- Abstract
Maps of natural vulnerability to soil erosion are important cartographic products for environmental analysis and serve as an aid to management plans and territorial planning. An integrated analysis of the elements of the physical environment and land use and occupation in the region of Morro do Osso and its vicinity (Porto Alegre/RS) was performed using a Geographic Information System (GIS), geomathic techniques and Ecodynamics concept, in order to develop a natural vulnerability to soil erosion mapping. The results show that there is no predominance of morphogenetic processes over the pedogenic processes in the study area, with 99,9% being classified, at least, as the thematic class "Moderately Stable/Vulnerable" to erosional processes. The stability of the terrain is due to the geologic subtract and the widely presence of vegetation cover. Field survey validates the stability of the area to erosional processes, which are restrict to human traffic areas (trails). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
