The lack of knowledge on the morphological variability in hydrozoan populations has resulted in numerous misidentifications over history. Cladonema radiatum Dujardin, 1843 is characterized by presenting different morphologies in different localities of the world, which has caused many taxonomic confusions within the group. In this study, the morphological variability in a population of C. radiatum is analyzed. The material came from a coastal lagoon in the southern Gulf of Mexico. The samplings were carried out for 3 months in 2017. Salinity, dissolved oxygen, and temperature were recorded at each sampling site. Cladonema radiatum was more abundant and bigger when the lagoon showed the lowest levels of salinity. Six different morphologies were recognized. The presence of gelatinous papillae on the abaxial surface of marginal bulbs and an abaxial arrangement of nematocysts in the shortest branches of the tentacles are features recorded for the first time in the species. These considerations enrich the taxonomic description of C. radiatum and contribute to the knowledge on the taxonomy of Hydrozoa in Mexico. The taxonomy of Cladonema continues to be confusing, and the present work sets a basis for further integrative studies clarifying the morphological boundaries of the genus. A poor sanitation system can generate numerous harmful consequences for society and environment. These include pollution of water bodies and risks to public health. Mitigation measures for these problems are necessary, preferably based on planning and management actions, requiring greater knowledge of the problem and careful analysis of proposed solutions. This work aims to present an environmental overview of Maricá Lagoon System (MLS) based on water quality indexes (WQI) and sanitation indicators available in the databases of State Environment Institute (INEA) and National Information System on Sanitation (SNIS), respectively. For a more comprehensive perception, the lagoons of Maricá and Saquarema were compared considering the indexes and indicators raised. Six monitoring points performed by INEA were studied in affluent of MLS and five in Saquarema Lagoon System. There was a relationship between the poor quality of the MLS waters and the lack of adequate basic sanitation in the urban areas of its hydrographic basin, with the Maricá Airport channel with the worst WQI. Therefore, one of the main conditions for the environmental revitalization of these lagoons that are vital for Maricá is to obtain a greater range and quality of basic sanitation services provided to the population. To allow the necessary improvement, in the short term, of water quality in MLS, emergency sanitary engineering alternatives can be used, among which the adoption of sewage collection system in dry weather, along the lines of what has already been used with success in the neighboring lagoon complexes such as Saquarema and Araruama. The purpose of this study was to analyze water circulation in an estuary located in Boca del Río, Veracruz, Mexico. The diagnosis is based on the most representative flux records for the Jamapa River during the dry and rain seasons, that is, April and September, respectively. Tidal conditions, temperature, and water density were taken into account. For the diagnosis, a three-dimensional model (Delft3D) was applied. The seasonal circulation governing the estuary was evaluated using barotropic and baroclinic pressure levels. During the dry season, estuarine circulation was governed by the tides, and water circulation in the Mandinga lagoons was induced by baroclinic conditions. During the rainy season, the estuarine system was governed by discharge from the Jamapa River, and water circulation in the Mandinga lagoons is influenced by barotropic gradients. In the Albanian Alps along the Early Jurassic section, an interesting record complex was found. The locality represents marine - lagoonal - land transition with in situ preserved shells and plant roots system with aerial roots which suggest that specially-adapted plants grew along the lagoon's coastal zone. An introduction is presented which discusses various reports within the issue on topics including the therapeutic use of lagoons in Venice, Italy, the history of nursing, and psychiatric hospitals.

We analyzed the stomach contents of 2915 individuals of the whitemouth croaker, Micropogonias furnieri, ranging from 15.6 to 42.0 cm total length, collected from a coastal lagoon in Rocha, Uruguay, during 1997-1999. A total of 56% (n = 1646) of individuals were found with content in their stomachs. Six food items were identified and classified as crustaceans (49%), polychaetes (26%), vegetal debris (15%), molluscs, juvenile fishes, and unidentified contents, the latter three representing less than 5% of the total stomach contents. Fishes displayed a higher proportion of stomachs with food between February and August 1998, simultaneous with a low gonadosomatic index and a decrease in water temperature. Crustaceans were the dominant food item from November 1997 to March 1998 and from November to December 1998 (austral summer), whereas polychaetes were predominant from April to October 1998 and from January to February 1999. Availability of polychaetes and their higher frequency of occurrence in the stomachs before the reproductive period could play an important role in the reproduction of the species. Feeding frequency was correlated with length classes. Smaller fishes (<25 cm) preyed on polychaetes and vegetal debris, whereas larger fishes fed mainly on crustaceans and fishes. The temporal feeding habits of M. furnieri in this coastal lagoon showed selective and opportune utilization of prey items according to annual variability in reproductive status and water temperature.
