Sugarcane cultivation requires innovation, especially in the development and characterization of improved varieties with resistance or tolerance to pests and diseases. The present work focused on the morphogenetic analysis of the Mex 69-290 variety of sugarcane grown in the central zone of the state of Veracruz, specifically in Ejido Sumidero, Ixtac, Buena Vista, Ixtac, Tapia, Córdoba, Ejido Potrero Nuevo, Paso del Macho and Localidad Peñuela, Amatlán. Collections of the Mex 69-290 variety were made, and the main morphological characteristics, stem, bud, leaves, ligule, collar, and canopy type were analyzed and analysis of genetic diversity using ISSR markers using the Doyle and Doyle method (1990) with some modifications. Similar variations were observed in the five sampling points in the leaf part, specifically in the ligule, collar, and crown type. Molecular tests detected a high percentage of similarity, low percentages of polymorphism concerning the molecular markers used, and slight differences between populations. Based on the results described above, it was determined that there is no genetic diversity in the Mex 69-290 variety grown in the central zone of the state of Veracruz. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
