Based on a mixed methodology, we analyse the profiles of Angolan, Brazilian and Cape Verdean students in mobility in Portuguese higher education. We question their motivations and the relationship between the mobility project and social mobility, which this migration trajectory could represent. The results highlight the importance of scholarships, the Portuguese language, and the prestige of universities. These aspects are marked by social class issues, but also influenced by the Portuguese colonial past and the late development of higher education in the countries of origin. The correlation of economic, social and educational achievements between generations of the same family is a matter of great interest for the analysis of equal opportunities in society. The aim of this article is to quantify the impact and extent of the intergenerational transmission of poverty in Spain. Using data from the specific module on the intergenerational transmission of economic disadvantage in the 2011 Life Conditions Survey, propensity score matching was used to study the relationship between the economic disadvantage of one generation and the next. The results show that having economic disadvantage during adolescence increases the probability of poverty in adulthood. This impact has been reduced in younger generations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The aim of the paper is to discover how important physical attractiveness is in finding a partner and in the type of partnership sought. Two surveys (2975 and 3004 by the CIS) and several methods were employed: linear probability models and fixed-effect multi-level models. For men, the results show that being unattractive decreases the likelihood of finding a partner, of finding a partner with a university degree, and of finding a partner with a higher educational level. For women, physical attractiveness does not affect the likelihood of any of those events occurring. The study has also found out that physical attractiveness has more of an influence on people with a working class background to find a partner with higher educational attainment.
