REVOLUTIONS , *MIDDLE class , *NATIONALISM , *IDEOLOGY , *LIBERALISM , *WAR of 1812 - Abstract
The pathway covered by liberalism in Brazil is winding. As an ideology imported from the European bourgeoisie, it found in a colonized country the appropriate environment for its advancement, even if contiguous to its antinomy, that is, nationalism. Particularly, within the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, liberalism, obliquely absorbed by the Brazilian elite, oligarchies employed liberalism in an even more instrumental, and rather contradictory, way, if compared with the rest of the country. Liberalism, therefore, experienced a particular history within Rio Grande do Sul, where several conflicts were waged on its behalf. Accordingly, this paper aims at rescuing the history of liberalism in southern Brazil by reconstructing such conflicts--and the liberal element at its bottom: the Farroupilha Revolution (1835-1845), the Federalist Revolution (1893-1895), and the 1923 War. COLLECTIVE memory , *LOCAL history , *DECOLONIZATION , *MUSEUM studies , *MEMORY - Abstract
Memory is a cultural device extremely important when thinking the identity of a people and its history. Regarding the museums, which are institutions acknowledged by memory preservation, there is also the presence of political and ideological decisions that sometimes overlap historical facts and try making a new narrative about the past, acting in an oppressive way and silencing stories. Concerning the immigration museums - usually small cultural institutions located in the South of Brazil, in the countryside, more specifically in the state of Rio Grande do Sul -, the absence of a museology can be identified as well as the political use of memory, excluding characters of the local History, creating a gap filled only with silence. Thus, in this paper concepts like decoloniality (VÁZQUEZ, 2022), social museology (BRULON, 2020; CURY, 2020; PEREIRA, 2020), memory (CANDAU, 2016; POLLAK, 1989), formation of communities (ANDERSON, 2008) and silencing processes (ORLANDI, 1997) are discussed. BUSINESS enterprises , *ACTING education , *DRAMA schools , *ACTIVITY-based costing , *SEMI-structured interviews - Abstract
This paper is a case study of a drama school located in the city of Porto Alegre, state of Rio Grande do Sul. Due to the need to obtain data to manage its work processes, this research aimed to identify and analyze what are the costs of the activities developed by the drama school named as Alfa. It is an applied, qualitative, exploratory and descriptive research that used documentary survey and semi-structured interviews for the data collection step. The research can be considered applied. The results identified 36 most relevant activities usually performed using 12 different resources in the school service delivery process. Taking advantage of the benefits derived from the ABC costing method, financial resources were allocated to the company's activities in order to measure their costs. Thus, it was possible to collaborate to the management of the company, evaluating the activities and the costs resulting from them, allowing the identification of the most relevant ones and enabling a better management in the internal processes for the rendering of the final service. It was also found the occurrence of the same activity by employees with different skills and remuneration, making it easy to perform activities. In addition, overload work was identified for some positions, a situation that could be solved by a better distribution of the company's activities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

COVID-19 pandemic , *PRICE increases , *PRIMARY audience , *RAW materials , *OPEN-ended questions - Abstract
This paper aims to analyze the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on small companies in the fashion sector in Rio Grande do Sul, as well as to understand the advertising strategies adopted in the maintenance/acquisition of customers. As for its typology, this work uses Descriptive (objectives), Bibliographic, Field Research and Survey (technical procedures) and Qualitative (problem approach) research. script consisting of 13 open questions, having as target audience respondents who act as managers in small companies in the fashion sector in Rio Grande do Sul. At the end of the study, the results showed, among other points, that one of the greatest impacts of the pandemic for fashion companies was, precisely, the increase in price and the lack of raw material, the which led respondents to look for alternative materials to maintain production. Furthermore, brands had to quickly adapt to new changes, as those that did not have a more solid presence within the digital environment felt the need to accelerate this process and put all their efforts into this "new" way of selling. TEACHER training , *DIGITAL technology , *GRADUATE education , *DATA analysis , *GRADUATION (Education) , *CYBERCULTURE - Abstract
This paper seeks to identify some cyberculture manifestations in graduate programs and curriculum elements of graduation pedagogical projects (GPP) of Southern federal universities of Rio Grande do Sul state. Its problematization is focused on whether GPP predict studies or practices on digital technologies in the initial teacher training. The study was conducted analyzing GPP of three institutions located in the Southern region of Rio Grande do Sul, searching for descriptors related to cyberculture in documents, with emphasis on curriculum guidelines and programs, that is, documental research. Data analysis presents synthetic ideas regarding the technology in the documents analyzed. Mostly, the graduation courses present curriculum guidelines on digital technologies. However, the way they are mentioned in the respective content evidences an instrumental and reductionist view, suggesting a distancing between today's scenario and the initial teacher training. ENVIRONMENTAL impact analysis , *ENVIRONMENTAL management , *ENVIRONMENTAL risk , *SOCIAL impact , *HISTORICAL source material , *CITIES & towns - Abstract
There has been a lot of discussions on environmental issues in cemeteries during the last decades. Older cemeteries, prior to 1820, were planned with no specific norms for place and establishment. Environmental aspects and impacts were not taken into account and, consequently, they became potential sources for environmental contamination. Current paper identifies the environmental impacts in a cemetery in a municipality in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Data are important for the town since the study provides the current environmental situation of the only municipal cemetery. They may be of great help for decision taking on the environmental risks involved and may be used for fitting within the environmental norms. Methodology comprised bibliographic research on the issue and research-activity comprising four stages: historical analysis of documents on the municipal cemetery, mapping of the area, analysis on legislation and on environmental impacts. One of the issues consists in the impossibility of enlargement of the fixed area within the town's perimeter hailing from the 20s. It has also been verified that out of the 19 items in legal criteria, only one is wholly complied with, 5 items are partially complied with and 13 are contrary to current legislation. Attendance to environmental issues and the management of residues generated should be undertaken for a decrease in environmental, social and economical impacts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper brings the results of a study aimed at understanding the challenges and possibilities encountered from literacy teachers, two municipalities in the Brazilian State of Rio Grande do Sul, in planning their pedagogical practices in times of COVID-19. Data collection was carried out through an online survey. Based on the responses of 28 teachers, an analysis of qualitative and exploratory nature was undertaken, having as support the works of Menegolla and Sant'Anna (2014), Soares (2016), Nóvoa (2020), Dussel (2020), and Moreira and Schlemmer (2020), between others. The results showed that the main challenges were related to physical distance, the amount of activities proposed, the time allotted to carry them out, as well as the need for mediation by the families in carrying out the planning. As for the possibilities, the use of technological tools is highlighted both for the maintenance of the bond and for the development of tasks in an autonomous way. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

MUDSTONE , *PALEOZOIC Era , *BOTANY , *PALEOBOTANY , *CITIES & towns , *TAPHONOMY - Abstract
In this paper we characterize pecopterids found in deposits of the Passa Dois Group (Upper Permian of the Paraná Basin) in a new outcrop, on the side of the BR-153 road, located at the municipality of Aceguá, Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil. Pecopterids are common in the Permian paleophytogeogragic realms, signaling interglacial phases of the Late Paleozoic. Pecopteris are one of the floral elements of the Permian Glossopteris flora and become extinct in the Permo-Triassic boundary. Mudstone strata levels bearing phytofossils with different preservation qualities allowed the recognition of Pecopteris sp. and cf. Scolecopteris sp. floral elements. Taphonomic and depositional processes that conditioned the presercation of phytofossils are suggested accordingly the specimens described. Phytofossil specimen described support and highlight polymorphic nature of Gondwanan pecopterids. These new findings demonstrate potential for further paleobotanical studies in the upper portion of the Passa Dois Group and strength the notion of Permian strata for the Teresina Formation.
