Abstract

The immunological and molecular characteristics and methods of ANCA testing were briefly presented in the paper. Biochemical tests for ANCA are important in the diagnosis of autoimmune diseases, both systemic and cutaneous. The consensus on ANCA testing requires screening with indirect immunofluorescence and confirmation in antigen (MPO- and PR3-ANCA) specific assays. Physicians, both internists of various subspecialties and dermatologists, while interpreting the results of ANCA laboratory assays should be aware of methodological/technical caveats of such assays.
