Background and Aim: Health, according to the World Health Organization, encompasses complete physical, mental, and social well-being, not just the absence of disease and illness. This study aims to monitor and evaluate the scientific publications of military research centers in the health field and their researchers over the past 5 years (2016-2020). Methods: Military researchers were first identified using an advanced search strategy for various dimensions of health in the Science Direct database. Then, the complete output of their research articles were extracted from the Scopus database. Pearson's correlation coefficient and the Mann-Kendall trend test were used to analyze the data. R software version 4.2.2 was used for data analysis and VOSviewer software version 1.6.18 was utilized for the visualization of scientometrics approaches. Results: Overall, 3771 and 79069 research articles were identified from military research centers of Iran and the world, respectively, in the field of health during a period of 5 years (2016-2020). Military research centers of China and the United States were the leading countries in terms of scientific publications in the field of health. Iran, the United States, England, and Pakistan experienced significant research growth among the top countries during the period of 2016-2020 (P = 0.027). Additionally, the United States recorded near-significant growth in international collaboration (P = 0.086) and Iran showed near-significant growth in review researches (P = 0.086) during these years. Furthermore, a significant correlation was observed between the total number of articles and the ratio of review articles in Iran over time (P = 0.017). The military research centers of Iran and the world and their top researchers shared the priorities of the research topics of 'Medicine and Dentistry' and 'Biochemistry, Genetics, and Molecular Biology'. A shift in research focus towards the keyword 'Covid-19' was observed in Iran and the world in 2020. Conclusion: The main findings of the present study focused on the evaluation and visualization of the scientific publication of military research centers in Iran and worldwide, as well as the associated researchers. There is a need to review science and technology policies in order to strengthen weaknesses and sustain strengths. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

INTRODUCTION: Children's knowledge about first aid is extremely important to decrease the negative consequences of accidents. PURPOSE: To evaluate the knowledge of high school pupils about first aid and the effectiveness of an educational program. METHODS: A quasi-experimental study was conducted between October 2014 to April 2015 with voluntarily participation of high school pupils of Piraeus. Pupils' knowledge was assessed with 22 questions with multiple answers. Pupils completed the knowledge questionnaire in two times, one before and one a week after the educational program. Data analysis was performed with the statistical package IBM SPSS 21.0. RESULTS: The mean first aid knowledge score before the educational program was 9.2, while after that was 21.6 (p<0.001). Increased grade in school was associated with increased first aid knowledge score after the educational program (p<0.001). Also, increased grade in school (p<0.001), increased information about first aids (p=0.014) and increased visiting of web pages with healthcare material (p=0.03) were associated with increased first aid knowledge score before the educational program. Finally, first aid knowledge score was higher for pupils in public schools than those in private schools (p=0.02). CONCLUSIONS: The educational program increased considerably the limited knowledge of pupils about first aid. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

INTRODUCTION: Continuing nursing training is necessary in order to achieve higher health care quality in public hospitals. PURPOSE: To evaluate training needs of nurses in all public hospitals in Cyprus and to investigate relations between demographic and occupational characteristics and training needs. METHODS: A cross-sectional study with 385 nurses was conducted in all public hospitals in Cyprus during October 2014 to January 2015. Nurses completed the "Training Needs Analysis Questionnaire" that includes 30 skills and five scales: research/audit, communication/teamwork, clinical tasks, managerial tasks and management/ supervision. Data analysis was performed with IBM SPSS 21.0. RESULTS: Nurses stated that all 30 skills were important for nursing role. Among them 7 skills were considered as very important, 22 as important and only one as less important. Nurses selfestimated their performance as very high in five skills, as high in 23 skills and as moderate in two skills. Moreover, they stated that after the appropriate training, their performance could be improved in a very important degree in 21 skills and in an important degree in nine skills. Nurses without a MSc/Phd degree had greater training needs in research/audit scale than nurses with a MSc/Phd degree (p<0.02). CONCLUSIONS: Nurses consider their training as an important issue and that will help them to improve their clinical performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: The complexity of health care, such as the time pressure, life and death decisions, and the significant workload contribute to conflicts, while emotional intelligence is a skill that can contribute to the resolve of these conflicts Purpose: The purpose of this study is to investigate the management of conflicts between health professionals and the role of Emotional Intelligence in them. Material-Method: A survey was conducted with the use of a self-report questionnaire on health professionals of the Nursing Unit. The final sample of the survey was 153 people out of 220 who worked in the structure in total, with a response rate of 70%. Scales weighted in the Greek Language were used to investigate conflicts and to assess Emotional Intelligence. The statistical analysis was performed with the statistical program S.P.S.S. 25. Results: Health professionals regardless of specialty believe that communication problems lead to moderate conflicts. No difference was found between the views of the specialties of the sample and the causes of conflicts related to job expectations, nor between the occupations of the health professionals in terms of conflict management strategies, with the exception of compromise. It is also not selected by the majority of the sample the claim of victory or the accepting the other's wish, while 40% of administrators choose to compromise, compared to the lower percentages of other occupational groups (p = 0.049). The analysis of the correlation between the Emotional Intelligence of health professionals and the causes of conflict showed that as the Emotional Intelligence of physicians and administrators increases, their belief that orders from more than one person cause conflicts decreases (r = -0.049, p and r = -0.561, p = 0.010). Also, as the Emotional Intelligence of doctors increases, so does the belief that the unfair distribution of resources leads to conflicts (r = 0.386, p = 0.035) while finally, as the SN of nurses increases, so does the satisfaction with their roles and tasks ( r = 0.395, p = 0.001). Conclusions: Conflicts in the hospital environment are a condition that cannot be easily eliminated due to the specificity and burden of the environment but also the multidimensional professional relationships between health professionals. However, a mean of conflicts resolving is Emotional Intelligence, which characterizes health professionals but must also be cultivated, through a framework of modern administration. Mobile phone use is such a common phenomenon nowadays, that many researchers refer to children and adolescents as a 'mobile generation'. Several studies associate mobile phone use (in terms of voice communication, text sending and internet use with psychological, social and physiological outcomes. Aim: The aim of this study was the exploration of the association of mobile phone dependence with health behaviors in a population οf students of nursing. Material-Method: This study, which follows a cross-sectional survey design, was conducted from November 2009 to January 2010. The convenience sample of the study included 206 nursing students of a Higher Technological Education Institution (response rate 68.5%). Data was collected with the use of anonymous questionnaires. Mobile phone dependence was measured with the Mobile Phone Dependence Questionnaire-MPDQ (by Toda et al. 2006). Statistical analysis was conducted with the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS 15.0). All hypotheses were tested at a significance level of p <0,05. Results: The mean score for mobile phone dependence was 25,4(± 12,1 95% Cl:23,7-27), while the percentage of students who presented a high level of dependence (mean value of dependence> 38) was 13,6%. Women presented a higher degree of dependence compared to men (p=0,007), while there was no significant difference between smoking and non-smoking students (p=0,435), as well between alcohol and no alcohol consuming students (p=0,368). Students who had no physical exercise had significantly greater dependence on mobile phone use compared to students who were exercising for one or two hours per week (p=0,001). Testing the relationship between age and dependence, a low negative correlation was found (rho=-0,254, p=0,001), demonstrating that younger students are more prone to mobile phone dependence. Conclusions: Mobile phone use in the daily routine of the students is so prevalent that it could be characterized as a "modern" addiction. The fact that this dependence was found to be associated with some unhealthy health behaviors, should raise concern both in individual level,(students and their families), and in administrative level (the faculty of educational institutions) about the future health status of the student population. Nursing, as a humanitarian science, offers its services, on the comprehensive care of patients. Each nurse handling, involves the possibility of error. Meurier appointed nursing error as "any act, any decision or omission by a nurse, assessed as incorrect, by more experienced colleagues, and have adverse consequences for patients". Medication errors are the most common category of nursing errors. They affect health, patient safety and also have a high economic impact to health systems of each country. Aim: The present study investigated the causative factors of nursing errors, the frequency of medication errors and the ways of reporting, recording and managing these errors in the hospitals of Greece. Method: For the purpose of this study, a descriptive cross-sectional design was used. The sample consisted of 176 registered nurses, from eight public and three private hospitals, working in the ICU and their duties included the administration of drugs. Data collection was performed using an anonymous structured questionnaire that included demographic characteristics of the sample and closed questions about the factors implicated in the occurrence of errors and their management. To investigate the existence of correlation between demographics and various questions referred to the management of errors by nurses, the criterion of heterogeneity X2 of Pearson was used and to check for correlation between questions that reflect the participants' views on working conditions and management of errors, the non-parametric correlation coefficient of Spearman (Spearman rho) was applied. The statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 17 software. Results: After statistical analysis of data, the most important causative factors for the occurrence of errors are the nursing workload (78.9%), the distraction of nurses (75.8%) and the burnout (56.8%). More than 9 out of 10 nurses have made errors in drug administration (91.5%), especially with the wrong dose (34.7%) and the wrong time of administration (32.4%). Finally, 86.6% of the respondents believed that the official record of nursing errors would improve health care provision. Conclusions: Nursing errors are a reality for Greek hospitals. The major causative factors are workload, burnout and frequent interruptions to nurses during preparation and administration of medication. Although nurses seem to want the official record of errors, much still refuses to reveal any, while in Greece there is no formal mechanism to manage these errors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: The main objective of the study was to explore social bias experienced by patients with Alzheimer's disease and to investigate the knowledge of a sample of the general population regarding this particular disease. Method: The sample consisted of 91 individuals who were first degree relatives of members of three Centers of Open Protection for the Elderly, who did not suffer from dementia as they have recently undergone screening for Alzheimer's disease. A survey design was adopted using a face-to-face questionnaire which apart from the demographical data and two open-ended questions, was based on a 5-point lickert scale, looking at knowledge, attitudes and stigma towards the disease. Data was analyzed through SPSS software using descriptive statistics while results were regarded significant at p<0,05 level of significance. Results: For the quantitave questions, cronbach's a was a=0,75 and the average discrete index 0,31. Stigma was explored through a series of direct and in-direct questions and while 70 (77%) persons distinguish dementia from mental illness, 9(9,9%) people did not answer these questions. The majority (62,6%) did not stigmatize the patient as 57 persons said that the patient is not to blame for the disease. Conclusions: from the distribution of results it becomes evident that there is a need for education, training and multifaceted enlightenment of the general population on issues concerning mental health. Answers that implied tendencies of marginalization of patients with dementia emanated mainly came from individuals in the sample with limited knowledge of the illness and relatively low educational background. AIM: The aim of this study was the analysis of occupational accidents that were reported by the employees in the occupational health service in one University Hospital between 2013-2017. MATERIAL AND METHOD: Data collection in this retrospective descriptive study, was performed by an anonymous questionnaire developed for this study, which was completed with information from the occupational accident forms of the years 2013-2017. Data included the activity during which the accident, the way and place of injury, the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), the virology check and the instructions given after the accident. Data were entered in an Excel spreadsheet, while statistical analysis was performed by SPSS-v.21. RESULTS: There were found505 completed occupational accident forms. Of those 73.5% happened to women, while 64.6% in the 19-35 age group. Injuries were more frequent in nursing staff (31.5%), with sharp objects (77.2%), in upper extremities (82.3%). The 76.7% of the employees used the appropriate PPE during the time the accident occurred, while 85.1% had been immunized against HBV and there was no absenteeism in 93.7%. In all staff, except nursing, there was a reduction in the proportion of accidents in 2015-2017 compared to 2013-2014, that is following the implementation of the P.D.6/2013. A statistically significant increase in injuries from misplaced movements between the two time periods was found (from 63.2% to 73.7%, p-value=0.012), while the proportion of non-vaccinated employees against HBV was reduced (p-value=0.025). CONCLUSION: Sharp injuries have a high incidence in health care employees. It is therefore essential to take all necessary protection and prevention measures by the responsible authorities in collaboration with employees. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Introduction: The ignorance of the population regarding organ donation and their inadequate information affect negatively the growth of donors in Cyprus. Aim: To assess the knowledge and attitudes of the general population of Limassol, regarding organ donation and the factors that influence their decision. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with a sample of 1200 people in Cyprus, in the Limassol province. The sampling method used was the sampling of convenience and the questionnaire completion was made anonymous in public venues from June to September 2014. Data analysis was performed with IBM SPSS 21.0. Results: Women with 56,7%, felt that organ donation saves lives (p <0.05) and would like to become organ donors. In addition, they knew that there was a waiting list for prospective recipients (p <0.05) and agreed that to remove an organ from the donor he must be brain-dead compared to the 43,3% to the men. In contrast, men with 40,1% were more likely to know if brain death was reversible (p <0.05), unlike women with 34,7%. The participants stated that they had no information about the issue of donation and whether they were informed by the media. Still, the attitude of the Orthodox Church remains unknown to them. Conclusion: There is no proper information on organ donation and therefore there is a shortage of donors. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

INTRODUCTION: In the majority of voluntary life circle models, motivations, restrictions and outcomes, are playing a significant role, which defines the degree and the duration of commitment. In literature is reported that, Greek voluntary sector has been influenced by crisis and after all the voluntary life circle factors. OBJECTIVE: To explore the changes of the volunteer life circle main variables in health sector due to Greek crisis and specially the motivations, the obstructions, the outcomes and the commitment. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted during May-June 2016 in the Municipalities of Komotini and Alexandroupoli. Study population consisted of 213 volunteers (response rate 62.65%) who trade in health sector. Data collection was performed with questionnaires. Data analysis was performed with IBM SPSS version 21.0. RESULTS: Greek crisis caused a subtle increase of motivations and outcomes, a bigger to the commitment and to the temper of volunteering and also left obstructions constant. Correlations were found between changes of volunteering circle main variations with demographic and socio-economic factors, with characteristics of volunteering and voluntary organizations and also with changes of all above due crisis. According to multivariate linear regression analyses, the 17% of variability of motivation score was due to the increment of volunteering time, and the number of wider family that burden household. Also, the 9% of variability of obstruction score was due to the lack of income and the number of wider family that burden household. Moreover, the 17% of variability of outcomes score was due to the decrease of volunteering years and the number of wider family that burden household. CONCLUSIONS: The Greek crisis cause a subtle increase of motivations, outcomes, need for volunteering and a greater increase of commitment and will of mobility. Greater reasons of changes were the urge to satisfy personal and social needs that crises caused and also the changes of attitude towards volunteers own giving and voluntary organizations. The obstructions that caused by the lack of proper policies and the malaise of voluntary sector, do not allow the positive attitude towards volunteer restructure to become a reality. INTRODUCTION: Quality of life and stress among patients with chronic renal disease affect decisively clinical outcomes and clinical course of these patients. AIM: To evaluate quality of life and stress among patients with chronic renal disease and to find their determinants. METHODOLOGY: A cross-sectional study was conducted during January to March 2016. Study population consisted of 130 patients with chronic renal disease and 49 healthy people without this disease as the control group. Quality of life short form (SF-12) and State Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) were used in order to assess quality of life and stress respectively. RESULTS: According to multivariate linear regression analyses, patients had worse quality of life versus healthy in the following domains of SF-12: physical functioning, physical role, physical pain, general health and physical health. Also, decreased age was associated with better quality of life in all domains of SF-12 except mental health, while decreased stress was associated with better quality of life in all domains of SF-12. Patients had higher stress from a specific situation than healthy people, while patients and residents in rural areas had higher permanent stress. CONCLUSION: Patients with chronic renal disease had worse quality of life and more stress than healthy and so appropriate interventions are need in order to improve quality of life, decrease stress and improve clinical outcomes. INTRODUCTION: Within the framework of the "Healthy Cities" program in 2013-2014 data was collected regarding the health status of the citizens of Nicosia. In addition to other information, the present survey included data from mammography screening in females. PURPOSE: Investigation of breast cancer screening program for women aged ≥40 years old and association with potential determinants. METHODOLOGY: Based on the 2011 census, a representative stratified sample of women living in Nicosia was chosen. In the sample, 297 women (≥40 years old) answered face-to-face interviews concerning the screening of breast cancer. Statistical analysis was performed with the use of IBM SPSS 22. RESULTS: A total of 231 (77.8%) women undertook mammography. 43.1% performed their first mammogram between 40-49 years and 21.9% between 50-59 years. Women aged 70 years and older are 10 times less likely to take a mammography compared with women of 50-69 years old (0R=0.10, 95% Confidence Interval (CI): 0.03 0.37, p=0.001). The mammography screening rates of women aged 40-49 years do not differ significantly with those of the target population, i.e. women 50-69 years (0R=1.00, 95% CI:0.44-2.27, p=0.994). Higher mammography screening rate was observed in married/partnered women compared to singles (0R=7.49, 95% CI:2.84-19.77, p<0.001), as well as in widowed/divorced/ separated compared to singles (0R=3.34, 95% CI: 1.21-9.25, p=0.020). Cypriot women are 4.78 times more likely to take a mammography compared with other nationalities (0R=0.21, 95% CI: 0.09-0.51, p=0.001). Finally, unemployed women are 5.45 times more likely to take a mammography compared to retired women (0R=5.45, 95% CI: 1.03-28.99, p=0.047). CONCLUSIONS: Mammography screening rates for women aged ≥40 years in the municipality of Nicosia are high and are associated with age, marital status, occupational status and nationality. Women aged 70 years and older as well as unemployed women show lower screening rates, while in married/partnered and Cypriot women higher screening rates are revealed. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Method and material: The studied sample consisted of107 elderly, 62 men and 45 women, who lived in the community, members of Open Care Centres for the Elderly (K.A.P.I.) and the Friendship Club of the wider area of Attica. Not statistically significant relationship between the capacity to manage the home and depressive symptomatology was recorded. Of the areas related to leisure, only activities relaxing the person, social and personal hobbiesrelated negatively with depressive symptomatology but not the physical activities, a finding which supports previous results regarding the efficiency in managing the home. Conclusions: Thus, according to the results of the present study the health professionals working with older people with depressive symptomatology should, in their interventions initially encourage activities that give life satisfaction and then focus their program on strengthening the individual to perform social activities, leisure activities and personal hobbies.
