DEMOCRACY , *SECONDARY school students , *ELEMENTARY schools , *PARENTING education , *CRONBACH'S alpha - Abstract
Values are the guiding patterns of behavior that ensure the integrity of a society. In order for the individual to be a part of the society to which they belong, these behavior patterns should be transferred. Family, school and society play a role in the transfer of values. In this study, the values of democratic and scientific perspectives to 8th grade students in a province in Turkey has tried to determine. In order to determine the values, the scale of democratic and scientific values and demographic information form developed by Akbaş (2004) were used. The universe of the research consists of 8th grade students of secondary school studying in the 2018-2019 academic year. The sample, on the other hand, consists of 245 8th grade students from 4 secondary schools. Descriptive survey model was used in the research. As a result of the applied statistical calculations, the effects of variables such as gender, education levels of parents and economic status of the family were examined. In order to determine whether these variables show normal distribution, normality analysis was performed on the data of the variables using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. As a result of the analysis, it was seen that the scientific values scale showed normal distribution, while the democratic values scale did not show a normal distribution. Therefore, non-parametric tests were used in the analysis of the sub-problems of the democratic values scale. In addition, as a result of the reliability analysis, the Cronbach's Alpha value of the democratic values scale was found to be .83, and the Cronbach's Alpha value of the scientific values scale was found to be .84. As a result of the research, a significant difference was found in the gender variable in scientific and democratic values. Parents' education level and income level variables did not cause a significant difference on democratic and scientific value scores. The significant difference in the opinions of the participants was tested at the .05 level. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objectives. The aim of this study was to determine presence of metacognitive manifestations in the different phases of problem solving and to examine developmental and socio-educational differences in metacognition in preschoolers, with respect to children's gender, age, socioeconomic status of the family, parent's education and type of preschool institution. Sample and settings. The sample included 418 preschool children, aged 3-6 years. Research was conducted in preschool institutions. The conditions were standardized and controlled by researchers - the researcher gave clear instruction to children before each task. Hypotheses. It was assumed that preschool children are able to manifest verbal and nonverbal metacognition indicators and that these manifestations are related to children's age and socio- educational factors, such as socio-economic status of the family, parent's education and type of preschool institution. Statistical analysis. Descriptive statistics were used to determine presence of metacognitive manifestations. Two-factorial ANO VA was applied to examine gender and age differences. The post-hoc analysis (GLM) was conducted to test influence of socio-educational factors. Results. It is showed that preschoolers use verbal and non-verbal metacognitive responses in different phases of problem solving. Older children manifested more indicators of metacognition. Also, socio-economic status of the family and parent's education showed as significant factors which contribute to differences in metacognitive manifestations in preschoolers. Study limitations. Metacognition was measured without testing strategies which could enhance it, so future research would test influence of these strategies on development of metacognition in preschoolers. The aim of this study is to examine and to present systematically the coaching practices studies conducted for children, their families or specialists in the field of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). In order to achieve this aim, experimental or quasiexperimental studies on telehealth (distance) coaching practices published in a peerreviewed journal between the years 2010-2018 were reviewed over the literature. According to the criteria determined, 18 studies were presented in the type of "narrative review". Investigations were examined in terms of participant characteristics, research model, targeted skill area, independent variable, a technology used, implementation process, validity-reliability, follow-up-generalization, and results. The results show that telehealth coaching practices have an impact on targeted skills. Coaching practices carried out in in-situ have limitations such as cost, transportation and the inability of time to be flexible. Based on the results of the research, telehealth coaching practices can be a solution to overcome these limitations. In addition, it will be possible for families or professionals living in rural areas to access special education services through distance coaching practices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
