.R.R. Tolkien and his personal letters, as well as the books by the above-mentioned philosophers and their contemporary commentators. The conclusion upholds the viability of the connection between the paideia and mythopoeia conceived by Tolkien as a contemplative way that values the production of myths as a means of admiration of reality from the metaphysical perspective. BACKGROUND: This paper deals with research inserted in the field of Sport History and interrelated with sociocultural studies. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the emergence of badminton in the city of Montes Claros, located in the north of Minas Gerais, from its first manifestations to its rise in the city. METHODS: An investigation was carried out in documentary and printed sources, such as local newspapers that reported various events related to badminton in Montes Claros, as well as printed documents provided by some badminton teachers and professionals present in the city. Such sources were submitted to documentary analysis. RESULTS: The first vestiges of badminton, in Montes Claros, date from 2007. Badminton had different local newspapers as cooperators for this practice, addressing different episodes in the region and allowing the conquest of space within the socio-cultural panorama of Minas Gerais. From this movement, the Montes Claros Badminton Association (ABdMOC) emerges, with the social objective of providing and encouraging the practice of badminton and parasports (parabadminton), in addition to sustaining the opportunity for a healthy sports practice. Then, with its expansion, the conception of the Badminton Team of the Athletic Association Banco do Brasil (AABB) was carried out, with a competitive sporting character, resulting in the contribution to the development of the practice in the region. CONCLUSION: Evidence of the first manifestations and increase of badminton in Montes Claros were identified, as well as the extent to which access to this cultural practice has been expanded over the last few years in the city, contributing to the local cultural development. Important collaborators who made and continue to make badminton expand and be appreciated have also been unveiled, which makes this study a pillar for future scientific research, due to the low number of historical and socio-cultural articles about badminton. Manuela Sáenz de Thorne is commonly remembered for her passionate love story with Simón Bolívar, The Liberator. Although Manuela was an activist and an influential person before and after her relationship with Bolivar, she died alone and bankrupt in Paita, Peru. This paper highlights Manuela Sáenz's political influence, as well as the period of exile and the legacy, which is currently evidenced in a variety of literary, audiovisual and biographical references. In general, these productions maintain her image as a woman who was moved by passion and emphasize the character of a revolutionary leader ahead of her time. Therefore, this study focuses on the multiple biographies of Manuela Sáenz. From this perspective, we consider the role that certain memories have built about the "Insepulta de Paita". In this paper we present a academic research about the process of representation of historical events of censorship, barbarism and torture evidenced in the novels As meninas and As horas nuas, by the Brazilian writer Lygia Fagundes Telles. Our research, which has as theoretical framework the assumptions of Paul Ricoeur, points out thatl iterature and history experience in general, and especially in the two fictions analyzed, an intense connection. In short, there is history in literature and there is literature in history. This exchange is profitable for both disciplines. This paper aims to investigate the establishment of a field of academic history in Brazil, by means of USP’s Revista de História, founded in 1950. Through the contents of the 1950’s issues we identify, in the publication, a period of closeness between professionals coming from the IHGSP and others from the university itself. That points to a transition period between a so-called traditional history and a new professional history in Brazil, already during the 1950’s. It is also possible to sort out the traditional periods of the relationship between the Annales and the so called USP school of History, through the analyses of elements that accompany texts published by French historians and some others published by professors such as Eurípedes Simões de Paula, Eduardo d’Oliveira França and Astrogildo Rodrigues de Mello. Objective/Context: This article presents the historical context of the creation of Goiânia, capital city of the state of Goiás, built in the 1930s as a symbol of the expansion of the demographic and agricultural frontier in central Brazil. The city emerged through the Pedro Ludovico Teixeira efforts, appointed state intervener by the President Getúlio Vargas. In the construction process, there was the boosters's discourse, which attributed to the promised "metropolis" the power to create good opportunities for economic growth. For this, they relied on natural resources such as rivers, the presence of rich nearby forests and the fields with a less sloping region. Methodology: The study used archival sources based on technical and memorialist reports, photographs, maps, newspapers and periodicals of the time, as well as bibliography based on the theoretical and methodological assumptions of Environmental History. Originality: The historiography of Central Brazil has often been analyzed from the perspective of the frontier and not from the perspective of environmental history. In this paper, we seek to appropriate these two issues, reinforcing the relationship between the rural and urban processes of the Cerrado environmental history in Central Brazil. Conclusions: The real scenario was different from the announced one, since nature was much more a barrier than a facilitating element of development. In addition, the ideals of modern urbanism were partially abandoned due to the opportunism of selling lots. Also, the growth took place, but not because of the abundance of natural resources, but because of the transfer of the capital that fed it back as it attracted new inhabitants. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The complementary and adverse relations between philosophy and religion mark a long historical period and include several thinkers. Ludwig Feuerbach stands out as one of the most important authors of this theme and his critique of religion includes both a methodological analytic, pointing to the material prerogative of human history, and turns to the cognitive constitution of the human being, to be subjectively filled by a high anthropomorphic humanism. The main objective of this paper was to present some theoretical elements about this, focusing on the relationship between Ludwig Feuerbach's thought and the German Enlightenment philosophy of his day. This paper aims to address how the Itararé Housing Estate - currently called Dirceu Arcoverde - construction was planned and implemented. It was the largest housing development project in the 1970s in Piauí, and the region with the largest population region in the capital of Piaui since then. We aimed to understand how this project was managed and took shape within the exclusionary historical and social dynamics presented to the low-income population in the period. We discuss how the challenges faced daily by these residents were connected to the contradictions experienced by Brazilian society in the 1970s - time frame of the research. Therefore, we resorted to the analysis of documentary and hemerographic sources, specially concerning the photographic records about the region displayed in local newspapers. Furthermore, we adopted the thematic Oral History methodology through interviews with the first residents of the region. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The book Olga, by Fernando Morais, intends telling the life story of Olga Benario, the Jewish and communist wife of Luís Carlos Prestes who was in Brazil to assist on a socialist revolution. In the narrative process, the intertwining of history and literature happens which reveals a fertile soil for interdisciplinary investigation. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to analyze, through a literature review and an inductive process, the external data of the communicative situations correlating it with the reconstruction of the past procedure undertaken by historians and with the characteristics of the literary writing. To achieve that, the theoretical perspective of Patrick Charaudeau (2006; 2012), about the communication act; of Keith Jenkins (2009), about the historian craft; of Mary Del Priore (2009), about biographies; and of Paul Ricoeur (1997), about tramendum horrendum are used. In this process, it was possible to notice that, in the narrative, the informative and páthos views, of the condition of purpose of the communicative situation, are emphasized, since they favor, respectively, the connection between history and literature and the exposure of horror. The paper studies Felisbelo Freire's 1894 book on the History of Brazilian Republican Constitutional Law, which is actually a critic against the imperial regime and an apology for the republic. Albeit Freire's book was entitled as a Brazilian Republican Constitutional History, the paper assumes that it does not follow or exposes an analytical scheme of Constitutional subjects, which somewhat confirms the comprehension that Constitutional Law is far more politics than a set of normative and dogmatic references. Traditional readings of Le Spleen de Paris, as those made by Jean Starobinski and Walter Benjamin, highlight the figure of the buffoon and the burlesque attitude. In these analysis, Baudelaire's prose poems are considered as disguised testimonies of a biographical and historical experience. This paper aims to point out the inconvenience of an automatic association between the poet himself and the poetical subject, emphasizing aspects of Baudelaire's writing which would lead us to consider otherwise the idea of the "decline" of poetry. Our aim in this paper is to present in general terms an introduction to the genealogical method elaborated by Nietzsche in The Genealogy of Morals. For this we will also rely on the famous article by Foucault entitled “Nietzsche: genealogy and historyâ€. We will try to demonstrate to what extent the genealogical method is innovatory and profitable for an authentic historical philosophy. The genealogical method presents us a new understanding of temporality and, consequently, a new understanding of reality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The process of recovering the historical memory in biographical and autobiographical writtings is no longer restricted to an exclusive field of research. Authors such as Georges Bataille, John Hersey and Beatriz Sarlo scrutinize the correlations between History and memory in the literature, evaluating ethical matters and issues of social nature. In the light of this studies, this paper comments some excerpts of Assombrações do Recife Velho (1955), work of the sociologist Gilberto Freyre and Baú de ossos (1972), first volume of Pedro Nava's memoirs. The objective is to expose how fictional and historical elements are articulated in both works. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
This paper intends to present a critical examination of the siren's image in its sources and evolution, from the epic episode described by Homer to the modern narrative. The discourses of historiography, literature, and religion tell the myth assuming some distinct features, blending them with literary, philosophical, and social contexts. Implications of these contexts have affected the aesthetic representation of the myth in its literary form. A historiographic and literary review of Manuel Bernardes's, Gilberto Freyre's, Joaquim Ruyra's, and José Cândido de Carvalho's texts shows that differences between these versions are minor after the seventeenth century. The variants of the myth are examined based on studies undertaken by Dana Oswald, Lisa Verner, and Luís da Câmara Cascudo. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
In this paper we aim at introducing the reader to the Locke-Leibniz controversy concerning History, Politics and Language. In order to do so, we will follow this scheme: firstly, we will show in what ways Leibniz's researches on etymology shift Locke's main arguments into a different field, apart from his original art of inventing, finding and reasoning, i.e., we will show how Leibniz, based on those researches, denies not only Locke's conventionalism and nominalism, but also his somiotics; secondly, in order to show how Leibniz reclaims Adam's heritage, tracing it back from the sons of Noah to the modern Prussian monarchy trough his historical-etymological investigations, we aim at reconstructing how this dispute started with Filmer's own account of Adam's lineage and Locke's refutation of this attempt of funding the political powers in such heritage. - Abstract
The objective of the article is a comparison between Os Lusíadas/The Lusiads (1572) by Luís Vaz de Camões and ...Onde Vaz, Luís (1983) by Jaime Gralheiro, showing the processes of narrative incorporation of an epic pattern into the dramatic hypertext, made through a "mosaic of quotations". The discussion attends to the generic transformation, a very productive one in terms of aesthetics and ideology, with visible traits of parody, disguise, pastiche, narrative transposition of more than one unique text but many of them by various Portuguese authors of the XVIth century (including Fernão Mendes Pinto, António Ferreira, Pedro de Andrade Caminha, Damião de Góis, Gil Vicente) ment for a jocular dramatic piece, both tragic and grotesque, conceived out of social criticism and according to a Brechtean ideological character. The article shows a sample of multiple relations between the primary hypotext and the texts derivated out of it, confirming the present paper's aim in many works of Portuguese literature writers, of prose and theater writings. The heroic hypotext vs. the hypertexts are unfolded in dramatic and novelesque post-modern refabulations (José Saramago included!). Another study of the imaginary makes the realm of revisiting the Portuguese literature is possible in relation to contemporary history and human existence, with space-and-time frontiers and literary genres extinguished in the "intertextual lottery" of Camões and his metamorfoses with regard to fctional authors and protagonists. A diagnosis of hic et nunc (just now!) is being produced in a methodologically consistent way according to the classics of intertextuality focused on dramatic and romanesque writings in Portugal in the decline of the former century. Objective: to characterize and qualify fall risk evaluation scales validated for application in hospitalized adult patients. Method: an integrative literature review that included investigations developed with hospitalized patients 18 years old or older after consulting the LILACS, PubMed, CINAHL, and Embase databases. Results: 319 papers were found, among which nine were included in the present review. Most scales were developed between 1989 and 1999 and oriented to assess fall risk in adults and elderly people. The domains mobility (88.8%), fall history (88.8%), mental state (66.6%), incontinence (77.7%), use of medications (66.6%), and sensory deficit (55.5%) were used most often. Four scales (44.4%) showed test results for the evaluation of psychometric properties. Conclusion: the scales found in the scientific literature did not present a consensus on the domains for fall prediction and most were not submitted to evaluation of the recommended psychometric properties. - Abstract
Since this is a matter that is not yet resolved, where the strength of ideologies and reuses may change deeply or even reverse the ways it is evoked, the colonial past may become a problem (Vecchi, 2018a). This is the case of Portuguese colonialism which is frequently invoked to stress resentments: whether from the country that was colonised or the colonising country (Ferro, 2009). As soon as the Portuguese Revolution of 25 April 1974 took place, Mozambique promoted the elimination of colonialism symbols. This predictable attitude, aiming to show that the colonisation had ended, was later amended by the future Governments, with the colonial statues (at least, the ones that remained) being relocated to a place where they may be observed and contextualised. This action aimed to preserve the memory, which may enable the development of intercultural dynamics, softening the mentioned resentment: promoting questioning, in order to understand certain logics and, at the same time, filling gaps in the forgotten memory and in the Mozambican identity (Khan, Falconi & Krakowska, 2016). This paper refers to the cases related to the new life of two colonial statues in Maputo - Mouzinho de Albuquerque and Salazar -, during the post-colonial period and the permanence, until today, of the first monumental trace of Estado Novo [Second Republic] (Monumento aos Mortos da Primeira Guerra Mundial [World War I monument]), showing the importance that the preservation of memory has in a country or a nation's life, even when it is associated with the former coloniser. This sort of mental decolonisation (Mbembe, 2017; Thiong'o, 1986), aims the questioning of the way the colonial past weighs on the current intercultural relations, in Mozambique, when the country establishes a relation with the former coloniser, allowing its inhabitants to look at the past as a way to build future dynamics. - Abstract
This paper aims to present an overview of Brazilian neuropsychology, focusing on the way the discipline was brought to Brazil, the present panorama of the discipline, and the challenges related to its consolidation. This article addresses the historical course of Neuropsychology, mapping the five distinct periods that characterized its history, as well as its national course. Brazilian neuropsychology is currently aided by the sophistication of neuroimaging techniques, the advancement in research and the interest in the area, as well as the creation of representative professional associations, the growing number of publications, research groups and graduate courses, the development of Brazilian instruments and the increase in standardization and validation of foreign instruments. Despite these advances, it is necessary to emphasize the need to make a Brazilian Neuropsychology, in tune with the challenges that come from a diverse country, one which contributes with public policies, produces knowledge that reaches different peoples and contributes towards reducing social inequalities. - Abstract
The aim of the paper is to question a dominant reading of Kant's political philosophy, which brings it closer to a theory of justice. Although the law has a weight in his political thought, law and politics, justice and politics are not the same for Kant. His political thought contains a dimension that deals with the contingent, with history, and is not therefore exhausted in pure normativity. The text seeks to highlight this dimension, pointing to some political issues that Kant faces in his texts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The paper examines how the "learning to make by making" pedagogical principle was present in the context of mathematical education at Federal Agrotechnical School of Sertão (EAFS/RS) in the 1980s. The theoretical framework is based mainly on the works of Michel Foucault and John Dewey. The research material is composed of interviews with egresses, as well as Mathematics notebooks, tests and schoolwork from that period. The analytical exercise concerning this material, undertaken in the perspective of foucauldian discourse analysis and by means of the Storytelling approach, demonstrated that mathematical education in Mathematical classes was hardly related to the "learning to make by making" pedagogical principle, prioritizing formalism and the use of writing. - Abstract
This paper aims to present a reflection on the ethical implications of the notion of origin - a construct understood in the human sciences in the sense of cause, source, beginning--by way of a dialogue with Wadji Mouawad's stage play Scorched. Borrowing from Walter Benjamin's thought, the central literary question in the play is to consider origin as a mythical creation. Benjamin's contribution to an understanding of childhood helps us to think how infantile dauntlessness can confront the mythical forces of literature. Benjamin's is a childhood that operates through trials and peculiar modes of reading and writing which put obedience and reproduction as features of a mythical universe to the test. Therefore, a childhood that acts to prevent the conclusiveness of history and to assert its capacity to unfold along different trajectories is an insurgency that interrupts time and history's linearity. In the first section of this paper, I contrast the notions of origin articulated by Walter Benjamin and by the human sciences or common sense. I also include some fragments from Mouawad's play as examples of a kind of writing that juxtaposes times and meanings which overtake the linearity of history. In the second part, I put Kafka's oeuvre together with Scorched in order to reflect on the agonism of silence and song--or chant--that traverses the experience of Mouawad's characters. Finally, I make use of Walter Benjamin's notion of "constellation" to highlight the ethical proposal implicit in Mouawad's work. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper discusses the construction of organizational memory based on the analysis of the video Memória do Tempo produced in 1960 by BanLavoura de Minas Gerais. The video was produced to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the organization. As part of the action that we here call "an exercise of futurology", documents and objects were locked with the video in an urn created for this purpose, which was opened in the year 2000, forty years after its closing. The organizational discourse registered in the movie was analyzed and so were the interviews that we conducted with BanLavoura's former employees. The research relied on current debates founded in literature that focus on organizational identity and the construction of organizational memory. Based on those references, we discussed the intentionality that permeates the construction of certain record on memory and history, which seeks to represent the past of the organization. The result shows that organization managers intended to preserve the history and the memory of the organization, but not the complete history or any memory. Organization managers were not interested in registering failures or organizational weaknesses, or in building a history based on employees' accounts, since they barely appear in the analyzed material. They wanted to bring to light things that could project a certain organizational identity and memories of how the past happened. Thus, memory becomes a subject of dispute and is actively constructed to help shape the way the organization is remembered. Only then, it could help to build a good organizational image before the workers and society. Although the studied bank no longer exists and therefore no longer harbors a community of "lavourenses", this paper allows reflections on similar efforts in preserving (and constructing) a memory made by other organizations. This paper presents preliminary findings of an instrument called "trigonal sector" which was described by John Chatfeild in his treatise entitled The Trigonall Sector, published in 1650. It points out some didactic potentials of "trigonal sector" especially for the teaching of geometry. The instrument allows students to explore different properties of triangles considering their angles. This paper raises the hypothesis that the operation with the instrument associated with an educational organization -- it based on the relationship between the context in which mathematical concepts show in the document and the movement of thought in the formation of these concepts -- can lead the student in a fruitful way to the process of analysis and synthesis, that is essential for the concept formation.
