The article raises the matter of keeping in and erasing some people from a collective memory based on the example of Tadeusz Sadowski, aka Tomo (1922–1944), a Polish partisan fighting during World War II in the partisan units in Yugoslavia. The materials gathered (books, articles, internet publications) allowed the author to show on paper how Sadowski was presented in Yugoslavia (and later in Slovenia), and in Poland following the end of the war. As a result of the performed research the author has managed to demonstrate what changes have occurred in the perception of this Polish person in the cultural memory over the years and how he is currently perceived in both countries, as well as to identify possible causes of this phenomenon.
