- Abstract
Referring to the natural sciences, philosophy, literary studies, and how poetic avantgardes described the place and sensation of corporeality, the article focuses on whether and how hormones signify in twenty-first-century poetry. Using the example of three creative paths and text – by Joanna Mueller, Kae Tempest, and Lisette Lombé – the author distinguishes three types of poetic action, respectively: hormonal identification or the search for a separate language, hormonal non-binary transformations, and amplification of hormonal lyrical stories. Consequently, the author posits a new consciousness resulting from biological evolution and the development of social consciousness and thought. She proposes to call it “hormolyrical consciousness,” as it is to result from the interference of hormones in poetry, which happens when strong hormonal activity fluctuates and – regardless of political changes or borders – affects all aspects of our lives.
