Purpose: This study was conducted to determine a hypothetical model for the factors affecting uterine cancer patients' health-related quality of life. Methods: Data were collected from 409 patients with cervical cancer or endometrial cancer, between March 16 and May 15, 2015, using a self-administered questionnaire. The data were analyzed using SPSS v18 and AMOS v21. Results: The model supported 14 of the 19 hypotheses for all participants. The results indicated that resilience, marital intimacy, social support, and perceived health status directly affected participants' quality of life, while sexual function indirectly affected participants' quality of life. Of these variables, perceived health status had the strongest direct effect on participants' quality of life. Social support and sexual function were found to directly affect perceived health status. Somatic symptoms were found to directly affect sexual function, and resilience and marital intimacy in turn were found to directly affect somatic symptoms. Conclusion: These results suggest that management strategies to enhance uterine cancer patients' quality of life should address patients' perceived health status, social support, sexual function, and marital intimacy. The levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system (LNG-IUS) was originally developed as a method of contraception and was first marketed in Finland in 1990. In Korea, the only LNG-IUS approved for non-contraceptive use is Mirena, a T-shaped device with a vertical stem containing a reservoir of 52 mg of levonorgestrel, which releases 20 μg of levonorgestrel per day. The device's strong local effects on the endometrium benefit women with gynecological conditions such as heavy menstrual bleeding, dysmenorrhea, leiomyoma, adenomyosis, and endometriosis. There is also evidence to support its role in endometrial protection during postmenopausal estrogen therapy and in the treatment of endometrial hyperplasia without atypia and, possibly, early endometrial cancer. Because of its effectiveness, safety, and high patient satisfaction, the LNG-IUS will continue to provide important benefits in women's reproductive health. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Due to advances in the treatment and diagnosis of cancer, many women survive long after treatment, and therefore express concerns about the impact of estrogen deficiency on their quality of life. Cancer treatment can induce menopause through surgical removal of the ovaries, chemotherapy, or radiation. Women who undergo induced menopause usually experience more sudden and severe menopausal symptoms, including vasomotor symptoms, psychological symptoms, genitourinary symptoms, cardiovascular disease, and osteoporosis. Menopausal hormone therapy (MHT) is especially important in women younger than 40. In this review, we consider the role of MHT after the diagnosis of breast, gynecologic, colorectal, stomach, liver, lung, and hematologic cancers. MHT is advantageous in endometrial cancer type I, cervical squamous cell carcinoma, colorectal cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, and hematologic malignancies. However, MHT is not recommended for use in breast cancer, endometrial stromal sarcoma, hormone receptor--positive gastric cancer, and lung cancer survivors because it is linked to an increased risk of cancer recurrence. Depending on the type of cancer, clinicians should recommend that cancer survivors receive appropriate MHT in order to reduce vasomotor symptoms and to benefit from its positive effects on the cardiovascular and skeletal systems.
