Scientific papers on the history of psychiatric diagnosis presented at the 16th International Taniguchi Symposium for Comparative History of Medicine-East and West which was held in 1991 in Japan were briefly reviewed and discussions and comments interchanged in this meeting were introuduced with some personal appreciation that the meeting was excellently organized and enormously successful. Particularly, the papers of medical historians and the expert in specific area like Indian medicine from North America and Europe were highly instructive. The informal gathering in the evening had offered a fascinating original report such as an old documentary film about Imu, a Japanese culture bound syndrome. One very important point was raised in this review that the comparisons between the Medicine-East and the West, particularly the translation of the Eastern medical descriptions of mental illness into the modern Western pschiatric terms should be very cautiously carried out, because by the crude identification of one medical system with the other system the uniqueness of the illness in a specific time and in a specific place might easily be overlooked. For both Japanese and Korean traditional medicine share with Chinese traditional medicine and yet they preserve their uniqueness, a small group study for comparative East Asian medicine was suggested for the more elaborated clarification of medical terms.

World Health Organization Regional Office for the Western Pacific, Manila, Philippines Adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 2015, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) build on the lessons learned from the Millennium Development Goals that had guided development efforts for the preceding 15 years. The World Health Organization (WHO) Western Pacific Region made remarkable progress towards the Millennium Development Goals, but also experienced some challenges and shortcomings. This paper argues that the SDGs incorporate these complexities and aim to capture the many ways in which equitable and robust development is shaped by factors which are linked to each other. The SDGs place greater emphasis on a broader range of determinants of health, including poverty reduction, education, and reducing inequality, thereby reflecting that health influences and is influenced by progress on all goals and targets. Drawing on recent World Health Organization frameworks, the paper suggests options for advancing the SDGs in the Western Pacific. It argues that universal health coverage is core to achieving the SDGs and enacting the principle of leaving no- one behind, and outlines new ways of working within and outside of the health sector as well as appropriate capabilities of the health sector to drive the agenda. The SDGs place renewed demands on Member States and their partners. The strengths of the SDG framework lie in the emphasis on collaboration and joint action to solve shared problems, on collective accountability and the public interest, on tackling the determinants of health, and notably on the primacy of reaching those left furthest behind. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the knowledge structure of Asian Oncology Nursing (AON) from 2002 to 2018. Methods: Abstracts from 382 studies were reviewed and analyzed using the text network analysis program, NetMiner 4.3. Keywords network trends were compared before and after 2012 when the journal title changed from Journal of Korean Oncology Nursing to Journal of Asian Oncology Nursing. Results: 'Cancer,' 'patient,' 'quality of life,' 'breast,' 'nurse,' 'depression,' 'health,' 'nursing,' 'pain,' 'family' were the top 10 most frequent keywords, and 'cancer,' 'patient,' 'quality of life,' 'health,' 'nursing,' 'family,' 'intervention,' 'effect,' 'hospital,' and 'therapy' were the dominant keywords that ranked highest in co-appearance frequency. Core keywords changed before and after 2012. After 2012, depression, health, symptom and pain were the keywords ranked that replaced nursing, education, family, and intervention from before 2012. Four subtopic groups were identified: 1) cancer treatment, education and information, 2) chemotherapy and psychological adjustment, 3) psychosocial adjustment of cancer survivors, and 4) process of cancer intervention and support. Conclusion: This study provides a general overview of research trends of the Asian Oncology Nursing Society. Since the inception of the national family planning program in 1962, the main emphasis has been placed on the provision of contraceptive services and information, education, and communication (IEC) activities through home visits by family planning field workers and through government designated private physicians. This approach has been a powerful management system for the national program, particularly in the rural area. However, new issues in the national family planning program emerged with the subsequent socioeconomic changes since 1962. An increasing number of the rural population began to migrate to the urban area, and, therefore, beginning in the 1970s, more weight had to be given to the family planning service for the urban area; in particular, for those in the low-income brackets. In an effort to increase contraceptive acceptors among the urban low-income people, the government has implemented various special projects for them since 1974, through maximum utilization of community leaders including Tong and Ban Chiefs and mothers' clubs, and family planning workers in their areas. Thus, this paper analyzes the current status of family planning and fertility behavior of urban low-income wives as a part of program evaluation. Also, this paper is based on an analysis of the 1984 Family Planning Survey data, which was conducted in July 1984 and responded to by 600 married women aged 15-44 in the low-income areas of the Daejon and Daegu cities. The survey data revealed that the contraceptive practice rate was 77.0%, which was much higher than 70.3% of the national practice rate in the same year, and the approval rate for the 1 or 2 children of the low-income areas was much higher than that of other urban areas. Based on the results of the analysis, the following recommendations are suggested for the better program implementation: 1) improvement of program management system for recruiting new acceptors in their 20s for birth spacing; 2) development and inducement of innovative incentive schemes and IEC activities for increasing the proportion of the 1 child families; and 3) strengthening the utilization of community resources including mothers' clubs.
