Abstract

The article presents a study which examines the socio-political changes in the views and attitudes of religious leaders of Shia Islam in Iran. Particular focus is given to the historical period of the Constitutional Movement in 1906 and the National Movement in 1952. The views of the religious leaders about governmental modernization during the two periods are compared.
