ABSTRACT This paper discusses some comparative analysis between the pattern of economic performances in Asia and Western Europe during 1950s-2020s through political economies perspective. The Asian and Western European economic performances are investigated through some stylized facts in the sense of economic factors. Three analyses are used to explain the general pattern of these regions. First, this study examines the pattern of GDP growth per capita during the 1950s-2020s, focusing on several countries in this region. Second, the analysis captures the pattern of linkages of economic variables in this region related to the principle of Circular and Cumulative causation (CCC) and contradiction. Third, the analysis employs a historical perspective underpinned by the results in the second analysis. This third analysis is crucial to appreciating Asia’s global economic performance and also the process of Western deterioration phenomenon through long wave, including the occurrence recession and financial crises. The institutions of globalization and neoliberalism that put the power of capital promoted a financial crisis several times during the decades of 1980s-2020. The financial crisis is depicted by contradictions in the structural linkages among economic factors in Western Europe over the period.

This paper used the Mankiw, Romer and Weil (1992) model, with crosssection and panel data and spatial controls, to analyze the influence of spatial phenomena on inequality and economic growth in Brazilian municipalities between 1980-2010. The results indicated that reducing spatial heterogeneity (e.g.: differences in culture, preferences and natural resources) helps to combat inequalities, while the absence of spatial spillovers (from trade, technological diffusion and migration, for instance) tends to worsen it. Ignoring these spatial effects would result in underestimations of the rate of income convergence and overestimates about the returns on physical capital and human capital. Finally, being close to a "central place", as in the case of state capitals, seems to facilitate the economic growth. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

ABSTRACT This paper attempts to resituate the theory of effective demand within a dynamic nonequilibrium context. Existing theories of effective demand, which derive from the works of Keynes and Kalecki, are generally posed in state equilibrium terms. That is to say, they serve to define a given level of output which corresponds to the equilibrium point between aggregate demand and supply. We propose to generalize this analysis in three ways. First, we will extend the analysis to encompass a dynamic (i.e. moving) short-run path of output, rather than a merely static level. Second, we will show that his dynamic short-run path need not imply an equilibrium analysis, since it can arise from either stochastically sustained cycles or deterministic limit cycles. And third, we will prove that the preceding generalization of the theory of effective demand will allow us to solve a long-standing problem in growth theory: namely the puzzle surrounding the apparently intractable instability of warranted growth. We will show that the actual path of growth does indeed gravitate around the warranted path in a cyclical sense.

In this research paper, we used the VECM framework to assess Moroccan central bank’s ability to target inflation. We also explored the possibility of reconciling between inflation control and growth stimulation through an impulse response analysis. Our empirical results showed that interest rate adjustments as monetary policy measure could be a relevant choice in a context of moderate and short-lived inflation since it provides a wide margin for reconciling price stability and economic growth. In times of high and persistent inflation, the central bank should prioritize inflation control through a permanent decrease in its money supply.

Economic growth’s theories suggest that a developed financial sector can promote the economy growth. However, the ability of financial sector to boost the economic growth depends on its ability to finance the economy. This paper investigates the relationship between Morocco's economic growth and financial development (FD). We base our study on the crucial role of banking sector in economic growth in developing countries through their financial intermediation. In order, to verify this relationship the vector error correction model (VECM) is used on secondary data: real GDP per capita (GDP) and a set of explanatory variables representing the financial development sector, specifically the ratio of private sector credit (CPS) and control variables including the share of government consumption (PC), the real interest rate (IR), trade openness (TO), and the inflation rate (INF). Our secondary data comes from the Central Bank of Morocco database and covers 56 quarters from 2007Q1 to 2020Q4. The findings support the long- and short-term benefits of financial sector development for economic growth in Morocco.

ABSTRACT This paper discusses three interdependent topics. The first is that the economic reforms implemented in Latin America after the mid-1980s were not sufficient to ensure exchange rate stability in the region. The second is that there are favorable conditions to start the process of macroeconomic convergence between Latin American countries. The third topic refers to the strategic role to be played by Argentina, Brazil, Canada, and Mexico as reducing the degree of asymmetry generated by the presence of the American economy.

ABSTRACT The reconstruction of the economic history of Brazil since independence from Portugal (1822) may lead to a new understanding of its economic growth. The deep-rooted idea that Brazil could have done better means there is a need to delve into each phase of its development. In this paper, we provide a very long-run perspective (1822-2019) of Brazil’s economic growth and process of real convergence. On the one hand, this review indicates that structural changes observed in the middle of the 20th century were crucial in promoting the country’s growth and real convergence with technologically advanced countries. On the other hand, poor institutional conditions and deficient human capital formation have emerged since colonial times as critical factors underlying Brazil’s inability to establish robust and sustainable economic growth.

ABSTRACT Kaleckian literature is considered an important theme in the post-Keynesian school of economic thought. In the aftermath of the financial crisis, the endeavors of forming a new consensus regarding essential economic issues, in particular achieving economic growth became a need. Thus, the Kaleckian models returned to be in the spot since these models tackle the impact of changes in the distribution of income and address the question whether a redistribution of income away from wages and towards profits is capable of boosting growth. In this sense, this paper return to Kaleckian insights and offers a theoretical discussion of the distributional effects on aggregate demand and economic growth. Moreover, through the lens of neo-Kaleckian tradition, the evolution of the debate on wage-led and profit-led regimes in recent decades can be traced.
