Follicular lymphoma (FL) is the most common of indolent non-Hodgkin's lymphomas. Its first-line treatment, based on immuno-chemotherapy with the anti-CD20 monoclonal antibody rituximab, is characterized by a high overall response rate to therapy. However, the disease is not curable in most cases and frequent relapses and transformations to other higher-grade lymphomas are observed. The effectiveness of the treatment of relapsed or refractory FL is not satisfactory, therefore the novel drugs are under investigation. Data from clinical trials with tazemetostat (an EZH2 inhibitor) in a group of patients with confirmed presence of the EZH2 mutation showed that this treatment may be an alternative to currently used chemotherapy regimens.

Unlabelled: Functional dyspepsia is often accompanied by emotional disturbances, especially in postmenopausal women. Impaired homeostasis of the dopaminergic system maybe one of the common pathogenetic factors. The aim of the study was to assess the effect of drugs which block dopamine D2 receptors on psychosomatic condition in postmenopausal women., Material and Methods: The study was conducted in a group of 60 women, aged 53-61 years, with postprandial distress syndrome (PDS) that met the Rome Criteria III. The severity of dyspeptic symptoms was determined statistically using a 10-point Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). The emotional state was estimated with the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), whereas the body mass index (BMI) was the indicator of the nutritional status. Sulpiride (2 x 50 mg) was administered to 30 women for 16 weeks and itopride (2 x 50 mg) to 30 others., Results: After sulpiride and itopride treatment equal decrease of dyspeptic symptoms was observed, respectively from 9.08 to 4.76 pts and from 9.02 to 4.64 pts. Significant reduction in the level of anxiety (p < 0.001) and depression (p < 0.01) was obtained in both groups, slightly higher after sulpiride. However, no significant change in BMI was found., Conclusions: Sulpiride and itopride are effective in the treatment of dyspepsia in the form of postprandial distress syndrome. These drugs in the several-month treatment have no significant effect on body weight.

Dilutional hyponatremia is the most common electrolyte disorder occurring in heart failure (HF). The relation between hyponatremia and increased morbidity and mortality is widely evidenced. Treatment of this condition is circumscribed by strict correlation of electrolyte and water balance, though. Neurohormonal activation in HF is the effect of compensatory mechanisms due to insufficient effective blood volume. One of the factors is increased serum argininovasopressin (AVP) concentration. The principal effects of this action are free water retention via V2 receptor and vasoconstriction by V(1A) receptor. Stimulation of V(1A) receptor also contributes to heart muscle remodeling. Diuretics are still the basic treatment of hypervolemia. At the same time they have a very unfavorable side effect in the form of exacerbating hyponatremia. The new direction of investigations occurred after noticing the spectacular aquaretic effect of antagonizing AVP receptors. The effect is new group of drugs--vasopressin receptor antagonists called the vaptans. Unlike the diuretics, they cause free water excretion without electrolyte loss. The registration includes in-hospital treatment of states of hyponatremia (conivaptan, tolvaptan, mozavaptan), the two other (lixivaptan, satavaptan) are undergoing research. Apart from improving clinical status, there is still no evidence of improving the patients' survival. Further research in this field is necessary to demonstrate whether there is prognosis amelioration in short-term and long-term patients' observation.

Inhaled bronchodilators such as beta(2)-agonists and muscarinic antagonists help to prevent and control symptoms in COPD patients, reduce the frequency and severity of exacerbations, improve health status and exercise tolerance and have an acceptable safety profile. For patients with moderate to severe COPD combining bronchodilators from different classes long acting beta(2)-agonists or long acting muscarinic antagonists (LABA/LAMA) are recommended. Indacaterol with 24 hours duration and fast onset of bronchodilation is the first once daily dosing LABA. Indacaterol used alone or in combination with LAMA may be advantageous through simplification of treatment regimens as well as improvement the efficacy. As COPD progresses and patient has repeated exacerbations triple therapy LABA/LAMA/ICS may be required. The addition of PDE4 inhibitor (roflumilast) to LABA or LAMA in patients with severe COPD, improves lung function and reduces exacerbation frequency. The reduction in exacerbation frequency is similar to that seen in the studies on bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroids therapy. PDE4 inhibitors have been shown to play a role in severe COPD and they are effective particularly in combination with other pharmacological agents. Based on the results of studies combining different classes of the drugs seems to be an important step towards the goal of optimal control for COPD patients.

ADHD is a frequent disorder that occurs among approximately 5-10% of school children. Treating this syndrome, pharmacotherapy with different forms of psychotherapy are applied. In many European countries and in the USA the primary medicines are the psychostymulative ones; in Poland, however, they are not registered in the Pharmacopeia. Thus, what seems to be important is seeking other drugs that can be useful in ADHD treatment. In the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Clinic in Poznań, a group of 15 children (13 boys, 2 girls) at the age of 6-13 were recognised to have ADHD; they were administered moclobemid (Aurorix) in dose of 75-225 mg/d throughout the period of 8 weeks. The medicine efficacy was being estimated with psychometric, questionnaire, and experimental methods. After 4 weeks, the drug ceased to be administered to two children due to complete lack of improvement or deterioration in functioning. It was observed that in the rest of the children their attention and hyperactivity functioning improved significantly. It is essential that the medicine was well tolerated and undesirable symptoms occurred rarely.
