Marcel Breuer began sporadically working as an architect in 1923, although he did not open his professional studio in Berlin until 1928, after leaving his teaching duties at the Bauhaus. In most of the commissions and competitions he undertook, he used scale models as a means of representation his architectural proposals. This article is about the models used in the first 25 years of their professional practice, that is, from 1924 to 1949, a turning point in their trajectory, as from then on, it would experience remarkable development. Francisco Íñiguez is well known for the work he did from 1933 onwards as an architect preserving the architectural heritage of Spain. In particular, he is celebrated for having been the main mover and principal worker in the recovery and full restoration of the Palacio de la Aljafería in Saragossa. This article looks at the background of the first exhibition given over to modern furniture design in America organized at the Museum of Modern Art in 1941. It becomes clear that the great majority of the designs awarded prizes in the competition prior to the exhibition were produced by young architects. This was because they were the only people who were up-to-date with modern trends emanating from the Bauhaus or Scandinavian design. Both the organizer, Eliot Noyes, and the prize-winners, Eero Saarinen and Charles Eames, became prominent after the Second World War as designers with outstanding professional careers. The paintings and drawings of the architect Louis Kahn were catalogued in a book by Jan Hochstim (1991), which allowed those interested in his graphic work to study them in greater depth in later publications. This essay is intended to show possible influences upon certain drawings by Kahn from the lithographs of Louis Lozowick, an artist who was very well known in the early 1930s because of his drawings of the American Scene.
