Background & Aims Suicide and suicidal thoughts among adolescents have become a worrying psychosocial problem. This study aims to evaluate suicidal ideation among adolescents from the west of Tehran, Iran. Materials & Methods In this descriptive cross-sectional study, 256 boys and girls were selected from second-grade high schools in the west of Tehran by a convenience sampling method in 2022. The data collection tools were a sociodemographic form and the Beck scale for suicidal ideation (BSSI), which were completed using a self-report method. The collected data were analyzed in SPSS software, version 16 using descriptive and inferential statistics (independent t-test, analysis of variance). Results The mean age of the participants was 17.33±0.67 years. The mean score of BSSI was 3.19±5.66 out of 5. Among the sociodemographic factors, suicidal ideation had a statistically significant relationship only with the grade point average (P=0.004). Conclusion It is recommended to design and implement programs to educate and provide psychiatric services to high school students in Iran to reduce their suicidal ideation.

Background & Aims: Due to the increasing number of older women with anxiety sensitivity, attention to this condition in this vulnerable group is of particular importance. Spiritual wellbeing can promote the mental health of the elderly, especially older women. this study aims to determine the relationship between spiritual wellbeing and anxiety sensitivity of older women in Ashtian, Iran. Materials & Methods: This is a descriptive-correlational study. The study population includs all older women referred to urban and rural health centers in Ashtian city. Of these, 160 were selected by a continuous sampling method. A demographic form, the Spiritual Wellbeing Scale and the Anxiety Sensitivity Index-Revised were used to collect information. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics in SPSS software, version 16. Results: The mean±sd total scores of spiritual wellbeing and anxiety sensitivity were 96.1±19.86 and 48.25±31.93, respectively. Background & Aims: Mothers of children with autism face many problems that can affect their life. On the other hand, spirituality, as one of the essential aspects of man’s life, has a significant relationship with human health. This study seeks to determine the spiritual well-being of mothers of children with autism. Materials & Methods: The type of present study was descriptive-cross-sectional. In this study, mothers were identified among the 7 schools for children with autism, and 200 people participated in the survey in stages, according to the inclusion criteria. The collected data were used using descriptive statistical methods such as setting frequency distribution tables, calculating numerical indices, and independent chi-square and t-test. The paired t-test was used to achieve the goals under SPSS software v. 16. Results: The Mean±SD spiritual well-being of mothers was 77.17±10.51. Mean±SD spiritual well-being (41.11±5.61) had the highest, and Mean±SD existential well-being (36.06±5.67) had the lowest score. Conclusion: In this study, the spiritual well-being dimension of spiritual well-being was in a better position compared to its Existential Dimension of Health. It can be said that the mothers participating in the present study are richer in spiritual well-being compared to existential health.

Background & Aims Heart failure is one of the important cardiovascular diseases, affecting 1% of people in their 50s and 10% of people in their 80s. People with heart failure, in addition to physical pain, often experience stress, anxiety, depression, and poor quality of life (QoL). Considering the importance of illness-related worries and spiritual intelligence (SI) in these people, this study aims to determine the relationship between SI and illness-related worries in people with heart failure in Mazandaran, Iran. Materials & Methods This is a descriptive-correlational study. Participants were 247 patients with heart failure admitted to Fatemeh Al-Zahra Hospital affiliated to Mazandaran University of Medical Sciences. To measure the variables, a demographic form, the spiritual intelligence scale of King & Decicco (2009), and the illness-related worries questionnaire. Descriptive statistics (No.[%], Mean±SD) and inferential statistics (Pearson correlation test, independent t-test) were used to analyze the data in SPSS software, version 16. Significance level was set at 0.05. Results The mean total scores of SI and illness-related worries were 61.20 ±16.10 and 86.70 ±19.97, respectively. Pearson correlation test results showed a negative significant relationship between illness-related worries and SI (r=-0.608, P=0.001). Cognitive independence domain of illness-related worries was strongly correlated with all SI domains, including critical existential thinking, personal meaning production, transcendental awareness, and conscious state expansion. The SI had a significant relationship with gender (P=0.001), marital status (P=0.014), economic status (P=0.002), employment status (P=0.018), education status (P=0.001), insurance coverage (P=0.001). The illness-related worries had a significant relationship with gender (P=0.001), history of diabetes (P=0.04), marital status (P=0.001), educational level (P=0.044), and insurance coverage (P=0.01). Conclusion To reduce the illness-related worries of people with heart failure, their SI should be improved using related interventions such as SI training programs.

Background & Aims: Epidemiological changes have made chronic diseases increasingly important. Hypertension is also known as a chronic disease. The high prevalence of hypertension has made the disease a significant health problem in communities. Spiritual health has been proposed as one of the health indicators and predictors of self-care in chronic diseases. This study aimed to determine the relationship between spiritual health and adherence to the treatment regimen in patients with hypertension. Materials & Methods: In this descriptive correlational study, 121 patients with hypertension were selected by continuous sampling method from cardiac clinics affiliated with Iran University of Medical Sciences, Iran, in 2020. The study data were collected through demographic information form and validated Ellison and Paloutzian spiritual health and Hil-Bone diet adherence questionnaires. For data analysis, we performed the statistical tests of the Spearman, independent t test, Chi-square, and analysis of variance in SPSS version 16. Results: This study shows a significant and negative relationship between spiritual health and adherence to the treatment regimen in patients with hypertension (P=0.001, r=-0.05). Conclusion: As spiritual health increases, adherence to the treatment regimen in patients with hypertension decreases. Spiritual health in this group of patients leads to less adherence to the treatment regimen.

Moral necessities in the field of children's cancer are among the most important issues in medical services. The present study was conducted to explore this issue based on a case discussed during the medical ethics round in Tehran Children's Medical Center. A 13 year-old girl diagnosed with left ovarian cancer 5 years ago stated that she had not been informed about the disease and the type of surgery by her family, doctors and the medical staff. The family even denied the child's disease, but she was struggling to adapt to the situation and eventually recovered after chemotherapy and surgery. Findings of the present study showed that through observance of moral necessities, health workers can assist children suffering from cancer and their families to better adapt to the situation. Background & Aims Diagnosis with cancer can change the meaning of life. When people with cancer correctly perceive the meaning of life, they learn how to fight the disease and finally. The present study aims to investigate the meaning of life in Iranian people with leukemia. Materials & Methods This is a descriptive research. The study population consists of all people with leukemia admitted to the oncology departments of two hospitals in Tehran in 2022. Of these, 200 eligible patients were selected using a continuous sampling method. The data collection tools included a demographic form and Steger’s meaning of life questionnaire (MLQ), as a self-report tool. Descriptive and inferential statistics (analysis of variance, independent t-test) were used for data analysis in SPSS v.16 software. Results The mean MLQ score was 57.13±11.39. Also, the mean score for the dimension of the presence of meaning (29.14±5.90) was higher than the score for the dimension of the search for meaning (27.98±6.21). The MLQ score was significantly different only based on the marital status (P=0.011); the mean MLQ score in married patients was significantly higher. Conclusion The results of this research can be a step towards the implementation of training programs based on meaning of life by nurses for people with leukemia to improve the presence of meaning in life and the search for it in these patients.

Background and Objectives: General health problems that can create major challenges are common among health care providers such as nurses. This study aims to determine the general health of nurses in special care units of hospitals in Qom, Iran. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in 2019 on 300 nurses working in intensive care and critical care units of three teaching hospitals affiliated to Qom University of Medical Sciences who were selected using a consensus sampling method. Data were collected using a demographic form and the General Health Questionnaire. Data were analyzed in SPSS v. 16 using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: The results showed that 52.3% of nurses were exposed to general health problems. The mean score of general health was 25.43± 8.84. The highest score (lowest level) was related to social function domain (13.27±1.94) while the lowest score (highest level) was belonged to depression (2.1±1.24). There was no significant relationship between nurses ’demographic factors and general health. Conclusion: To reduce the general health problems of nurses in special care units of hospitals in Qom city, psychological interventions should be provided to them by nursing managers.
