The purpose of this research was to investigate the effectiveness of executive functions training program on sleep quality and moral judgment of children with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder. The research method was semi-experimental with a pre-test-post-test design and follow-up with a control group. The statistical population of the research included all 9-12-year-old boys with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder in Urmia city in 2022. The sample size includes 30 subjects from the statistical population were selected by available sampling method and they were placed in two control and experimental groups. The research tools included the Child Sleep Habits Questionnaire and the moral judgment Test. The results showed that the training program of executive functions had a significant effect on improving sleep quality and moral judgment in the post-test and follow-up stages. The findings of this research provide useful information related to the executive functions program, and counselors and psychologists can use this intervention to improve sleep quality and moral judgment in children with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder.

Abstract The present study was conducted investigating the psychometric properties of the Behavioral Rating Inventory of Executive Functions - Second Edition (BRIEF-2) in students with externalizing behavior problems. The method was based on correlation research. The statistical population consisted of all male students with behavioral problems between the ages 7 and 12 in East Azarbayejan province who were studying in the academic year 2021-2022. To select the sample, first, students with externalizing behavior problems were identified. Then their parents completed the parent form of Behavioral Rating Inventory of Executive Functions - Second Edition (BRIEF-2) and Coolidge's Neuropsychological Questionnaire (2002). The data was analyzed with 599 people. Cronbach's alpha coefficient, confirmatory factor analysis, and criterion validity were used to analyze the data. The results showed that the behavioral rating inventory of executive functions - second edition (BRIEF-2) has good reliability and validity. Therefore, this scale can be used to evaluate executive functions in students with externalizing behavior problems. Extended Abstract Introduction Externalizing problems such as disruptive behavior, aggression, and breaking rules can be a significant public health issue. These symptoms can have serious consequences for individuals, including dealing with disruptive behavior, feeling insecure or victimized, and incurring economic costs for prevention, treatment, and trials (Constanty et al., 2021). When evaluating children with externalizing behavior problems, it's important to assess their executive functions. Executive functions refer to the cognitive processes that are involved in regulating behavior, such as attention, working memory, and self-control. There is a relationship between executive functions and externalizing behavior problems, which means that how well a child can regulate their behavior is linked to their cognitive abilities. By assessing executive functions, we can better understand the cognitive and behavioral factors that contribute to externalizing behavior problems in children. The Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function, Second Edition (BRIEF-2) is currently the most widely used tool for measuring executive functions in children (Pino Muñoz et al., 2021; Parhoon et al., 2022). While BRIEF-2 is a comprehensive tool for assessing executive functions in children, its psychometric features have not been fully examined in children with externalizing behavior problems. The current research aims to answer the question of whether the psychometric characteristics of the BRIEF-2 parent form are appropriate for use in assessing executive functions in students with externalizing behavior problems. Research Question Are the psychometric characteristics of the BRIEF-2 parent form suitable for assessing executive functions in students with externalizing behavior problems? Literature Review Anastasiadis (2023) conducted a study to examine the clinical usefulness of the BRIEF-2 and its associated scales in differentiating between pediatric ADHD presentations and comorbidity. The study used archival data from 211 children between the ages of 5 and 12 who were seen at a university-based ADHD Evaluation Clinic. Ratings from parents and teachers were analyzed separately. The results of the study were consistent with predictions, showing that the Emotional Regulation Index (ERI) was highest in the combined presentation of ADHD. Parhoon et al., (2021) conducted a study to examine the psychometric properties of the Persian version of BRIEF-2 parent-form in children between the ages of six and 12 years. The study used confirmatory factor analysis to analyze the internal structure of the BRIEF-2. The results showed that the model with three indexes (Behavioral, Emotional, and Cognitive) and nine scales (Inhibit, Shift, Self-Monitor, Emotional Control, Initiate, Working Memory, Plan/Organize, Organization of Materials, and Task-Monitor) had a good fit. Jiménez & Lucas-Molina (2019) conducted a study to examine two aspects of BRIEF-2 in a sample of primary school-aged children. The results of the study showed that the confirmatory factor analysis of BRIEF-2 revealed a good fit for the sample. The model with three indexes (Behavioral, Emotional, and Cognitive) and nine scales (Inhibit, Shift, Self-Monitor, Emotional Control, Initiate, Working Memory, Plan/Organize, Organization of Materials, and Task-Monitor) was found to be an appropriate fit for the data. Methodology The current research used a descriptive correlational-normative study method. The statistical population for this study included all male students between the ages of 7 and 12 years old who had behavioral problems and were studying in East Azarbaijan province during the academic year of 2021-2022. The final analysis of the current research included data from 599 questionnaires. The researchers used three different tools to collect data: The Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL), the Behavioral Rating Scale of Executive Functions - Second Edition (BRIEF-2), and the Coolidge Neuropsychological Questionnaire. The researchers used two different software programs, SPSS and Lisrel, to examine the psychometric properties of the BRIEF-2. Results The results of the confirmatory factor analysis of BRIEF-2 in Table 1 and Figure 2 showed that all fit indices, including the square root of the mean error of approximation (RMSEA), were within the desired range. Estimation of standardized coefficients Discussion The results of the study showed that the BRIEF-2 has good reliability, as indicated by the examination of Cronbach's alpha coefficients and internal consistency. Additionally, the confirmatory factor analysis confirmed the three-factor model of the scale and its nine components. This suggests that the three-factor structure of the BRIEF-2 is desirable and acceptable in the studied population of school-aged children with externalizing behavioral problems. This finding is in line with the research results of Parhoon et al. (2022), Parhoon et al. (2021), Anastasiadis (2023) and Jiménez & Lucas-Molina (2019). One limitation of this study is that the statistical population was limited to primary school-aged male students with externalizing behavioral problems. Therefore, caution should be taken when generalizing the results to other groups of children. Additionally, the data used in this study was limited to participants from East Azarbaijan province. This means that the results may not be representative of other regions or populations. Besides all limitations, it is suggested that the BRIEF-2 be used as an evaluation and diagnostic tool for assessing executive functions in primary school-aged students with externalizing behavior problems. Conclusion The results of this study suggest that children with high levels of behavioral problems may experience more difficulties with executive functions, which can negatively impact their emotional and motivational abilities. Based on the desirable psychometric properties of the BRIEF-2 and its appropriate criterion validity, it can be used as a tool to evaluate the executive functions of primary school-aged students with externalizing behavior problems. Aim and Background: One of the common problems in physically-motor disabled people is psychological distress, defects in executive function and cognitive flexibility, which causes many negative consequences for these people, so the present study aims to determine the effectiveness of behavioral activation on performance. Executive and cognitive flexibility in physical-motor disabled people with psychological distress was done. Methods and Materials: The current research was a semi-experimental type with a pre-test and a post-test with a control group. The statistical population included all mild to moderate physical-motor disabilities who had a file in the welfare department of Babol city in 1401. Among them, 30 people were selected by the available sampling method and were replaced randomly and by lottery in two experimental and control groups (15 people in the experimental group and 15 people in the control group). The experimental group received behavioral activation therapy (8 sessions) and one session every week for 90 minutes, and the control group did not receive any intervention during this period. The research questionnaires included Barkley's implementation performance questionnaire (2011), Dennis and Vanderwaal's (2010) cognitive flexibility questionnaire, and Lavibond and Lavibond's (1995) psychological disturbance questionnaire. For data analysis, univariate covariance analysis was used with SPSS version 25 software. Findings: Our findings can be useful for selecting and designing the most appropriate treatment approach according to the needs of physical-motor disabled people with psychological distress. Conclusions: According to the findings, it can be stated that investigating the effectiveness of behavioral activation therapy is effective in increasing the executive function and cognitive flexibility of physically-motor disabled people with psychological distress.

this study was done to determine the effectiveness of executive function based parenting education program on cognitive flexibility and inhibitory control of preschool children. The research was a quasi–experimental study with a pretest–posttest–follow–up and a control group design. The statistical population consisted of approximately 8400 mothers with sons aged 4-6 years who had registered their children in the preschool centers of one of the twenty-two districts of Tehran in the academic year of 2021-2022. Cluster Multi-stage sampling was done and according to the entry and exit criteria of the study, 32 people were selected and randomly divided into two experimental and control groups of 16. To collect data, The Parenting Styles and Dimensions Questionnaire (PSDQ) (Robinson et al., 1995) and the Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function Preschool Version (BRIEF-P)(Gioia et al., 2003) were used. The aim of the present study is to compare the effectiveness of a parenting model based on executive function theory and the Barkley program on self-control in children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder. This study is an applied and randomized clinical trial. The study population is mothers with children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder in Isfahan in the spring and summer of 2018, of whom 45 subjects were purposively selected based on entry and baseline criteria and randomly divided into three groups (two experimental groups and one control group). Fifteen subjects were assigned to each group. The Self-Control Assessment Scale (SCRS) was used to measure the dependent variable at different stages of the study. The first experimental group received 12 sessions of the achievement theory- based parenting model, the second experimental group received 8 sessions of the Barkley program, and the control group received no treatment. Introduction: Autism spectrum disorder has been suggested as a neurological disorder that usually occurs in the early years of a child’s development. Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of active game intervention and Exergames on executive functions in children with autism. Method: The method of this research is quasi-experimental and applied in terms of purpose, which was done using a pretest-posttest design with a control group. The subjects of the present study were children with autism aged 7 to 10 years in Gorgan in 2021, from which 36 people were selected by convincing method from two centers of children with autism. The instruments used in this study included the Gilliam Autism Rating Scale and the Working Memory Test. The Stroop effect test was also used to measure selective attention. Data analysis was performed using analysis of covariance and SPSS software version 24. Results: The results showed that active game intervention had positive effects on working memory (P=0.001) and selective attention (P=0.001). In addition, Exergames intervention had positive effects on working memory (P=0.001) and selective attention (P=0.001). Conclusion: In general, the results of the present study emphasize the importance of using active games and exergames interventions to improve and strengthen executive functions in high-functioning autistic children.

The purpose of this research was to compare the effectiveness of cognitive rehabilitation training and sensory integration on executive function and memory of hyperactive students referring to educational and clinical centers in district 5 of Isfahan city. The current research was a semi-experimental study with a pre-test and post-test design with a control group with three stages of evaluation (pre-test, post-test and follow-up). The statistical community of all students referring to the educational and clinical centers of Isfahan city in the third quarter of 1400, 200 people who met the entry criteria, responded to the Connors parent questionnaire (hyperactivity). 45 people out of 60 people qualified to enter the study were selected as a sample and were randomly placed in three groups, and during three stages of evaluation, Connors Parent Questionnaire, Continuous Performance Test (CPT), Wisconsin Card Classification Test (WCST), Barat impulsivity scale and numeric span subscale of Wechsler IQ scale for children-revised form answered. The results of descriptive statistics and inferential statistics (multivariate covariance analysis, covariance analysis with repeated measures) with the help of spss-26 statistical software showed that the average age of the students participating in the research in the cognitive rehabilitation groups was 10.33, sensory integration 9.86 and control 10.46 years old. Also, the results showed that there is a difference between the effectiveness of cognitive rehabilitation training and sensory integration on executive functions and memory in three groups (cognitive rehabilitation training effectiveness, sensory integration and control group) in the post-test and follow-up of hyperactive students. . that there is a significant difference between both intervention groups and the control group, but there is no difference between the intervention groups (cognitive rehabilitation training and sensory integration) post-test and follow-up in terms of the effect on attention. As a result, students with hyperactivity/attention deficit often face problems with memory and executive functions. Background: many tools have ever been constructed to determine dimensions of the executive functions. But there was no tool which could provide basic executive functions and learning-educational fields for identifying the disturbance and delay of the children and adolescents' executive functions and learning performance. Aims: this study aimed at reviewing the psychometric indices of the Persian versions of executive functioning and the performance and learning of )Castellano, Kronenberger and Pisoni,2018) scale to identify the disturbance and delay on performance and learning functions. Method: the design of present study was descriptive - correlation; factor analysis. The statistical population consisted of all 7-17-year-old children and adolescents, among which 456 individuals were selected through random sampling method. In order to collect data, the Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function scale of Gioia et al. (2000), shortened CHAOS (Conduct- Hyperactive- Attention Problem- Oppositional Symptom) scale of Levy et al. (2013), Learning, Executive, and Attention Functioning scale (LEAF) of Castellano et al. (2012), Golden's Stroop Color and Word Rest (1978), and neuro-psychological tools including Yamaguchi and Proctor (2012) test of assignment progress and Woodcock's (2001) Tests of Achievement were used. Results: analytic results of confirmative factor indicate the desirable practice of the model with the data. Results of Cronbach's alpha coefficient (0.90) showed the internal consistency of the scale. Furthermore, the correlation between executive function scale, attention performance and learning and associated micro scales behavior rating inventory of executive function, conduct- hyperactive- attention problem- oppositional symptom, and neuro-psychological signals indicates great internal and structural validity among the behavioral checklists. Conclusions: The results of the study demonstrated that the scale of executive functions, attention performance and learning are reliable and valid tools to be applied in experimental research, and even clinical atmosphere to identify individuals who face deficiencies or delay on performance functions and educational problems.

This study was conducted to determine the effect of Nintendo Wii-based motor and cognitive training on executive function of children with attention-deficit/ hyperactivity disorder. Statistical population of this research included boys with ADHD, aged 8-11. Years. 27 eligible participants were selected from Avand development center and were randomly assigned and were randomly assigned to an experimental and control group. The experimental group participated in a selected gaming program for 24 sessions, 60 minutes per session. At the beginning of the study and after eight weeks of intervention, participants were assessed with Corsi-Block-Tapping test, GO/No-Go test and Tower of London (TOL) test. R Statistical software were used for data analysis. The resulting data were analyzed using ANCOVA and MANCOVA. The results showed that working memory and response inhibition in the experimental group were significantly improved in comparison to the control group, in assessing planning, there were significant differences between groups in TOL score that measured correct solved problems. But there were no differences in TOL scores that measure performance of planning time and planning speed (P >0.05).. These results suggest that Nintendo Wii game playing might be a simple and cost effective way for improving executive function of ADHD children.

The purpose of this research was to examine the effectiveness of self-Regulation training in adolescents with ADHD for improvement of their executive function and ADHD symptoms. The statistical population was all male adolescents with ADHD in a school in Tehran (2019). The present study was a clinical experiment. For this purpose, 32 high school students in one of the Tehran schools were selected using the random sampling method. For measurement, the Barkley Deficits in Executive Functioning Scale—Children and Adolescents (BDEFS-CA), and the Conners' Teacher Rating Scale (CTRS) were used. Following the pre-test, the participants in the experimental group received self-regulation training. Two months later, the follow-up test was performed. Finally, data were analyzed using covariance analyses. The results of statistical analyses indicated that in the post-test all variables including mind organization, ability to targeting, problem-solving, and self-motivation improved; also, ADHD symptoms decreased. In the two-month follow-up, the ability of problem-solving did not significantly increase. The targeting ability, both in the post-test and in the follow-up, despite of increase, was not meaningful due to the low size effect of. The results indicated that intervention can have positive effects on executive function and reduce ADHD symptoms, but to be more effective, the training needed to be longer and accompanied by practice.

Background and Aim: Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder are a good target group for cognitive rehabilitation Because their behavioral problems, including inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity, have a specific cognitive and cerebral origin. This adaptation of behavior to cognitive function provides an opportunity to repair behavior by strengthening cognitive function. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of cognitive rehabilitation based on virtual reality technology as a new method and classical cognitive rehabilitation in improving the executive functions of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Methods & Materials: This research was a quasi-experimental study using a pre-test-post-test design with a control group. The statistical population included all children aged 7-12 years with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in Tehran in 1398 who were selected by convenience sampling method and randomly divided into 3 groups of 12 people. In the pre-test stage, participants were assessed with the Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Rating Scale and the Computer Integrated Visual and Auditory Test (IVA-2). The first group received a virtual reality-based cognitive rehabilitation package and the second group received a Captain Log computer cognitive rehabilitation package, 12 sessions twice a week. No intervention was performed in the control group during this period. Post-tests were taken from all 3 groups after the intervention. Univariate analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was used to analyze the data using SPSS software v. 26. Ethical Considerations: This study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Islamic Azad University, Central Tehran Branch (Code: IR.IAU.CTB.REC.1400.001). Results: The results showed that both methods of cognitive rehabilitation intervention had a significant effect on cognitive functions (selective attention, sustained attention) of Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) children (P<0.01). But no significant difference was observed between the mean scores of selective attention and sustained attention in the first experimental group and the second experimental group (P>0.05). Conclusion: Virtual reality-based cognitive rehabilitation is as effective as classical cognitive rehabilitation on selective attention and sustained attention in children with ADHD. Executive function deficits are common in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). This research aims to assess effects of remedial rehabilitation on executive functions in preschool children with ADHD symptoms. In the current random clinical trial study pretest, posttest and follow-up design with control group were used. Statistical society includes all preschool ADHD children who referred to counselling centers in Tehran between 2016 -2017. Assessments include ADHD symptom checklist-4 (Gadow & Sprafkin, 1998) and Behavioral rating of executive function-preschool (Gioia,epsy& squith, 2002) questionnaires. After initial assessment by ADHD questionnaire, Thirty two children, who significantly had symptoms, selected by accessible sampling and randomly divided in to experimental group (N=15) and control group (N=17). Intervention group received ARAM computerized cognitive rehabilitation program for 12 sessions in 20 minute, while control group received no treatment. Both groups examined in posttest and follow-up. Data analyzed by repeated measure variance analysis. Result showed remediation rehabilitation significantly improves executive function and ADHD symptoms. We can conclude the remedial rehabilitation by computerized tasks improved cognitive abilities and reduced ADHD symptoms in preschool children.

Materials & Methods: The quasi-experimental research method was pretest-posttest with a control group with a follow-up period. From the statistical population that included all seventh-grade male students in Birjand in the academic year 2019-2020, 40 people were selected by available sampling method and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups (20 people in each group); they answered "academic vitality" and "academic performance" questionnaires. Background & Aims: Autoimmune and chronic diseases cause many psychological problems by directly and indirectly affecting the nervous system. Lupus is one of the autoimmune diseases that, in addition to the problems caused by the nature of the disease itself, the side effects of its drugs also cause emotional and mental disturbances. The prevalence of lupus in women is about 9 times higher than in men, and the patients are usually between 15 and 45 years old. In Iran, according to a study conducted by the Rheumatology Research Center of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, lupus has a prevalence of 40 in 100,000, that is, 1 person per 2,500 Iranians is diagnosed with lupus. People with lupus Erythematosus experience many skin ulcers, joint pains, periodicity of the disease, side effects of medications, and stressful events. In the framework of psychological interventions for people with lupus, in recent years acceptance-based therapy (ACT) and commitment is a non-pharmacological strategy and among the effective treatment lines for patients with physical diseases. This therapeutic approach is part of the third wave of behavioral therapies, which aims to help clients achieve a more valuable and satisfying life by increasing psychological flexibility and not focusing solely on cognitive reconstructions. Research has emphasized the effectiveness of cognitive functions and attention management and executive function by ACT in patients with chronic diseases. For example, Menshi et al showed in their research in 2015 that ACT can improve people's executive function by adjusting incompatible schemas, however, no research was found regarding the effectiveness of this treatment method in people with lupus. In addition to ACT, another psychological approach and non-pharmacological strategies that have been proposed to improve psychological and functional variables such as attention and executive function in people with lupus is short-term intensive dynamic psychotherapy (ISTDP). The goal of ISTDP or psychoanalysis is to help clients achieve a full experience of repressed emotions and the fantasies and memories that are repressed by these emotions. By clarifying defenses and challenging them, ISTDP focuses on experiencing unconscious feelings and emotions to increase awareness. It is a psychological process that can help you change how you react to life's inevitable hardships. The review of the literature showed that even though several studies on the effectiveness of ACT and also the ISTDP approach have been conducted separately on different populations, no study compares these two treatment approaches in patients with lupus Erythematosus. The present study was conducted to compare the effectiveness of ACT and ISTDP on attention and executive function in lupus Erythematosus patients. Methods: The current research was a semi-experimental single-subject type with multiple baseline designs. The participants of this study were 6 people with lupus, members of the Lupus Patients Support Association in Tehran, who were selected as available and randomly assigned to two groups of three. The tools used in the research included the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test and the Stroop Test. The subjects of the first group received ACT and the subjects of the second group (ISTDP) individually in 8 sessions of 90 minutes. To analyze the data, the effect size was used. Results: Regarding effect size calculations in Stroop dimensions between treatment groups, the results generally showed that the ACT method had a more significant effect than ISTDP in the extent of reaction time. In terms of reducing the number of errors in the error of the first stage, the effect size in the ACT group is medium and in the ISTDP group, slightly too high, in the second and third stages, both are high, but the magnitude of the effect is higher in the second stage in the ISTDP and in the third stage in the ACT group. Regarding the calculation of effect size and index of stable change in Wisconsin dimensions between treatment groups, the results of the study also showed that the average effect size in the residual error of the first and second stages of the Wisconsin test in the ACT group is higher than the average effect of the ISTDP group. In terms of increasing the number of correct answers in the first and second stages, the effect size in the ACT group is lower than in the ISTDP group. Conclusion: The results of the study showed that despite the effectiveness of ISTDP on the attention and executive function of patients with lupus Erythematosus, ACT had more effectiveness than ISTDP on the attention and executive function of patients with lupus Erythematosus, hence this approach along with other approaches The existing treatment is recommended as a suitable option to improve attention and executive function in people with lupus Erythematosus. It is also suggested that health therapists pay attention to the findings of this research and the discussion of executive functions to enrich their diagnostic formulation, and if they find a symptom in executive functions, they should use cognitive interventions in this direction. Due to the problems in collecting samples from patients with lupus Erythematosus, the available sampling method was used in this research. Therefore, the selected sample group is less representative of the entire society and the results cannot be generalized. Also, this research was considered without a control group and follow-up stage. The same researcher and therapist in ACT may also increase the possibility of bias in the results. Background: Bipolar disorder is a debilitating psychiatric disorder characterized by recurrent depression, manic and hippomanic episodes. The effect of a dialectical behavior therapy on executive functions in bipolar disorders has not been addressed so far. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of the dialectical behavior therapy on executive function in the bipolar disorder. Materials and Methods: Sixty patients with a bipolar disorder were randomly assigned to the intervention (the dialectical behavior therapy combined with medication) and control (only medication) groups. The questionnaires and tests were used at baseline, after 12 weeks intervention, and three months after the intervention. Participants in the intervention group received twelve 90-min sessions of the standard dialectical behavior therapy for the bipolar disorder. Results: The results showed that the intervention group had a lower score in mania, and depression. Also, the intervention group had a higher score in executive functions after three months intervention and three months follow-up. Conclusion: The dialectical behavior therapy in combination with medication can lead to reduce manic and depression symptoms, and improve performance of the patients in planning and problem-solving.

The purpose of this study was to compare executive function, emotional regulation and Working memory in students with and without anxiety. The present study was descriptive and used a causal-comparative design. The population of the study consisted of all sixth grade male elementary students in Varamin in academic year 2017-2018. A sample of 150 students (75 students with anxiety And 75 students without anxiety) gathered by Cluster random sampling and participated in a causal- comparative study. In order to diagnose Anxiety disorder, an executive function test was first taken. Both groups of students were Matched in terms of intelligence, parental education, age and gender. The data were collected through the Coolidge Executive Functioning Questionnaire (2002), the Garnfsky Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (2002), the Daneman & Carpenter Working Memory Questionnaire (1980), and the Reynolds & Richmond Manifest Anxiety Scale (1987). Independent t-test and multivariate analysis of variance were used to analyze the data. The Findings showed that Students with anxiety have lower mean scores in executive function test than students without anxiety and the difference is statistically significant (t =- 5.51, df = 59, sig = 0.001). Findings also showed that the mean scores in refocusing / planning strategies, positive evaluation and acceptance (components for emotional regulation) in the group without anxiety is higher than with anxiety and other strategies in the group with anxiety are higher than the group without anxiety. Finally, the different mean score for working memory (t = 0.84, df = 59, sig = 0.4) in the two groups (students with and without anxiety) was not significant. high anxiety is more likely to result in problems for executive functions, emotional regulation and working memory. Considering above mentioned finding, it seems that in order to increase the physical, mental and social health of students, executive functions and cognitive emotion regulation strategies training is absolutely essential.

Background and Aim: Children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder are a good target group for cognitive rehabilitation Because their behavioral problems, including inattention, impulsivity, and hyperactivity, have a specific cognitive and cerebral origin. This adaptation of behavior to cognitive function provides an opportunity to repair behavior by strengthening cognitive function. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of cognitive rehabilitation based on virtual reality technology as a new method and classical cognitive rehabilitation in improving the executive functions of children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Methods & Materials: This research was a quasi-experimental study using a pre-test-post-test design with a control group. The statistical population included all children aged 7-12 years with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in Tehran in 1398 who were selected by convenience sampling method and randomly divided into 3 groups of 12 people. In the pre-test stage, participants were assessed with the Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Rating Scale and the Computer Integrated Visual and Auditory Test (IVA-2). The first group received a virtual reality-based cognitive rehabilitation package and the second group received a Captain Log computer cognitive rehabilitation package, 12 sessions twice a week. No intervention was performed in the control group during this period. Post-tests were taken from all 3 groups after the intervention. Univariate analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was used to analyze the data using SPSS software v. 26. Ethical Considerations: This study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Islamic Azad University, Central Tehran Branch (Code: IR.IAU.CTB.REC.1400.001). Results: The results showed that both methods of cognitive rehabilitation intervention had a significant effect on cognitive functions (selective attention, sustained attention) of Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) children (P0.05). Conclusion: Virtual reality-based cognitive rehabilitation is as effective as classical cognitive rehabilitation on selective attention and sustained attention in children with ADHD. Virtual reality-based cognitive rehabilitation can be used as a new approach to rehabilitating this disorder.

Aim and Background: The deficits of executive functions, as higher cognitive functions, are of the main criteria of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The disorder tends to disrupt in behavior learning and academic performance. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of the curriculum of executive functions based on the Anderson’s executive control model on learning behaviors and academic performance among the students with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Methods and Materials: This was a semi-experimental study with pre-posttest design with two experimental and control groups. The target population of this research was the total of students with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder among all sixth grade elementary schools in district 15 of Tehran City, Iran. 30 students were selected using random sampling, and divided into two groups of experimental and control. The experimental group received ten working sessions of curriculum of executive functions based on the Anderson’s model. The used tools were Conners Teacher Questionnaire, Dortaj Academic Performance Questionnaire, and McDermott Learning Behaviors Scale (LBS). Data were analyzed using multivariate analysis of covariance method. Findings: The curriculum of executive functions based on the Anderson’s model effectively increased self-efficacy, emotional effects, planning, and lack of control of the outcomes of educational performance (P < 0.001 for all). In addition, it significantly increased motivation of competency, attitude toward learning, persistence/attention, and the flexibility strategy of learning behaviors (P < 0.001 for all). Conclusions: The curriculum of executive functions based on the Anderson’s executive control model has an impact on improving the learning behaviors and academic performance among the students with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder.

Aims: Impairment in executive functions can result in impaired self-regulatory behavior and social skills deficiency, and experiential avoidance is a strong predictor of psychological signs and symptoms. This study was aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy on executive function and experiential avoidance among veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Materials & Methods: This study was conducted in a quasi-experimental, pretest-posttest design with control group in 2017. The studied population was included all male veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder referred to Quds hospital in Sanandaj. 40 veterans were selected using available sampling method and were divided randomly in two experimental and control groups. The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of executive function and social-emotional training on performance of continuous attention (the correct answer to image and numbers, reaction time about images and reaction time about numbers) among the girl students with learning disability in 3-5 grades at district 5 in Tehran. The method of this research was quasi-experimental and pre- test and post- test with control group design. For identifying students with mathematical learning disability was used Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders- 5, Raven test, and Iran Key math diagnostic test. Identified students were randomly assigned to two experimental groups and one control group (n= 7, in each group). They did performance of continuous attention test in pre-test and post-test. The first and second experimental groups received executive function and social-emotional training respectively, and control group did not receive any treatment. The data were analyzed with MANCOVA. Results showed that social-emotional training leads to improve performance of continuous attention (in the correct answer to images and numbers, and reaction time about numbers). Effectiveness of executive function training on performance of continuous attention is not significant, and there is not significant difference between the effects of executive function training and social - emotional training on the performance of continuous attention. In general, it can be concluded that sociol-emotional learning is a good way to increase performance of continuous attention in students with mathematical learning disorders.

Introduction: Children with cochlear implants, due to previous hearing deprivation, have damages in the areas of neuropsychological skills, including their executive functions. Since the executive functions are linked with a range of skills such as speech, language, communication, and education, this research aimed to investigate the effectiveness of training neuropsychological skills on executive function problems in deaf students with cochlear implants. Materials and Methods: This study was a single-subject research with A-B design. The study population consisted of all deaf children with cochlear implants at the age of 6 to 12 years in Isfahan City, Iran. Among them, 5 were selected using purposive sampling method. The research instrument was the Connors Neuropsychological Questioner. To analyze the obtained data, after drawing the diagrams, we used visual analyses, trending, and stability, as well as percentages of non-overlapping and overlapping data. Results: The mean scores of 5 subjects decreased from 62.47, 58.12, 61.19, 61.46, and 59.61 at the baseline to 48.22, 51.21, 49.30, 49.74, and 50.94 at the end of intervention, respectively. According to the visual analyses of the data diagrams, the intervention was effective on the studied subjects. The percentage of non-overlapping data in the two baseline and intervention situations for the subjects was 90%, 70%, 90%, 100%, and 80%. This effectiveness was observable in the follow-up stage. Conclusion: According to the results of this study, we can judge that training neuropsychological skills reduce executive function problems in deaf students with cochlear implans, and this approach can be used in the training and rehabilitation centers of children with cochlear implants.

Introduction Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) often have difficulty performing basic motor skills, such as walking, running, and maintaining adequate balance, due to cognitive impairments. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of Sensory-Motor Integration Activities (SMIA) on balance and executive function, such as attention and working memory, in children with moderate to severe ASD. Material and Method This was a semi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest design and a control group. A purposive sampling method was used to select 30 boys aged 5 to 9 years with ASD from Tehran Growth Center (from early April to the end of September 2022), who were randomly assigned to either the experimental or control group. The experimental group received SMIA for 24 sessions over two months (three 60-minute sessions per week), while the control group remained on the waiting list during this period. Data were collected using the Berg Balance Scale (BBS) and the Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function (BRIEF) questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 21. Results The results of one-way ANCOVA analysis showed that the experimental group had a significant increase in balance and a significant decrease in executive function performance, including attention and working memory, compared to the control group (p < 0.001). The effect size of SMIA treatment was 0.89 for balance, 0.79 for attention, and 0.63 for working memory, indicating a strong therapeutic effect, high statistical accuracy, and sufficient sample size. Conclusion It can be concluded that SMIA improves balance and executive function in boys with ASD. Therefore, low-cost sensory-motor activities and exercises can be used to enhance physical balance and cognitive function in children with autism, enabling them to have better physical and mental health in society [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Chemotherapy as one of the main methods of cancer treatment has many side effects that one of them is the impact of this treatment on the brain. Objective: The aim of this study was to compare the executive functions in women diagnosed with breast cancer undergoing chemotherapy and healthy counterparts. Methods: In this case-control study, women with breast cancer (n=40) undergoing chemotherapy along with healthy women (n=40) with no history of chronic diseases using available sampling method and were selected from Tehran Shohada Tajrish Hospital (2015-2016). Data was collected using demographic characteristics questionnaire, anxiety and depression test, continuous performance test, and Wisconsin card category collected and was analyzed by the independent t test. Findings: In the continuous performance test, omission and commission errors, with weaknesses in speed tests in patients with breast cancer were higher than those in the control group and this difference was statistically significant. There was a significant difference between the two groups in which reflects the low number of correct answers and cluster with higher preservation in breast cancer patients compared to healthy counterparts. Conclusion: According to the results, deficits in executive functions caused by chemotherapy in cancer patients that require therapeutic measures in this field.

Objective Executive functions are referred to higher and self-tuning cognitive processes that help managing behaviors and thought controls. Executive functions in children are assessed in different ways. The most prestigious and valuable way is using daily functions reports on a child's natural environment. This study aimed to prepare the Persian version of behavior rating inventory of executive function-preschool (BRIFF-P) and study of its face and content validity among Iranian children. The questionnaire completed by parents of 2-5 years old children. Materials & Methods This study has methodological and psychometric design. We studied the Persian version of tests using standard protocols IQOLA and determined its validity. This protocol includes translation, evaluation of translation quality, backward translation, and comparing the English version with its Persian one. Face validity was determined by 20 samples (parent) and the impact score was measured. Content validity index (CVI) and ratio of the content validity (CVR) was determined by asking the opinions of 15 experts. Moreover, the simplicity, relevance, and transparency of each item was evaluated. Results Based on the simplicity and clarity of questionnaire items, over 80% agreement of the sample group indicated the simplicity and clarity of the items. also the difficult and complex items were discussed among experts in several sessions and as a result the simpler and clearer concepts took the place of difficult and ambiguous items. Then, the score of proportion index effect and relation of items for each of 63 items of questionnaire was calculated. the results showed that all items of questionnaire were simple and clear, also all items except 7 achieved impact score of higher than 1.5. To evaluate the content validity of the questionnaire, we used ratio of content validity and index calculation. Content validity showed that almost all items of the questionnaire achieved CVI score of higher than 0.79 (The lowest score was 0.8 and highest one was 1); however, as regards the index of relatedness, 3 items got scores lower than 0.79 The scores of the content validity ratio were more than 0.49, except the fifth item. Conclusion The Persian version of this questionnaire possesses a good match in terms of cultural and face validity. The results of content validity confirms that the Persian version is clear, simple, and understandable for the target society. However, 7 items of the questionnaire got scores lower than 1.5. of course, as in this study, the parents of normal children were investigated, the importance of these items in evaluation of abnormal children must be considered, because in many abnormal growth development of children (like attention deficit/hyperactivity, autism) such behaviors are clearly considered problematic. Therefore, the importance of these items are seen in final questionnaire and in spite of low score of 1.5 of some items, in the sample group (normal children), these items were kept and inserted in the final questionnaire. The results of content validity were also indicative of different cultural assumptions from some items of this questionnaire. We suggest that in future studies, the content validity of the Persian version was estimted with regard to opinions of parents of abnormal children with growth development problems and then the results were compared. We also suggest examining the other kinds of reliability and validity of this test.

Background. This study assessed the potential efficacy of donepezil in treating autism spectrum disorder (ASD), a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by social communication difficulties and repetitive behaviors. Donepezil, primarily used to treat Alzheimer’s disease as an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor, has gained attention as a potential treatment for ASD symptoms. Methods. Following PRISMA guidelines, a systematic review was conducted to investigate the effects of donepezil on individuals with ASD. Outcome measures assessed various aspects of ASD, including language skills, executive function, behavior, and core symptoms. Nine studies were identified, including four randomized controlled trials (RCTs), three retrospective studies, one open-label trial, and one case report. Results. One RCT reported significant improvements in expressive and receptive language skills, especially in younger children. Another study combining donepezil with choline supplementation showed enhanced receptive language skills, particularly in younger participants. An open-label trial indicated improved rapid eye movement sleep patterns in autistic children treated with donepezil. Several retrospective studies reported improvements in behavioral symptoms, such as aggression and hyperactivity. However, other RCTs did not find statistically significant improvements in executive functioning. Conclusion. In general, donepezil use in ASD demonstrates promise in specific areas, notably language development and behavioral symptom management. However, the results are contradictory, requiring further research to clarify its role, optimal dosing, long-term effects, and potential side effects in individuals with ASD. Practical Implications. The present study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of computer-based cognitive rehabilitation intervention on executive function and working memory performance in children with math disorder. Sample comprised of 30 students with math disorder selected via convenience sampling from elementary schools of districts 1, 3 and 5 of Tehran. The students were randomly divided into two groups (15 students in the control group and 15 students in the experimental group). In the process of research 5 students of the control group and 3 students of the experimental group dropped out. Finally the sample size decreased to 12 students in the experimental group and 10 in the control group. The experimental group participated in a computerized cognitive intervention called Brain Ware Safari for twenty five 45-to-60-minute sessions held in six weeks. Iran Key Math Diagnostic Test and Raven intelligence test were used for the evaluation of math skills and intelligence of the sample. CNS Vital Sign (CNSVS) was used in pre-test and post-test for the evaluation of executive function and working memory of the experimental and control group. The data were analyzed using the univariate covariance tests. Results indicated that computerized cognitive training could improve the executive functioning and working memory of the experimental group.

Introduction: Divorce is not only an event but also a process that has short-term and long-term effects on children. Aim: The present study was conducted to compare executive functions, sensory processing and theory of mind in children from divorced families and ordinary children. Method: This is causal-comparative research. The statistical population included 180 male and female students between 9 and 12 years old in Districts 5 and 18 of Tehran in the academic year 2021-2022 selected by convenience sampling method and divided in two groups of children from divorced families and ordinary children (n=90 in each group). For data collection, Executive Function System (D-KEFS) (Delis, Kaplan, & Kramer, 2001), Sensory Profile (Dunn, 1999) and Theory of Mind (Hutchins et al., 2012) were used. The research data was analyzed by independent t-test and SPSS 24. Results: The results showed a significant difference in working memory (t=6.08, P<0.05), mental flexibility (t=5.12, P<0.05), inhibitory control (t=7.16, P<0.05), sensory register (t=6.72, P<0.05), sensation-seeking (t=4.65, P<0.05) and sensory sensitivity (t=7.36, P<0.05), and theory of mind levels including level 1 (t=7.12, P<0.05), level 2 (t=7.14, P<0.05), and level 3 (t=9.32, P<0.05). The mean of ordinary children was higher than that of children from divorced families, but no significant difference was observed in the mean of sensory avoiding in both groups (P˃0.05). Conclusion: The status of executive functions, sensory processing and theory of mind in normal children was better than that of children from divorced families. Therefore, the use of educational programs to strengthen cognitive dimensions of the mind of children from divorced families with emphasis on executive functions, sensory processing and theory of mind can be effective on improving their cognitive performance. Background & Aims: Neurodevelopmental disorders are disorders that begin during the developmental period, often before the child enters school, and are characterized by developmental deficits that impair personal, social, academic, or occupational functioning. Neurodevelopmental disorder is a term used to describe neurological and mental disorders starting in childhood. Neurodevelopmental disorder includes specific learning and language disorders, motor coordination disorders, intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, tic disorders and defiant-obstinacy disorder. Among the neuro-developmental disorders, autism spectrum disorder is considered a complex neuro-developmental disorder that usually has problems in communication and social interaction, limited interests and repetitive behaviors. Most of these children are also impaired in theory of mind, symbolic play, and imitation skills. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, its prevalence has quadrupled in the last decade. Autism spectrum disorder is a lifelong condition that is generally stable and includes persistent impairments in language, deficits in social skills, and inability to perform daily activities. Social, behavioral, communication and language problems. Therefore, it is challenging for children with autism spectrum disorder to communicate socially with their parents and manage their behavior. Methods: The present research method was a semi-experimental research with a pretest and post-test design and a control group. The independent variable in this research was parenting education based on executive functions and the dependent variable was parenting stress and its subscales. The statistical population of the study included all parents (mothers) of children with neurodevelopmental disorders in Tehran, who were present in the medical clinics of Tehran and received specialized services. The sample of this research includes mothers of 15 children with autism spectrum disorder as the experimental group and mothers of 15 children with autism spectrum disorder as the control group were selected through purposive sampling and were randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups. The criteria for entering the study are: the presence of neuro-developmental disorders in children such as autism spectrum disorder, the age of children between 7 and 11 years, the absence of physical and mental illness of mothers, full consent of mothers to participate in the research and participation in all sessions by the researcher in considered The exclusion criteria were non-cooperation and non-participation of parents in more than two sessions. Results: For another assumption of univariate covariance analysis, Levine's test of homogeneity of variances was used to check the assumption of homogeneity of variances. In this research, the use of this test showed that the assumption of homogeneity of variances has been fulfilled for all variables because the variables of childhood and parent's territory have F-statistics equal to 3.48 and 2.43, respectively, with degrees of freedom of 28 and 1 at the significance level. Equal to 0.07 and 0.13, they have homogeneity of variances in groups. Whenever the value obtained for this test is greater than 0.05, the assumption based on the homogeneity of Levin's variances is confirmed. After confirming the presuppositions of univariate covariance analysis, the research hypotheses were checked. The data were analyzed by independent t-test. Data analysis showed that the experimental group compared to the control group, after participating in the training course, there was a statistically significant difference in test results. The results showed that parenting training based on executive functions had a positive effect on reducing the realm of childhood and the realm of parents with children with autism spectrum disorder Conclusion: The purpose of this research was to evaluate the effect of parenting education based on executive functions on reducing parental stress of parents with children with autism spectrum disorder. The results of the research indicated that parenting training based on executive functions was effective in reducing parental stress. In this research, the effect of parenting training based on executive functions on two subscales of parental stress, such as the domain of childhood and parents, has been investigated. Research on the effect of parenting training based on executive functions on other psychological variables of parents with children with special needs and normal has not been done. For researchers interested in parenting training based on executive functions in students with autism spectrum disorder, it is suggested to implement this training on fathers of students with autism spectrum disorder and compare it with the results of this research on mothers. Also, implement the effect of parenting training based on executive functions on other groups of neurodevelopmental disorders. Also, the results of this research should be followed up in the long term. In addition to these suggestions, the effect of parenting training based on executive functions on the anxiety and stress of mothers with children with neurodevelopmental disorders should be investigated in future researches. Also, as practical suggestions, it can be acknowledged that brochures in the field of parenting skills based on executive functions are prepared and made available to parents, especially mothers, so that in the long term, the positive effect of this training on the psychological problems of parents, especially mothers, can be seen. Introduction One of the most common childhood neurodevelopmental disorders is attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, which affects many aspects of development, including the development of social, emotional and cognitive functions in the home and school environment. Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder is characterized by unpleasant developmental disorders and impairment in gross motor activities, attention and impulsivity and affects 3- 5% of children worldwide. These children are prone to many complications, including poor academic performance, behavioral disorders, communication disorders, social withdrawal and adjustment problems. Children with this disorder do not have the ability to pay close attention to details or make careless mistakes in schoolwork, work or other activities. They are often disorganized when performing activities and perform tasks carelessly and without sufficient thought. Accordingly, the purpose of the present study was to investigate the efficacy of play therapy based on a cognitivebehavioral approach on executive functions and social competence in female students with signs of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Method The research method was quasi-experimental with a pretest, post-test, control group and two-month follow-up period design. The statistical population included female fourth- and fifth-grade students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in Zone 2 in the city of Shiraz in the academic year 2019-20. 27 students were selected through the purposive sampling method from the statistical population and randomly assigned to experimental and control groups. Then, the children in the experimental group received play therapy based on a cognitive-behavioral approach in 10 sessions of 50 minutes over the course of one month. The applied questionnaires included the Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Questionnaire (ADHDQ) (Brock, Clinton, 2007), the Social Competence Scale (SCS) (Cohen and Rosman, 1972), and the Executive Functions Questionnaire (EFQ) (Gerard et al., 2000). Mixed ANOVA and Bonferroni follow-up test levels were used to analyze the data. Result The results showed that the play therapy method based on a cognitivebehavioral approach has been effective on the executive functions and social competence of the students with signs of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (P<0.005). These results were stable in the follow-up period. Therefore, it is concluded that play therapy based on the cognitivebehavioral approach has had a significant effect on the executive functions and social competence of students with attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder by 59 and 60 percent. Statistical power also indicates high statistical accuracy and a sufficient sample size. Conclusion According to the findings of the present study, it can be concluded that play therapy based on a cognitive-behavioral approach can be used as an efficient method to improve executive functions and social competence in students with signs of attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Background & aim: Borderline Personality Disorder is one of the most important health problems of people with undesirable consequences on family councils. The aim of the present study was to compare the executive function and difficulties in emotion regulation in addicted with upper and lower borderline personality traits. Methods: The present causal-comparative study included all male drug abusers who had been referred to addiction treatment centers. 80 addicts were selected by accessible sampling method and using a borderline personality traits (STB). Then, they were divided into two groups of 40 people for drug addicts in high and low. Using The Wisconsin Card Sorting Test and the scale of difficulty in the emotional regulation was conducted on two groups. Statistical data using multivariate analysis of variance MANOVA and LSD test were analyzed. Results: The results indicated that compared to drug addicts with high borderline traits, the ones with low borderline traits had lower performance in Wisconsin Card Sorting Test and the number of perseveration errors (p = 0.018) and total error (p = 0.002) was higher. Moreover, addicts with high borderline traits varied significantly higher scores in difficulty in emotional regulation (p=0.002) of the drug with low borderline personality traits. Conclusion: The results indicated that addicts with high borderline traits, had weaker performance in executive function and higher levels of difficulty with emotional regulation. This may be due to neurological effects of drug addiction on their performance which leads to poorer performance compared with drug people with low borderline traits.

The research tools included the fifth version of Wechsler's intelligence scale (Wechsler, 2014), continuous performance computer test (Rosold, 1956), Wisconsin card sorting test (Grant and Berg, 1948), Tower of London test (Challice, 1982). The data obtained from the research were analyzed with SPSS software version 26 and using the analysis of variance test with repeated measurements. Findings: The results showed that Captain Log computer cognitive software had a significant effect on executive function (attention, error elimination and correct answer, problem solving and cognitive flexibility) (p<0.001), but on Quantitative reasoning had no significant effect (p<0.05). Conclusion: Based on the findings of the research, it can be concluded that the cognitive rehabilitation of Captain Log's cognitive-computer program can be used as an efficient method to improve the cognitive ability of 7-12-year-old children with dyscalculia. In this Research, the effect of private speech training on executive function of boys between 9 to 11 years old in Isfahan City was examined. This research is an experimental study of pre-test/post-test with control groups. It had a two-stage sampling. Final sample included 20 attention deficit boys (10 for experiment group and 10 for first control group) and 9 normal boys for second control group. Instruments used in this research included British Picture Vocabulary scale, Short form of Wechsler's Intelligence Scale for Children- Revised, Tower subtest of NEPSY Neuropsychology test. To analyze private speech of children, their speech were videotaped while solving Tower subtest and Videos were content analyzed by three encoders. Results showed that children with attention deficit, had significantly more errors in compare to first and second control groups; while both experiment and second control group (which both had been trained) had significantly more amount of private speech in compare to first control group- which had not trained. According to the findings of the research, it can be concluded although private speech training can increase the amount of private speech produced by attention deficit children, this increase in speech, not only will not necessarily increase function of children, but it may backfire on difficult tasks.

Introduction: Autism spectrum disorder has been suggested as a neurological disorder that usually occurs in the early years of a child’s development. Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of active game intervention and Exergames on executive functions in children with autism. Method: The method of this research is quasi-experimental and applied in terms of purpose, which was done using a pretest-posttest design with a control group. The subjects of the present study were children with autism aged 7 to 10 years in Gorgan in 2021, from which 36 people were selected by convincing method from two centers of children with autism. The instruments used in this study included the Gilliam Autism Rating Scale and the Working Memory Test. The Stroop effect test was also used to measure selective attention. Data analysis was performed using analysis of covariance and SPSS software version 24. Results: The results showed that active game intervention had positive effects on working memory (P=0.001) and selective attention (P=0.001). In addition, Exergames intervention had positive effects on working memory (P=0.001) and selective attention (P=0.001). Conclusion: In general, the results of the present study emphasize the importance of using active games and Exergames interventions to improve and strengthen executive functions in highfunctioning autistic children. Background and Objective: The trend of developments in the health system and medical education and other related sciences, including environmental health, is a global challenge. In this research educational content of environmental health and its revision were studied from the point of view of students and graduates. Materials and Methods: The present study was a cross-sectional descriptive study. In this research, through two checklists, the opinions of environmental health students and graduates regarding the necessity of revising the educational content of the field according to the requirements of the time and considering the future situation were investigated with the participation of 441 people. Data analysis was performed using SPSS-22 software. Results: According to the results, 73.7 percent of participants believed that the educational content of environmental health in Iran has fundamental differences from developed countries. 81.7 percent believed that the educational content provided to environmental health students is not proportional to their duties. Meantime, 91.4 percent of the graduates of environmental health believe that the expected capabilities included in the educational curricula of different degrees of environmental health should be revised. 88.4 percent believed that it is necessary to revise the educational content of this field considering the "change in executive and practical functions of environmental health during the past years". Conclusion: The overwhelming majority of graduates of the field emphasized the need to revise the educational content of the environmental health field, taking into account the requirements of the time. Background and Objectives: Academic performance and factors affecting it as one of the central and fundamental variables in education have always been the focus of researchers and psychologists. The aim of the current research was to determine the mediating role of self-concept in the relationship between executive functions and working memory capacity and the academic performance of the first-year students of Semiram High School. Materials and Methods: The present study is descriptive. The investigated sample was 272 first-year female students of Semiram high school in 2020-2021, who were selected using the multi-stage cluster random sampling method. Research participants completed the Barkly Adolescent Executive Function Deficit Scale, the Wechsler Working Memory Test, the Pham and Taylor Academic Performance Questionnaire, and the Yesen Chen Academic Self-Concept Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using Pearson's correlation coefficient test, multivariate regression, and path analysis. Results: The average scores of executive functions, academic performance, self-concept, and working memory were 63.31, 181.29, 47.2, and 9.45, respectively, with a standard deviation of 6.71, 4.61, 3.89, and 34.4. The results showed that self-concept has a mediating role in the relationship between executive functions and working memory capacity and the academic performance of the first-year students of Semiram High School. Also, the results showed that self-concept, executive functions, and working memory can predict academic performance (p<0.001). Conclusion: Considering the mediating role of self-concept in relation to executive functions and working memory capacity, it is suggested to be used to improve students' academic performance. Introduction: Speech rate is one of the clarity and fluency aspects of speech. It can affect depressed patients’ clarity, fluency, and public communication due to impaired executive and cognitive functions. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effect of inducing negative emotional experiences on speech rate in people with depressive disorder. Method: For this purpose, 150 Shiraz University students who were selected by convenience sampling method answered Beck Depression Inventory. Then, based on the cut of point and the clinical interview, 60 people were selected and placed in two depressed and non-depressed groups. Participants watched a text without emotional content in the first stage and a piece of film with negative emotional content in the second stage and then retold whatever came to their mind. Finally, the obtained data were analyzed using an independent sample t-test. Results: Findings showed that the speech rate scores in depressed people were significantly lower than non-depressed people (P<0.001); moreover, the scores of this group in the context of negative emotion induction were significantly lower than normal conditions (P<0.001). Conclusions: Based on the results, the speech rate of the depressed group is different from the non-depressed people in normal conditions; furthermore, it was found that the context in which the person is placed can affect the speech rate. Background and Aims: Improving executive functions through play is one of the ways to improve learning in children with learning problems, whose definite effectiveness needs clinical investigation. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of teaching children's executive functions through play combined with transdiagnostic interventions of mothers' emotional problems on anxiety, depression, and sleep quality of these children. Materials and Methods: This semi-experimental research was conducted with a pretest-posttest and followup (two months) design on 42 children aged 7 to 9 years in two experimental groups and one control group. Experiment groups received the training of executive functions in a game way. The mothers of the children in the 2nd experimental group were taught the integrated protocol of transdiagnostic interventions, while the mothers of the 1st experimental group did not receive training as they were considered the control group of mothers in the 2nd experimental group. The data were analyzed in SPSS version 25 software using the analysis of variance test with repeated measures (α=0.05). Results: Significant differences were observed between the intervention groups and the control group in the variable of sleep quality in the follow-up and post-test phase (P<0.001), in the anxiety variables in the posttest phase (P=0.04) and follow-up (P=0.05), and in the variable of depression (P<0.001). It was found that the intervention improved the quality of children's sleep and boosted anxiety and depression indices in both intervention groups, and this effect was greater in the group of children and mothers (P<0.001) Conclusion: The training of executive functions in the form of play with the transdiagnostic interventions of mothers' emotional problems was effective on the psychological symptoms and sleep quality of children with learning disabilities, which can be a part of the training program for educators to solve these problems. Objective: Mathematical anxiety is a common and often debilitating phenomenon that can hinder students' learning and progress in mathematics. Therefore, identifying the influential factors is essential. This research aims to determine the mediating role of Mental Toughness in the relationship between executive functions, Reinforcement Sensitivity Theory, and mathematical anxiety. Methods: This research is applied in terms of its objective and correlational in terms of data collection. The study population consisted of high school students studying theoretical subjects in the year 1401-1402 in Zanjan, Iran. A sample of 455 students was selected using multi-stage random cluster sampling. Research variables were measured using the following scales: Mental Toughness (McGeown et al., 2016), mathematical anxiety (Hopko et al., 2003), executive functions (Gioia et al., 2015), and Reinforcement Sensitivity Theory (Vecchione, M., & Corr, 2020). Data analysis was performed using SPSS-26 and AMOS-24 software. The research model was evaluated using structural equation modeling fit indices and path analysis. Results: Correlation coefficients indicated that executive functions and the behavioral activation system were capable of directly predicting mathematical anxiety. Significance of the indirect effect suggests that Mental Toughness mediates the relationship between Reinforcement Sensitivity Theory and executive functions. Conclusions: Deficits in executive functions and behavioral inhibition systems lead to decreased Mental Toughness, which, in turn, increases mathematical anxiety. In contrast, optimal functioning of the behavioral activation system increases Mental Toughness, subsequently reducing mathematical anxiety.
